It'll be Auburn-Vanderbilt for the Big One

Hey everyone. The Vanderbilt Commodores have advanced to the SEC Tournament final, so they'll face Auburn tomorrow night for The Tournament Hardware.

The game begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN2.

Before you get too excited: Vanderbilt has won 14 consecutive games against Auburn.

Here are some comments Auburn had to say about various topics.

ALLI SMALLEY, Auburn guard
On playing Vanderbilt: ``They're so disciplined. They'll keep running their offense until they get the shot they want. That's hard on a defense."

On if Vanderbilt's streak will make a difference Sunday: "Maybe in a motivating way. Nobody here has beaten them -- even the seniors."

SHERELL HOBBS, Auburn forward
On first-half problems against Tennessee: "We let the crowd into it. We weren't hitting on all cylinders. It all went back to offensive rebounding."

VAN CHANCELLOR, LSU head coach
On the 13 offensive fouls called: ``I watched that Tennessee-Auburn game and I'm not saying it was bad, but the officials have grown in love with the offensive foul. If I was paying good money to watch a game, I would want to see a little offense. All the games I have seen today -- offensive fouls? Lord."

MELANIE BALCOMB, Vanderbilt coach
On playing Auburn: "We just have to play tremendous team defense. Bonner is very, very good as well all know, but their supporting cast is very good, too. You can't just stop her. It comes down to who wants it most."

  1. Wait, the LSU head coach had to PAY to watch Auburn v TN? I find that odd.

  2. I think he was just making a point, but he took it to the house.

  3. I just can't get past this team never having beaten Vandy. They have beaten some really good teams. What's the hangup? Does Vandy just match up to Auburn's personell and style that well, or is there something else to it?

  4. by "this team," I meant current players.

  7. that girl dunking -- I'm not ready to deal with that -- way too many hormones in the milk these days. That really freaks me out and I'm not sure why

  8. If a girl's man enough to dunk on me, she's man enough to get socked in the mouth for the disrespect of that act.

j/k, of course. I'd never hit a lady. Besides, that's one scary chica.

  17. We should be so so thankful this guy Joe Lunardi (the bracketologist) is not on the selection committee. As of almost midnight, after all of todays crazy games, he STILL says Auburn is not on the radar and that South Carolina (with a HORRIBLE resume) and Florida with a worse record than Auburn are the only other SEC schools in the conversation with the locks LSU and UT. I just don't get it. This Auburn team clearly deserves an at large bid. That underachieving Auburn team a few years ago that went 8-8 in the league, got in, and went to the sweet 16. Why on Earth can't this 10-6 team be on this pompous toolbag's radar. This shouldn't grind my gears as much as it does..but oh well. I could talk about this forever because I love this stuff, but NONE of it makes sense. His last four out includes Maryland. Freaking Maryland lost to the soft dook team by 40+ and got beat by Virgina today. Where's the love for Auburn! As of right now it's just with Jay Bilas, Hubert Davis, Robert Montgomery Knight, and the HABOTN. blah

  19. Wow I was out at a motocross race with no internet access all day. Just got home to all of this great news.

More great news, I may very well get to go to the Men's sec tourney.

  20. Great way to finish a weekend?

Get rid of this stupid Vandy streak and win the SEC tournament.

We need Tennessee to pummel UAT today to help our numbers.

Kick in the Dores, Beat UAT!

  21. By the way, Jay G ... one of the officials in yesterday's game was a Gump native.

  22. I had such a busy Saturday, but I was able to keep up with all the Auburn news via HABOTN. Thanks Jay GT and all the Hotties for the up-to-date blogging. I hate I missed the men's game, but I was able to watch the 2nd half of the women's game which was phenomenal. Can't wait for tonight's championship. Both the men's and women's team are definitely 2nd half teams. They are fun to watch.

  24. morning Kathy and Jet!

it was a great double-header on AU Tiger tv here yesterday. can't wait for tonite's game.

playing Vandy worries me. especially with that history. however, if you want to be the best in the country.......... just win baby!

  25. Scottie B ...

It was clear to me that Vandy was going to win that regular season game ... it had loss written all over it.

This is different. This is about arriving at your destiny.

    Today, we win.

  26. i concur Jet.

coming off that huge win at home over the Lady Vols, then traveling to Nashville it did feel like a loss going in.

today we win. i like it.

  27. As to Andrew's point about Auburn men getting no love, I find is strange as well.

I have to believe Auburn is at least in the conversation. Several of my fellow beat hacks, whose opinions I trust, concur with Lunardi.

  28. Andrew, I saw that crap on midnight madness last night. The gameday guys were talking about what seed we would get, but Joe Lunardi won't even bring us up in a conversation. I don't think they ever even showed the highlights of our game. Pathetic.

Whatever Joe Lunardi gets paid, it's too much.
