Days to kickoff: 24

Our Tar Heel Tiger's Auburn Minute* is brought to you by the number:

24

*=FOR THE ANONYMOUS EMAILER WHO GOES BY "MIKE PRICELESS": The following post was written by Tar Heel Tiger, who is an esteemed member of our community. I, Jay G. Tate, did not write the following passage. If the previous two sentences don't sufficiently convey the fact that Tar Heel Tiger wrote this piece, please contact me again. Perhaps I can call you on the phone and read to you. Polysyllabic words can be tricky in print.

HAPPY CARNELL WILLIAMS DAY!!!

No bio needed here, all the Hotties know about Cadillac's exploits. However, in my best (which isn't nearly good enough) Jet impersonation, I've revised a few lyrics to Bruce Springsteen's Cadillac Ranch:
Cadillac, Cadillac
Strong and fast Tiger Tailback
Open up your engines let 'em roar
Tearing up the gridiron, he's our Super 24!

Jay G.'s note on Williams: What always struck me about Carnell was his thirst for competition. He didn't know how to back down from a challenge. I think that's part of the reason he was hurt (and is hurt) so often -- he thought avoiding tackles was for lesser backs. Very country. Played with a ton of enthusiasm. Always seemed distant to me, like he didn't want people to really know him. Best tailback I've ever covered.

HONORABLE MENTION:

* Bobby "Goose" Freeman: born in Birmingham in 1932, high schooled in Decatur, Ala., was an outstanding QB/DB on Shug Jordan's early teams. He was Senior Bowl MVP in 1955 as quarterback of the winning South team. Bobby had 15 interceptions as a defensive back during a six-year NFL career with the Browns, Packers, Eagles, and Redskins.

Lots of 24s eligible for shout outs. Let's hear 'em!!!

  3. the cadillac song also fits the spiderman theme song

    ReplyDelete
  4. Jay,
    Much, much better!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Maybe i'm not in know on this, but why is Chizik wearing a mic at most practices?

My favorite fan sign ever was before the 2003 Iron Bowl.

    "Auburn is Rolling on 24s"

The first play of that game Carnell Williams broke a draw play 80 yards to put the first TD on the board.

    "Go crazy, Cadillac. Go crazy!"

If memory serves, he finished the game with 200 yards on the ground.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I still need to know what to do with my armadillo!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Besides eat him as THT suggested.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Sensi,
I can still hear Jim Fyffe yelling that, "Go crazy, Cadillac, go crazy!" Such good memories.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Anonymous8:57 AM

    Try this, cincy.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Anonymous8:58 AM

    That was actually Rod Bramblett.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Eddie: Auburn has its own video crews -- with AUHD, I'm guessing -- and they are allowed to attend/tape practice.

Of course, their footage is carefully monitored and censored if necessary.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Oh, Ssnsi, you're right. I still want to attribute all of my wonderful memories of play calling to Jim. No one will ever meet his mark.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Cincy...

I have no personal experience, but a buddy in your area recommended these folks.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Best fan sign I ever saw:

    1999
    Ole Miss at Auburn

    GREAT AMERICAN TRAITORS
    1.) Benedict Arnold
    2.) My Prom Date
    3.) TOMMY TUBERVILLE

    ReplyDelete
  16. Anonymous9:01 AM

Agreed, Cincy. Jim Fyffe was one of a kind on the radio.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Thanks Jay G. Nice to know.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anonymous9:02 AM

    Of course that's your favorite.

Best hate in rivalry was the plastic skeleton with the houndstooth hat sitting in a lawn chair with a sign that said, "Take a picture with The Bear."

    ReplyDelete
  19. I've been watching a ton of old Auburn videos and have been enjoying listening to Jim get excited over different plays. But, since he died in May of 2003 I guess it would have been hard for him to call the Iron Bowl. Except maybe from heaven, which it was heavenly :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Morning guys, got my tickets last night. So I know the season is close. Wife and I moved down 25 rows in section 43 so we are pumped.

One thing I take away from the team this year is that many of the guys are happy and excited about the new coaches, offense and defense. I think we have talent to win ball games we just do not have alot of depth.

The quarterback situation is strange. I think the two young guys played because he was seeing who to redshirt. But that doesnt make sense either because Mosely already said he thought he would and Rollison seems light years ahead of most qbs. I dont know its confusing. I dont think we will know for at least another week.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Jim Fyffe didn't broadcast the 2003 Iron Bowl. He died in July 2003.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I miss Fyffe, used to talk to him evey time I saw him.

I haven't spoken to Rod Bramblett since the day I wrote a story about him getting the job.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anonymous9:03 AM

LOL @ My Prom Date, by the way.

Wonder if that person ever recovered from such treachery?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I never liked the "Go Crazy Cadillac" call.

    It seemed full of cheese.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I love the idea of a prom date being a traitor. Very clever.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yes, WERK, we established that.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anonymous9:06 AM

Is there tension between Rod Bramblett and other beat writers?

I don't read much of him during the season, but he is on a few radio shows from time to time.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah, I started typing that, left the room and came back. So I missed the earlier response.

That being said...Rod Bramblett is awful.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Sensi & ehyou,
Thanks for the advice. Calling the critter people now.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Sorry, but I like Rod Bramblett personally, as I knew from his locker room interview days while I was there, but he just doesn't do a thing for me calling a game. It is just not even close to what I grew up with. I wish Auburn would get someone else, mainly Barry McKnight to do Football Play by Play.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Rod is above this writer.

Can't speak to the experiences of other writers.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anonymous9:07 AM

Rod is still way better than Eli Gold and the liquor cabinet former Bammer players they stick in the booth with him.

At least with Rod, you hear the time in the game and the score more than twice.

    ReplyDelete
  33. His prom date must have decided to "go beaver".....

    ReplyDelete
  34. The problem with Rod is he isnt Jim and thats hard to follow. Its like following any legend.

The worst is the after game call in show. Whew, zzzzzz. Wife and I try to listen to the college station because they dont cut off fans with honest questions or opinions.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anonymous9:09 AM

Best call in show after the game is the one on The Eagle 93.9 out of Auburn. I have the audio after a few games from last year.

    It is very entertaining.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anonymous9:10 AM

I'm curious, how was Rod Bramblett chosen as the voice of Auburn football after Jim Fyffe's passing?

He was doing AU baseball already, right?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Armadillos, being docile and slow, are easily clubbed.

    Just sayin'.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Rod Bramblett does absolutely nothing for me. Pure Vanilla with his play calling.

    LT

    ReplyDelete
  39. PDWT- The thing about the Official Auburn post-game show is they censor it to death and will bash anybody that calls in negative, even after last season. I can understand that, but at the same time, why have a call-in show if you are not going to let people express themselves the way they really feel.

    ReplyDelete
  40. "I wouldn't want to be Malzahn right now, to be honest with you," defensive back Walt McFadden said with a laugh. "All the quarterbacks looked pretty good."

I don't think I believe that. I think he stole that line from Tony Franklin.

So there are people who actually still listen to radio?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Rod needs to also drop the "Touchdown Auburn" call all together. Somethings just do not need to be touched and left as they were remembered.

    ReplyDelete
  42. "The problem with Rod is he isnt Jim and thats hard to follow."

Not true, Rod is awful on his own without comparison to anyone...he's among the worst all time compared to Fyffe.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Eli is a jerk too. Or at least he has when I have been around to see how he treats people.

Maybe they will replace him with our basketball announcer soon.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Anonymous9:15 AM

Agreed, Eddie. That one should be retired.

What's wrong with Touchdown Tigers except that it didn't happen nearly enough last year?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anonymous9:16 AM

RK - That's midseason humor. You are in form, good sir.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anonymous9:16 AM

    FSJ, Chris Stewart?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Is it safe to say that Fyffe was every Auburn fan's favorite Kentuckian*, with second being a toss-up between JGT and Chris Todd?

    * Not to be confused with every Auburn fan's favorite Kentucky product, which is an amber-brown liquid that may lead to lost pants

    ReplyDelete
  48. I agree after last year the call in show was towing the company line. I wanted to scream "Rod, are you watching the games?"

Yea, he shouldnt yell touchdown Auburn, maybe he needs his own phrase, what about En Fuego or Boo-ya, oh wait thats ESPN's annoying phrases.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Also, all Rod does during a broadcast is cry and moan about every officials call.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Anonymous9:17 AM

On a #24 note, is Carnell expected to make it back this season for the Bucs? He's had the worst injury bug.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Steal John Ward's "Give Him Six" call.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yep Sensi..

He's much better than Eli....He's a homer to be sure but at least he tells you time, score, stuff like that.

    ReplyDelete
  53. WERK,
In reading back over my response, that sounded pretty bit--y. Sorry about that!

    ReplyDelete
  54. The worst thing about Rod is that you know it is not going to change anytime soon. I too get tired of the whining about calls.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Anonymous9:19 AM

FSJ, he is an upgrade in terms of quality for sure.

Last year I was in Florida and caught a Florida State game on Saturday and a Tampa Bay Bucs game on Sunday which featured the same play-by-play guy. Not sure who he is, but he is very good.

    ReplyDelete
  56. But if they retired "Touchdown Auburn", and then the next radio guy became iconic with "Touchdown Tigers" so that you also had to retire that one when he retired, in 50 years or so we would be stuck with an announcer saying "The team in blue just crossed the goal line with the ball!"

I have only listened to Rod on the radio for a whole game once, and I thought he did a good job. I was not a regular radio listener though back in the day, so he didn't have a ghost to live up to.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Rod is definately a company guy, he won't be critical at all.

    ReplyDelete
  58. sensi- read where cadillac is looking pretty good in camp. Don't know what that really mens though

    ReplyDelete
  59. Anonymous9:20 AM

Complaining about refs as a play-by-play announcer is so...Bammer

    ReplyDelete
  60. Cincy,

Armadillos, all depends on what phase you are willing to go to.

I have seen .22 rifles used or bigger, traps that close them in. Then you drop them off elsewhere or poison. Or call a critter catcher.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Anonymous9:21 AM

    Harrison, that's good to hear.

I know Gruden was a big supporter of his, but haven't heard if the new coach was or not.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Cincy,

I didn't take it that way, don't worry.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Cadillace = Knowshown Moreno, I believe the Broncos will pay him to spend time on the injured reserve. Cadillac was a warrior, but not a huge back.

    ReplyDelete
  64. The best one we've had was Paul Kennedy when Perkins was here. He was removed because he wasn't John Forney.

It's a shame really. John was replaced when Perkins came in because physically he couldn't do a top notch job anymore. Bryant didn't care, but Perkins did. Paul Kennedy was Vandy's play by play guy at the time and was great when he was at Alabama.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Care to take a guess how much armadillos are worth? $199.95 to set up the traps and then $125 per armadillo to dispose.

I think I like ehyou's idea of clubbing them!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Armadillo - aka "possum on the half-shell"

    ReplyDelete
  67. Patellar tendons are overrated. Caddy never really needed his.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Anonymous9:24 AM

$15.95 for an Eason aluminum bat.

    Snag and extra Wal-Mart bag

    End of problem.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Anonymous9:25 AM

If I'm not mistaken, the 2004 backfield are all in contract years with their respective NFL teams.

I expect Ronnie to stay in Miami, but won't be surprised if Jason C. and Carnell are wearing different colors in 2010.

    ReplyDelete
  70. The Skins aren't overly happy with Jason as it is, so I would expect him to be gone.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Anonymous9:28 AM

I agree, RK. There's always a team looking for a QB. He'll get a chance elsewhere.

Carnell on the other hand...RBs have a very short shelf life in the NFL.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Cincy,
Rattlesnakes are the natural enemy of the armadillo.
I suggest you take a bag of 50-75 large rattlesnakes and let them loose in your yard.
    Problem solved.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Anonymous9:30 AM

Traditions die hard at Ole Miss...including overt slavery references.

Aubie, what does she do about the rattlers after the 'dillo is gone?

    ReplyDelete
  77. tarantulas. Rattlesnakes hate tarantulas.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Rttlesnake roundup! Keeps the kids busy for hours

    ReplyDelete
  79. Anonymous9:38 AM

    And what about the tarantulas?

Pretty soon cincy will have as many species of dangerous critters as Auburn has QBs

    ReplyDelete
  80. Well, I've heard that armadillos eat tarantulas.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Anonymous9:40 AM

    And the circle is complete.

Back to Rod bash 2009...right after these messages

    ReplyDelete
  82. Y'all are starting to freak me out. Snakes and spiders and I do not get along.

My job is only in collecting information. My hubby will have the actual "take care of this problem" job.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Sensi, Gene Deckerhoff is the play-by-play guy for Florida State and the Bucs. I grew up an FSU fan and listened to him quite a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Gene Deckerhoff is good. Chop-Chop.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Anonymous9:47 AM

Thanks, Brent. I enjoyed his two broadcasts a great deal.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Anonymous9:48 AM

    Cincy,

A bat. A trash bag. A congratulations beverage.

    That'll do it.

    ReplyDelete
  87. If I recall .. after last years pre season scrim. they always spoke about how the O won and the D could nto keep up...

Last year D was good and O stunk... I hope this is not a repeat fiasco...

    ReplyDelete
  88. Anonymous9:50 AM

    DL, good point.

    ReplyDelete
  89. In last year's scrimmage, the D was limited - I think they could not stunt and they had to count "three Mississippi"

    ReplyDelete
  90. dnatl, that's the only logical expalnation. 3-Mississippi. nice.

    ReplyDelete
  91. being so anxious to club the thing is a little scary

    ReplyDelete
  92. Actually, last year's O was going against a Arena League Defense, they only had like 7 players out there.

    ReplyDelete
  93. you know Mon, if you ain't in the club, you must be in the tub.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Last year's O seemed like it was playing 7 vs 11 during the game.

That made me laugh. I also liked Harrison's solution with how to get rid of the rattlesnakes.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Anonymous10:15 AM

Yikes. That last sentence is horrible. I meant to say...I liked Harrison's solution on how to get rid of the rattlesnakes.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Sensi...I think Alabama is a top ten team this year as well....

Reasons: Defense, Julio, RB's, & schedule.

I may be delusional as well. Wouldn't be the first time.. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  105. Preseanson polls are 100% bunk. It is impossible for anyone at this point to know and rank the 25 best teams in the country.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Jay, does that first part of this blog mean you didn't write the one? I was getting that feeling reading it.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Anonymous10:25 AM

Of course they are, ehyou, but they are fun to talk about leading into the season.

FSJ, you may be right, but I think losing 3/5 of a very good o-line and a senior QB in the SEC is going to take it's toll. Not that Bama will fall off the map, mind you.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Jay G, any chance you can start using Los Tigres instead of Les?

its just makes me think you are talking about lsu, even though i know....you are not.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Anonymous10:31 AM

I'd like to propose an addition to the land of verbs:

    36-0'd (pronounced: thirty-six to nothinged)

Definition: The display (either in written form or spoken word) of the 2008 Iron Bowl score of 36 to zero. Generally used by when Auburn Fans disagree with Alabama fans about almost anything.

Example: I was telling John I didn't think Alabama would be as good this year as they were last year and he 36-0'd me. Right there in front of God and everybody.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Luv - The Kentucky beverage quote and the the armadillo exchange cracked me up, too. We must be on the same wavelength. Oooh, armadillo exchange...that could be another way to get rid of it.

Btw, for those interested - U.S. vs. Mexico in World Cup qualifying futbol from Estadio Azteca at 3:00 CDT today.

    ReplyDelete
  111. ehyou - agree completely with you on preseason polls.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Cincy...I know this will come as a surprise to all of you, but I have more experience in armadillo extermination than I would care to admit. The .22LR is the best option because it allows you to sit in a lawn chair and drink many, many beers while you wait for the varmint to show itself. If you live in an area where the discharge of firearms is frowned upon, you might want to go with this option:

    The Sissy Method

If you're looking for an option somewhere in between, I'd go with the old compound bow and broadtipped arrow.

I'd advise against the clubbing option. The little fellas are surprisingly hard to kill with a club. TRUST ME ON THIS!

    ReplyDelete
  113. And you can get the traps at any farmer's co-op, Bass Pro Shop, or Cabela's.

    ReplyDelete
  114. My statement is this:

Rod and Rod (I mean, Stan) need to go.

Pay Charlie Trotman whatever it takes to get him back in the booth as the color analyst. Find another play-by-play guy. Bill Cameron? Some hired gun? Someone. Anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Anonymous10:50 AM

    Jet,

Why did Charlie Trotman leave the booth?

    ReplyDelete
  116. Anonymous10:51 AM

Mon.. for me pre-season polls and predicting the AU Qb starter have the same level of futility.

Check out this article on SEC attrition..guess who leads?:

    http://mrsec.com/tags/Auburn

    ReplyDelete
  117. Anonymous10:51 AM

Find another play-by-play guy. Some hired gun? Someone. Anyone.

    Two words Jet: Barry McKnight

    ReplyDelete
  118. Anonymous10:52 AM

That's a lot of high character no shows, Hoopie.

    ReplyDelete
  119. LOL Point taken, Hoopie.

I heard about that attrition list. WTC will enjoy that.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I think I have a good way to clear up the QB situation. Auburn needs to hire Ryan Seacrest to do a live special on ESPN to announce who the starting QB will be.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Sensi ... I presume for CT it was family ... his son was entering "playing sports" age.

    ReplyDelete
  122. I have entered the twitter age. I am now monitoring HABOTN on twitter. I will soon be the biggest twit out there.

    ReplyDelete
  123. for all the concern over the QB situation, i feel MUCH better about it this year because i have faith in the OC. i value his judgement a lot more than the previous one.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Chris Todd almost took himself out of the QB race the other day at the close of graduation. Fortunately for him, he spared his shoulder when decided against throwing his mortarboard cap in the air.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Anonymous11:00 AM

He wouldn't have thrown it far.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Anonymous11:02 AM

Good point, Nug. Malzhan has yet to refer to himself as "dumbass" or other pejoratives.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I will do my best to avoid commenting on Franklin references because it tends to lead the tiller to old ground that's been well plowed.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Anonymous11:14 AM

    Malzhan,

Not a dumbA and better calfs than Tony F.

    This much we know.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Goofiness ... or why predicting 1-120 and the bowls in the preseason is a ridiculous endeavor ...

SI has tabbed us 65th in their preseason rankings behind nine of of our opponents.

Yet, somehow we will persevere and play in the Liberty Bowl against Mike Priceless and UTEP.

    ReplyDelete

If we go to Memphis, I'll have to procure my heater from storage and I'm not talking about the one that sits on the floor and blows fuses.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Pre-season predictions are like comparing 6 year olds (last years teams) to 7 year olds (this years teams). Way too many differences to make reasonalble comparison.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Give 'em the heater, Ricky

I wonder if the field crew at Jordan Hare assessed Auburn the way the crew in Cleveland did that team?

    ReplyDelete
  135. "This guy's dead."

"Then cross him off the list."

    ReplyDelete
  136. Thanks THT for the Carnell Williams salute.
Having watched him through Jr. Ball all the way through High School at Etowah High School he was always something special. Not Big but always athletic and enthusiastic. Never stayed on the ground long after a play. Always jumped up clapping and talking.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Please do not jinx us by mentioning you know who, the OC that should not be named.

    ReplyDelete
  138. If you want a good assesment of Auburn, just wait till after the first game and let my Mom tell you what she thinks. She has a knack of being dead on. She told us we were crap after the La Monroe game.

    ReplyDelete
  139. The game I remember most from Caddy was when he ran 40 something times against UGA.

The game I think of when I think Caddy and Ronnie is the LSU game in 2004. They refused to be stopped.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Okay so I'm getting into the blog after lunch. CAN I POSSIBLY WAIT 24 MORE DAYS?!?!?!?

By the way what's this stuff about JGT not writing the jersey countdown thing?

  142. I saw the 2007 Cotton Bowl on TV this past weekend, we were garbage then and got by on adrenaline, luck and BS for the next year. It's amazing how bad we were then.

I watched the 1986 Cotton Bowl last night, Sean. Talk about a garbage passing game. Of course we did have Bo and Fullwood.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I used to get yelled at on the AL.com boards during the 2006 season when I said we were the worst 11-2 team that I had ever seen.

Somehow we finished 11-2, but I'll never know how.

  145. Sensi,

It was after the 86 Cotton Bowl destruction by A&M that Dye decided we needed to change offenses to a more pro-style type.

  146. WERK, adrenaline, luck and BS.

Defense was deep, aggresive, and solid, RK.

  148. Anonymous12:11 PM

Yep, the death of the option game at Auburn, RK. TAMU's QB torched the defense that day.

  149. 1986 Cotton Bowl Texas A&M home game. Sitting in our little corner watching the stands move because their cheer squad had them leaning left and right in unison.

Glad our drumline was great that day, it was one of the few highlights.

  150. RK- I got crushed by Steve for making that very same statement, exact words and all by Steve about the 2006 season.

  151. Jesus, I like him very much, but he no help with curve ball.

By the way what's this stuff about JGT not writing the jersey countdown thing?

mrtommyd, I was wondering that too. My guess is he got an email from a bammer that wasn't very nice.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Eddie,

I've had the same thing said to me by him as well. Steve isn't a big fan of discussion about the past.

    "My arm feels like Jell-O."

A line common to Rick Vaughan and Chris Todd.

  155. Luv...

He's being funny. He's said it about 20 times now.

Who is being funny? Jay G or mrtommyd?

    I don't read the entire blog, so I haven't seen it 20x

  158. funny how? like ha-ha funny? like he's a clown? how is he funny?

    ReplyDelete
  159. Hmm, I seem to have developed a reputation for beating up people. That is not my intention. I intend to suck up to a couple of you because I hope you replace Finebaum some day and I may want an autograph.

    ReplyDelete
  160. And I do like discussing the past. I am just a good Auburn man and I don't trash other good Auburn folks.

    ReplyDelete
  161. And that 1986 Cotton Bowl was horrible. It is what happens when you run the wishbone and you can't run the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  162. haha funny not funny strange

    ReplyDelete
  163. Sensi - I'm with you, bring on Barry. Also, I made the trip to the '86 Cotton Bowl. My claim to fame there was that Aundray thought my version of whatever Stevie Wonder song I happened to be singing at the time was "alright".

    ReplyDelete
  164. I guess I'm not a good Auburn man.

However, I also wouldn't call anything that I have posted as trashing anyone good Auburn folks.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Sensi,

At least Todd hasn't been reduced to throwing Nerf footballs like Brandon Cox was before the 2005 or 2006 season.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Hmmm, hope I didn't trash you RK.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Here is a good read on the what the SEC is trying to do to Media Coverage:

    SEC Media Policy

  168. I also tend to hope that Auburn fans will set a higher standard than Bama fans. No, I don't want to look down on them. That is wrong. I prefer that they look up to us.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Anonymous12:50 PM

    RK, good point.

Though, I kinda miss ole Brandon sometimes.

Anyone know what he's doing these days?

    ReplyDelete
  170. Brandon is a player that a lot of fans didn't really respect until he was gone. Except for the 2005 season when he was healthy for the most part, he wasn't very good. However he was a tough kid, who was a leader and the 2008 team missed him far more than we thought they would.

I know I can count myself in the group that gained a lot of respect for him after he was gone.

    ReplyDelete
  171. I wish we still had Cox. No, he didn't have the strongest arm, but he was a clutch player typically. He did have a few games where he just blew up, like UGA.

My take is that all our QBs, including Sweeney Todd, have a stonger arm than Cox had. Cox had what I would call an adequate arm.

My big knock on Cox wasn't his arm strength but that, at times, he didn't know when to throw the ball away.

    ReplyDelete
  172. re: THT thing.

Some goofball spammer emailed me and mocked me for some content included in the THT's Auburn Minute. I explained that it's called the THT's Auburn Minute because THT writes it.

    He still didn't get it.

So I created an official explanation to help dude understand the situation.

    ReplyDelete
  173. RK- You can throw me in the crowd too. I was upset when I saw that Todd was wearing #12 last year to open up the season, but I now missed the original #12.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Anonymous12:56 PM

Remember how Tuberville told us all Auburn would win a championship and we "could write that down."

    Did any of you?

If so, I'd like to suggest a way to mail that to him.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Jay, have you experienced issues like the link Eddie posted where someone videos your interview and puts it on the net before your story runs? I can imagine that would be very irritating.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Call me a Sensi Homer, but that is front page material there.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Anonymous12:57 PM

Jay G. and the hate mail. I bet you have stories...

    ReplyDelete
  178. Eddie, you are a Sensi Homer.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Cox did hold on to the ball too long at times and took a beating because of it and his lack of arm strength caused his deep attempts to just hang up in the air too long. We haven't had a deep ball completed to a WR in stride in 4 or 5 years.

I'll also never be able to understand his back to back games vs UGA that totaled 8 INT's.

    ReplyDelete
  180. To me, Jay has won the best front page quote of the year contest with the current quote about how McCalebb fits in. We should all feel humbled to be in the presence of greatness. I still giggle a bit when thinking about it.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Steve- I do what is necessary to keep the Podcast rolling, even if it means lying.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Anyone else having Roundtable connection trouble?

    ReplyDelete
  183. RK, Kodi actually had about a 50 yard completion against MSU a couple of years ago. It is the longest pass I can remember in recent memory.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Anonymous1:02 PM

I'd like to buy the world a Coke and have it sing in harmony.

Then, I'd like to collect those written guarantees and include them in the last payment to Tuberville with the following note:

Thanks a lot. Thanks for straight up lying to us all. And holding the fan base hostage while you duck hunted. And for stock piling "character" recruits. Thanks for switching/not switching to the spread. Thanks for saying your were more Auburn than all of us and then "quitting" in the midst of recruiting season.
    Signed, Auburn fans

    ReplyDelete
  185. Mon- I've had 740am connection problems most of the day. It's dead for me now.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Tuberville was a good Auburn man and deserves a lot of credit for giving Auburn one of the greatest decades in school history. I really don't want to start this discussion again, but we have discussed how the issues are Auburn involved more than the coaches or even the athletic department.

    ReplyDelete
  187. I remember Kodi hitting a 50+ yard pass to Rod Smith vs New Mexico State, but Smith had to stop to get the ball, then start running again.

    ReplyDelete
  188. Anonymous1:18 PM

Tommy Tuberville was to Auburn what Bill Clinton was to the U.S.A.

Tons of prosperity during the term, but near the end, lots of turmoil and a wake mess left in the aftermath.
