Auburn baseball still streaking

Hey everyone. In an continuation of Friday's delayed game, Auburn beat Alabama 3-1 early this afternoon. That is the Tigers' second win of the series and ended the Crimson Tide's conference championship hopes.

The rivals play the series' final game today as well. That game starts at 3 p.m.

  1. I am thinking about coming from MGM for the 3pm game.

Are tickets available? I went on-line this morning, and there wasn't an option to buy them.

  2. Can we take up a collection to please get Coach Chiz into a new style of shirt. That bowling / untucked / fly collar thing does not fit him. Lets get him in something that makes him look a little tougher!....and fits!

  3. Also, JayG, what did you think of the Lost season finale?

Personally, I think Jack and Sawyer are nuts for wanting Kate over Julilet. Juliet is da bomb.

    ReplyDelete
  4. My guess is that the game is sold out.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Juliet is very sexy. I'm with you there.

    LOST finale in general: Underwhelming.

  6. just keep beatin bama! in unrelated news, arizona's attorney general is suing gannett for closing down the "tucson citizen" newspaper. makes a pretty good case, too. the paper had a buyer until gannett proved unwilling to relinquish their rights to profit sharing with the az daily star--that was the only thing that kept the citizen profitable.

  7. Eat it bammers.

    That is all.

  10. Greg wants one of these. He says the concept is solid and I'm thinking we'll end up having one once we move to Alabama.

  12. Holy Guacamole, that is a shock. Beating Bama!!! It just don't get much better than that.

  13. Down 3-0, top 2nd.

Decent crowd, but plenty of seats available

    ReplyDelete
  14. the suit, filed by a democratic atty genl, contends that closing the "citizen" will leave only one editorial voice in tucson (that of the "liberal" AZ daily star) which amounts to an antitrust violation as gannett is still profiting off of the situation. mildly interesting, as one has a liberal democrat working to keep a conservative paper operating.

  15. anybody picking "mine that bird" in the preakness?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Auburn down 4-0 in the top of the 3rd. I'm picking Pioneerof the Nile, Papa Clem, Rachel Alexandra, and Mine that Bird for the superfecta.

    ReplyDelete
  17. i'm seeing lots of press for rachel alexandra. mine that bird seems a sentimental favorite.

  20. Coach Chiz's shirt is fine.

Anytime AU can beat bammer its a good day and it makes it even sweeter if it costs them something.

I hope AU wore the good looking Dodger-esque uni's on.

Also, he had a mild stroke that day and was in the hospital when the race was run.

And of course, he went to the casino a week later and I think he gave some or most of it back.

  25. 8-3 in the bottom of the 5th now..3 solo jacks. Unfortunately it's only a 7 inning game, so it might be too little too late.

  27. You're a stud, Norm. That's all there is to it.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yes, Mon I am. It's both a gift and a curse at the same time. It can be a difficult balancing act.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Norm-I've been watching your posts. You are way ahead of schedule aren't you? 4.5 months out and you are doing 16? Did you finish in 2:45?

Thinking of going to NYC in November to run that one again. Was shooting for Charlotte but my partners want to go back to NYC.

    ReplyDelete
  30. man, you guys got some slow cars!

    ReplyDelete
  31. WTC - I've done 16 before, but it was about 6 months ago. That didn't really help much today other than I could remind myself I knew I could do it. I wasn't really feeling it today so I ran a slower pace with my running partner. I think we finished around 2:55.

I need to check the calendar again and see if I can find one this fall my buddy and I can do together, I'd likely be doing Charlotte solo (not counting the x thousand strangers). If I do that, I may be able to get 2 fulls in this fall.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You wear it well, Norm.

    Amen Scott! ha

Did either of you do Boston? My niece and sister-in-law did this year.

    ReplyDelete
  33. That was funny Arizona.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Mon - I haven't done a full Marathon yet. My running buddy has done a few, is from Boston and ran it for the first time a couple of weeks ago.

    ReplyDelete
  35. ElTurbo and I did Boston last summer. We went to two Red Sox games, toured the JFK library, went to Quincy Market, ate at some good restaurants, knocked around.

Got Red Sox T-shirts ... and wondered why anyone in the right mind would want to run 26.2 miles when a car would get them where they're going a heck of a lot faster.

Everyone just left the Hangar ... we had a 4 p.m. deal ... he wanted Jim 'n' Nicks (which was better than I remembered), their tater salad and slaw, cheese biscuits, my BBQ beans, chocolate cake and ice cream.

Good time had by all. Baccalaureate tomorrow.

My great nephew (Monica, you've seen the photos) was there, so it was a big hit.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Monday night is graduation for ElTurbo, as well as WTC's daughter.

    ReplyDelete
  43. G'night Hotties. I'm sleepy tired and heading upstairs for an appointment with the Tempurpedic.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Jet - Why wasn't I invited?

I wish Norm had waited long enough to tell me how much he loves his Tempurpedic.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Unlike Jet, we had no blow out at the hanger. My two laid out bythe pool and watched me do yard work from 9:30 until 4:00. They even made a few suggestions about how I was doing a few things wrong or where I missed a spot on trimming the shrubs. They are so helpful that way. I really like it when the instructions come from the pool area.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Mon-I will invite you to the graduation but I know it is a little far to travel for the event.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Mon ...

I had no control over the invite list ... My role was like that of WTC ... day laborer subject to intense supervision.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Jet-looks like Sunday is a full day for us. Monday shaping up to only allow about 1/2 half day of work and then get ready to stand in line for door opening. I am already not interested in saving seats (I hate when others do it also) for 8 others.
Wnna sell a ticket or two?

    ReplyDelete
  49. yeah yeah yeah Jet you wuss out at the most convenient times...

WTC thank you very much. If I still had the HABOTN jet I'd be there!

I love the pool side supervisors. That's rich!

    ReplyDelete
  50. WTC ...

Yeah, I'm taking Monday afternoon off. Looks like my 6 reserved seats are obligated -- me, Mrs., the in-laws, ElTurbo's girlfriend's mom, and probably my sister.

    Monica ...

Mrs. Jet took Bob Barker's advice years ago and had me neutered. You knew that already.

    Keep it real, Hoopie.

Any football relation to this car dealer busy in Gadsden?

    ReplyDelete
  62. There are rumors, sensi. But I don't think the action being taken against the car dealer is in any way linked to those rumors. Unless there's some hidden story that I don't know about.

As far as my understanding goes, most of the Auburn fans I know are avoiding any discussion about it.

Many bammers are making fake profiles as Auburn fans and starting rumors, sometimes downright laughable, just to make it a credibility issue.

Besides.. it's not like NCAA can do anything about it. bammer boosters and lawyers have so many lawsuits against NCAA that they will probably never touch a high profile school again.

  66. OK Someone PLEASE give me the skinny on this story? This is the first I heard of it..

Gadsden Area Car Dealership Raided by Feds, State Agents
Crown Motors, in Gadsden and Anniston, which sells Dodge, Chrysler and Kia vehicles, has been shut down temporarily after a morning raid by Federal and state agents who hauled away financial documents and left behind yellow crime scene tape. One additional dealership in Ft. Payne also was raided.
While the reason for the raid is unknown at this time, it can be mentioned that this is the same dealership that is rumored to have improperly provided vehicles at little or no cost to players of a certain school, all funneled through a certain booster club. Whether or not today's investigation is linked to this rumor is pure speculation. You'll have to draw your own conclusions in time.
    Film at eleven...

Agents raid Crown Motors location, accounting firm
Special agents with the Alabama Department of Revenue blocked the entrances and exits and raided Crown Motors in Gadsden on Thursday May 14, 2009.

Special agents with the Alabama Department of Revenue raided Crown Motors locations in Gadsden, Fort Payne and Anniston this morning as well as the accounting firm of Kirkland and Co., according to the department.
The agents had court-issued search warrants and were "getting records," according to Eddie Crumbley, director of investigations for the department.
Crumbley said the agents were assisted by agents with the FBI and local law enforcement agencies.
Agents prevented people from entering or leaving the locations temporarily until all the information they wanted was collected, Crumbley said.
Crumbley declined further comment, saying it would not be appropriate at this time.
Agents still were at Crown Motors in Gadsden Thursday afternoon.
A spokeswoman for the Alabama Department of Revenue said the department collects almost 50 different state taxes including sales tax, business privilege taxes, gasoline taxes and corporate and personal income taxes.
Phone calls to Crown in Gadsden and Kirkland were not answered this morning.

  67. DL ...

I think it is a coincidence. It strikes me as a business with a major league tax problem. That doesn't mean it has or hasn't been involved in NCAA hanky panky.

Bottom line, I can't imagine the Alabama Department of Revenue being involved -- and certainly not taking the lead -- on an investigation related to crimes that are concurrent with potential NCAA violations. I don't see the IRS being involved in such either. The politics of that are waaaaay too intense.

The car dealer situation certainly has it's coincidences with the rumors that have circulated. I'm not sure how the FBI/ABI issues could be related to possible NCAA concerns.

Back to AU: Do some of the new players report for summer school and workouts this week?

Sensi....I apologize for the Al.com moment.

    ReplyDelete
  72. aight...enough is enough..is AU potentially involved with some car dealership rumors?..I realize ya'll don't wanna attribute to rumors but I haven't seen anything in this regard..would somebody tell me what the heck a car dealership getting in trouble has to do with AU? I mean REALLY?!!

Yes ... at the risk of the wrath of Monica for sharing ... one of the Facebook updates I noticed a few minutes ago indicated that they are coming this week.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Anonymous9:11 PM

Most of the car rumors I've heard are Bammers responding to their own car rumors.

    ReplyDelete
  75. WarTigah ...

A UAT friendly auto dealer, who according to purely speculative gossip has made some good deals to young athletic men on autos, was raided by the Alabama Department and Revenue and the IRS. Some have tried to add two and two to draw some linkage to NCAA issues in Gadsden.

UAT may very well have problems in Gadsden, and this dealer may be a part of it, but the politics clearly say that a state agency is going to do anything intentional to help crush the UAT football program.

    ReplyDelete
  76. * state agency is NOT going to help bring down NCAA.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Hiring the chiznik (5-19) was the equivalent of renting out the neighborhood Piggly Wiggly security guard to take on the Chinese army. Thus, making up internet rumors about car dealers in hopes of an NCAA investigation is what the entire Auburn fanbase has stooped to. No validity. PLOI in January, no, February, no, March, no, April etc, etc, etc, etc. We're still waiting. You guys should have kept Tubs! At least then you could come up better than message board rumors, which never come to fruition.

    ReplyDelete
  78. sensi- I apologize in advance for my ignorance but...this car dealership business has to do with the cousin humpers and not AU then right? if that's the case then...THEY DID IT!!

    Reality66,

Please take a note from famed HABOTN Bammer FSJ and act like a normal human being.

I'm as tired of the 5-19 business as you all are of Fran and Mike Dubose talk.

And one other thing while I'm on this, winning one game out of seven in a rivalry, no matter by how many points, does not domination equal.

Neither does two #1 recruiting classes as we all know how inexact that can be and we all know the rankings come from a website particularly "friendly" to UAT.

Welcome to the HABOTN and...you know what, never mind.

WAR EAGLE and go pump your self and that midget coach some more with the ignorant arrogance you all so richly display. I'll never turn to the dark side for I know the truth and it set me free and pissed me off. I HATE BAMMER and hope you all lose everything. Since you all are so selective in your memory, from now on, when UAT actually wins a game, I'm going to act like and say you lost.

    I hate BAMMER!

  86. interesting how as soon as any mention of the gadsden stuff appears on THE HABOTN, some unknown cousin humper magically appears to spew the rec company line. we are being monitored!!!!!!
they will try to get JGT fired if we don't shut up by threatening to pull big ad dollars from his newspaper--at least that is how they got rid of neal mccready here in mobile when he spoke ill of bammer.

message board members on pay sites of many schools have furiously been pumping rumors about rec and bammer involvement in numerous scenarios involving cars, cash and jobs for UAT recruits and family members in alabama and elsewhere. michigan & michigan state folks both tend to conclude shady practices follow $aban wherever he goes. AU premium boards are rife with speculation over what the fed raid means. those are being heavily rec trolled and lurked as well.

there are rumors of a "one voice" message put out to the rec generals concerning possible rec violations unrelated to the textbook problem and our troll here is likely part of that movement.

my opinion: tax evasion, cooked books in gadsden. not related to bama. i don't see the feds getting involved in ncaa matters no matter how bad--unless the feds didn't get their $$$$ for whatever went down.

speculation elsewhere: the cars in question supposedly come from a Bham dealer with REC ties and were shipped all over the country before delivery to make the titles hard to trace. not from the dealer raided in gadsden. if the dealer raided was involved in any bammer ncaa violations, a few things could have happened. 1. ncaa uncovers suspicious cars, cash payments, under-the-table jobs for prominent high school athletes they believe to be unlawful, they may be legally obligated to report such activity to law enforcement or tax authorites = raid. 2. they are just crooks and it has nothing to do with likely bammer cheating.

according to more rumor, news organizations such as SI, TSN and Yahoo! Sports are actively working the gadsden recruiting violation story prompting the REC "one message". in-state media are reportedly staying away from the story for fear of their livelihood. JGT may be able to shed some light on that part. the delay of textbook sanctions and ncaa notification etc. is speculated to be due to possible other ongoing ncaa investigations into bammer recruiting that will be added onto any textbook case sanctions. there is also cloudiness surrounding the "repeat offender" status.

the UT guy in memphis bama tried to set up as revenge for him turning in info the ncaa in the means case is daring any of the rec bammers he is accusing of wrongdoing to sue him so he can get people under oath during discovery depositions.

in all, it at least makes for some entertaining reading whether true or not. i just think there are too many accusations coming bammer's way from too many different places far and wide and too much defense being played on the rec's part to there not be some shred of truth in there somewhere.

i think it is more fun when AU beats them at their best so they can't whine too much about why they didn't win. but if this stuff turns out to be true, it will be fun to see mike slive squirm and watch the ncaa put an axe in their skull if they have hutzpah.

No offense, but I can tell you now. Auburn isn't getting a bid to the tournament. And shouldn't.

It would be one thing if we've been a regular NCAA tournament participant, and just had one rough SEC season, and the committee recognizes that (even though they're probably not supposed to).

But that's not the case. We haven't even been to the SEC tournament in a while.

I know the RPI number. That's nice. The RPI is used to more to disqualify teams -- push them out of the discussion. It's not used to reach outside the circle -- WAAAAY outside the circle -- to qualify them for the NCAA tournament.

Traffic leaving the Gump on the way to Auburn. If I leave before 6 a.m. I can miss most of it. However, I usually leave between 6:15-6:30. Therefore, I always see traffic.

  113. the morning show here in Knoxville sucks. i wouldn't recommend it.

    thanks Eddie.

I've heard that show, ScottieB. You are correct, sir.

The 680 show is pretty good. Nice to hear other perspectives.

    ReplyDelete
  115. "Other perspectives"??? I don't even know what that means.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Anonymous9:05 AM

Local shows that aren't all about Auburn and Alabama, Norm.

Ahh, uncle Colin is on it today. Should be fun.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I'm tired of 680 the fan in Atlanta. I listen to podcasts to and from work these days on my Ipod. I love that and recommend giving it a try.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Truthfully, I really did know what you meant. I've listened to 680 a handful of times since moving over this way but just haven't gotten into it. So I'll just listen to my AU / cousin-humper focused shows when I listen to anything other than the iPod or XM Online. For other schools' news I'll rely on The Worldwide Leader or such.

    Eddie,

What podcasts do you listen to?

    ReplyDelete
  135. ฉันเป็นผู้เกลียดชัง Bama !!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  136. I'm big into Disney podcasts, but for any interest you have, you can find a relatively good podcast. I'm addicted to them, especially this time of the year when sports kinda take a backseat for me.

By the way, "I hate bama!!!" is a universal language.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Eddie singlehandedly will get this thread to 200 posts.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Nicely done Eddie. Now I can tell anyone in the world what I think of Bama.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Tengo indiferencia para Bama

    ReplyDelete
  140. J'ai l'indifférence de Bama

    ReplyDelete
  141. and my personal favorite:

    Έχω αδιαφορία για BAMA

    ReplyDelete
  142. Sean- I've single handedly taken a thread to 1000 before after it died around 700. 200 would be nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  143. We are the world! We are the children!

    ReplyDelete
  144. Nice. I like that we are taking HABOTN worldwide now.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Well I think a 3 day old thread should easily get to 200...it's only right.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Speaking of old news. Can someone link me the bowling shirt that Chiz was wearing the other day?

    ReplyDelete
  147. The boys are thirsty in 'tlanna,
    and this thread's in Texarkana.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Eddie..
Is this what you're looking for?

  149. Anonymous9:46 AM

Jon Gruden on Monday Night Football? How about that?

    ReplyDelete
  150. Please tell me he's replacing Kornheiser and not Jaws.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Gruden could be awesome ... particularly if during the third quarter of a dull game, he pulls out an icepick and stabs Al Michaels.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Thanks for the link. It's not the worst shirt that I have ever seen, but probably not "golfer" attire, but that is perfectly fine by me.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Anonymous9:53 AM

    Korn is out, thank heavens.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Jet- You have not watched NFL football in awhile I see. Al Michaels is no longer MNF and MNF is no longer on ABC. Shocking changes I know.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Oh, that's right ... Al is Sunday night.

Just move Kornheiser out of the booth, but don't stab him. He's good on PTI. I think Jaws is Jawsome.

Maybe Chucky could sneak on the ESPN hoops set and stab Vitale. Now, that would be good.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Other than Jaws, the MNF crew stinks and Jaws is still average in my opinion. I cannot stand Mike Tricco at all. It may just be me, but he seems out of place.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Tirico tries too hard. Needs to dial it back. He remembers his Rudi Johnson call, and this he's supposed to do it on every 5 yard gain.

    ReplyDelete
  158. I haven't watched MNF on a regular basis since Don Meredith was in the booth. Pro football doesn't hold my interest like it did back in the day.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Fun podcasts — PTI and Around the Horn, ESPN's College Football (every week during the season and every other week off season)

Informational podcasts — The Wall Street Journal, Havard's Business Ideas, The Economist

My husband listens to Leo Laport and the whole tech thing.

Name a subject, there are at least 25 podcasts.

AUMom, in the try to reach 200

    ReplyDelete
  160. Fantasy Football brought me to enjoy NFL football again. Take it away, and I probably don't watch as much I do.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Wait to go, Mom!

    Mom loves us most!

    ReplyDelete
  162. My fantasies involve neither football nor baseball, so I don't participate in such activities.

    ReplyDelete
  163. OK, last post wasn't entirely true. But I don't own fantasy football or baseball teams.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I can't stay awake long enough to watch MNF past the first quarter. That being the case, I just don't watch it.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Fantasy Football is fun if you have money in the game. We play for a decent purse at the end of the year, so it's fun to make those last minute changes and pull for individual players during a game versus teams. If I had to root for one team, I would pull for the Falcons, but I enjoy watching most.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Momma knows exactly where I'll be on Monday evenings in the fall. I watch religiously.

    ReplyDelete
  167. MNH - now that's something I'll watch. 7:30 on Versus GO PENS!!!

    ReplyDelete
  168. I know we discussed this to some extent last week. But, as it is currently "topical" to me since I'm listening to it now, Willie Nelson and his Stardust album are excellent. In particular "All of Me" since that's what has my feet tapping at the moment.

    200, here we come.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Eddie...
I have played in the same league for almost a decade. It's fun when you know the guys. Some have numerous teams, but I can only afford one.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Sunny Side of the Street never fails to put a little pep in my step.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Stardust is a wonderful album. There is not a bad track on it. I can almost forget what Willie Nelson looks like when I listen to it.

After reading the above, I realized I am showing my age. Album, track... sheesh.

    What are they called now?

    ReplyDelete
  172. That's a good one too. Now, it's "The Possum" and his great "The Grand Tour". I do love me some old country sangin'.

    ReplyDelete
  173. How about Sunday Morning Coming Down by Johnny Cash?

Well I woke up Sunday morning,
With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt.
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad,
So I had one more for dessert.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Don't worry Mom. When I first purchased Stardust, it was the album version. If only I had a working turntable...

Or, perhaps, if only I weren't so "fond" of my money then I'd have said turntable.

    ReplyDelete
  175. The Highwaymen with Waylon, Willie, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson was pretty okay too.

    ReplyDelete
  176. ehyou- Agreed. I play in only one league and have been doing so for 6 years now. It makes things fun instead of playing against a bunch of strangers.

    ReplyDelete
  177. If I am at home, I will watch the better parts of 8 games from Thursday night through MNF.

    ESPN -- Thursday
    High school game -- Friday
    Probably four games on Saturday
    Three on Sunday
    Monday night football.

    I love watching football.

Of course, my Saturday viewing is tied to whether I am in Auburn or somewhere with the kids' band, or at home. If I am with the band, I've been known to slip a way, rent a motel room and watch games until it was absolutely necessary to watch my kids perform.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Norm, I know I had it on vinyl before getting it on CD. I was so sure that albums would never come back I GAVE my albums away, including Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Who knew that turntables would ever be manufactured again?

    ReplyDelete
  179. I get in trouble for how much football I watch during the season. With TiVo I may watch 6 games a Saturday.

    ReplyDelete
  180. That's not counting my replays I do later in the week to pick out things I may have missed.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Marching band (especially competitions) is boot camp for the entire family.

It was worth every minute of it when my children were in high school (and the one year AUSon marched for Auburn) but I can't say I miss the-every-Saturday-marching routine now.

    ReplyDelete
  182. I cannot watch games tivo'd. Just can't do it. I have to watch them live and preferrably at the game. This year should be some good viewing. I have tickets to all home games and UT and Georgia, so alot of football to go to. That is where Satelite radio comes in and is great. Love listening to the games on the way or on the way home from the Auburn game.

    ReplyDelete
  183. My mother was here for 5 days, no sports for me.

I just found out my two NBA teams lost — the Celtics and whoever is playing against Kobe Bryant and Phil Jackson.

    ReplyDelete
  184. I stll have every last one of my albums which I've carted around with me over many years refusing to let go. One day, I'll quit talking about it and buy a USB turntable, connect it to the computer & start loading some of the better ones (assuming they'll even play) for eventual listening on the iPod.

    ReplyDelete
  185. NFL doesn't hold the allure for me that NCAA does. There's no particular reason that's just the way it is. Of course I'll watch the Thursday ESPN (and occassional Friday) games and if I were left alone on Saturday I'd watch from when Gameday first comes on until Hawaii finishes playing.

    ReplyDelete
  186. We better hurry, I sense JGT typing furiously.

    ReplyDelete
  187. THere is another show that I cannot stand anymore. I hate College Gameday. I hate the circus it has become and the agenda it pushes. I boycott it at all costs.

    ReplyDelete
  188. Anonymous10:24 AM

Your favorite way to cook a steak?

Time to share some recipes before the long weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  189. JGT is more laid back about the 200 post count these days.
