Big developments

Kodi Burns practiced at wideout today.

The other four quarterbacks were going through the usual drills. Burns was catching passes from the JUGS machine and learning some new techniques from Trooper Taylor.

I can't imagine this will last. Surely Burns will transfer. Right?

ALSO: Linebacker Eltoro Freeman was wearing a cast on his right hand. He isn't practicing.

  1. Onterio is so FAH that when he hits the corner, the DB won't know whether to cry or wind his watch.

  2. Hey DL! Haven't heard from you today. How's it going?

    ReplyDelete
  3. I did not see that coming...

    ReplyDelete
  4. work is kickin my butt this week

    ReplyDelete
  5. from prior thread... Well, sounds like Caudle may be the temp #2, unless of course there is no temp to it in which case...Rollison?

    ReplyDelete
  6. It's all beginning to come together.

    ReplyDelete
  7. work stinks. But it pays the bills. I can't wait for Bill Gates to give me a big lump of cash so I don't have to work.

    ReplyDelete
  8. So when does Kodi Burns start practice at Appy State?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Anonymous7:39 PM

As soon as he can get his release RK. He can't be happy.

    ReplyDelete
  10. perhaps this is what Troop was talking about when he suggested they might redshirt some upper class receivers

    ReplyDelete
  11. that was my question, WERK

    ReplyDelete
  12. At least Burns still has a redshirt, so he could transfer to a 1-A school, use his redshirt next year and still have two years to play.

I've said it all summer, I didn't think Kodi would ever take another snap at Auburn at QB.

    ReplyDelete
  13. App State doesn't need a QB this year. They already have a great one. Of course, they could be looking for a backup.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I like Kodi. Sad day. Maybe he can add some depth as a wide out role. There could be some interesting plays being drawn up with a former QB in that role.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm heartbroken...This must be stopped.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Was Kodi a 4-star?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I doubt Kodi will play much WR, he's not fast enough and when he does have the ball he runs too off balance.

    I could be wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anonymous7:43 PM

There is definitely a lot of potential for him if he stays. I just can't see him accepting it. I could be wrong though. I've never met the kid.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I like Kodi a lot, too. I wish he could have earned the starter's spot. But this ain't no lovefest. We gotta go with a QB who will get the job done.

    ReplyDelete
  20. If I'm not mistaken Kodi was a 5 star in one and a 4 star in another.

    ReplyDelete
  21. hey FSJ - how's things on your side of the fence?

    ReplyDelete
  22. He might like playing WR.

He might be good at it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. bad BAD news for us and The Bull :-(

    ReplyDelete
  24. Eltoro Freeman has a cast on his right hand.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think he's a bit slow for a WR.

Fast for a QB, slow for a WR.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Has to be at TE, cause I just don't think he has the speed to get separation on a DB from the WR spot...

    ReplyDelete
  27. please tell me he didn't break his scaphoid like Blackmon.

    ReplyDelete
  28. WERK do you think he'll leave for real?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Is it a Patrick Willis type cast?

    ReplyDelete
  30. This seems to be the most appropriate solution in the long term. Todd will be gone next year and Tyrik will be groomed this year to be ready to step into the starting role in 2010.

    ReplyDelete
  31. A cast? Say it ain't so. What happened? Is he practicing?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Mon,

I think if he isn't given a chance at QB, he'll leave.

I don't blame him. Some smaller school will give him a shot to play QB.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Can KB play LB?? I like Kodi and I'm sad that he didnt make the QB cut.

    However...

McCalebb is so FAH that he can run around the world and punch the pursuing DB in the back of the head.

    ReplyDelete
  34. you got us a cast picture, JGT?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Eltoro is on "Muscle Beach" where injured players spend practice. He was in high spirits, but I think he'll spend his night on a bike.

    ReplyDelete
  36. D.Miller

    A 205 pound TE?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm sad for Kodi. He's had a rough couple of years. I wouldn't blame him if he transferred. I wish him well. I'm scared that Todd is going to be our starter. Is his arm really healed. Now I'm getting that really anxious feeling........

    ReplyDelete
  38. No cast picture.

I'm one guy. I was across the field taping and shooting Burns.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Kathy,

I'd be far more worried about this season had Kodi been named the starter.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Lord, I hope Gus is as good as I'm convincing myself he is!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Jay G,

Is it one of those monsterous Patrick Willis type casts he had at Ole Miss?

    A club?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I was excited the other day when Kodi was reported to have said he thought he had done enough to start.

THT...things are fine..just ready to kick this season off.

    ReplyDelete

    The Bull's hoof hurts!! ======>

    Bummer!

    ReplyDelete
  44. that's quite allright. Believe it or not, I'll live!

Thanks for keeping us up to date.

p.s. maybe let Onterio run around taking pics with your camera... I've heard he's fast ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  45. It wasn't a big cast, no.

    ReplyDelete
  46. WERK, after last season, I don't have much confidence in either of those QBs. Todd had a serious injury and surgery. I want to see the deep ball every once and a while. I just don't know if Todd is a deep-ball threat which means the defense can play up.

    ReplyDelete
  47. What are the chance Burns stays? I mean he could be a QB at a smaller school, but to what end. He clearly isn't going to be playing on Sundays. Why not stay the place you have been for three years and finish things out? I am an optimist...

    ReplyDelete
  48. Anonymous7:55 PM

I blame poor coaching for Kodi's problems. But from what I've seen and heard, seen didn't get his problems fixed over the summer.

    ReplyDelete
  49. If I'm a kid and I think I can play QB, I'm going to go to a place where I can play QB.

    That's just my thought.

    Kathy,

I trust that Gus won't start a QB unless he feels that QB is our best option.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Anonymous7:57 PM

Caudle is the guy. Tye rick will assume the roll of Wildcat QB during the season to prep for next yr.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I sure hope we're getting all of our injuries out of the way now. If we keeping having attrition at the rate of the offseason, we'll have to forget about platoon football and go back to putting the best, or healthiest 11 out there the whole game.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I want to see the interview of Kodi after practice tonight.

Didn't we all kind of sense this?

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm 75% sure it's Todd, 20% sure it's Rollison, 3% sure it's Caudle & the other 2% is on us having the 1st Wildcat only offense with no QB.

    ReplyDelete
  55. isn't that like the single wing?

    ReplyDelete
  56. And I really hope he can be a team player and do what the coaches ask of him. Although that would be the hardest thing to do.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Kodi convinced me that he could not play QB in the SEC during the UAT game last year. In the UGA game he showed green shoots of progress, but those all withered under the pressure of playing the "hated ones" in T-town. Good luck to the young man if he chooses to transfer.

    ReplyDelete
  58. my bad, the double wing

    ReplyDelete
  59. Somewhat like the single wing, but didn't they label one player as a QB in the single wing?

    ReplyDelete
  60. We need to name the starting QB now and let him start getting the majority of the reps. When was the last time we actually had a true starting QB?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Kathy,

The better question is, how often in our past have we had a QB that scared other D's and they had to really scheme for.

Sadly, we've rarely been QB U.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Anonymous8:04 PM

Cox was the last real starter.

    ReplyDelete
  63. What am I going to do with my 18 jersey now?

    ReplyDelete
  64. That being said, we need to name a QB soon, but I do feel that this staff has had an idea who the QB will be for a little while and just let it play out for the first week or so of practice.

    ReplyDelete
  65. IMO, it has to be Todd now..

I think they use Todd the majority of the season and mix Rollison in enough to get him some experience for next year. Maybe Kodi will end up at UNA with Bowden.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Anonymous8:05 PM

    '05,'06 with Brandon Cox.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I was warned earlier that our video server was on the fritz.

    May His Judgment Cometh;
    And That Right Soon

    ReplyDelete
  68. Anonymous8:06 PM

The coaches have to be sure their decision is right and everyone has to feel they had a fair shot.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Anonymous8:06 PM

The true don't worry about it?

    '04

    ReplyDelete
  70. Even in 06 with Cox, there was a small, but vocal minority that thought Blake Field should be out there.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I gotta ask, does it strike anyone as strange that this development in the QB race should happen at precisely the time that practice was open to the public for the first time?

Maybe I'm just listening for the telltale whir of the black helicopters, but still. . .

BTW, I hope AU1N04 is on the money. That scenario would work for me.

    ReplyDelete
  72. If this means Todd is possibly the starter... God help us all...

    ReplyDelete
  73. Chances of Burns staying: 1%.

    ReplyDelete
  74. You mean Kodi isn't going to be the starter? Wow, who in the world will be the starter now? I have no idea.

As for as the Eltoro case, I just have to say we truct Franklin, or wtf for short.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Practice was open to the public today for the first time?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Anonymous8:07 PM

    Jimmy B - How ya B?!

    ReplyDelete
  77. WERK,

    A 4.8/40 WR??

    ReplyDelete
  78. Steve you may have been right about Todd all along...however I will say that I have said all along if his shoulder is healthy, he may be our best option.

Not a great option, but our best one.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Apparently Todd is better than Burns, so I really don't understand the comment. Didn't you see the suctacular performance by Kodi last season?

    ReplyDelete
  80. D Miller..

A receiver with that speed is known as a possession receiver.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Anonymous8:09 PM

JGT - You have to make the over/under a bit higher to make the cash sir!

    ReplyDelete
  82. D.Miller,

I don't think for a second Kodi can be a WR, but a TE? He'd get eaten alive if they ever asked him to block a DE or LB.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Can't complain AU... except about the QB race. Really can't complain about that if the truth be known, all I can do is throw up in my mouth a little and wash it down with some bourbon...

    ReplyDelete
  84. Anonymous8:10 PM

What if Rollison is the guy from day 1?

    Discuss....

    ReplyDelete
  85. RK, Todd will be a much better option than you would ever anticipate. He doesn't even have to have a strong arm, just a consistent arm.

    ReplyDelete
  86. nah

big dose of Todd with the occasional Rollison...just gotta be

    right? gulp

    ReplyDelete
  87. Jay, did KB say something that warrants your 1% prediction?

    ReplyDelete
  88. If TR is the guy from day one... that would be an exponentially better option than CT...

Have I said that I don't like CT yet?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Rollison being the guy from day 1 would be very scary. We have damaged other high profile recruits by doing that, such as Campbell and Burns. I hope it doesn't happen, but it is possible.

    ReplyDelete
  90. ok this is how it will go in monica's fantasy game

todd will start, be enough to eek by while Rollison get's in and shines shocking the world as the best true freshman quarterback since...ummm...

    ReplyDelete
  91. JGT, since today's practice was open. Which QB was getting the most reps's today? And are the receivers looking as good as Tropper says?

    ReplyDelete
  92. Anonymous8:13 PM

    Jelly Bellies are addictive.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Anonymous8:14 PM

Did I miss something? When did the new staff announce that they'd be fielding a QB at every position?
    Robert Cooper at TE.
    Fannin at RB/H-back
    Aycock at RB
    Stallworth at WR/H-back
    now Burns at WR

    WOW!!!
And just think, we still have 5 more on scholly. Think any of them can play OL?

    ReplyDelete
  94. If Rollison is the starter from day 1, I really how that he is a quick study.

However playing the 1st month at home is a bonus if we have a true freshman there.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Rollison better than Todd? That sounds a bit wacko. Todd has a lot of experience. Rollison has nothing and needs some weight on his bones. If we have to go with Rollison, it would mean Todd still has shoulder issues, which I don't believe is the case. Geeze, I hope we don't have to start Rollison the first game. It could end up costing us a potential outstanding QB.

    ReplyDelete
  96. what's a jelly belly?

    ReplyDelete
  97. I trust you judgement on wacko 100%, Steve.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I blame Jet for the Bull having a cast on his arm. Jet was in Auburn today. Coincidence? I think not.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Anonymous8:16 PM

    Side note.
Ok, I am watching the Ravens game. Micheal Oher is a great story. And now I have seen him make a great play.

He pancaked Rinaldo Wynn of the Redskins, his helmet flew off and his head knocked the Wynn's helmet. Blood every where left for stitches and came back in.

    Perfect!!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Not to bring up a sore subject....

But does this mean that Gus and Chizik agree with Tony Franklin?

    ReplyDelete
  101. Did Stan start as a true freshman or was he red shirted? I've killed way too many brain cells over the years to remember that far back...

    ReplyDelete
  102. Monica, you almost caused me to spit fruit punch all over my computer.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Anonymous8:18 PM

The little jelly beans Mon. The model for Bertie Botts Every Flavor beans.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Omnica has a more ideal scenario, which would be for Todd to start until Rollison gets a bit of experience. Hopefully Rollison could be ready by the Tennessee or Arkansas game, but if we throw him to the wolves in the first game, we will be looking for a new QB. He will end up being another Kodi Burns. Anybody remember all the Kodi lovers?

    ReplyDelete
  105. Stan White was a redshirt.

    ReplyDelete
  106. For some reason I thought Stan started as a true freshman but I am not sure.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Stan White started as a red shirt frosh for Coach PFD.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Thanks RK. Like I said... that was a long time ago...

    ReplyDelete
  109. Steve,

If you rewind 365 days you'll see almost the same words being said about Burns that a lot of people are saying now about Rollison.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Burns is a quarterback.

I just don't see how he's going to play wideout for real, but maybe that's his plan. I don't know yet. This just happened.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Any bets that some racists remark are made Friday morning on the local Gump radio show. Turner Gill's name and all that crap will surface again.

    ReplyDelete
  112. If Burns is serious about playing wideout, he'll have to redshirt. He has no idea how to play the position.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Also, if you rewind 365 days you'll see almost the same words being said about Chris Todd that a lot of people are saying now about Chris Todd.

    ReplyDelete
  114. RK, exactly. People are convinced he is the savior. Tyrik could end up being a great QB, but if we screw him up like we do every other potential good QB, he will be another Burns.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Anonymous8:21 PM

Is it possible Burns saw the writing on the wall and asked for the move?

    ReplyDelete
  116. OK, JGT, it appears I was mistaken. . .but it just seemed suspicious to me anyway.

    Call me paranoid.

Odds on the QB race in light of this development?

    ReplyDelete
  117. Anonymous8:21 PM

Another side note and a bit frustrating from SI.

They picked AU to finish last in the West, 2-6 in the SEC and 6-6 overall. But already had Chizik on the hot seat because of fan reaction and whether or not he would get enough time to make changes.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Video is UP.

Mute your computers. LOUD ADS AHEAD.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I'm gonna have nightmares tonight about CT... involving pick sixes... lame duck floaters, and 5 yard passes to TT...

    ReplyDelete
  120. wtc,

I don't think so, or I'd hope not. Burns not playing QB obviously isn't a black or white thing.

    Jay G,

You on the radio in the morning?

    ReplyDelete
  121. FJS, your comment is very reveling. Could it be the best evaluator of talent on the previous staff is now at MTSU?

    ReplyDelete
  122. This was like the seventh time practice was open to reporters. It's never been open to the public.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Burns played a little receiver last year and that is why I thought it might be an option. This would make him being the wildcat QB make a bit more sense. He has decent speed and great athletic ability.

    ReplyDelete
  124. WERK - that kinda makes me proud :-)

    ReplyDelete
  125. Is it true Kodi was wearing a no-touch jersey?

    ReplyDelete
  126. I don't doubt: Todd's a fine QB.

I do doubt: I ever have or will see him at 100%.

    ReplyDelete
  127. It has got to be Todd. CGC has EVERYTHING on the line. CGC and CGM are straight shooters.... they would not have spent more than one day with Todd if his arm was not up to par.

    ReplyDelete
  128. FSJ- That means Gus and Gene agree with Borges, and Franklin. The only one that thought he could play QB was the guy that had very little to do with the offense. (Tubbs)

    ReplyDelete
  129. I find how they are doing this kind of troubling. It is a practice open to the reporters. They say, lets go out there and have a good practice, and by the way Kodi, you are now a wide receiver. Now, lets get out there and have a heck of a practice. They should have announced something first. I hope the hacks lay off Kodi after practice. Stick you microphone in Malzahn and Chizik's faces.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I always contend that the most popular player on a team is the backup QB...

When Barker was our QB everybody wanted Burgdorf (why?)

Then when Burgdorf got his chance everybody wanted Kitchens

    Then the whole Zow/Watts thing...

    ReplyDelete
  131. I call a 4.8 WR "never open" rather than a possession receiver, because they'd never be able to get separation from a DB.

And yes, there is a such thing as a receiving TE at that size... they, obviously, would not ask him to block...

you want black helicopters... here's one for you...... IF practice was open to the public today, this may have been a stunt. Why would they open practice to the public for the first time, and move Burns to WR when they knew everyone would notice?

    ReplyDelete
  132. Anonymous8:31 PM

    How about this scenario???

Kodi is our starter. He is working at WR so that he and Fannin, Blake, Aycock, Stallworth, etc can swap positions and run the wildcat without having to change personel. Hey, stranger things have happened. That way we could swap offensive formations from the no huddle and keep the defense from being able to bring in run stoppers between plays. If Kodi learns a few routes, he can become a legitimate threat at WR in the Wildcat.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Good evening, HOT ONES.
