Auburn baseball celebrates

Hey everyone. Your Auburn Tigers of baseball notoriety rallied for a 3-2 win against Alabama on Thursday night. Brian Fletcher, whom you see pictured above, drew a bases-loaded walk in the 10th inning to seal the deal.

Fellow Advertiser hack Tim Gayle had this to say about last night's drama:
AUBURN -- The seventh blown save of the season was likely the final blow to Alabama's Southeastern Conference title hopes.

Brian Fletcher drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th to force across the winning run as Auburn defeated the 10th-ranked Crimson Tide 3-2 at Plainsman Park on Thursday night.

The loss, coupled with LSU's victory over Mississippi State, Florida's win over Kentucky and Mississippi's win over Arkansas, dropped Alabama to fourth place in the standings, a game and a half behind the Tigers and a half-game behind the Gators and the Rebels with two games remaining.

  3. Early new thread!! I like it...

  4. Luv, in response to your question, I'm going to get my new clubs fitted and I'm probably going to get my swing fixed by a pro before I make another purchase. It is definitely on the to-do list.

  5. Morning Hotties - I fondly remember the days when I could play golf regularly and managed to get myself a respectable handicap. Those days are gone.

Seanzie, those are steps in the right direction! I really need to get my swing fixed too.

gatiger, I'm sure you're handicap isn't as bad as mine.

Beating UAT at anything - Great!

Beating UAT and ruining chances for postseason play (when there's no chance in hell Auburn is going anyway) - Priceless!

I own golf clubs. I play maybe 8-10 times a year. I don't keep score. I slice with an occasional crushing drive and I have a lot of fun on the course. I primarily play the Trojan Oaks in Troy. Why? 1)It's rather inexpensive 2)I don't get run off the course by want-to-be PGA tour golfer (no offense to anyone here).

Golf is fun. I plan to keep it that way.

  8. Luv - when I was a member of a club in the gump and played quite often, I got it down to a fairly respectable -11. Nowadays, I play less than half dozen times a year. It's just not the priority for me it once was, I don't know how to compact my schedule or what to eliminate from it to allow me to play more often. Since the cub is showing definite signs of athleticism, maybe he'll have an inclination for golf and we can get out and play.

  9. Norm, where did you find that shiner?

    ReplyDelete
  10. The real story isn't near as interesting as the many possible scenarios which could've brought about the shiner. Around the office, I'm going with that the wife gave me a beatdown which most of the coworkers can appreciate since they know my meek and mild-mannered wife.

In actuality it came about while playing with the son and a ball was involved.

    ReplyDelete
  11. The real stories aren't usually as good...but your 2 y.o. with that southpaw w/ that mean 2 seamer caught ya by surprise right? I mean that's uber interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  12. My clubs are too short for me. This causes bad things to happen during my swing. It also forces me into some bad habits in an effort to compensate. Golf clubs are expensive so I guess I'll just keep hacking away.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Is it Oct 10th yet?

    Auburn at Arkansas
    Alabama at Ole Miss
    Florida at LSU
    Georgia at Tennessee

    What a day.

  14. That was a great game last night. I am proud to say that I was in attendance. If you ever get a chance to catch a game at Plainsman Park, (you have today and tomorrow for this season) be sure to sit on the third base side behind the hecklers. They are well worth the price of admission.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I wonder how much it would cost to have my clubs adjusted/fitted to fit my swing? Would it really make that big of a difference?

Luv, Ballantrae kicked my butt last weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Anonymous8:07 AM

    But, it's a BEAUTIFUL course, isn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Also, can anyone tell me what it costs to have my clubs re-gripped?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anonymous8:08 AM

They're all hard for me, but, I don't think Ballantrae is as hard as Timberline.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Miller, I know the PGA Tour Superstores up here in Atlanta do a pretty good job and have competitive prices on golf club customization. It's not that far of a haul to the southside.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Anonymous8:09 AM

Hole #2 at Ballantrae is a killer!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anonymous8:12 AM

    D. Miller, check out either Golfsmith or Edwin Watts. Golfsmith is on 280 in Inverness and there are two Edwin Watts: one in Vestavia on Hwy 31 and one on 280.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Miller- club regripping is usually the cost of the grip plus $2 per club. Grips run from $3-$10 depending on what you want. Any golf store or proshop will usually do this.

    ReplyDelete
  23. d miller...
Re-grip your clubs yourself. It's way easy.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ballantrae is a beautiful course. #1 is an intimidating start - having to carry the tee shot 200+ over water and a front bunker to get to the fairway. I knew I was in for a long day starting off that way.
My driver was up for the challenge. Too bad the rest of my clubs weren't.

    Luv,
Is there a good course in the area that doesn't cost quite so much to play? I have a charity tourney coming up at the end of the month and need some practice before then.
Is there at least a good range around to go hit at?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I go to Florida for a week and Auburn wins a couple of baseball games...maybe I should move down there.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Pin Oaks...now that's a golf course.

  31. If anyone else is interested in getting up a team for the tournament, let me know and I will get you the details on how to sign up. They are also looking for sponsors. Tourney format is 4 man scramble and is being held at Chesley Oaks Golf Course in Fairview, AL (just outside of Cullman).

The tournament, the Kris Banister Memorial, is named in honor of my cousin who died from cancer a few years ago. Proceeds of the charity event go to benefit the Alabama Baptist Children's Home in Decatur. This is a wonderful charity that I have seen first hand have a positive impact on a child's life and their family.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Sean - we have similar plans for the weekend. It'll be just the Golden Retriever and I in the house for the weekend while the wife goes to the beach with the girls and the son spends the weekend at the grandparents. So, what crazy things are on tap for me you ask? Tonight - catch up on DVR shows which don't interest the missus. Tommorrow - run 16 miles in the morning, pig out, work in the yard on various projects, watch more tv at night (I now have a crapload of new HD channels). Sunday - teach the kids Sunday School class, lunch, go to a movie.

    It'll be CRAZY man.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Me and the fam will be spending this weekend on beautiful Lewis Smith Lake. Daddy will be attempting to propel daughters' innertube airborne while being screamed at to slow down.

    Go Tigers! Hate bama!

    D. Miller, Hole #2 is the one with the water; the one that doglegs left. Timberline has a nice range with a nice chipping area. Montevallo is pretty cheap. It's not very pretty, but it's cheap. There's also Oak Mountain, but you have to pay $3 to get into the park. Highland Park, which is downtown, is about $49 on the weekends.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Highland Park is the devil. Short course with shrubbery and rough that literally will eat your golf balls should they venture too close.

  65. Bonnie Crest is still open, as far as I can tell. I don't head that way anymore.

Emerald Mountain was just sold at auction. I hear it is in rough shape. I hate that ... it a nice design ... just needs the care a good course deserves.

Special agents with the Alabama Department of Revenue raided Crown Motors locations in Gadsden, Fort Payne and Anniston this morning as well as the accounting firm of Kirkland and Co., according to the department.
The agents had court-issued search warrants and were "getting records," according to Eddie Crumbley, director of investigations for the department.
Crumbley said the agents were assisted by agents with the FBI and local law enforcement agencies.
Agents prevented people from entering or leaving the locations temporarily until all the information they wanted was collected, Crumbley said.
Crumbley declined further comment, saying it would not be appropriate at this time.
Agents still were at Crown Motors in Gadsden Thursday afternoon.
A spokeswoman for the Alabama Department of Revenue said the department collects almost 50 different state taxes including sales tax, business privilege taxes, gasoline taxes and corporate and personal income taxes.
Phone calls to Crown in Gadsden and Kirkland were not answered this morning.

The shop owner convinced me to regrip with a 1/2" extension and change the upright angle (lie) of the club. I spent around $100 and salvaged a set of Ping eye2 square groove clubs. The refitted clubs each hit 5 yds further.

  121. I carry the PGA allowed limit of clubs in my bag. I'd highly recommend using every club in your bag at least once until you settle upon your own personal favorite to be used for this purpose. It's all in course management when you're on the course so in this matter it may be that a different club serves your purposes better depending on the specific UAT fan/target. i.e., if the target in question happens to be the stereotypical fat redneck type, you may find that whatever brand of large driver you use to be the best club here. However, if your target happens to be a set of blond twins then I'd suggest using something more delicate like your groove brush or towel. And with those targets in mind, you should repeat the process often.

    ReplyDelete
  141. The "411" being that you answered my question.

    ReplyDelete
  142. miller- i also they they are fugly

    ReplyDelete
  143. How do these recently enacted laws impact the Wine Cooler industry favored by Michael?

    ReplyDelete
  144. Maybe its the houndstooth hat they wear, but I don't think either of them is pretty in the face.
Decent little bodies... Not much else.

    ReplyDelete
  145. You would think if he signed the wine bill then he would sign the beer bill as well.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Yeah, but the difference is what is wrong with the beer we got? It drank good.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I guess if the Hops are Freed, then it won't require as many beers to convince yourself that it's OK to think those Skanks are anything other than what they are.

    I hate UAT.

    ReplyDelete
  148. it dranks pretty good. if you like ice cold pee

    ReplyDelete
  149. I guess you wouldn't be impressed to read that I'm currently enjoying a Miller Lite on my leather chair at home while on a con-call.

    ReplyDelete
  150. yes. i would rather be doing that. i'd rather drink miller lite than no beer at all.

  151. I heard the SPUAT twins have E.Zachary syndrome. Symptoms include a face that looks E Zachary like my @$$.

    ReplyDelete
  152. How expensive will this new fangled beer be? I don't mind maxing out at about 9 bucks or so for Newcastle and the like, but does the super alcohol beer cost much more than that?

    ReplyDelete
  153. I heard one of the UAT twins went to the grocery store late one night and bought one gossip magazine, one pint of Blue Bell ice cream, and one bottle of red wine. The young man ringing up her groceries commented that she must be single. She then asked, "Could you tell that by the itmes I purchased?" He responded, "No, I could tell because you are effing ugly."

    ReplyDelete
  154. michael- some of it can get well up around 20 bucks for a 6-pack, but there are plenty you can get for the same price as Newcastle or Sam Adams

    ReplyDelete
  155. one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    56

    ReplyDelete
  156. Will- didn't you buy those exact items for our trip to the lake this weekend??

  167. A question for Jay G ...

Are the HABOTN FAQs available in compiled version other than in the archives?

    ReplyDelete
  168. The golfing rules should really be changed for the Barkley situation. It shouldn't cost you are stroke if you ping a Bama fan.

    ReplyDelete
  169. I feel kinda bad for liking that video so much..the guy is probably an aight dude but still..gotta love it!!

In response to your link of the AU cheerleader I giveth you the bammer cheerleader:

    ReplyDelete
  171. Steve ...

You are absolutely correct. The shot is known as a "Bamagan." You can replay from the original spot, or any spot of your choosing without penalty.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Xaff, arrgghh...well, you warned me! Now I've gotta go back and look at the AU one again so I don't start my weekend off on the wrong foot. Take care of yourself over there!

    ReplyDelete
  173. Jet, "any spot of your choosing" - excellent! Perhaps this will encourage all AU golfers to strive for Bamagans. There is the risk of missing and having your ball end up out of bounds, etc., but the double reward would be so worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Sorry, just looked up the "Bamagan" rule. Here it is.

If a legally played shot strikes a UAT fan, player, coach, employee, or any one person or object with the taint of the Infidels, you have the following options:

    a. Play the ball as it lies, preferably between the eyes of the Infidel; or

    b. Any one of the following:

    1. The original spot; or
    2. The 150-yard marker; or
    3. Adjacent to the nearest cart girl; or
    4. Any spot of your choosing.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Okay, now I will start my weekend with a grin on my face! I love knowing the official Bamagan rule. Perhaps I'll hand out flyers to the players at The Regions this weekend so they can refamiliarize themselves before starting their rounds.

ESPN reports that JC Watts is being paid over $600k to lobby congress on behalf of the BCS.

I guess the BCS must be all about $$$ and not the sportsmanship of playng for a championship????

Those bowls are supposed to be non profit/charity type organizations. It's one of the arguments for keeping the bowls. Where did the $$$ originate???

    ReplyDelete
  180. can you get "arrogant bastard ale" in bama? it's a pretty good beer.

  185. I asked someone today who has a good feel for the Gov's attitude, and they said it was close whether the Free the Hops legislation would be signed or vetoed.

    So it ain't over yet.

    ReplyDelete
  186. I'm glad the only thing I missed today was golf talk.

  187. Omni - after looking through the email again and seeing the only cheerleading related picture, I'm no longer inclined to be flattered.

    ReplyDelete
  188. I'm not sure what you're talking about. I said I wanted to see you in a cheer leader uni because one of your posts yesterday read like a chant.
