A strong day for the Tigers

Hey everyone. So we were chatting in the comments section about all the wins Auburn accrued in various athletic pursuits today.

It's one impressive list.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Auburn beats LSU, the SEC West's top team, and moves to 21-10. Jeff Lebo's team appears on the cusp of an NCAA Tournament berth.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Auburn gives Tennessee coach Pat Summitt the worst post-season loss of her career Saturday. Nell Fortner's team appears headed for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

BASEBALL: Auburn takes two games from Brown University, tallies 29 hits (including 13 for extra bases) in the process.

SOFTBALL: Auburn takes two from Ole Miss (including one in extra innings) to open the SEC season.

EQUESTRIAN: Auburn wins at No. 1 Baylor, which included a 7-3 mauling in Hunt Seat.

  3. Auburn still leads the SEC in homers, with 28...LSU made up some ground today, though, by blasting 7 homers(3 grand slams in the 20-10 victory) to bring their total to 26.

This is a re-post from the last thread. Just wanted to express thanks to the Hotties.

Dang......I go down to Statesboro to spend the day doing father-daughter softball and take in a GSU baseball game and miss incredible AU fireworks.

Just perused the HABOTN and vicariously tasted the flavor of victory. Thanks to JGT and the Hotties for the details and enthusiasm. We were doing dinner/libations in a college bar. I saw the scores and checked here as soon as possible. Gotta go back to the libations.

    War Eagle Hotties!

  5. WDE everyone.

Great day to be an Auburn Tiger.

I'm hoping that bracketology sites just aren't updated yet, but from what I see, is the men's team still out? Seems unfair.

The broadcasters today were strongly stating AU's case. Almost thought I was watching a AU Network broadcast.

  7. Jay, what do you think about Jeff Lebo and his future at AU? Obviously, he is no longer on the hot-seat(if he ever really was.) Do you think he wants to move to the new arena and try to build a winning program here at Auburn, or does he try to use his new momentum to move on to greener pastures? Any idea?

  8. Not sure what to say about Lebo's future. I haven't talked with him much lately because my schedule has been crazy ...

  14. What does Lebo shaking student's hands in the quad say about his long term tenure(or lack thereof) at Auburn.

  17. When did Lebo shake students' hands in the Quad?

  18. in my opinion, if we run lebo off, we'll never get a quality coach.

  19. someone posted something to that effect a couple of days ago Matt...may have the location wrong.

  20. 14 times? that streak must end.

    ReplyDelete
  21. 14 times does not bode well...hopefully, today's hunger can carry over and not cause a hangover like the last big win before playing Vandy.

  22. this is the team that can end the streak. got seniors?

  23. scott, I was thinking more along the lines of Lebo leaving by choice for a more attractive(in his wiew) job. I have no information, not spreading rumors, I just have never gotten much of a feel for how he views his time at Auburn.

  24. Lebo's been at Auburn 5 years, and is just now getting his team on the bubble of the NCAA tournament. Who exactly do you think is going to come offering him a better job?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Depressed, I think you have posed a very interesting question. I heard a similar concern from an AU fan that I feel has a pretty good grasp on all things Auburn.

He is one of many that have been very frustrated with Lebo not being very visible among AU fans and not doing more to connect with the Montgomery Auburn club. He told me that Lebo was friendly and engaging when he finally addressed that group a few weeks back and I told him I was glad to hear that he was out shaking hands with students on Friday.

I mentioned that I hoped that he can keep this up and sustain this momentum into next season, and he replied that he sees him leaving for greener pastures if he does have some sustained success here.

In my mind he will have to really accomplish something for a top-notch job to be made available to him. And if it did happen, at least AU would be in a better position to find a good coach. But, for now, I just want to enjoy a better program and I hope great things are ahead with Coach Lebo.

  26. Sorry, wiew=view. Barkley, I have no idea who might be interested in Lebo. Just thinking out loud, I guess.

  28. I do have to enjoy being able to commit an entire Saturday to sports fandom. I can't remember that ever happening not during football season.
