Days to kickoff: 25

Our Tar Heel Tiger's Auburn Minute* is brought to you by the number:

25

*=FOR THE ANONYMOUS EMAILER WHO GOES BY "MIKE PRICELESS": The following post was written by Tar Heel Tiger, who is an esteemed member of our community. I, Jay G. Tate, did not write the following passage. If the previous two sentences don't sufficiently convey the fact that Tar Heel Tiger wrote this piece, please contact me again. Perhaps I can call you on the phone and read to you. Polysyllabic words can be tricky in print.

Roy Haynes "Monk" Gafford, Jr. was born in 1920; he was a native of Fort Deposit, Ala. Monk was a three-year starter at halfback and was the very first Auburn back to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season.

He was recognized by the Touchdown Club of Atlanta as the SEC Player of the Year in 1941 and achieved All-American honors in 1942. The Birmingham Quarterback Club named Gafford as its 1942 SEC Player of the Year; in my biased opinion they showed a little better judgment than the national voters, who gave Heisman Trophy honors in 1942 to Georgia's Frankie Sinkwich.

Monk Gafford's most famous game was in 1942 against Sinkwich's top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs, a team which also included future All-American Charlie Trippi. Georgia had beaten Florida 75-0, a team which had beaten Auburn 6-0. The Dawgs outweighed the Auburn team by an average of over 20 lbs/man. Unequivocally, the best player on the field that day was neither Sinkwich nor Trippi, but our very own Monk Gafford. Auburn's #25 had 119 yards rushing on 21 carries, and added another 92 yards on three punt returns in leading Auburn to the stunning 27-13 upset.

For his Auburn career, Monk averaged a lofty 6.4 yards per carry. LSU coach Bernie Moore called Gafford "the best back the SEC had seen in the last 10 years." (1942 was the 10th year of the SEC).

Immediately following college, Gafford entered the Army in service to his country during World War II. He was the first officer with men taking over the infamous Dachau prison camp. As soon as the war was over, Monk served as player/coach of the Army's European Theater Operations championship football team. General George Patton proclaimed Monk Gafford the best back he'd ever seen.

After the war, Gafford spent a few years in the All-American Football Conference, the first with the Miami Seahawks and two subsequent seasons with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He went on to a business career in Tulsa, Okla., before returning to his native state for retirement. Monk Gafford was elected to the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 1985.

HONORABLE MENTION:

* One of my favorites, HB/DB Tommy Lorino, from the '57 National Champs

* FB Wallace Clark in the late '60s.

* DB Roger Mitchell: He blocked the first kick against UA-T in 1972...no, not the punt, the extra point after UA-T's first TD, thus providing Auburn's eventual 17-16 margin of victory. I never get tired of watching him hurdle an upright Bisceglia on the 2nd punt block play.

* HB Tim Jessie, an outstanding back who was understandably overshadowed by Bo & Brent.

  1. JG, Wallace Clark & Tommy Lorino are in the wrong spots. Clark was from '72 & Lorino was from '57.

  2. Now it gets interesting from 24 down! Should be fun to see THT's list. We are almost 3 weeks away from football. AWESOME!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Edie-Who are your final two for QB after this scrimmage?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Random question, but is Ian Fitzsimmons off of the Roundtable in Birmingham? His bio is still on the website, but I haven't heard him in two to three weeks. Of course I have been at the beach, so haven't been around much.

    Inquiring minds want to know...

    ReplyDelete
  5. WTC- I say Caudle and Rollison and I'm serious. But Gus did leave the door open for a 3rd guy to still "technically" be in the mix and that would be Chris Todd. I think you may see Kodi looking to transfer out of Auburn before the season begins to either play at a lower division right away or to another D1 school to Redshirt and be good to play 2 more years. That's my thoughts on the QB race.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Rollison and Caudle will be the finalists.

I'm not Eddie but I like to interject. Excuse me.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Eddie, great minds...

    ReplyDelete
  8. Fitzsimmons is no longer on the show Cincy, at least that's what i've heard.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Exactly Sean...great minds.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I say Todd is in there.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I hear that Todd knows the offense better than most and will make 2 to 3 throws that are just great and then follows it up with 2-3 throws that are just completely off. Anyword on his arm strength Jay G? I've heard that it doesn't seem to be quite 100% and it is affecting his confidence in getting the ball down the field.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Eddie,
What have you done to lose so much weight - and if you say "I just quit eating chocolate and ice cream" I'll kick your tail!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Cincy- Excercise mainly and learning what I could and couldn't eat and the portion control. Getting on the scale every single day keeps you honest and let's you know if you are doing well on a daily basis. I was very strict from Monday to Thursday and more relaxed on the diet on the weekends.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well, I'm very impressed. Anyone who can lose over 100 pounds in a year is pretty special in my book. Guess I have put off exercise long enough for this morning - off to do booty camp! Wish it was as exciting as it sounds.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Thanks Cincy! Enjoy Booty Camp!

    ReplyDelete
  16. as much as i hate getting up early like i have the past 2 weeks to run with Tucker it has really made a difference. i exercise regularly anyways, but i can really tell. i feel kinda lazy, though, b/c my cap is 3 miles. i used to run 6 all the time....10 years ago. i need to channel my inner 'El Toro' and go full speed all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Scottie- For some reason I see you as another Terry Tate- Office Linebacker if you go full speed like el Toro does.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Terry Tate is the man. i need to YouTube him.

it's funny, but when i'm out there running and hating going up those hills i'm thinking "my Auburn Tigers are working MUCH harder than this so shut up whiny boy." it hasn't quite helped me stop whining yet but i'm trying.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Running, can't do it anymore. I ran track and cross country in high school for 3 years. Now the thought of running for an extended period of time gives me shin splints.

    ReplyDelete
  20. YOUR BREAK WAS OVER 15 MINUTES AGO!

    ReplyDelete
  21. i would much rather lift weights, but Tucker doesn't get much out of it. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Friggin' hilarious. I had totally forgotten about Terry Tate.

    ReplyDelete
  23. mornin.. keep it coming tht,,,,

for Todd it is all about the arm...if he is not #1 he will never be #2 since it would be the arm keeping him from the top. If I was CGM I would groom next in line rather than spend time on a senior.

IT is do or Die for CT .. no such thing as #2 for him

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thanks ehyou, that was great.

    ReplyDelete
  26. dang, i'm a thread killer!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Terrible Terry Tate ... the father of Eltoro Freeman?

I've got meetings for a while.

    Stay substantial, HOTTIES!

    ReplyDelete
  28. ^ Still pondering Matt's earlier statement

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think it is Todd and Rollinson.

    ReplyDelete
  30. My guess at the final two are Todd and Caudle. It would be nice to see Caudle be the man. Supposedly he is a great runner too, although since he has had surgery on both his knees, I wonder how excited he would be to run.

I will stick with Todd being the guy, but if it turns out being Caudle, it would be a great surprise.

Regardless of who it is, I hope they do have someone in mind as the starter for next season.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Actually Wallace Clark was 1968-70.

sorry about the lack of punctuation, I went to a new line for each, but lack of punctuation and caps made it hard to decipher...

One of my favorites, FB Wallace Clark.
From the '57 National Champs: HB/DB Tommy Lorino.
From the '72 Amazin's: DB Roger Mitchell - He blocked the first kick against UA-T in 1972...no, not the punt, the extra point after UA-T's first TD, thus providing Auburn's eventual 17-16 margin of victory. I never get tired of watching him hurdle an upright Bisceglia on the 2nd punt block play.
From the '80s: HB Tim Jessie, an outstanding back who was understandably overshadowed by Bo & Brent.

    ReplyDelete
  32. sorry THT. looks like i incorrectly corrected the incorrection.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Eddie,

I know you've probably stated before, but how did you drop 109 in a year? That's just amazing.

I need to drop about 30, looks like I need to follow the Eddie Hollywood Diet.

    Happy Martavious Houston day.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Eddie re: 7:53 post. I think there's still one very well deserved but surprising pick in about exactly one week that most of Hotties wouldn't be able to guess. I think all the others are reasonably obvious.

    ReplyDelete
  35. RK- Excercise and diet for the first 6 months and then it became a lifestyle change that has been a breeze to keep up with. I have the opposite problem now, trying not to lose any more weight and stay where i'm at so that I don't look like i'm on an african adopt-a-child commercial.

THT- 18...hmmm. I'll get back to you on that. Ryan Hooker :)!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm off the the Georgia Aquarium Topping Off Party. Catch you all later!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I need to drop back down to the 200 range, I've gotten pretty lazy over the past year.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm one of the lucky few who has genetics on my side. Eat - or don't eat.... I won't waver more than 5 lbs either way off of 165. Been that weight sinse my college days.

    LT

    ReplyDelete
  39. Well, I'd rather run two hours on the elliptical than do Booty Camp again. That just about did me in!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Loganville, please forgive me for hating you.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm most comfortable in the 190-200 range.

When I was in college I got down to a somewhat ripped 165, but that took too much effort.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have added a new intro to the THT pieces:

*=FOR THE ANONYMOUS EMAILER WHO GOES BY "MIKE PRICELESS": The following post was written by Tar Heel Tiger, who is an esteemed member of our community. I, Jay G. Tate, did not write the following passage. If the previous two sentences don't sufficiently convey the fact that Tar Heel Tiger wrote this piece, please contact me again. Perhaps I can call you on the phone and read to you. Polysyllabic words can be tricky in print.

    ReplyDelete
  43. pollysyllabic! wow, you're some kind of word genius

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm quite certain "Mike Priceless" is not.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I really enjoy THT's Moments. I'm hysterical about history.

    ReplyDelete
  46. i was a martavious houston fan. The 97 Bama game when he cause that fumble was my first IB as a student

    ReplyDelete
  47. No love for Ronnie Daniels? He was the one weapon we had in 99 (if you don't count undersized RBs galore). The memory of him beating up on the DB on his way to the end zone against UGA is a favorite of mine. Later he dunked over the goal post and TT went ballistic.

    ReplyDelete
  48. ronnie daniels played for Huntsville's arena league team when I lived up there. Those games were fun to go to

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anyone heard what the deal is with Aubry Phillups?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Just wanted to give Ronnie a shout out, Monk Gafford deserves top billing but if we are going to mention M. Houston....

Never understood why RD nor Tim Carter (for that matter) didn't do better at the next level.

Speaking of favorite WRs, Frank Sanders is supposedly signed on to JOX here in bammerham for a TBD role (roving host perhaps). I was hoping they'd get rid of the other idiot who ruined the noonish time slot alongside Ian F and let Frank and the prerequisite bammer hold down that slot.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Great job THT and JGT, as usual
    Blake will play this year.
Is Kodi really out of the race? Hard to believe but watching what little we can see on videos his mechanics are still off.
Todd does not look as smooth as one would expect. Arm still not 100% who knows.

    ReplyDelete
  52. i got an email about an hour ago that said my season tickets had shipped. that was nice. real nice.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I was just reading about the Cotton Bowl possibly jumping over the Capital One Bowl in the SEC pecking order. There is also the possibility of the Gator Bowl joining the SEC line-up. I can provide links, if anyone is interested.

    ReplyDelete
  54. This just in - Digger projects Blake Field as starting QB.

    ReplyDelete
  55. the Gator Bowl would be cool. AU has some good history there. Shug's last bowl team won the Gator led by All-American Mike Fuller in '73. :)

plus, it would be a new place to travel to for the holidays.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Was the Priceless poster the one that was deleted?

I have a few rumors but because it is medical I will not list them here. It was non-football related and anyone one of us can have it occur just out of the blue. It happened int he athletic complex and (from what I was told) and they are being very cautious with him. He may be back shortly though. (From what I hear)

    ReplyDelete
  57. The Gator Bowl would be cool. It's funny that this just came up, as my dad and I had a big conversation about AU's history in the Gator Bowl just a couple of weeks ago. AU went there 3 of 5 bowl seasons in the early 70's. We beat Ole Miss with Archie Manning, then Colorado, then Texas with Earl Campbell.

    ReplyDelete
  58. THT, I like your teaser on the highlighted Tiger in one week. That would be number 18.
Racking my brain for an 18... Randy Walls, Foster Christy ?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Ronney Daniels against UGa was a truly fantastic game. He definitely deserves a big shout out!

My dad and I were at the Gator Bowls vs Archie (I think his left arm was still in a cast?) and vs the Buffalos. We didn't make the one after the '74 season.

Archie's 159 yd scramble (I think it netted about 50 yds) is still the play I remember most about the first one. The Buffalo getting loose during pre-game is what I remember about the 2nd one.

JGT - am I in trouble with Mike Priceless?

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  61. Aubie - you're going to have to think outside the box...and do a little research.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Big Bird,

Tim Carter wasn't tall enough and didn't run the best routes to be a big time player in the NFL.

Daniels was a little of the same, but he also only had one good year under his belt, then dropped off the map in 2000.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hotties - I'm out for a while. Catch y'all later this afternoon.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Article on Jay Ratliff from Star-Telegram.com:

    Ratliff

    ReplyDelete
  65. Jay, are you saying that because is says "Tar Heel Tiger's Auburn Minute" that doesn't mean JGT wrote this? Hmmm, I do think you need to make that clear by putting it in a bold italic font. It should also probably be in RED. Also, you may want to have the text blinking. Just to make sure it catches someone's attention, you might also have arrows pointing to it, animated arrows would be best.

You also might want to include it on the first line of the blog so everyone will see it. Oh, you did that. Hmmm.

Well, you obviously didn't make it clear because you only included it in English. Please include Spanish, French, and Latin translations. Why Latin? What if the Pope visits the page?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Blake Fiel is still waiting on the sideline saying hey coach put me in.
    Very patient man this Field.

    ReplyDelete
  67. After mopping up the homecoming game, Blake Field is the definite number two ahead of Kodi Burns.

    ReplyDelete
  68. on which campus is this Field/Burns combo going to take place?

    ReplyDelete

Wow...Mr. Blake..and humble kid with a great pedigree and trainable.

Mr. Priceless probably understands "North Alabama Trailerpark-ese". Not sure that vernacular can be put in print though.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I guess Daniels and Carter were some of the first WRs to get "Knoxed". They got worse the longer the were in the program.

Onward and upward I guess we have Trooper now so I hope we are better able to develop going forward.

Kidding aside, Blake Field was probably our best option (based on the one game I saw him play-homecoming 07) for last year but he saw the writing on the wall and skeedaddled.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Prattville and Hoover ranked 12th and 41st nationally, according to Rivals' pre-season high school football poll.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Anybody know where the thread defibrillator is?

    ReplyDelete
  74. dunno. whoever killed the thread must've took it with them.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Scott, how dare you kill our blog! Go sit in the corner.

    ReplyDelete
  76. My season tickets are on the FedEx truck for delivery. I called my daughter and told her she better answer the door when the bell rings!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Wait a @#$%$%#^ minute. Jay G Tate hasn't been writing the Auburn minute counting down the days to kickoff?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  78. The only thing I can call a 'medical episode' is getting the thingie stuck in the fly.

    ReplyDelete
  79. mrmytommyd...
We're all shocked. This one's gonna take a while to heal.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I knew I shouldn't have left the defibrillator in that bottom file cabinet drawer! Glad somebody found it.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I'm waiting to have my rear-deck speakers replaced. I blew one out playing N.W.A. yesterday. I feel young again!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Just got word D'Antoine Hood has a high ankle sprain..more injuries.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Wait a second, I thought I was writing these Auburn Minute posts. Are you telling me these posts aren’t actually a loose translation of some of the nonsense I have posted here? Seems like a mighty big coincidence.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I'm with Eddie. Curious about how young Mosely is doing though. Any word on that?

I said earlier this summer that I pegged Kodi to transfer. Wouldn't surprise me at all. Todd is working on his coaching career at this point. JMO

Tyrik the Tyrifik ... that is all.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Got a few more emails from "mike priceless". He said we have a "cliquish" blog here, which makes me wonder how he misinterpreted the THT minute when he uses big words like cliquish.

    ReplyDelete
  86. afternoon,

    1. Yes, yes, the tickets are in route. Wife and I are excited we requested new seats this year, so we will see what we get.

    2. Anyone watch the CSS flashback game last night? It was Ole Miss vs. UGA, Tubbs and crew were at the helm, 1996. Great game, but it waa funny to see the old coaches. I barely recognized Tubbs, he had dark hair. I guess like the presidency it greys you out.

    3. Nice articles abound so far about the team, but until we get closer and play a game I have no clue. Last year burnt me forever. Since last season, I really never ever will know how we do. Last year was the oddest year ever.

    4. Qb's, yea, weird but we only lose Todd next year. So lets say is the starter this year. Then next year we start this race all over again, same numbers because Trotter will be back from his ACL. If that happens it will be nausating. I like knowing who the guy is going to be.

    ReplyDelete
  87. PDWT...
I was flipping last night, caught a shot of Tubb's back and knew it was him by the way he was standing. I stopped and watched the 4th qtr of a very good game. It's gonna be weird seeing someone besides him patrolling the sideline.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Okay, where do I sign up to be a member of this cliq thing. As you all know I always just agree with everything that goes on and am an All American at sucking up.

As for the scrimmage, I like seeing that the coaches have basically told the QBs it is time to step up or sit down. It sounds a bit cruel, but that is the kind of pressure QBs must be able to handle.

One of the more interesting things is that they will be rotating 4 QBs in the scrimmage. Kodi didn't react too well to rotating last season. He always seemed to need to be in for a while to get a rhythm. This doesn't bode well for him and Eddie is probably spot on when he anticipates Kodi transferring.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Steve...

All invitations to the clique have been mailed out. If you didn't get one.....sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Dang gummit!!! Any possibilities of a gang or mob forming? Let me know.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I am having a serious surge of bama hate today. I'm not sure why, but it's here, it's real and it's scary.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Mon...

I think you OD'd on Trooper last night.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I still don't believe in hating Bambis. It is kind of like hating the kids riding the short bus. I do not hate. I do laugh, though.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I think that put me on edge, ehyou. I think being SO dismissed by some bamaers has sent me over the edge.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Steve - don't make me come over there

    ReplyDelete
  96. Bad thunderstorms all afternoon up here in SW VA. Any word on the weather down around the plains and how it may effect our scrimmage?

    ReplyDelete
  97. The threat of storms rises at about 7 but for the 5 and 6 o'clock hours Auburn should be clear.

    ReplyDelete
  98. The typical Bama fan is oxymoronic: how can you be both low class and snobbish?

    ReplyDelete
  99. ehyou, it's a fearful, insecure arrogance. that's why they are so vicious.

    ReplyDelete
  100. boknowsbo - does your employment have anything to do with the Virginia Creeper trail? Some friends and I went up there and rode it a few years ago - lots of fun.

    ReplyDelete
  101. "Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

Got a few more emails from "mike priceless". He said we have a "cliquish" blog here"

Cliquish? There are about 70 peops in the RoF, Feeling the Heat, and Notable Newcomers. Yes, it is really hard to penetrate this clique!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Hmmm, how was it that old saying goes? Don't hate the players, hate the game? Hmmm, now it is don't hate the players or hate the game, hate the fans? This is getting terribly confusing.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Very interesting comment michael, but you know all members of the ROF are in the clique and know the secret handshake.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Take heart Jay. Apparently you irritated Mike Priceless. You know what that means. You accomplished something today. Congratulations!!!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Dang.......Suddenly I feel like an outsider not knowing the secret hand shake and all......

    ReplyDelete
  106. What happens to all those potential ROF folks that dont have hands, are they not allowed do become part of the ring?

    ReplyDelete
  107. To join our clique the first thing you do is not diss the clique. What a goob.

Why doesn't UAT have a blog for their team? I think they do, it is AL.com.

    ReplyDelete
  108. The first rule of clique?

    ReplyDelete
  109. Has everyone gotten an email about their tickets being mailed? I haven't :(

    ReplyDelete
  110. Rule#1 Don't tell anyone about the clique

    ReplyDelete
  111. Rule #2 DO NOT TALK ABOUT THE CLIQUE

    ReplyDelete
  112. Rule #3 - Profit.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Someone told priceless about the clique

    ReplyDelete
  114. Not that I'm questioning The Queen/Thigh Master, but if I remember correctly Rule #3 is If you go limp you're out of the clique.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Cincy, my tickets have been safely delivered to the house!!!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Kathy,
How exciting! Makes it feel like football is really coming. I wish I would hear something on my tickets. I think mine may be delivered by USPS priority. Maybe they haven't gone out yet?

    ReplyDelete
  117. Nicely played, Michael.

    ReplyDelete
  118. You're out of something anyway...

I give myself a secret handshake everyday...I don't need no stinking clique.

    ReplyDelete
  119. What clique?

That's all I'm going to say, I deny any existence of a clique.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Careful j-z you'll go blind

    from what I've heard

    ReplyDelete
  121. the existence of this blog disproves that

    ReplyDelete
  122. mrtommyd, so if your other tiger eye disappears, we'll know what happened.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Anonymous Emailer spammed me for two years or so. He finally stopped earlier this year, but I guess he's back because he feels the HABOTN love and cannot turn away.

He also doesn't like "HOTTIES" because he doesn't understand why grown men would be called that.

I guess he's glossing over our esteemed and cherished female members. I find that disgraceful.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Mr. Chocolate,

You are in rare form today!

    Got any Auburn chocolate left?

    ReplyDelete
  125. Cincy, my tickets were shipped via FedEx. It definitely feels like football now that I have tickets in hand.

    ReplyDelete
  126. MONICA's handle and WAR EAGLE GIRL's handle and KATHY's handle should be easy enough to understand ...

    ReplyDelete
  127. just noticed you can't see my hands either... wow.

    ReplyDelete
  128. "esteemed and cherished" now don't I feel special

    ReplyDelete
  129. even if you can't tell by my handle that I am female :)

    ReplyDelete
  130. Don't forget Michael, as the queen of the HABOTN

    ReplyDelete
  131. Embrace the Hate!

    ReplyDelete
  132. Cincy, it must be football fever!

Yep, still got some AU chocs. As mentioned previously, 1/2 price through 9/5.

tommyd, must be tough to do that with paws. Keep the claws retracted!

    ReplyDelete
  133. I know at least one grown man that enjoys his title of Queen of HABOTN. I wonder was Anonymous Emailer thinks about that! (I wonder what my mother would think about that...)

    ReplyDelete
  134. cincy, i hope you guys had a good meal, didn't get to come check on you because of the way we filled up the place in 25 minutes. Hope you enjoyed and it was nice to meet you and your wonderful family.

  135. Not as difficult as you would think, scott. Atleast not as difficult as I think I would tell you it would be ... I think.

  136. I'm looking forward to hearing Coach Dye's comments today on Fbaum.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Oh my gosh, BinOBA, you made me quite the hit with my family. They LOVED the food, and the atmosphere.

I would love to have more of that wonderful tomato basil soup or the crab claws or the chicken roulade or the awesome seafood pasta. It was all wonderful and is definitely on our list of "must dos" on our yearly beach trip.

It is a definite for any of you Hotties visiting Orange Beach.

  138. Bin...

What's the name of your work establishment? (if you don't mind me asking)

    ReplyDelete
  139. Maybe we'd better go back to j-z's 1:47 post and implement the 1st rule of secret solo handshakes.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I know I sound like an advertising agency, but for those of you in B'ham, you need to try out Scott Chocolate's Auburn chocolates. I bought my kids chocolate CD's with the Auburn fight song printed on them (they come in CD cases, very cool) and AU suckers with Aubie on them. I also bought my husband a Auburn football field in dark chocolate, big, too, almost life sized! And like Monica said earlier, the white chocolate is delish!!

I'm going by to pick up more for our first tailgate.

  141. I have a secret gesture ready for UAT.

  142. Coach Dye looks rough. Who are the women in the studio with him????

    ReplyDelete
  143. I got my email today about the tickets and clicked on Fedex to track them. They say no one was at home to sign so they will come back Wedneday. I amy have to take off work Wednesday.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Boy, you're shooting for an extra big commission check this month, Cincy! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  145. wtc,
If Fedex is anywhere convenient to you, you can go by and pick them up this evening. Unless you just want to take the day off tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Just speaking truth, SC.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Scott Chocolate, you got it. I manage an outdoor outfitter / bike rental and sales shop in Damascus.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Dye has looked pretty rough for a while now.

What does he have to say today?

    ReplyDelete
  149. I'm ready to start a counter-HABOTN-culture clique, if the anonymous e-mailer wants to join.

    ReplyDelete
  150. nothing of substance to this point

    ReplyDelete
  151. Jet will you turn on your Yahoo please? I have a question.

  152. Hotties - emergency trip to Phiiadelphia. I just learned MissTHT has not bothered to get her travel Visa. The consul we have to go to is in Philadelphia and they are only open MWF a.m. I can't wait til tomorrow to find out if there's still time to do it by mail (though I doubt it and there's NOTHING on their web site about TAT) because, in case there isn't time for mail, I can't go with her on Friday. MrsTHT would cut me if I let MissTHT go to Philadelphia alone, even though she is, at least theortetically, an adult.

Hope the remainder of your MONK GAFFORD DAY is a great one!!!

It's ROAD TRIP TIME! The good news? I'll be having my first Philly cheesesteak in about 10 years. It wouldn't surprise me if MissTHT planned it this way all along.

  153. JGT took the tactful verbal beat down to a new level today. I applaud you.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Mon, please let me know if Dye invites f-baum down to the "plantation" again.

    ReplyDelete
  155. lol I will be sure to relay that, Nugget.

He was just talking about the current coaches - he likes them - had nothing to do with Chizik's hire, etc. Nothing new or surprising.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Still pondering Matt's earlier point about blogs

    ReplyDelete
  157. Dye was excited when they hired "Gene." He thought Stallings was coming to Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Wow Jet. Just Wow.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I just like Dye's accent and the speed at which he talks.

well i like other things about him too, but those two in particular.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Nugget where are you from originally? I like his accent too.

    ReplyDelete
  161. boknowsbo - very cool. That sounds like a good gig. Scottie b and anyone else reasonably near Damascus, VA - you should check with bkb about riding this trail. It's pretty awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  162. I (heart) Coach Dye, TommyD.

Just a little joke at his expense.

    ReplyDelete
  163. i haven't been on my mountain bike in years. i used to tear it up in Tuskegee back in the day. feels so long ago.

  166. THT - when you are up at Philly, be sure to try Chili's authentic Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich.

    ReplyDelete
  167. i am from Daphne, Alabama. but now im in Atlanta. i like it, but it sure is home.

    ReplyDelete
  168. scottie b - doesn't matter how recently you rode. If you choose, you can rent a bike, have it trailered to the top of the mountain, and ride 17 miles downhill. You cross something like 39 old railroad trestles over the river on the way down.

    ReplyDelete
  169. No mountain bike for me but I do like me some good dirt bike trails. Took that back up a few years ago after +25 years off of a bike. Luckily here for me here in GA. we have excellent riding opportunities.

  170. *never, ever, will be

    ReplyDelete
  171. Did anyone else listen to Coach Dye's old "outdoors" show on Monday nights just to hear him talk? I didn't even care about the subject matter but he had some good guests (like Ted Nugent who surprising still held a good natured grudge over the 83 Sugar Bowl) that made for good radio.

    ReplyDelete
  172. seems kinda cheap if someone rides the bike to the top of the hill for you. my poor Treks looks so lonely hanging in my garage.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Wow, Fairhope to Atlanta is a big drop. I love Fairhope and used to really enjoy the artshow at the Grand and Punta Clara's.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Priceless dude just needs to look at me to figure out that it's not cliquish here. Most people don't like me, yet I'm somehow still marginally accepted.

On a side note, I just spent $300+ on bow ties. Please shoot me.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Scottie B, you can get down this trail on anything but a true road bike. Old logging railway turned bike trail. Incredibly scenic, in fact, people come from all over the country to ride it.

    www.adventuredamascus.com

shameless plug. big woop, wanna fight about it?

    ReplyDelete
  176. should have been "surprisingly....

    ReplyDelete
  177. I've spent a day and evening at Coach Dye's place. He is awesome, the place is awesome, the whole daggum experience was awesome.

    That's funny Michael.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Joining Louis Farrakhan's clique are you there Peter?

    ReplyDelete
  179. Dye is great. How many guys could claim they lost their pants and everyone believe it. Heck, how many guys would admit to losing their pants?

    ReplyDelete
  180. Steve, it's not so much he admitted it as someone found them.

If someone finds a pair of my pants 20 years from now on a bottom of a lake, I will for sure be proud of it.

    ReplyDelete
  181. When I hear Bow Ties - I think Farraknan.. Weird association for me.

    ReplyDelete
  182. yeah, Daphne is a touch closer to Atlanta, but not much. there were some other stops before atl but i am slowly workin my way back home....hopefully. i have a pretty good thing going right now here though, good job, Auburn is an hour and a half away, and home is only a few hours further.

    ReplyDelete
  183. I could quite easily lose a pair of pants at a lake. I have taken the trash down to the street many times in my underwear at my current house (after dark, of course). I can't imagine what all I'd do without pants if I were at a lakehouse.

    ReplyDelete
  184. cool like BoKBo. looks fun. me & the wife need to get away for some non-football fun. maybe next year.

$300 on bow ties? PF? seriously?

    ReplyDelete
  185. did you see the pants? i probably would have lost them too.

"hey i bet you buy a pair of pants* like this you get a free bowl of soup....looks good you though."

    * i know...its a hat.

    ReplyDelete
  186. I have pictures of you herding the sheep without your pants.

    ReplyDelete
  187. I see...he was known for his bow tie, wasn't he? I'm thinking more Ticker Carleson...wait, same thing.

I like how I can spill Jack Daniel's on my shirt, but it doesn't get on the tie when I'm wearing a bow tie. I figure I'm saving money that way.

    ReplyDelete
  188. PF, Please tell me the bow ties are for your impending nuptials.

I've lost many, many things at the lake. I'll leave it at that. Micheal, you scared to take the trash out in broad daylight? My neighbors wouldn't know what to do if they saw me with pants on before 8 am.

    ReplyDelete
  189. There's that smell again.

    ReplyDelete
  190. J-Z, is that the official KOS pic?

    ReplyDelete
  191. Nobody else smells that?

    ReplyDelete
  192. As official as you're going to get from me.
