Bonner and Boddie now professional players

Hey everyone. Your favorite free throw-drawing forward, DeWanna Bonner, has been selected by the Phoenix Mercury in first round of the WNBA Draft.

She was the fifth overall pick. Bonner will play alongside former Auburn standout Le'Coe Willingham, who plays power forward for the Mercury.

Point guard Whitney Boddie was the 20th overall selection by the Sacramento Monarchs.

This is the first time Auburn has seen two players selected in the WNBA Draft.

DEWANNA BONNER SPEAKS

  • On the situation in general: "I'm excited to go there. It's warm and it's an awesome city. I'm just happy to experience Diana Taurasi. I think that their system is great and I like to run, so I'm just really excited about that. I'm just excited and ready to get to Phoenix."

  • On Phoenix's up-tempo style: "Oh yeah, I like the way they run. They've got a great point guard and shooting guard in Cappie (Pondexter) and Diana, and they're already a veteran team. I'm just ready to come in there and improve something."

This was too funny not to share from over at the TideSports.com Message Boards.

    The post was:
Cody is going to run a muck on the SEC

    One reply was:
he's going to run a muck? what the h*** is a muck?

    The reply to that was:
He means that Pugh is a dead man, if he survives to play in the Iron Bowl.
So is 280lb McKneel from UT.

    Another was:
I'm not really sure... but I'd imagine it looking like 36-0.

I have to admit I laughed out loud.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I was going to say that DeWanna could probably make more using her degree, then I saw what her degree is. She should probably stick with basketball a few years since the rookie salary is about double of that of the average salary of a recent graduate with a psychology degree.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Anonymous4:10 PM

AU fans who call the slimebaum show should be excommunicated. they are obviously the dumbest of the dumb. and the bammers spouting off about how guys who have never been in a college practice are going to dominate the sec next year are even dumber than the AU fans that call. i accidentally listened to about 5 minutes of his garbage on the way to and from the store this afternoon. at least when mccready & co. were on WNSP there was some journalistic integrity beamed over the airwaves. of course, integrity is what got mccready run out of town...

  87. So, I figured I may as well way in with some way too early unrealistic predictions for the 2009 football season.

    Sept. 5 Louisiana Tech W
    Sept. 12 Mississippi State W
    Sept. 19 West Virginia T
    Sept. 26 Ball State W
    Oct. 3 at Tennessee L
    Oct. 10 at Arkansas W
    Oct. 17 Kentucky W
    Oct. 24 at LSU L
    Oct. 31 Ole Miss L
    Nov. 7 Furman W
    Nov. 14 at Georgia T
    Nov. 28 Alabama L

Yea, the T is for tossup. My prediction is 7-5.

Sorry, Dig. I promise I'll bring you some Smithwick's when I come to B'ham in June.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Its coming.

I can see it from here.

Chelsea and Ballack will raise the trophy soon!!

    ReplyDelete
  98. I thought that last comment was pretty nice. What do I know, though?

    ReplyDelete
  99. What exactly is an aggregate victory? If I beat you 12-0, then you beat me 2-1, we don't have to play game three because the aggregate score is 13-2 in my favor? I doubt that's it, but soccer is strange.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Steve - a different spin:

Sept. 5 Louisiana Tech W - this will be a squeaker. It will likely be pretty ugly for both sides.

Sept. 12 Mississippi State W - After last year's chess match, this should not be a squeaker.

Sept. 19 West Virginia W - this will be a great game, but both teams are rebuilding offenses. AU's defense (if healthy) should win it.

Sept. 26 Ball State W - another squeaker. BState is playing good ball lately.

Oct. 3 at Tennessee L - this will break my heart, because I hate Lane Kiffen already. But Neyland is a tough place and TN is due..

Oct. 10 at Arkansas L - again with the heartbreak. Petrino is a good coach and Arkansy is tough to beat on the road.

Oct. 17 Kentucky W - KY is stoked about their Calipari. Football suffers. Auburn wins convincingly.
But what are we convinced of?

Oct. 24 at LSU L - my heart will be calloused at this point, but this tough loss will renew my sense of schadenfreude when it comes to big hurricanes hitting the Gulf.

Oct. 31 Ole Miss L - Rebels have the best QB in the league this year and should have a pretty good team overall - since they signed like 50 guys! Since it's at AU, this game could really go either way, I think. But I give OM the edge and thus AU gets an L.

Nov. 7 Furman W - As close to a good game as you'll see if you are a fan of the blowout.

Nov. 14 at Georgia L - I'm shaky on this one also. If we have a QB that has become "the man" by this point, we could win. If not, we don't.

Nov. 28 Alabama W - I will damage my vocal chords if it will help our defense win. WE. MUST. NOT. LOSE. THIS. GAME.

    7 - 5

    ReplyDelete
  101. TN and AR are wins. 9-3 with loses to LSU, UGA, and Ole Miss.

    ReplyDelete
  102. And also - my apologies for talking football in a women's basketball thread

$35,000 per year not to dunk?

    Hey. That sounds like me!

    ReplyDelete
  103. I come back and the place is empty.
    O well

    I will look in later

    ReplyDelete
  104. Sam, it takes creativity to lose with the amount of talent UT gets. I don't think anyone could be as creative as Fulmer.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Greg, I think Bama will be much better than Georgia. Georgia lost Knowshon and their QB. Bama will be tough, although it will be much closer this year.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Watching Tiger play 18 was my favorite part of the day....so far.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Steve..
So you're saying that we beat UGA by a wider margin than we beat UAT? I probably agree, but I'll get back with my final answer.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Anonymous7:49 PM

Steve...UGA will have a very good OL this year. They also have 3 very good RBs waiting to get on the field. The QB will be adequate.

    UGA-Bama...too early to predict.
