Can you feel it?
Hey everyone. As many of you all know, today represents the first day of spring football. Calm down. I know you're excited about practice ... despite what Allen Iverson might tell you.
So what's the haps?
It depends on how you see things. This is the first (documented) practice situation involving these players and these new coaches. Are you wondering how Gene Chizik handles business on the field? How about Gus Malzahn and Ted Roof Rusted?
Maybe some players?
Tell you what. I'll go with the Five Things That Interest Me going into the next month of football. Then you can counter with your interests in the comments section. We'll go from there.
SCHEUDLE UPDATE: Chizik with be speaking with reporters at 4 p.m. CDT. Practice begins at 7. Video will be allowed during a 30-minute window. I should be able to get that broken down and posted to the blog around 8:30.

- Chizik's demeanor: My best guess is that he's a hands-on guy who will be getting after people on the field. That would be a major deviation from the way Tommy Tuberville handled business.
- Quarterbacks: It's the same-ol, same-ol ... but it's still an issue. Has Kodi Burns streamlined his footwork? Can Chris Todd throw more authoritatively with a surgically repaired shoulder? Is Barrett Trotter legit? Can Neil Caudle stop throwing balls to the defense?
- PPL: I was intrigued by Phillip Pierre-Louis last season. I thought he could emerge as a serious contributor. Then he suffered a season-ending knee injury on the first play of the 2008 season. He claims to be back. Can he still be a game-breaking threat?
- Onterio McCalebb: They think the freshman, at Auburn via prep school, can be a Percy Harvin-type element in Malzahn's offense. I want to see this kid myself. I want to see how refined he is with the ball in his hands.
- Organization: I'll be interested to see how things operate. I watched Tuberville & Co.'s approach for 10 seasons. I'm sure Chizik, Inc., will handle things much differently ... with drills, with time dedicated to each drill, with time allocated to special teams, etc.

uNO!
One??
Jay G.
I know you for one are glad that something else is happening to report on other than Basketball, Baseball and Swimming?
J/K good luck we need information dude the HOTTIES are starving!
Poor starving HOTTIES.
The trough will open soon.
Quatro....but down this morning with the ladies defeat
Hopefully, I will enjoy the game tonight and start getting excited about football
Football!!!
MMMMMMMMfootball
Snort...Snort!!!!!Jay G.
We talking about Pratice? Pratice?
Come on Man.... this is Pratice!
We're talkin' about practice!
DL,
Sorry about your Boys defeat to the infidels Japan in the WBC!!!
Playoffs?!...Oh, I mean Practice?!
MMMMMM....Football. The only thing better than Football is Football wrapped in Bacon.
Mr. Tate,
I'd like to know more about the OL practice schemes and more specifically, the battle for the starting long snapper position.
Your pal,
J-Z
Not hungry for football yet because I am too skittish on the hope of a great year
16
I can't help but feel like a Bammer when reading this. You/we are getting excited about practice. We have a basketball GAME tonight, a very important GAME tonight. This mentality of "oh, football news, nothing else matters!" is why basketball can't ever be hugely successful at Auburn.
Won't Eltoro Freeman be in spring practice? If so, I would like to hear Jay's opinion of his play. Can he be the player we all thought T Blackmon would be?
FEAR THE BULL!
heard about the gannet furloughs last night. sorry 'bout that. in michigan, an entire chain of papers is closing up, and the major papers are going to 3 days a week publication. hopes it's not a sign of things to come. that being siad, we need to whoop some bears tonight! as has already been discussed, bears are right down there with puppets.
that's right scott. Bears are the #1 threat to human existence
Even though I LOVE football, it's hard for me to get excited about it this early. I'm still into basketball right now.
That being said, I always appreciate Jay G's insight on things and enjoy reading what he has to say about Auburn football.
Luv, spring practice means A-Day is coming. A-Day means one more chance to hang out in JHS for an afternoon. if that's not exciting, then, well........ :)
im interested to see if any of our assistants will look as much like a hobo as tony franklin did
I to am needing a Football Fix. But, I am also looking forward to the Basketball game tonight. Go Tigers beat them Bears and move on to NYC. Jay, will the paper allow you to make a trip to the Big Apple if Auburn makes it?
Practice? Ya'll talking about practice? Practice?
Hey, like the President Obama said:
"This HOTTIE NATION is big enough to do two things at one time"....
So i will be ready for Basket ball tonight and Football today...
See i can chew bubble gum and talk at the same time!
My biggest question in spring practice is who will our coaching scapegoat be this year without Greg Knox to blame for any the receiving/passing game problems?
I think there is a little added excitement this spring as there is a new HC and staff in place. I think people(including myself) are curious to see what changes, for better or for worse, are put into place. I would imagine the players feel some of this also.
So anyone know who the weekend baseball series is the weekend of A-day?
RK,
You mean Greg Knox really wasn't our problem last year?
Knox wasn't the solution, which always makes him part of the problem.
RK- baseball at S.Carolina that weekend
I am intrigued by this year's addition of spring practice. I just we come out of spring practice without injuries and with a starting QB.
I would hope that if Trotter is even close to being legit, that we bite bullet and go with him this year. Unfortunately for Todd, I just don't think his surgically repaired shoulder is going to be ready. I hope it is, because in my estimation, he is the best QB on the roster when it comes to playing the position. I am trying hard not to prejudge and be biased Kodi Burns, but the irrational love of him last year makes it hard to become enamored with him this year.
I would hope Neil Caudle would do better, but, I think, he is similiar to Kodi Burns in that we have seen both of them being all that they can be. I don't think there is much left to bring out unless he has had some ephiphany moment in the offseason and will quit throwing it to the other team.
I hope none of the OL or RBs get injured during spring ball.
I hope Chizik will be hands on during spring ball and the upcoming summer practice, but back off some during the season. I think the players need this kind of coach right now. He appears to me to be a coach that will be hard on his players but defend them until the end. I hope they see that as well.
I plan on being at the game tonight before going incommunicado for a few days. I will be monitoring all the basketball games Thursday through Sunday simualtaneously through my bank of monitors with real time statistics.
I believe that makes two A-day games in a row where the baseball team is on the road.
Coordination guys!
i'm giddy with anticipation...
RK, I think Malzahn is thought of as one of the top OC's in the college game. There have been a lot of questions regarding talent, scheme, coaching etc at AU. It will be interesting to see how he uses the players on the current roster in his offensive scheme. I am worried that he is going to have to work with a very thin(depth-wise) OL. I hope the O-line play doesn't limit his play-calling ability.
As long as the thin OL isn't the type of thin they were last year.
FOOOOOOOOT BALLLLLLLLLLL!
JGT....perfect summary of the QB situation..no additional fan opinions needed...time to wait and see. QB discussion = BC coach discussion. This goes for you too Michael.
OL...OL....OL....WR...WR..WR. Fix those and the Offense will survive.
I readily take for granted that the D will be good....we are....AU.
JGT...One more thing. Ya gotta do the OL/DL--one on one recaps. You got great insight there and the 10,000 newbies around here haven't had the pleasure.
What I want for spring practice_ no more of those little choppy feet receiving/passing drills. I don't think that's asking too much.
I hope AU basketball does well. The folks that like it should wholely support it. Complaining to the football folks is not supporting basketball.
I can watch the women's games b/c the refs call those games closer to the actual rules.
In the men's game: "boxing out" resembles a scrum, refs call travelling when a defender pushes the ballhandler causing his foot to slip, yet let a ballhandler take 3 steps on the way to a photogenic dunk, A posted up offensive player is allowed to shuffle his feet as long as he is attempting to move the ball around or shoot, yet if he gets pushed and slips his foot then travelling is called.
I watch AU when I can, but in general that game is not for me.
I think I'd like the same thing from the basketball team that I'd like from the football team (no not the choppy feet thing) I just want them to look like they know what's going on, and not look lost. When they are on their game, they are quite a good team. Oh yeah, and 80% from the FT line will make things good too. Hey I can dream.
hoopie ... I'd love to do the OL/DL one-on-ones, but practice will be closed for the most part. I won't be able to watch much.
kurt ... so glad you're here. Stop by anytime with your keen insights.
Jay, I'm wondering how reporters cover what they can't watch. Do you guys hang around outside waiting for practice to end? I know some fans feel different, but I hate having practices closed to reporters.
Spring Practice. 5 Win -7 Loss guys playing 5 Win -7 Loss guys. I can't wait to see if this coaching staff can do something meaningful with them. The problem is we won't know till the fall.
We basically have to rely on what we're told. I do my best to discern fact from fiction -- I'm getting better with that every year -- but seeing is believing.
Of course, I saw Franklin's offense and thought it would be good.
Barnhart mentions us 1st in 5 SEC QB Battles.
JGT - You should've heard Cowherd railing on bloggers today. It was shameless.
will Chizik's and co.'s lies be tougher to decipher that Tubs and co.?
In reply to people who are sad we are talking about football instead of bball: I am rooting for our bball team and all that, but come on, they are in the NIT. We basically made the losers bracket. I don't think it is just insane that we pay attention to football while also paying attention to the bball boys going after their consolation prize.
agreed Michael. I will be paying attention to both. I would love fot the bball team to be good year in and year out. I forgot how much fun it was to go to bball games again and have a chance to win big games
ehyou - usually when the mainstream media rags on bloggers, it is in response to tmz types like Deadspin and all that. Did what he say apply at all to blogs by beat writers of specific sports teams?
you think he was talking about your blog Michael?
Our blog is harmless, like a puppy Harrison. I have only been following since last August, but I am pretty sure Jay hasn't posted any photos of Matt Leinart partying or consistently trashed other media outlets. Why would anyone say anything mean about us? It's not fair!
His main contention was that bloggers are "anti-establishment", but if offered a real job at an "establishment", they would jump at it.
So if you consider the Advertiser a real job (he he he), then he was not targeting JGT.
I am:
1. Giddy about football.
2. Ready to speculate about QBs. Sorry, Hoopie.
3. Pumped about the game tonight.
I must (cough) agree with Jet.
I do possess the capacity to be excited about football and basketball in the same day.
ehyou - I think Cowherd is right about people who blog for a living. In fact, the editor at Deadspin left last summer for a magazine job.
WDE folks, good to hear the football chat. A few things about some of the previous comments.
I don't think it is difficult to be loyal to AU football and AU BB at the same time. Just spend less focusing on your job and pay more attn to AU.
Denny, I have to disagree. I don't think we have seen the best Burns has to offer. Don't really have anything to back that up, just wishful thinking.
Does anyone know anything about Baylor? I know they have won a few big games this yr, but have no idea what kind of team they have. I will be there tonight to find out.
Mobilz, I am worried that you might be working too hard. Your posts have been too infrequent. Your contributions are vital to the success of this blog. We need you to focus on the HABOTN and stop wasting your time at your real job.
Was the topic of this blog supposed to be basketball?
I think this post is a lot like they guy who called Jay G. on the air and wanted to know if he had played basketball and had he not, he wasn't entitled to an opinion on basketball.
Just because we are talking football, doesn't mean we aren't wishing the basketball team well and hoping for a trip to NYC.
Anyway, Jay G, you on the air today or is Doug back?
Will, I know Baylor is red-hot right now. They destroyed Va. Tech in the road last weekend. You going?
Question for the group - If I were able to get down to Auburn tonight are there tickets available, and any idea on the cost?
I think around $15 or so Tommy.
I'd also say, plenty of tickets will still be available.
General admission tickets are avaliable for $10. I believe the reserved tickets are $15.

I too think you can be concerned about BBall and FB. Why do you think God gave you two eyes and two ears. Pay attention with both. Heck with 4 choices you can even include Baseball and WBB (oh i forgot, we got thumped), maybe gymnastics.
Thanks y'all
Jet.. just when we think we're makin' progress....
I think I've got the standard QB comments saved from years past just in case Ya'll need them pasted.
JGT....good point about the closed practices. Dang...I believe in closed practices...now I've got to accept that dearth of info.
If practices/scrimmages are closed, then all we have are the player interviews after practice. Yeah boy....that will make for riveting QB speculation. Bring on the cliches.
Maybe the spring game won't be...ummm...generic.
Spring games as long as they are televised will be generic.
It is possible that Malzahn's "ludicrous speed" offense can't actually be caught on camera, so there's no need to open practice to something you can't even see.
I think they will just run it at "ridiculous speed" during an open practice.
Hoopie's Successful Spring Game Viewing = Watching for player's fundamentals/strength improvement and fit into the schemes.
All else is superfluous speculation or rumor.
Can you feel it?
I used to, then my grandmother said it would make me go blind
I guess Doug is back. I didn't receive an offer to go on the air today.
As for Cowherd railing against bloggers, well, I don't really care what he thinks.
Cash money says he reads blogs. It's the same piety you Montgomerians hear on the WMSP morning show. They rip reporters, rip the Advertiser, rip blogs ... then read from them verbatim. They're certainly not going to spent their time with tedious endeavors like reporting the news themselves.
They'll just learn from real reporters ... and occasionally pass that work off as their own in an effort to pimp their "credibility."
I hope that last post was clear enough for you, John Longshore.
Just yankin' yer chain, Hoopie.
But if you could forward some of the previous comments, it would save time down the road.
I echo Denny's thought that I hope Barrett is upwardly mobile enough to invest him for the near term.
As for irrational love for Kodi, I don't know if I was guilty of such, but was definitely frustrated with a QB that couldn't throw the ball over the umpire's head without serious air under it.
I don't know if Kodi is the answer this year. If he is, hopefully it will be because he's made incredible strides.
Either way, I've got to believe we'll be more function as a team because of the staff configuration.
Wasn't Cowherd accused of stealing a post from MGo blog (a Michigan blog) and using it on air as his own. Ironic
RK..gotta televise the Spring games because I record and review them. BTW....I realize that's pretty geeky.
Jet....I'm with ya. I was just tugging back, although I'm not adept at such.
Longshore is the somewhat Terry Bowden sounding guy, right?
Awesome....Football is back for a brief stay. This is the first spring I have been excited about since...well, since Tubs first year. All the changes will make for an interesting spring, just too bad you will pretty much have to be with the team to see it. Tubs was the first coach at Auburn to really open things up to the public. Bowden had closed practices and I'm pretty sure that Dye did too. Bowden would assign managers to check for people watching thru fences and what not, he was that paranoid.
Just glad to be back on a subject that I am familiar with :)!
Eddie,
So was Bowden afraid the media would realize that the DB's and RB's were in close competition to see who was closest to the same hight as the head coach?
For Your Reading Pleasure (or dismay), the following is Hoopie's Guide to Spring Football Fandom:
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM SPRING PRACTICE:
Spring Practice is the where football fundamentals are taught and developed. Early Fall Camp brushes up on and reinforces fundamentals, but if these aren’t developed in the Spring, it’s too late to do it in the Fall.
A new coaching staff has the additional task to teach the new offense/defensive schemes. The scheme fundamentals and only some of the fine points are taught in the Spring. The fine points of the schemes are added in the Fall.
The new coaches have to begin to evaluate all of the player’s abilities and where to fit them into the new schemes. This is a good opportunity for late bloomer type players, b/c pre-conceived abilities don’t exist.
WATCHING SCRIMMAGES:
Notice basic: blocking, tackling, catching, throwing, coordination, body control and reaction/decision skills
Don’t get hung up on: offense or defensive play-calling successes, failures or inconsistencies.
In the A Day scrimmage, the defense will probably be very vanilla, without stunts or blitzes. The offense should run through a variety of plays, but few, if any, trick plays. Although this is a new coaching staff, they will probably do like last season’s coaches during the A Day game and allow the offense to run through the plays without a lot of special defense to handle. Defense is easier to teach and would normally be ahead of the offense anyway, in fact, given our offense history this is probably even more the case.
In particular, I will look forward to see if some of our most glaring offensive fundamentals problems are improved: OL mobility, OL timing, entire range of WR fundamentals, QB ability to go through progressions.
Most folks were pumped last Spring that we were making very good offensive “progress” and we know how what happened……so don’t get excited or bummed b/c of the A Day scrimmage.
Eddie, what is your take on open practices? Are they a distraction to the players? I loved going to watch the open practices, so I was disappointed in the closed practice policy. I am not arguing on the coach's right to close them or not, I want to make that clear. I just appreciate your input in these matters.
This comment has been removed by the author.
JGT - That was a very nice shot at that Bama bum Longshore. Your point was made succinctly.
Fundamentals are important and must be taught in the spring. Teaching the team all new terms is also important during the spring.
But the one thing you cannot see, touch or feel is team chemistry, how they feel about each other and the coaching staff. Do they understand the players next to them both there strengths and weaknesses.
This is somehow instilled in them as they work hard to achieve one goal, to win every game.
I hope this coaching staff has this ability whether they realize it at this time or not.
RK- Bowden had the typical Napolean complex. He was scared of everything. If you had practice tape, you had to log it in and out and if it went missing, which it did one time during bama week, then the other team stole it!
Shhhh...
Jay G will break the story later on HABOTN, but the rumor is that the defense in last year's A-Day game was actually from Lee-Scott Academy.
I don't have a problem with paranoid coaches. Look at the New England Patriots. Don't you think Saban is capable of using unethical spying techniques? That sort of thing has been going on since the beginning of football. Coaches who have been around know it happens at every level. It's like complaining about metal detectors at an airport because you have never seen anyone bring a gun onto a plane before.
Sure some coaches' techniques are overkill, but better safe than sorry.
Also, I don't consider banning reporters to be a necessary step to keep spies out or anything, but I understand the reasoning as far as keeping the things that happen in practice in house.
Depressed- I honestly like the closed practice. Less distraction. I know when we first opened up practices, it became a big distraction among players and they would tend to pay less attention at times during practice.
I bring a gun onto airplanes because what are the chances of 2 guns on one plane?
I don't need a gun, I bring Chuck Norris onto planes with me.
How closely will Malzahn work with the defense during Ole Miss week?
LMAO @ JGT punking JL
Eddie, by that same token, maybe your employer should make you work in a 9' by 9' room with nobody else in it. No window. Just you and the work.
I'm sure you'd be more productive that way. Less distractions, you know.
I don't know how you can say you've seen the best you are going to get out of Kodi. He clearly was confused and nervous out there on the field last year. Will that go away with better coaching/better surrounding staff? I have no clue, but if it does he has the tools to be a good player.
I'm not gaga over him, but if his flashes of brilliance could become the norm I would obviously love to have him in our backfield.
That said I think having Trotter already at a level that can take the field is our best option.
Either way I am ready for football season to start. I really wish Pro would run in the spring so we could have football year round. The off season sucks. Oh well baseball season starts soon so lots of Rays games for me.
Good luck to the men tonight.
Sorry guys, had no clue that was going to come out as a dissertation... try to keep it shorter from here on out.
Eddie, maybe they should close games as well. No fans. The fans aren't part of the game. It's just 11-on-11 when you get down to it -- that and some referees -- so keeping the gates closed on game day may give the Tigers more focus.
focus is over-rated. Michael does more work than Eddie because he's more talented, despite his lack of focus.
The Manager of the Tampa Bay Rays was spotted in uniform, URINATING on the side of I-75 beside the team bus on the way home from Jupiter. Do those fancy buses not have restrooms on them, or is he just a nature guy?
Wake,
"He clearly was confused and nervous out there on the field last year."
I think Kodi might be just one of those naturally nervous guys.
"but if his flashes of brilliance could become the norm"
I didn't see many, or maybe even any of these flashes of brilliance. I saw some flashes of competence.
I don't think Kodi is a lost cause, but I'm also not sure he's ever going to be the player we were hoping he'd become.
Those Kodi haters out there need to get a different attitude, because I'm pretty sure he will be your qb in 2009.
PF- peeing outside is way more fun
JGT - I just heard something, did you get another email?
Another email ... from whom?
I wish JGT would tell us what he really thinks about closed practices.
Mr. Dubow?
I don't hate Kodi, I just haven't seen anything out of him that says average to above average SEC QB.
If he can put it all together this year, then I'm fine with him being the QB.
It's not paranoia if everyone really is trying to figure out what Auburn will run next season.
Right?
RK - Who do you think would be a better choice? Realizing there are a number of ifs.
I haven't received an email today. I got a doozy yesterday from Mr. Dubow.
Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean that everybody is NOT out to get me.
Jay,
Here a few questions to start?
1. What are the odds Chizik rips his shirt off ala Kiffin and breaks the podium at todays pre-meeting?
2. What are the odds Lebo wears a terrible tie and shirt combo to go with the last few weeks dressings? I didnt know Goody's had a going out of business sale for Easter
3. Also, Is all of the money for the basketball arena already obtained or is it half in cash and half in Colonial stock? If so we could be in trouble, it would be concrete walls and a dirt pit if the $ runs out, might be kinda cool, like a Roman arena...
Maybe it was yesterday.
pdwt ... we'd need lions and chariots!
Furloughs announced yesterday.
Top six Gannett bosses are splitting $2 million in bonuses, though. Good for them.
I'm not sure who would be the best choice out of this group. The big IF is Todd's shoulder. If it is healthy, then I think he's the best choice unless Burns suddenly learns patience and calms his nerves.
I haven't seen enough of Trotter to know where he fits in.
Jay, I like it, like you go for a layup and whoom you get eaten by a tiger or a speared by a chariot rider...
Maybe the lions would be there to encourage better free throw shooting.
Kiffin was on First Take today and was asked about all the bulletin board material he is supplying FL. He answered that he was happy that UT logos are all over the FL locker room for their recruits to see.
He likes the controversy
Jay,
Do you think with the current QB situation or lack thereof we could convince Scott Bacula to suit up like in scott bakula in necessary roughness
That sux Jay....sorry to hear that.
Mr. Turkey ...
Good news in re Colonial Bank ... its stock is three times higher than it was two weeks ago -- it's gone from 29 cents to 94 cents.
So we've got that going for us.
I'm waiting on the 1st Kiffin/Orgeron disagreement and how ugly that could get.
I agree, but I found that a little shocking from Mr. Madden. Then again. he was in uniform (why he didn't change after the game like a normal person is just as curious). Pretty much anything is acceptable behavior when wearing a baseball uniform.
also, I kinda enjoy Kiffin. I'm sure I'll end up hating him like I do Spurrier, but I still find both humorous.
Unless ESPN pulls another stunt, it looks like the game tonight will be on here in middle GA. Woohoo!
They will rip each others shirts off.
Ok..I see UT using Pro wrestling marketing techniques to market their program, per the smack talking and shirt ripping... They definitely have Coach Orgeron as a tag team member, who would Auburns Coaches/Tag Team Members be?
Tracy Rocker-Outlander(outland trophy)
Coach Chizik-Road Warrior
??????
Kiffen's gonna be in trouble if he tries to take one of Orgeron's corndogs.
Kiffen's got a lot of winning to do to deserve Spurrier-esque ire.
Lolley - George "The Animal" Steele
Trooper - Tony Atlas
Grimes - Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka
I want Coach Chiz to come out at the press conferences to Hulk Hogans theme song? doing the ear wave thing every time Jay asks a question, i like it....
Who would be Randy "Macho Man" Savage? Further, who would be the requisite "Lovely Miss Elizabeth"?
Yoxall - Would be Savage.
TBD - With Elizabeth.
Elizabeth would be Kiffins wife...Auburn...mmmm..dont know...
Oh duh!!
Auburn Cheerleaders would be Elizabeth.
Jay- Sorry to hit your nerve. I was just answering my preference, never said that it was a right way or wrong way idea. I can understand you wanting the practices open.
On the note of closed games, I think it would have been in Auburn's interest to close games last year!
Peter- whatever dude. I must not get your humor.
Jay,
I know you watch JJ Abrams tv show "Lost" have you seen his other show on Fox "Fringe"?
Still can't believe Miss Elizabeth died a few years back. Tragic.
Jay G, I don't think I understand your "work in a 9 by 9 room with no window" analogy. They play football outside, so you don't need windows, and there are a ton of people on the team and coaching staff and support staff. So you know, no one is lonely.
And I must admit, if a reporter sat down and watched me all day, I might find it a tad distracting. I am sure I would get used to it though.
So, to me, the coach has to make a choice between giving more info to the fans through allowing the media to see more and shutting them out to make sure their team is in more of a protected bubble. No right or wrong, just choices.
depressed - the list at the website is shocking for old wrasslin fans:
http://prowrestling.about.com/od/whatsrealwhatsfake/a/wrestlersdeaths.htm
"Eddie, by that same token, maybe your employer should make you work in a 9' by 9' room with nobody else in it. No window. Just you and the work."
Isnt that called and office?
*an office
Eddie,
My humor sucks. Mon was supposed to be finding a humor button that would instantly make me and her funny, but I never heard back.
Having never worked with you or Michael, I obviously didn't mean anything. Just a bunch of not funny nonsense, I tell ya. Nonsense.
michael, shocking is a good word to describe the rash of wrestlers dying at a young age. That lifestyle is brutal on a person and his family. The mixture of illegal drugs, prescription drugs, steroids and time on the road alone has had tragic consequences.
hip-hop sighting!
plus, rafter stunts aren't safe.
I don't know if they resemble any of our coaches, but I always liked KoKo B Ware, The Ultimate Warrior, and JYD
PF, are you talking about the Owen Hart accident? That was a horrifying event.
anybody feel like high fives are in order?
Was that who it was? For some reason, I thought it was Eddie Guerero, but I guess that was drugs. Yeah, falling from the rafters is not healthy. I hope our coaches don't do that.
My favorite was Jerry "The King" Lawler
One of the best live events I ever witnessed was the "Hell in a Cell" PPV in Birmingham. Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H and Kurt Angle were only some of the performers that night. It was an outstanding show.
Raymond Harbert about to be confirmed by state Senate to Auburn Board of Trustees.
I think the combo of steroids, cocaine, and painkillers is what does the majority of young wrestlers in.
Nothing more troubling than the C. Benoit story. I almost puked when I heard about it.
Look like Nell and the staff fell from the rafters last night.
Maybe we ought to lock them in an office for a few days.
If they played football in an office with windows, would Chris Todd be able to break a window with a pass? Discuss.
Jet,
Can we get his stats and background?
wow. dude really likes university boards.
Harbert stats ...
Son of John Harbert, who was the richest man in Alabama. Multimillionaire in his own right.
Questionable as to whether he hates UAT.
I watched the Owen Hart fall pay-per-view on the scrambled channel. Most people used the scramble channels for porn, but i occasionally listened to/attempted to catch glimpses of wrasslin pay per views. But anyway, talk about weird. I had no idea what was going on.
He went to Auburn
Harbert is official for the next 7 years by a vote of 27-1.
Are you saying he's a Willis type of Auburn man, and will abandon is Alma Mater when UAT comes calling? Those are steep allegations.
Billion is a big number.
Who was the 1?
I surely hope that the photo of Cris Todd isn't reflective of this year's team capabilities.
Sen. Penn of Union Springs voted no. He and two other African-American Senators expressed disappointment that neither an African American nor a female was nominated. Sen. Penn was very kind toward Harbert, but said he was voting "no" out of principle.
As to your other query, I don't know if he is dedicated to the proposition that UAT is inherently evil and must be destroyed. I don't think he would defect; I merely question his naivete.
michael, a combo wrasslin/porn channel? Interesting concept.
depressed - if that happened you make a mint, but many young men would never leave the house.
Not combo - Movies and wrasslin came on channel 99 as I recall. I have no idea what might have been on the other channels...
Can I say that I must be the only male in America that has absolutely no interest in wrestling ... or rassling?
Not me Jet, no interest in rasslin' either. I also have no interest in NASCAR.
jet, my wife loves to make fun of me for my wrestling passion. Nothing can run the ladies out of the room quicker at my house than flipping over to some wrestling.
I am about 9 years clean (of wrasslin). It was a lot of fun to follow in high school, though.
You know, the wrestlers never acted like Mean Gene was a distraction, you know?
I haven't watched wrestling in awhile, but Ric Flair was always my favorite.
Back to football, who will be this years Kodi Burns & Mario Fannin? You know, the guys the majority of the fans on the internet say will change things if they could only get playing time.
My guess is this years Burns and Fannin will be....Burns and Fannin.
Neil Caudle and Onterrio McCalebb are my predictions.
Fannin will get his opportunity to shine or flop.
i am a big rasslin' fan.
rasslin' occurs in the backyard between friends after much alcohol is consumed while the other drunks watch and throw beer on you.
the first one to puke from exhaustion is the loser.
wrestling (professional as some call it) is a wee bit queer imo...
Jet, which one do you predict Mario will do, shine or flop?
yeah Jet, which one?????
my only concern this spring is OL.
if they can't block, the RBs can't run, the QBs can't throw, and WRs will not run routes.
it will be nice to not have and OL coach who has already pigeon-holed all of his players before anything is proven on the practice fields.
would this lineup bring cheers or jeers?
RT A. MCCAIN
RG J. COOPER or B. EDDINS
C R. PUGH
LG B. ISOM
LT L ZIEMBA
BIG SNACKS is an afterthought unless he was banned from the golden arches over the offseason.
I'll split the difference, Depressed. I'll say he "twinkles."
I think Fannin will probably have one or two great games but then lose use one or two other games and then not get the ball much in the other games while people are screaming "GET IT TO FANNIN!"
get MF the ball in space and he will shine.
run him between the tackles and he will flop.
Chip ...
This is a family blog ... oh, I get it. MF is Mario Fannin.
Maybe I misheard Muschamp. BOOM Mario Fannin! Knock those Mario Fannins out!
i'll only use "that word" here talking about $aban.
My five big Spring Issues?
1. Secondary- Is Aaron Savages knee healed? If not, when. Will our Mike McNeil ever learn to hit anyone or cover? he had a bad soph slump
2. Has anyone seen the ghost of Raven Gray? How is his knee? Is he on campus?
3. Will Gabe McKenzie stay at DE or will he come back to TE, especially with Trott recovering from a knee surgery
4. Will any of the freshman from last years signing class make an impact this spring? Any of them bulked up?
5. Will Ben Tate have a break out year?
I just hope it doesn't rain too much this spring.
PDWT, I believe Raven Gray is no longer at AU. Another big-name signee who never contributed while at Auburn.
whatever happened to TEs bailey woods and brent slusher?
were they two more "greg knox specials"?
Kiffin WILL NOT call Urban. Good for him, I say.
Grape Slush got trashed by Jay, then got hurt, then became a spy for campfire attendee Jaybar and his scoop...only part of that probably really happened.
Chip,
I know for a fact that Slusher is dumber than rocks and a friend of mine said they have no clue how he got on campus as he good not start in the campus intramural league. It could be worse for the kid, he could still be back in applachia. lol. Woods, he is the same, free scholly. I have heard good things about last years tight end vance smith.
At Auburn about 30% make it and contribute the rest get lost in the wasteland, thats why we have always have problems with depth.
Grape Slush had a 3.8 GPA in high school.
they guy that will have to have a big season for the O to get headed in the right direction is Deangelo Benton. he can take some pressure off of the other WRs and should be ready to play being three years removed from high school. he should be the best WR on the team day one if we are to believe the hype and how PO'd the corndogs were when he left the state.
Jaybar and Slusher were tight. According to Jaybar, one time Ensminger got really mad about a player who didn't show up to practice, but then it turned out the player had season ending surgery. Jaybar had the scoop, man.
Pte Frank, I meant dumb on the field, sorry. They say he looks like a lost dog at every position and couldnt hit wind in a fart factory.
PDWT, that is the point I try to make discussing AU recruiting with SteveFC. The rankings don't look so bad, but if you look deeper, there has been a stunning attrition rate of TOP players(at least they were supposed to be). This next recruiting class is critical to bring in some much-needed talent at several positions.
Will Herring always looked lost, and he made it into the NFL. So I guess maybe it isn't always a bad thing?
