Looking ahead

Hey everyone. Well, I'm somewhat tired after a semi-week in Little Rock, Ark. I'll be driving home throughout the day Monday and will be preparing for another great day of blogospheric magic on Tuesday.

That's PRO DAY for the football seniors (might there be a junior or two?) and the Capital City Classic, which pits Auburn vs. Alabama baseball at Riverwalk Stadium. That should be a fun day.

Thanks for everyone's interest and support throughout the women's tournament. I know it's a new area of (potential) interest to a lot of you. You've been awesome.

Before I leave, though, let me give you some reaction to the Vanderbilt loss:

NELL FORTNER
On Vanderbilt's defense: "They smothered Alli all day. She is our best three-point shooter. They smothered DeWanna all day. We didn't get any nice looks. They did a good job of taking that away."

On Christina Wirth, who dropped 20 points on Auburn Sunday: "She played inspired basketball today. She was better today than I've seen on film and when we played them in Nashville."

On regrouping after this one: "We haven't lost very much this year, but it is disappointing. When the prize is as big as the one was today, it's even more disappointing. You know what? We understand what lies ahead and we have to take it and learn from it and use it as we move forward."

WHITNEY BODDIE
On why Vanderbilt is so effective: "They're efficient with their offense. They pound you and pound you. You think you've got them stopped and then at the end of the shot clock, they make a three. They're mechanical."

MELANIE BALCOMB, Vanderbilt head coach
On Auburn: "We know we can't play 'em straight up. They've got great players. You have to do different things to get them out of their flow on offense, disrupt their offense and limit touches to their shooters. They're the fastest team up and down the court in transition that I've ever coached against."

On which defenses she deployed Sunday: "We worked on about six. We used some triangle (and two) against them as well as some man and some ... I don't want to give out all our secrets. We've got games to play."

tough loss last nite for our ladies. i'm no expert, but our defense looked totally confused most of the night leaving Vandy's 3-point shooters wide freakin' open. it has been a great season.

this women's team reminds me of the 98-99 men's team. we only lost 4 games that year, 2 to UK. hopefully our women can make it further than the Sweet 16, though.

Kudos to the AU Ladies for an outstanding season, tough loss to Vanderbilt but there are bigger fish to fry next week!

ESPN's "Bubble Watch" finally includes us as a "fringe" participant in the discussion. The major strikes -- best non-conference win was vs. No. 106 Virginia (which will likely finish the season with single-digit victories), then on to No. 204 George Washington.

I like our men's team. They know they're gonna have to work hard to win. Blue collar if you will.

While the blue-chippers may have the talent, they often are not willing to get down & dirty.

Late good morning hotties. Have a safe trip JGT. Some of this loss for the Ladies had to go to coaching. When a team is killing you with three's you have to go to a tight man to man. They just seem to be wondering around not presssing the ball. Great season and best wishes for the NCAA tour.

I am cooking my famous 'cheesy chicken' tonight for the Mrs. at her request.
I've got 3 large boneless, skinless chicken breast marinating in Ken's Italian dressing. Pan sear them for just a minute, then bake for 35 minutes @ 425. Then cover with 8 cups of colby jack and 4 cups of mozzarella and bake for another 10-15 or until cheese melts and the edges begin to brown.
Man, it it some good stuff!

D. Miller, you didn't choke on all that cheese, did you? ;-) Actually, it sounds DELICIOUS!!

I think being a life coach would be fun...seems pretty ridiculous, but good things can come out of it. plus, it's not regulated, and the concepts are vague enough to make you lawsuit proof.

luv,
No choking...it was very very good!! I fixed a little spaghetti as a side dish, and had a nice little dinner.

I am stuck in an all day QA 'workshop' today at work. Boy, that should be loads of fun since I couldn't sleep last night.

I'm not sure I want all the headaches of being a life coach ... the recruiting, second-guessing on the blogs, the rubber chicken circuit ... but I enjoy coaching so much ... working with people.

Maybe I should be a life assistant coach.

Morning Hotties - a couple of thoughts:
1 - as much as it may pain me to do so, I must agree with a Bama fan. In this particular case, FSJ is 100% correct on the Piano Men comments. It's worth every dollar.
2 - PF, no python's?
3 - JHAG, Jet and I have a friend that graduated AU in Building Science. Apparently, he made out so well after working awhile that he hasn't felt the need to work regularly in some time. He's a true gentleman of leisure. So there's that potentially.
4 - I definitely enjoyed reading the column by that PF (not the previously mentioned PF) blowhard today.
5 - I don't have a dog in the fight since I don't live there but those of you in the gump have the opportunity to vote today. Exercise that right.
6 - I hope that a good many of you will be going to the baseball game tonight. I wish I could but that's a pretty long commute for me.

The best thing out of PF's column? Football is only 181 days away!!!

I hate Bama.

I hate their guts and livers.

FSJ, I like.

Good Morning all you hotties, how's the weather? In the ATL it feels like a nice Junish type day.

Jhag ... There should be no other choice for you. Your soul is navy blue and burnt orange. You believe in Auburn and love it. And Auburn believes in and loves you. You could pick a dozen other colleges, but only one will embrace you and help you achieve you full hottitude. We're going win championships. We want you to lead us to them. We want to put your face in the end zone of the stadium. We want the next generation of Auburn fans to grow up wanting to be Jhag, pretending to be you in backyard ball games -- begging Mama and Daddy to buy your jersey. We want you.

8:26 AM
Blogger Miller said...

Does anyone know who the projected starters for tonight's game are?

9:10 AM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Pythons. Yes, they supposedly are out there. I know rattesnakes are.

The Iguanas up closer to Jhag are pretty fierce too. Huge non-native guys with no natural predators. Luckily, they haven't made it this way yet. Only a matter of time. Like fire ants.

Blogger AUBigCat said...

Jay will you be in Auburn for Pro Day? It's today if I'm not mistaken for those wondering.

9:16 AM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Paul Burnside for the good guys. David Head for the evil empire. Both looking for their first wins (Burnside doesn't have a decision yet, Head is 0-2). I think Burnside is the better pitcher of the two. That should be a good matchup.

McElroy is SEC Freshman of the Week.

Tigers still lead the SEC in Homers with 29, and are second in the Nation.

Beat Bama!

Some more cool statage, courtesy of AuburnTigers.com:

The two in-state rivals will be bringing some of the nation's top players into the home of the Montgomery Biscuits as Alabama's Kent Matthes' nine home runs is just two ahead of Auburn's Joseph Sanders' seven, with the two ranking one-two in the national home run stats. Auburn's Trent Mummey is also on the national home run list in a tie for seventh with six but it is the runs scored list that he tops, having already scored 26 times in 13 games.

gatiger....I read the PF column today also. Sounds like the issues may more serious than first thought. Either that or PF is exaggerating for effect....again.

This smacks of the same ol'arrogance that causes me to hate that program.

Where's Jet? We need some hatin'.

Hi hotties. Guess you noticed that even PF calling out Sabear. I re-iterate what I've been saying for months. Tide going down. Bookgate the tip of the iceberg.

AU Building Science.....one of the "Big 4" in the nation. A well-rounded, intense degree for a specific industry. I know grads that have successful careers ranging from home-builder to major construction executives to large real estate development to Washington lobbyist.

I even know a couple of guys that are leasurely coasting along with Daddy's company.

Does it surprise anyone that UAT's letter from NCAA was issued before their five years probation was up, and that this move puts then in repeat offender status, and that NCAA can add charges to this violation. NCAA smart.... UAT dumb...

Sponge....thanks...I couldn't remember which Hottie had been sprinkling us with tidbits of this issue. Props to you. Like most folks, I made note of it, but kept the salt grains handy.

So...is PF exaggerating?...or is there more?

Hoop.. Heading to work. I've been told there is more, much more. Major more. They may already have a Prelim letter, but who's to know since our media can't seem to get info out of them even after a year and a half of asking. Watch the papers and see if some of the columnists start writing a few more articles that are not so flattering.

Good morning hotties. Monica Smithwicks is correct. The UAT probe is about much more than books. The NCAA uses what ever they can to get started and then branches out like a fast growing cancer. Stay tuned for later developments. Cecil Hurt could release some info but won't.
