Better late than never: Bonner is good

Hey everyone. During my commute to Tuscaloosa, which recently ended, Auburn guard/forward DeWanna Bonner was named the SEC's Player of the Year.

This is a surprise to nobody, of course, but it's still one heck of an honor.

Bonner led the league with 20.9 points per game. She also was among the top five in rebounding with 8.6 per game.

Auburn hasn't had a POY since Lauretta Freeman, one of my most favorite people ever, won it in 1993. It's been a while!

WTG Bonner! I like what one of my Facebook friends has posted on their status: "is ready for the Auburn men to win like the Auburn women! War Eagle and Beat Bama!"

  4. Anyone hear if it is outgoing or incoming SGA pres singing the bama fight song? I hate they have to do it, but I hope they do it with class.

  6. Cincy you win our admiration...

And are you especially sick of this cold weather??? I have a severe case of Spring Fever WAY too early.

  7. or are singing the bama fight song and class mutually exclusive?

  9. Monica,
I am sick of the cold weather, but at least B'ham is sunny. I just read where Cincinnati is one of the 10 unhappiest cities in the nation. One of the main reasons was the number of cloudy days! But, at least they have Graeter's ice cream?

  11. This may have been on a previous thread, but did anyone read about Bo Jackson sending flowers to Nell and red roses to all the girls on the basketball team? I thought that was pretty classy.

    Sing it proud...

  13. Where is Denny Crum tonight? It would be nice to hear some words of wisdom from him on this night of basketball talk.

  14. FSU -
I'm glad my son isn't SGA president - I'd have to wash his mouth out with soap for saying the words to "that" song. :)

  15. Cincy - that was mentioned somewhere earlier and I thought it was a very nice gesture by Mr. Bo Jackson.

  16. By the way, Baseball team is tied with Davidson 2-2 in the bottom of the 6th.

Softball team lost both games of their doubleheader with Mercer today. 7-6; 1-0.

  20. I thought Tampa might be a convenient option for me on my way to Atlanta next weekend, but I don't see me throwing out the 300 bones tickets are going for.

  23. A certain radio show in Bammerham is sure to turn Bo Jackson in to the NCAA for giving extra benefits to the women's team. I glad he did it anyway. I hope the "benefits" increase to a dozen each for an SEC title.

If they can win the NCAA, HABOTN fans should all chip in and fill Nell's office with flowers for her and the ladies.

The SGA rep should rub his bare butt all over the trophy before handing it back for a year. Or hide a dead fish in it or something...

I guess they do need to be reminded of what the trophy looks like. Most of their student body has probably never seen it. They had a good year and I don't mind loaning the thing to them until Auburn wins it back next year.

  25. A couple notes as I am trying to keep up on the blackberry (since the wifey has commandeered both computers this evening).

    A. BIG Props to Dewanna Bonner and Coach Nell Fortner on their achievements and recognition. It was much deserved in both cases.

    B. I could never sing "that song" without hurling afterwards.

    C. Congrats to my Mercer Bears for their softball win today.

    D. Someone on a real computer please bring forth my proposal for the HABOTN Tourney Bracket Challenge so that those who didn't see it earlier can voice their opinions. Someone keep count of the yays and nays please. I will (hopefully) return soon.

    WAR EAGLE! HATE/BEAT bama!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. Do I sense a subtle reference to Varsity Blues in this post's title...or maybe I'm just that immature.
