Basic update

Hey everyone. I've been working on AHSAA softball and baseball stuff the past two days. I haven't been able to HABOTNize as much as I'd like. It sucks.

My goal is to catch Anthony Gulley, the Auburn wideout signee, after Brantley's game at Riverwalk Stadium today. The Bulldogs are playing for the 1A state championship and Gulley is one of the team's star players.

I'd like to see how things are going with him -- particularly in regard to academics.

Talk with you more in a bit.

UPDATE @ 3 p.m.:
Brantley just won Game Two and clinched the 1A state championship in the process. Gulley scored the tying run during the Bulldogs' clinching rally during the eighth inning.

  3. It sures sounds like Tyrick Rollison is going to get every opportunity to be the starter based on what Chizik said last night in Mobile at the Auburn Club meeting. This fall could be very interesting if that happens. I personally am for it, provided he is very close to what we have out there being that is probably not going to be a banner year for Auburn Football. I rather him learn this year and be ready next year. What's your thoughts?

  6. I'm hopin Tyrik gets some snaps and can breathe some life into this quarterback situation.

  7. Tyrik says on FB ... "I'mma put Auburn on the map."

Hopefully, it's a map that THT will want.

  8. It's a tough question Eddie. You can weigh pros and cons all day and never reach a conclusive answer. It is entirely possible that he is the best QB we have, if that's the case then he should start.

  10. FSJ- it's all good man..I don't usually have any significant substance for the first post..not as original "ONE!" anyway..

  11. eddie- I'm still behind Kodi for the starter..that being said if Rollison can do it all the better..he should be given a shot for sure..plp that know way more about football than I do seem to think that Kodi just doesn't have the throwing ability so guess we'll see in the fall..sucks that we will likely not know who the starter is gonna be til the first game tho...

  12. Been lurking lately but not commenting but definitely need to wish Jay the Happiest of Birthdays!!

  13. wartiger- I would love for Kodi to be the starter because he is the best, but if the battle is even close with Rollison, then you go with the true freshman because it will be huge dividends a year or two down the road. Kodi has some of the worst footwork and throwin motion of any Auburn QB i've seen in a long time to be with the first team and a rocket arm to go with it. I don't think he can overcome that, but I would love to be proven wrong.

(508): my grandmother thought she vaccuumed up a quarter so she made me open the bag, dump it out on her front lawn, and dig through it. no quarter.

  18. just read this about Chizik's appearance last nite. funny stuff:

Jokingly, on a conversation with his wife on an Iowa highway after being offered the Auburn job: "So I looked at my wife and said, 'Hey, we've got a chance to go back to Auburn.' So my wife's trying to act cool. She says, 'You know what, that's a great idea. Let's pray about it.' I'm thinking, it's 12 degrees out there. There ain't a lot to pray about. So we head down the highway, get to the house, we walk in there toward the spot we usually pray at. She goes right and I take off to the left and she says, 'Where are you going?' I say, 'You go pray, I'll go pack.'"

  31. afternoon..all.

Last night was a success at the Auburn club meeting in the Mobile area. Chizik drew around 800 strong. He brought Coach Lupers with him. I liked Chiziks assessment, no false promises. He said we have lots of work to do. He comes across as a no nonsense guy, you can tell he is from a military background. He wants to fight and play hard. Coach Luper equally nice guy. I can see why he is a great recruiter. I did not know he had adult braces. Plus he is easily identified with the orange shades. He said he plans on hitting Alabama as hard or harder that anyone before.

  32. Occasionally you see someone supporting their university in a unique way. This lady really did give a good indication of how great Florida is and how great Corch Meyer is. Will giving Tebow props, she also showed a lot of respect for Percy Harvey. You got to respect a knowledgeable football fan like this.

  33. Also saw old Tiger player and former Tigers Unlimited worker Haven Fields there. He played LB a few years back. He told me he now works for South Alabama in the athletic program. He said he wants to be an AD or close to it one day.

Our grey shirt, from Daphne, AL, Robert Cooper was there. He is a big kid, but is he any good, who knows, Coach would not allow drills to be conducted in the banquet room.

  34. Sensi-Thanks for the link man..you got me watching another 45 minutes worth of video but now I am pumped for football season..WHAT?! it's only May!!...nooooo!!..how many more days somebody?

  35. Coach Chizik also told a story where he played in a golf tournament recently where he talked to a bunch of former players in the pros. They all sounded excited, he invited to all come back and work with the program and come to the games and talk to the players. Takeo Spike told him he watches all the Auburn Saturday games and if Auburn loses he wont speak to anyone for almost 24 hours. Good to hear.

  36. for those who have met or heard CGC what would you say is the biggest difference between him and CTT?

  37. "He said he plans on hitting Alabama as hard or harder that anyone before."

I hope he means in more ways than one.

  38. Luper needs to be aware that Saban hits back... :-)

Steve: That clip you linked is very funny. What a representative for the people of Florida.

    Go gator.

  40. The more I learn about Chizik, the more I am convinced that he is just like Tuberville, Dye, and Jordan; good Auburn men. I really think Jacobs hiring Chizik turned out to be a brilliant move after I see the staff that he has put together. It isn't just the quality of the coaches, but also the family atmosphere that has always exemplified Auburn.

These new coaches still have a lot to prove, but they have already shown a lot in terms of exemplifying the Auburn spirit, which to me is more important than wins and losses.

I hesitated to judge the hiring of Chizik initially because I didn't know his plan for the program. I knew Chizik was probably a possibility if we didn't get Boom.

After seeing what Chizik's plan for Auburn is, I think Jacobs made a wise and gutsy choice. It takes guts to hire a guy with Chizik's record and a guy that plans on bringing in an OC that will run a form of the spread offense. For this, I respect Jacobs.

I cannot wait until football season. Yea, I do think this team will likely finish 4th or 5th in the SEC West, but I think we will have a team that can compete with anyone we play.

Due to staff changes, It will likely be at least 4 years before we compete for the west title, but the more I learn about this staff, the more I think it won't be too much over 4 years before we are in the SECCG again.

  42. Norm, so sorry for the delay.
