It's down to two

Gene Chizik says it's down to Kodi Burns and Neil Caudle at quarterback.

He cautioned that Barrett Trotter isn't off the map. Still, there are your two finalists.

Chizik on the quarterback situation: "What we decided, we’re getting to the point now where we’re coming down to the end of spring practice and you’ve got to try to decide where you’re going to put your reps. Neil and Kodi took a lot of the reps tonight, not that Barrett didn’t. It’s not over at all. Again, as you come down this path at the end you’ve just got to decide – it’s hard to evenly divide up reps between three people. That being said, we just decided to give a few more reps to Neil and Kodi. Really, that’s the extent of it."

Chizik on Montez Billings' situation: "Montez right now, we’re trying to clear up an academic situation. We’re still working on that as we go."

  1. Burns and Caudle was pretty much expected, right?

  2. relief on my part. thanks jgt

    ReplyDelete
  3. What? I really liked the Neil story

    ReplyDelete
  4. so you were just throwing us off a minute ago?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Expected? More or less.

I still think Chris Todd will get his shot.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Previous post you had BUrns and Trotter and I'm all into that and the new thread says Burns & Caudle. Not into that as much.

I guess most football savvy people figured this would be the top two.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Okay, now I am confused...is that on purpose?!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I don't understand the confusion.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I thought it would be Todd, if his arm is strong enough, until Trotter gets enough time in the playbook. If Todd is not ready, then we go with Burns (sigh) until Trotter is ready.
not sure why I like Trotter as I have never seen him play, and that is scary becasue I have seen burns play.

Jay - Type slower, you are going too fast for some on this board

    ReplyDelete
  12. your post at the end of the last blog ... Chizick: Burns and Trotter for now.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Saw you in the maze sunday night, chip chip, with your indian feathers on.

Burns vs Caudle , pretty much what i expected. I'm cautiously optimistic with the new guys but think they'll get the ball rollin.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Jay. you posted Burns and trotter on the previuos post.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ohhhhhh. Sorry.

    It's Burns and Caudle!

    (I'll go erase that now.)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Cleaned up that mess. Sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  17. If I had to pick between these two, and I alluded to this on the Gridiron Breakdown, I'd put my money on Caudle.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Okay, now I feel better...just thought I was getting senile

    ReplyDelete
  19. Was that a freudian slip or something?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I was projecting, I guess.

Now you're putting the money on the kid...I like your style.

  22. I'd love for NC to come out and assert himself at the qb spot.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I would too BinOBA, I think it would be a great story, I'm sure Jay would do great things with it for us, the HABOTN faithful.

  24. Things change, Seanzie!

Check out the quote about Billings. Whoa. Trooper Taylor this was a medical issue ...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Anonymous9:59 PM

Still waiting for Billings to step up.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Chizik is a wizard with the coach-speak, but not like the tongue in cheek style Tub sometimes had. Just go out and say Trotter is going to be a back-up role and you're focusing on the big two for now.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Montez is an ACADEMIC situation?? That's new, yes?

    ReplyDelete
  28. That's new, Mon. Although I have to say, we all knew it was something other than medical.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Caudle as the man tells me:

    1) Kodi has imploded.
    2) We are in deep s*#t.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anonymous10:04 PM

Kodi has imploded... Caudle is a very talented qb..

    ReplyDelete
  31. Anonymous10:05 PM

    oops meant kodi hasn't imploded

    ReplyDelete
  32. You have the inside track, Seanzie?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Phred, what's your beef with Neil?

    ReplyDelete
  34. I asked earlier but the new thread was up, what happened to Raven Gray? Is he still around or did he go to Miami?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I thought I read something from Jay about him being out there and looking fine but just not participating...that doesn't sound like "injured" to me. He then mentioned something about not being surprised if players or WRs fell by the wayside.

    ReplyDelete
  36. wtc, I've heard Raven Gray is no longer with the team.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I feel like I'm listening to crazy people right now

    ReplyDelete
  38. Raven Gray is long gone from Auburn. I don't know where he went.

    ReplyDelete
  39. not a winner at this level.

    ReplyDelete
  40. great kid though.

    ReplyDelete
  41. How many games has he lost as a QB?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Headed back to Montgomery.

I'm still aiming to get a video up. My daughter is with a babysitter, though, and it'll be 11 p.m. by the time I get there. Can't do video right now.

    See you night-owl types later.

    ReplyDelete
  43. careful on the road....I'll watch video in the am
    Goodnight Hotties1

    ReplyDelete
  44. How many has he won?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Safe travels Daddy Bear (sorry Harrison).

    ReplyDelete
  46. Jay, be safe on the road. I'll be enjoying your video tomorrow morning with my coffee.

    ReplyDelete
  47. We are in big doo doo

    ReplyDelete
  48. Thanks for the info. I was reading last years threads from spring time and his name kept coming up. Seems like there are several names that are no longer with this team that the previuos guys were hoping would pan out.
No wonder we are short on playmakers.

    ReplyDelete
  49. why is that jhag?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Touche, Phred. He could be good, but then again he could suck. I've said it before, but I don't think Kodi is the answer, I think either we give the other kids a shot or we look for more of the same this season.

At the end of the day I don't care who it is, as long as he's got the blue jersey on and is making plays.

    ReplyDelete
  51. If we have a harmonic convergence, we should be ok.

    ReplyDelete
  52. It's going to be a long season.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hey guys, it's ok, I've got a big jug of the Kool-Aid over here at my place. I can have some to ya by the end of the business day tomorrow, easy.

    ReplyDelete
  54. What we are going to need is, wide recievers who can intercept our QBs.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Meaning - when our QB throws it to the other team, we intercept it and get some yardage.

    ReplyDelete
  56. That works too, Phred.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Everyone sounds down, so how about this question: Would you feel this way is the previous coaches were still here? Many fans were saying recruiting had fallen off, anybody change their mind that thought Tubbs' recruiting was going well?

no bashing, just asking for your honest opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Debbie Downers! How can the top two QBs being announced bring about such a somber attitude?

    ReplyDelete
  59. wtc, I'm looking forward to a new season just because we can officially stop talking about the 2008 season. Before the first snap, everyone is a contender.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Man, we haven't even seen these guys play one snap yet and some of you folks are ready to tear down the stadium and put in a parking lot? I remain optimistic. Why the doom and gloom all of the sudden? Cheer up folks, enjoy yasselves! WAR EAGLE!

    ReplyDelete
  61. recruiting hadn't been very "exciting"

the old staff didn't have any energy.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Will, you must have a stash of Kool-Aid also, you and I can get together and open up a stand right before the A-Day game to help get these folks back in line.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think Frankin knew it, and know Gus knows it. We have, had no one that was ready to be an SEC qb. I hope and trust gus can get one of them ready by fall. In fact, I feel positive that he will. Just disturbed that one of them did not, at least by the info we have, step up and take control of the opening.

    ReplyDelete
  64. remember when we were freaking out about Jason Campbell??

I would give up all of your DISH subscriptions to have him back

    ReplyDelete
  65. Funny how things work, last year we had two guys that could start just about anywhere and that was a good problem to have, this year we've got no one, everybody sucks and those same two guys are still here.

    ReplyDelete
  66. i'm not down on the way we will end up next year. I still think 9 wins is very doable. I just wish the QB spot was a solid "this is our leader" choice and we can push ahead with our other issues.

I will be at Aday. Anyone having an unofficial HABOTN gathering?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Did we quit when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. wtc, I will be peddling KoolAid on the corner of Wire and Roosevelt along with Shesaid and Harrison.

    ReplyDelete
  69. "some of you folks are ready to tear down the stadium and put in a parking lot?"

    overstate much?

Just because they are OUR top two doesn't mean they are great. I don't care what you call me. One day I'm a kool aid drinker the next I'm Debbie Downer.

Just call me Penelope and nobody gets hurt.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Put me down for big ole moose cup size of it.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I had proposed the Eagle around noonish.

    ReplyDelete
  72. What up Pen?
I heard your name on the lunch bunch call in today. You and Mr. U have a thing goin' on.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Actually will be pushing it ot get there. Daughter has a graduation tea that ends at 11:30 in Montgomery and then we hit the road. Lucky to be there at the stadium by 12:30.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I'm a believer in Malzahn, but he really has his work cut out for him. Can they even play A-Day with eight offensive lineman on the roster? Honestly, ANY injury on the line would be a disaster.

    ReplyDelete
  75. You should pay closer attention, WTC.

    ReplyDelete
  76. There will be no disparaging, declarative statements tolerated about one Guz Malzahn.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I think they are not actually going to have two different teams like we think of a game. I believe the offense will just run plays against the defense and subs will be made. I doubt it looks much like a game, other than the hitting.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Mon, what did I miss? Signal was not strong today as I was out of town.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I don't know what you missed. I don't listen unless Jay G. is on the air.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Sorry. I will try to pay closer attention. I usually do not listen to those guys unless Jay is on also.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Kodi and Caudle were the most likely choices to be in the final two, although I am not sure it means much.

Once two-a-days get here, the situation will still be murky. It will be even more murky if Todd's are is ready.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Mon said call her Penelope.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Monica, I'm a Malzahn believer. His current players, I am a little less certain of. I hope most of these guys are better than they've shown thus far. When it comes to kool-aid, I need an IV.

    ReplyDelete
  84. oooooohhhhh. got it. Penelope - What kind of thing?

    ReplyDelete
  85. right there with ya, depressed

    ReplyDelete
  86. Agree 100%, depressed, were screwed this year...maybe next year =(

    ReplyDelete
  87. Debbie Downer is from SNL

Penelope the One Upper - also from SNL

    ReplyDelete
  88. I said it the other day and I think it is still valid. Kodi's issues were recognized by Borges and Franklin. Now Malzahn is seeing them too. My impression is that Kodi could win with athleticism in high school, but it is a different story in college. His fundamentals aren't there and athleticism won't get it at this level.

It is possible Kodi ends up being the starter, but if he is, look for a simplified offense that is smash mouth.

My guess is Malzahn wants a true QB, but Caudle and Trotter aren't that great either. A healthy Todd would be the starter. I just hope we don't get the same half healthy Todd that will be done 3 or 4 games into the season. In that case, I would prefer they just go with one of the other three and forget about Todd.

    ReplyDelete
  89. You are a great Penelope. I don't think Mon can ever be down for very long. Too many good things goin' on for her.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Night all. Got along day Wednesday.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Bin, i decided not to wear my big african hat. fyi, t&e are the guests on fallon's show tonight.

i, for one, have faith that gus will provide AU with a competent qb for 2009. i did not say good or great, but competent. that could not even be said last year. you can still win a lot of games with a competent qb if your D is good enough to keep you in the game until the 4th. as long as AU is having to throw 30+ times a game to come from behind by 20 points 7-5 or even 8-4 is realistic.

    ReplyDelete
  92. is NOT having to throw 30+ that is...

    ReplyDelete
  93. Waaa, Waaaa, Waaa. Call the waaambulance. In Gus, Lupe and Troop I trust.

Of course, I've been drinking Kool-Aid, but it's tasty!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Brother Jet, we all appreciate your words of wisdom. G'night all.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Keep OL healthy we have a chance to be a good team. Great? Nah. Good? Sure.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Good puts us WAY ahead of last year. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  97. Jet, is my 6-6 or 7-5 record too pessimistic? You think it will be better than that? WTC says he can see 9 wins and he knows his stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I am home now and working on a new video. I'll update accordingly.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I look at 6-7 as a baseline. We can do better if things fall the right way. Nine? It would take a lot to fall right. Eight? Maybe.

Montez's medical issue? Hit in head with a calculus book.
