Days to kickoff: 13
Our Tar Heel Tiger's Auburn Minute is brought to you by the number:
13
HAPPY JAMES MCKINNEY DAY!!!
James McKinney was a two-time ALL-SEC Free Safety for the Auburn Tigers in the late '70s. James led the Tigers with 5 INTs in 1977 and again with 4 INTs in 1979.
James McKinney matriculated in Sulligent, Ala., where he played quarterback on a team which featured a more high profile player: James's cousin, Joe Cribbs. They both arrived in Auburn in the fall of 1976.
HONORABLE MENTION:
* Tim Hawthorne: Former Homewood High standout who signed with Auburn in 2006. Involved in a hellacious one-vehicle accident in early 2007 along I-85 that claimed one life. He emerged from the mess with only a concussion. He's been a reserve player so far.

You also have a good memory IV 13-0 with no 1st downs and minus yardage. But we lost 0-3 in 1959
Whatever...
Hey is doesn't bother me none I'm just happy to be here.
Now I got to get on by roll-around and get something to eat.
Peter, I'm sorry. It's just that I am very proud of my 70 plus years and I have a dear friend in his 40s who is almost like my third son. He named me the "old f@rt" several years ago and I call him Jughead. Whenever he gets real rowdy, I tell him that I have accomplished something he is not sure he will do, yada, yada, yada. He is an Auburn Grad and loves Auburn almost as much as I do. For a minute there when you posted "old geezers', I felt like I was talking to Jughead. You can call me Michael's Tim, you can call me Earl, you can call me '57 or you can call me IV, but you had better smile when you call me old geezer. WAR EAGLE, keep hate fresh.
Digger - I've been digging for information about those peculiar rules. I can't copy/paste from this site, but bottom of page 30 and top of page 31 have interesting discussion about the substitution rule changes, including an interesting anecdote about the Bahr who was KY coach at the time. I'm guessing it was alcohol, not "substitution bookkeeping".
Just kidding.
I can assure that I was smiling when I called you that and read your reply. I like your posts.
new thread up
Okay Monica, just for you since you think I am a story tease. I really had to think about this to be sure that I really wanted to tell this story. For a number of years, due to a lot of reasons, I was unable to go to AU games. Some of those reasons were personal, some were not but we won't get into that. I can't remember how many years I missed going to a game, but you can bet your last cent that I had the TV or radio on as the case maybe. They had started letting the Eagle Fly after my absence began. I truly wanted to see the pre-game flight more than anything else in the world at that time. I kid alot but I do have some health issues, nothing serious but they could at some point become serious. Like any of us, not knowing how long we are going to be around, I decided that I had better get to Auburn and see the Eagle fly. I talked with my maker and I asked him to help me get back home one more time and please let me get there to see the eagle fly. I made it there. At that time, they were rotating the eagles between Tiger, Spirit and I think one more. I was hoping to see Tiger but did not really care as long as I could see one of them. As fate would have it, Tiger made her last flight that day and went into retirement afterwards. I could not help the crowd yelling War Eagle as she made her flight from the top of JH Stadium to Pat Dye Field for two reasons. I was in awe of the sight and I was choked up from the experience. When she hit the turf, I tried to hide them but the tears flowed down my face even though it was unashamedly. My wife turned to me and thinking that something may be seriously wrong asked me what was going on? I told her that God had answered my fervent prayer and that was the most beautiful sight that these tired eyes had ever seen. I then told her that If the band would just play Tiger Rag one more time God could go ahead and take me if he needed me, I would die a happy man. Can you imagine what the band broke out into at that precise moment. I guess God doesn't need me just yet and maybe just maybe I can go back one more time and see that magnificent bird fly one more time. WAR EAGLE, LOVE AUBURN.
That is an AWESOME story, IV!!
I so hope you get to make LOTS more games. If I get really, really lucky I'll get to met you at one of those games.
No way Tim Hawthorne should be mentioned with the other great players at their respective numbers. We are talking all time greats for freaks sake. Has this guy gotten any meaningful snaps. (I know he has played meaningful snaps) but he doesn't even start with what WAS one of the worst WR corps in Auburn history. EXPECT BETTER.
Sorry I've been out of commission the last few days. My laptop had to be worked on after a futile attempt to see the Erin Andrews video. Lucky for me a friend had it on DVD to watch. Laptop will be back tomorrow.
Good story IV. You're alright guy by me. Talk about getting choked up. The 2003 opener against USC (though it ended poorly) the hype of the off season not to mention the death of Jim Fyffe in May. The day he died I said I'd be at that opener no matter the cost of a ticket. Didn't disappoint. The pre-game ceremony and video montage had that 23 year old at the time in tears. Not to mention the flyover that followed. I still think that season would make a great "Season on the Brink" tale. Thats the story I'd love to one day hear. We had lost our voice and out title hopes but the next year put it all together.
