The team was honored before the game as SEC Champions. They got a trophy and everything.
- FINAL
Auburn 71, Ole Miss 65. The team's next game comes tomorrow (5:30 p.m. CST) against either Tennessee or Florida. - @ :19, 2nd half
Auburn leads, 70-65. Bonner just stepped to the line and hit a pair of important free throws. Ole Miss has seized command of this game, but the surge is coming a bit too late. - FOURTH TO @ 3:42, 2nd half
Auburn leads, 64-54. The Tigers' starters are still in. It's been an unusual day for Auburn. Smalley is 2-of-9 from the perimeter. Hobbs is 1-of-9 overall. Bonner and Boddie have taken on larger-than-normal scoring responsibilities and that hasn't been a problem. Against a better opponent, though, this could have been a terminal situation. - THIRD TO @ 11:37, 2nd half
Auburn leads, 53-40. Nell Fortner now appears ready to rest her starters. Boddie is out. The Tigers are just messing around now. Seems like the margin is larger than 13, but Ole Miss has taken advantage of some recent sloppiness. - BONNER IN THE BOOKS
With a mid-range jumper moments ago, Bonner now is Auburn's all-time leading scorer. As of this moment, she has 2,070 points. - FIRST TO @ 17:00, 2nd half
Auburn leads, 42-29. The Tigers are on a 7-0 run to open the second half. Auburn is pushing the tempo, as they probably should have been doing all along, and their opponent can't keep up. - HALFTIME NUMBERS

- HALFTIME
Auburn 35, Ole Miss 29. - FOURTH TO @ 3:59, 1st half
Auburn leads, 27-25. It's been a funky strech here lately. DeWanna Bonner appears reborn as a mid-range jump shooter. That's not her game. On the other end, UM's big center, Shawn Goff, is going off. She's currently 6-for-8 with 17 points. I've told you this before -- Auburn's big weakness is that it cannot guard powerful centers. This has been proven time and again. - THIRD TO @ 7:48, 1st half
Auburn leads, 23-15. The Tigers want Smalley to be the sharpshooter, but it's just not happening. She's now 2-for-6 from the perimeter. She airballed the last shot. The two before that were way off. - SECOND TO @ 11:51, 1st half
Auburn leads, 16-8. The Tigers still are pushing the tempo. I've been impressed with how aggressive Ole Miss has been with their offensive rebounding. They're getting a lot of second shots. They'll start falling at some point. - FIRST TO @ 15:37, 1st half
Auburn leads, 10-4. The Tigers have a massive advantage here in terms of transition. Boddie is so thoughtful and quick with the ball in transition. UM's Kayla Melson, a Sidney Lanier High grad, can stay with Boddie. It doesn't appear that her teammates can handle their assignments in transition. Look for Auburn to crank this one to 11. (Spinal Tap reference) - OLE MISS TO @ 17:32, 1st half
Auburn leads, 10-2. The Tigers have scored on four consecutive possessions. They've been very easy baskets, too. - YOUR AUBURN STARTERS
PG -- Whitney Boddie
SG -- Alli Smalley
SF -- Sherell Hobbs
PF -- DeWanna Bonner

ReplyDeleteGO LADIES!!!
ReplyDeleteWARRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!! LETS GET IT DONE LADIES!!!!
ReplyDeleteWar Eagle Ladies! We can do it!!
ReplyDeletePhwew, that 3 minutes of UNC-Clemson ACC tourney action leading up to the AU game was excruciating!!
ReplyDeleteWAR EAGLE!! Beat ole piss!!
Jay G even calls DL from Little Rock.
ReplyDeleteOle Miss already has called timeout. It's 10-2. We're three minutes in.
ReplyDeleteGreat Start Ladies!
ReplyDeleteSecond!
ReplyDeleteAuburn up 14-7, 13:00 to go first half
ReplyDeleteThen as the adage goes, you shall be first! But I guess that means I am last now, which I don't like because I clearly beat you. Stinking adages.
ReplyDeleteAdages! We don't need no stinking adages!
ReplyDeleteBut a penny saved is a penny earned. How would you know that without adages?
ReplyDeleteHow many in the stands Jay G?
ReplyDeleteDear Leader has substance.
ReplyDeleteI have style.
OK, not really.
Or as the frat party T-shirt I had said, "One in the bush is better than one in the hand."
ReplyDeleteStands here .. maybe 1,500.
ReplyDeleteJudge - I don't think that Tshirt is PG13.
ReplyDeleteJay, how many of the 1,500 are Tennessee fans? Looks like quite a few on TV.
ReplyDeleteDefense, Auburn, Defense......!
ReplyDeleteAuburn leads 23-25 ... 8:00 remaining in the first.
ReplyDeleteI'd say it's 40% UT fans, 25% Auburn, 25% Florida ... and a few others.
ReplyDeleteThose UT fans are the truth!
ReplyDeletePacked house...NOT!
ReplyDeleteI think it's very poor judgement to have the tournys in non-central locations like Tampa and Little Rock. I understand that Florida and Arky have to travel ANYWHERE....but thems the breaks. Nashville, Atlanta, Memphis, maybe New Orleans....those you be standards for SEC affairs
ReplyDeletei wonder if i could get 1500 people in my house
ReplyDeleteChattanooga has always been a great host for the women's tournament. I've actually been to a few games there, and there were good crowds.
ReplyDeleteAuburn just called TO ... lead is down to 27-25.
ReplyDeleteOne player is doing all this damage.
UM's big center, Shawn Goff, is 6-for-8 with 17 points.
Personally, I think we ought to have the men's tournament at the AUM Physical Education Complex.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone else notice that Boddie was on the cover of USA today, at least in my area.
ReplyDeletetruth is...I'm not going to the women's tourny unless its in Bham...but I'd go to any of the places Andrew or I mentioned for the mens tourny on Friday and Saturday (even if we're out of it)
ReplyDeleteIf they had the tournament at AUM the UK fans would set up lawn chairs on the track that goes around the top. It'd be like dixie youth baseball super parents all over the place!
ReplyDeleteI like the event to be an venue made for basketball, if that's not too much to ask.
ReplyDeleteI would prefer it to be in Philips Arena instead of the Dome.
Philips Arena would be grrreat!
ReplyDeleteagreed Jet
ReplyDeleteBonner is a tremendous talent -- but good gracious get that girl a cheeseburger
I'm going to Philips to see the fighting Kobes play on the 29th.
ReplyDeleteHalftime:
ReplyDeleteAuburn 35, Ole Miss 29.
I don't mind it when they play in non-basketball venues. I thought the choice to have the 2003 Women's SEC Tournament at White Water Park in Atlanta was inspired (thought the wave pool was very difficult to sustain a dribble in)
ReplyDeletenice push to finish half with a decent lead
ReplyDeleteShaky half. We just have to "survive and advance" like Coach K says. Style points don't matter anymore.
ReplyDeleteMichael ...
ReplyDeleteHow could you think that when half the Mississippi State team got e Coli after their pre-game warmups in the kiddie pool?
and who can forget Coach Summit's bikini
ReplyDeleteYIKES!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIs "Survive and Advance" the hoops version of "Live to Punt?"
ReplyDeleteHornet, your support of the women's team brings me great joy. ;)
ReplyDeleteI remember Andy Landers' walk of shame down the steps when he chickened out of doing the speed slide.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't make me chuckle quite like "live to punt".
ReplyDeleteKirsty Coventry was honored at halftime as an "SEC Legend."
ReplyDeleteEasily one of my 10 favorite Auburn athletes of all time. She let me wear her gold medal one time, which was mighty awesome.
what can I say scottie b -- i love the ladies
ReplyDeletekirsty coventry is one of my favorite african-americans
ReplyDeletethat's pretty sweet JG.
ReplyDeletenothing wrong with the ladies Mr. H. nothin' at all.
kirsty rocks. she blogged from her first olympics.
ReplyDeleteSweet. I made it home during halftime, only to find the Mercer v Lipscomb is on.
ReplyDeleteMercer vs. Lipscomb?
ReplyDeleteSounds like a brawl will break out for sure.
Fox Sport South not CSS Peter F
ReplyDeleteThis looks much better!
ReplyDeleteOh, well in that case. I have a glorified infomercial disguised as a fishing show.
ReplyDeleteAuburn opens the second half on a 7-0 run ... so far.
ReplyDeleteGood run lady tigers!
ReplyDelete"Nell, run it up! Leave no doubt!"
ReplyDeleteMake that a 9-0 run.
ReplyDeleteScottie B,
ReplyDeleteI just took a straw poll. It looks like you just cost yourself the Hall of Fame.
Make that 11-0.
ReplyDeleteJet,
ReplyDeleteYou're a Hall-of-Famer in my book!
wow -- dominating run-- up 15
ReplyDeleteBonner now Auburn's all-time leading scorer with 2,070 points.
ReplyDeletePretty impressive.
Totally of topic: read this story (particularly the quotes on page two) involving Terrell Owens. Simply shocking:
ReplyDeletehttp://vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1014799/index.htm
Impressive Dewanna.
ReplyDeleteMost impressive.
Auburn currently up 16.
ReplyDeleteNell Fortner is starting to rest her starters.
michael -- link got cut off
ReplyDeletei can't remember the last time i listened to a women's bkb game on the radio/online. besides right now of course.
ReplyDeletescottie, you got a link?
ReplyDeleteThey will get run tomorrow if they have a little sleepy spell like this. Come on girls!!
ReplyDeleteLink got cutoff? Hogwash.
ReplyDeleteHogwash
Auburn leads by 13, 7:34 remaining.
ReplyDeleteOle Miss band did a nice rendition of Donna Summer classics earlier ... including "Hot Stuff" and "She Works Hard For The Money."

sorry, i haven't learned the fancy linky thing yet.
Scottie B - you have mail.
ReplyDeleteAuburn is up 11, 5:28 remaining.
ReplyDeleteThanks
ReplyDeleteper the AU ticket office -- the men's game vs LSU tomorrow is an official SELL OUT.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since the BEMC has rocked like I hope it does tomorrow
Hornet- Hilarious line earlier about K. Coventry. I giggled
ReplyDeleteAuburn up 64-57 wth 2:00 remaining
ReplyDeleteMake that 64-59.
ReplyDeleteHornet, I think the PC term for Coventry is American-African.
ReplyDeletethis one is slipping away
ReplyDeleteAuburn up 68-65 with :21 remaining.
ReplyDeleteAuburn has possession.
Kirsty is strictly African!
ReplyDeletebig shot Whitney -- Ole Miss playing for their lives -- AU playing for ???????
ReplyDeleteOle Miss on a 21-8 run.
ReplyDeleteSmalley and Hobbs haven't hit anything today.
ReplyDeleteThey're a combined 4-for-19.
ReplyDeletewow. i got busy and come back to this? hold on gals!
ReplyDeletethanks gatiger. i needed that. :)
Auburn now up 5 with :19 remaining.
ReplyDeletePF,
ReplyDeleteHow is Mercer doing?
Great job with the liveblog there, JGT! Thanks!
Close it out ladies!
4 of 19 = The Tony Franklin 3rd Down Experience
ReplyDeleteWe have to have a little killer instinct. Like I said before..If they don't pick it up they will so get run tomorrow. UF or UT (march version) beats them if they play like they did today. Lets go girls!!
ReplyDeleteAuburn wins, 71-65.
ReplyDeletescottie b -- you got busy? well done sir
ReplyDeleteMercer lost 82-60.
ReplyDeleteSurvived and advanced.
ReplyDeleteWHEW!
ReplyDeleteHooray, Jay G gets to stay in Little Rock another day.
ReplyDeleteI prefer Lays to Golden Flake.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the AU girls for holding on for the win!
ReplyDeleteNow, go rest up for the next game.
Re: Mercer - ouch!
funny guy that hornet is.
ReplyDeletebusy at work home cheese.
i thought about typing something else but it is TMI so i won't.
Mercer is still a lock for the final four if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, tough win Lady Tigers. But a win is all you need.
ReplyDeleteThey better be, Harrison. I already have my bracket filled out and have them in the winners square.
ReplyDeletemy final four: Mercer, N. Iowa, Dayton, Xavier
ReplyDeleteIs it true that Nell actually used puppet replicas of the girls today?
ReplyDeleteno lie, i was watching an episode of 'My Name is Earl' yesterday afternoon on Hulu.com (during Puppet Hour) that had 2 lifesize puppets in the episode).
ReplyDeletei totally forgot. it was good times. ha.
Harrison, after that game last night I'm not sure if Dayton is going to get it done. Feel free to insert AU into that last Final 4 spot.
ReplyDeletethat was Mercer womenz in that awful Sun Belt tourney loss earlier...
ReplyDeleteArticle on ESPN.com about FSU getting hammered by NCAA...scholly reductions in 10 programs including football and mens basketball for academic fraud
ReplyDeleteI sure wish i was on the Plains tomorrow. I'd hit the basketball game and doubleheader baseball:
ReplyDeleteThe series gets underway Friday at 6 p.m. CT. Saturday's doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. before closing the series Sunday at 1 p.m.
Fans attending Saturday's double-header will need just one ticket for both games.
ugh! if you can sit through 12 hours of baseball. I sure can't
ReplyDeleteWill. what about Texas Pan-Am. They're pretty good
ReplyDeleteHad to go away and just now returned to find my Auburn Tigers won today! Maybe now the jitters are out and we can go on to win the whole thing! War Eagle!
ReplyDeleteI hope the New York Times gets on the scene immediately.
ReplyDeleteHarrison, i worked with the baseball team back in 98-99. it was one of the highlights of my college experience. we had some good times at Plainsman Park. shoot, it was the last time we went to a Super Regional. looking back i wish i had been to more games before i worked for them.
ReplyDeletethanks Jay for making it easy for us to find out all that is happening without searching all over!
ReplyDeleteI was kind of kidding scottie. a couple of my buddies are big baseball guys and go to a lot of games. I'll show up for a few innings, but i get bored. I bet that was a fun year for you though
ReplyDeleteThank YOU for reading.
ReplyDeleteIt's much more fun when you know the opposing pitcher's girlfriend's name. Then you just shout random comments about her all game. Boredom solves....or learn how to score the game. Gives you something to do and a reason to pay attention.
ReplyDeleteNew York Times is coming to Little Rock? Are they searching for a new sports writer or something?
ReplyDeleteSo Ole Miss' coach, Renee Ladner, goes on this mini rant after the game about how the officials basically jobbed her team.
ReplyDeleteThe comments mysteriously have been omitted from the SEC's "official transcript."
Amazing.
I wonder if the NYT has interest in Florida State's academic malfeasance ... or is that strictly an SEC issue?
ReplyDeleteWhy does the SEC care, anyway?
ReplyDeleteJay G,
ReplyDeleteplease tell me you got Ole Miss's coach on video!!!
I just signed up for the HABOTN bracket..
ReplyDeleteI'd like to object to the password to enter though.
Not nice.
:-)
I think Jay's point is that if an SEC school was in trouble for academic fraud (like AU and SACS accreditation issues a few years back), the NYT would be on the scene and covering it full force. When other schools have the same issues.....not so much
ReplyDeleteThe password is: hatebama
ReplyDeleteJust thought I'd reiterate that.
This game sounds like even more of a battle than the last meeting, and that one had me worried towards the end. From the radio play-by play it seemed that AU was getting the short end of the stick from the refs. How did you see it Jay?
ReplyDeleteOh, I see...I thought they wanted to hire him.
ReplyDeleteI thought the officiating was pretty inconsistent both ways. Sounds like some sour grapes from the hotty toddy losers!
ReplyDeleteI just thought the officiating was poor overall. Weird calls against both teams.
ReplyDeleteBoddie's "charge" late in the game was a joke.
Goff was slapped on the arm several times while shooting without any fouls assessed.
With that said, I didn't think the officiating quality was way off what I typically see in women's basketball. It's pathetic at times.
FSJ,
ReplyDeleteWhat took you so long to sign up? Your objection is noted, but determined to be unfounded.
I love the tip time for the girls tomorrow! Won't miss a second on the way home from the LSU victory. That worked out nicely.
ReplyDeleteJay - if you think DI women's basketball officiating can be atrocious....just imagine high school basketball. It may drive me from the game one day.
ReplyDeleteOff to coach (assist) in a top 10 5A soccer match tonight. Here's hoping the linesmen understand off sides.
malfeasance: wrongdoing or misconduct especially by a public official

Jet - A link to the audio of that song is mandatory. We'll give you 'till Sunday. Now get to recording!!!!
ReplyDeleteI can see that being next weeks big youtube sensation!
ReplyDeletei wasn't hatin' or anything earlier Harrison. i hope i didn't come across that way. sorry if i did.
ReplyDeletei'm off for a date with my wife at Smoothie King. sweet! catch you peeps tomorrow.
give Little Rock hell tonite JG!
Beautiful Jet. Sorry I make you soil yourself, also. I have that effect.
ReplyDeleteyou dona't make me soil myself mikey. i can do that all by myself
ReplyDeleteIf I had a dollar for every time I soiled myself since becoming an adult, I would have $312.23. The 23 cents come from the 23 times I just dripped on my shoe a little bit.
ReplyDeleteAsk my wife about the time i accidentally did it in the car
ReplyDeleteI would, but remember, I don't even know if you or your wife exist.
ReplyDeleteQuestion for the hotties. In the womens bracketology page on espn.com http://sports.espn.go.com/ncw/bracketology
ReplyDeletethey have AU going to Iowa city as a 1 seed. All the other 1 seeds have round 1 and 2 at home. I would think this would be unprecedented. Even though we have horrible fan support, have they ever punished a 1 seed like that. That would be a bummer!
I forget these things, because we are so close in pretendo internet life.
ReplyDeleteI'm out. Keep the dream alive.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they put in a bid to host in advance..I don't even know why I got worked up over that, but for like 2.5 minutes I was (worked up).
ReplyDeleteI don't think Auburn put in a bid to host.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine Beard Eaves being attractive for a women's regional ... unless it were a tractor pull.
ReplyDeleteGotcha. Thanks Jay. Makes sense to me now. I couldn't believe it when I first read it because I always see the good teams hosting the first two rounds.
ReplyDeleteI would assume tractor pull regionals would sell out anywhere in this state because the monster trucks ALWAYS do for some reason. Events like those are a total anomaly to me!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIt'd be better if women were pulling the tractors
ReplyDeleteTractor pulls are loud. Permanent hearing damage loud.
ReplyDeleteGood Lawd Harrison!! That is such a cruel and sexist thing to say about Alabama women. They cant pull no stinking tractors, being bare foot and pregnant. They might slip for pete's sake! ;>
ReplyDeletewtf
ReplyDeleteWhew! That was too close for comfort! I know, I know, I'm late. I didn't start watching it until 2:30 and then I had things to do afterwards. They better not play like that tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteWar Eagle! Go Lady Tigers!
Slipping is part of a tractor pull. That, and/or exploded engines, pretty much determines the winner. So, what's the women's problem, again?
ReplyDeletewde! next up, the men beat lsu! my parents are going to the ncaa swimming championships hoping for a miracle. i'm stuck in tucson for the time being.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to go to that LSU game!
ReplyDeleteWDE!!
What up, peeps?
ReplyDeleteMore beat hack madness of BC Blvd tonight?
ReplyDeleteare we getting an aftermath of round one thread, with statements from the teams? its cool if the answer's no, but it'd also be cool if the answer is yes.
ReplyDeleteWill and I will be on hand for the corn dog game tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteIs the risk of investing/buying companies in communist nations a thing of the past? Coca-Cola thinks so.
ReplyDeletepeter, if you mean "post communist" countries, (poland, for example), the answer is a resounding no. if you mean cuba, i'd go for it.
ReplyDeletePF I just dont think there's enough room in my kitchen for a tractor. :) Ok let me act right before my wife sees this and gives me a concussion.
ReplyDeletesubstance, indeed.
ReplyDeleteI put all my money into snuggies stock
ReplyDeleteB- I'm pasting that comment to you Facebook page!!!!!!!!!!! Shame!
ReplyDeleteI anticipate more beat-hack "madness" tonight, though I'm the least likely to party these days.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to chill at the crib.
People in the clubs/bars are so much younger than me. It's creepy.
there's a delete button when people paste things on your page to get you in trouble...just sayin'
ReplyDeletethere's a delete button when people paste things on your page to get you in trouble...just sayin'
ReplyDeleteIf only there was a button to install a sense of humor. Just sayin.
ReplyDeleteyou'd be the first I'd send it to.
ReplyDeleteyou'd be the first I'd send it to.
ReplyDeleteMonica please dont!!! My wife would beat me for acting up in public lol She's little but she packs a wallop!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, B. I thought it was obvious that I was joking.
ReplyDeleteJay talk about creepy...this past weekend a few of us 'ole heads' went to a frat party on campus for their week. When I'd tell them when I pledged, their typical response was "Wow I think I was still in diapers!"
ReplyDeleteThat and one of my best friends from undergrad has a daughter at AU who's a sophomore...and she was at the party. Now that was creepy!
Oh yea Monica I knew you were joking...but I was serious about my wife lol.
ReplyDeleteCool and I have no doubt Mrs. B is 100% feisty. ;-)
ReplyDeleteChanging subject: Dave Hart FSU's Athletic Director when all this mess was going on did not get his contract extended. So where is he now? At Alabama being croomed to take over for Mel. WOW how fitting is that.

FSU got probation for academic fraud.
ReplyDeletere:FSU Students cheating in about 10 sports, mostly in football. Going to have some wins removed from Bowden's record, they haven't determined how many yet. Also might lose a NC in track and field.
ReplyDeleteDave Hart was not implicated in any of the NCAA's findings
ReplyDelete5 homers so far tonight for Auburn. In the bottom of the 6th 9-2 Tigers.
ReplyDeleteTrue PC but he was there during the time it was going on and for some reason they let him go.
ReplyDeleteMake that 10-2....
ReplyDeleteAnyone know why Hunter Morris isn't playing again tonight? He missed the last game against Davidson as well.
ReplyDeleteAre we hitting better, or is the opposing pitching just worse?
ReplyDelete
