First Post: Sunday of Week Three

Hey everyone. Thanks to Kristina and "Earl" for providing a swell tailgate spot on Saturday morning. I'm still amazed at all the tailgate technology people own and understand. Getting satellite television in a field via generator may be common, but it never ceases to amaze me.

Auburn looked very good last night. The team scored 49 and I thought they weren't all that efficient. The defense allowed 10 points during a second-quarter mess, but seemed stout throughout the first, third and fourth quarters.

Will teams with better defensive coordinators and faster players be able to undermine the Tigers' attack? I'm starving for answers to that question.

Here's the Auburn situation at this moment:

  3. Thanks, THT.

Sorry I missed you at the pre-LTU tailgate.

  4. JayGT- I'm starved for the same answers. I'm not quite ready to put AU in the BCSNCG. I want to see how they hold up over 11 consecutive weeks against increasingly difficult competition.

MrsTHT and I, and possibly Lord Byron (if we can drag him away from futbol on the tube) will be attending WVU game.

  5. If you haven't seen Miller's youtube poem and rap on the previous thread, you need to go take a look. Funny stuff.

  6. off topic, ok, waaaayyyyy off topic... but I was wondering if Michael was involved in this research

Gang, no matter how dysfunctional your family or situation may be, seeing people hurting is a terribly humbling experience.

I am glad Auburn won. It is nice to see a crushing run game. Passing, eh who needs it. Can we start a collection to chip in and keep Malzhan for a while. I understand he will need to strike whenhcan, but he's been a breath of air. Hats off to Roof and Chizik for actually having a defense in spite of the depth issues.

  9. My Sony Bravia 47" HD TV is on the blink, and I can't get my AU replay fix this a.m. :-(

I'm passing along the HABOTN link to my sister. I told her all about you peeps. She's not as football savvy as I am, but I'm definitely not as witty as she is. She has no fear of blogging. She's been doing it for years!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Welcome Kathy's sister!!!! WAR EAGLE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I wonder if the HABOTNistas were subjects for this research project

    ReplyDelete
  12. THT, it's too early for her. We didn't get to my house until 2:00 and then she had another 20 minute drive. I'm sure she is still sleeping. She was walking around Auburn yesterday yelling "Hottie Hooooooo!!!" She doesn't care if people look at her strangely. I don't, either.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Kathy: I'm sorry for your loss.

I kiss my LG 42" on most days. We embrace, whisper sweet nothings, occasionally wink at each other. It's love.

    ReplyDelete
  14. War Eagle Everyone.

I stopped by Kristina's tailgate a little too late, and everyone was gone, but I did meet her husband, Kirby, breifly.

    ReplyDelete
  15. JayGT - that was funny!

I'm still waiting on my TV that was supposed to be delivered Aug 16. Latest update...end of this month. I'm not holding my breath.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Sensi,

I feel your pain...am in the same place myself.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sooooooo... I think this team has a pretty good chemistry goin'. Just sayin

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think Lee Ziemba specifically, and the rest of the OL generally had an outstanding performance this game.

I've been checking the replays where Ziemba is hustling 20 odd yards, to block for Fannin / McCalebb.

I'm very, very impressed. I think that is the biggest difference between 07/08 and this year.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Did I at any point actually eat the barrel that my bourbon came from yesterday? Because when I woke up this morning, my mouth damn sure tasted like I did.

Awesome game, amazing fellowship with the Hotties.

    ReplyDelete
  20. JUst great to be an Auburn Tiger

    ReplyDelete
  21. as always, DL, as always!

    ReplyDelete
  22. but perhaps just a bit greater!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Kathy, go to www.secdigitalnetwork.com to watch the game if your tv's out. it cuts out the commercials. entire game in 130 minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Onterio is fast...he chases squirrels!!
Chemistry is exactly what I see as well. They are clicking..playing together..WAR EAGLE!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I thought AU ran a play last night where Ziemba was lined up in the WR position. at the snap, two WR's went down field and he stood there jumping up as to say he was open while the QB rolled his way. The ball was thrown down field and completed. Tell me I wasn't seeing things.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Heading there now Scottie B. I did just was some video of Eltoro Freeman. He has some great things to say about the Gus. He loves football.

    ReplyDelete
  27. sorry about your tv issues THT, that's brutal.

i am having so much fun watching this offense. so hope it works against the big boys.

    ReplyDelete
  28. wtc, yes you did see that

    ReplyDelete
  29. Goldberg has a post-game interview by The Bull. Fun stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  30. my wife has taken over the dvr tv so i've got the game on right now while typing. :)

i got in from auburn at 5:30am ET. long nite. whew. sully decided to take a large dose of Dramamine yesterday while we were preparing to leave (he's 12 lbs) so Mrs. Scottie had to stay home to make sure was ok. no worries, though. he slept well.

  31. In one of his articles Josh Moon says we shouldn't be considered a contender yet. In the other, he says we should be in the conversation. It looks like Josh is going through a change of heart.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Bag must've been swayed by the rockin' hottie tailgate yesterday. ;)

    ReplyDelete

chasing squirrels is not a big deal, I can do that... the fact that he can catch the darn thing is what is incredible...

  34. win or lose .. the stats this O puts up does get noticed by the recruits... esp the running backs..

    ReplyDelete
  35. Kathy - I too have a Bravia. I saw on the other thread where your husband said he'd found a number of other reported issues. Mine's a 42" XBR LCD over my mantle, I'm having no issues whatsoever. I'm watching football on it right now.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Or perhaps the foul taste in my mouth is a byproduct of eating Kristina's Easy Cheese straight from the can. Either way, I'm headed to Lowe's for some sandpaper.

    ReplyDelete
  37. we just need a Dez Bryant kind of receiver to go with those RBs.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Not to be nit-picky, JayG, but the Defense itself gave up 10 points in second quarter. Special team gave up the rest.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I like this line from Goldberg:

Auburn scored seven offensive touchdowns in eight SEC games last season. The Tigers have six in one SEC game this year.

    Sweet to hear.

    ReplyDelete
  40. BenTerRio McTatIn.

That's my amalgamation of Ben Tate, Onterrio McCalebb and Mario Fannin.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Them Tigers are looking good! It's such a relief to be able to enjoy a game.

A passage from ESPN that put things into perspective a little: "Here’s the most telling stat about what the Tigers have done: They scored six offensive touchdowns against Mississippi State. A year ago, they scored a total of seven offensive touchdowns in eight SEC games."

War Damn Eagle!! And thanks for all the great info JGT!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Suave Z-Zhag moment ...

Deep in the second half, J-Zhag decides that he's parched ... nevermind that the Coke man has been by regularly.

In his inimitable way, he sweet talks a unnamed female HOTTIE into fetching him a Diet Coke. The unnamed female HOTTIE, utterly powerless to resist the J-Zhag charm, obliges.

While she walks down 21 rows of the upper deck to the concourse to faithfully stand in line to obtain the desired beverage, J-Zhag decides his thirst must be quenched now and helps himself to the female HOTTIE's bottle of water, polishing it off before her return.

The Most Interesting HOTTIE in the World -- J-Zhag.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Tell me it was just me......

Did we look like SEC contenders on certain series and then looked like we took series off?

My God - we had 550+ yards - but it still appeared to me some series were - well - less than hoped for?

I guess I still don't know who we are exactly.

    LT

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ahem... You missed the part where we figured out what happened there Jet. Ehyou brought me that bottle of water. The female Hottie who shall remain nameless left her bottle of water underneath her seat and forgot about it. She found it later.

This in no way excuses my behavior during the unfortunate popcorn incident.

    ReplyDelete
  45. AU got 26 votes in the AP this time. Just behind WVU. Still have to beat a few more teams to get any love, but I think I am pleased that AU has come this far.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I vote that we never mention the "bubble screen" play from last year again. That play will henceforth be known as "The Murano."

    ReplyDelete
  47. j-zhag - Jet was too busy with his communicator device to notice the true outcome of the "water incident".

    ReplyDelete
  48. Loganville ...

Offensively, we had 3-4 drops, and it looked like Todd's fundamentals slipped on a few throws. Other than that, we can't score on every possession.

Special teams were a mess, except for the one punt downed at the 1.

Defensively, yes. It looked like our focus slipped a few times. One play in particular, Zach Etheridge didn't hustle to line up on a 3rd and 7. He didn't cover the slot receiver, and State got an easy gain and it led to a touchdown.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I like my version better.

Bubble Screen = Murano? I likey.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'm watching the game on DVR ... A.C. just scored, and the Hunchback of Mississippi State seems bothered.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Bubble screens go for big yardage, sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hush up, Murano Man!

    ReplyDelete
  53. TD for Caddy. He looks incredible running the ball for TB.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Keep telling yourself that WTC.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Just fixed that, Aero. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Jet, any idea why Zachery doesn't get a look as punt-returner? Those fumbles are a disaster waiting to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  57. A Varsity Blues reference in Josh Moon's column? Fantastic. Does this mean we should start calling Malzahn's offense the Oopty-oop?

    One. Two. Three. Four. Five?

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'm at the point where I don't care if we ever get a yard on the return. I just want the ball safely in our hands so Gus can crank it up.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I got to watch it again too Jet - and see if my eyes decived me.

Don't get me wrong - I'll take last night over the 3-2, just didn't appear to me the focus was there from series to series.

I'm .Happy As Hell the we we have come out of the gate - ready for the next level.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm headed back to Auburn to see a family member. You guys have fun at my expense today. I'm over 40, I'm a man. I can take it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Loganville ...

Believe me, I'm happy as J-Zhag at a peanut butter cookie convention.

But to deal with what's ahead ... kindergarten's over, no more nap time.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Those were some damn fine peanut butter cookies.

    ReplyDelete
  63. WTC ...

If you see a bunch of "comments deleted," you'll know what happened.

    ReplyDelete
  64. J-Zhag ... I think I figured that out somewhere around your 19th cookie.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Someone on facebook just commented that J Moon looks like Vin Diesel. Seriously?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Was there a game yesterday?

    ReplyDelete
  67. still stuck working this show in ATL - just popping in to say War Eagle!

    ReplyDelete
  68. My TOP 3 and the distant others:

    1. Florida
    2. Texas
    3. USC
    4. BYU
    5. Oklahoma
    6. Alabama
    7. Penn State
    8. California
    9. TCU
    10. Ole Miss
    11. Boise State
    12. LSwho
    13. Virginia Tech
    14. Georgia Tech
    15. Ohio State
    16. Cincinnati
    17. Utah
    18. Oklahoma State
    19. Auburn
    20. Nebraska
    21. Miami (FL)
    22. Houston
    23. Kansas
    24. Georgia
    25. Michigan

    ReplyDelete
  69. We have actually run a few bubble screens this year, but the difference is that they aren't a third of our playbook and people actually believe we will pass the ball down field now.

Also notice that you never heard that MSU or LaTech were putting 8 or 9 in the box. How many times have we heard that over the years. These days, with this offense, I would look forward to someone trying to put 8 or 9 in the box.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I'm watching the Falcon game = What A Hi by Peterson...... Fumble rcovery by Atl.

    ReplyDelete
  71. THT, I would have to put Ohio State higher. Although they have demonstrated a great knack for losing big games, they were one stop away from beating USC.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I'm sure you would, SFC. But I hate them, and you don't. It was all I could do to keep thuhosu in the poll at all.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Scott chocolate Cincy had some of your Co's work and it was great everyone said it tasted great. I can not partake of a lot of surgar so I had one of her cookies and it was one of the best I have tasted.

    ReplyDelete
  74. plus, it was just a lot easier to put them in an empty slot than have to retype a whole bunch of others that are ahead of them. I think I pulled TCU out of 15 from the AP poll, so someone had to go there and thuhosu was the lucky victim.

    ReplyDelete
  75. THT ...

Thanks for the map, which I bookmarked, but never printed out.

    D'oh.

But we managed to find CincyT, and had a game of Cornhole that was a reminder of the 3-2 debacle of last year. That and J-Zhag ate a bunch of cookies.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Oh my goodness THT where are the Irish. Over rated again by the media?

    ReplyDelete
  77. I'm still as perplexed about how LSU will do this season as I am Auburn. The corndogs haven't looked impressive, plus they have a very difficult schedule. It wouldn't surprise me if they won the west, nor would it surprise me if they finish 4th or 5th.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Jet - no doubt you printed the map indelibly into that remarkable cerebrum you lug around. Why waste paper?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Nah THT. It is just that my opinion of how good a team is doesn't depend upon how much a like them.

    ReplyDelete
  80. mine either, SFC, that's why they are still ranked, as is UA-T.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Jet sorry I missed you and J-Z at Cincy's I went searching for Kristina and didn't ficd her,

    ReplyDelete
  82. very early weather forecast for Saturday:

    high 81, isolated thunderstorms

    ReplyDelete
  83. THT, I am starting to think LSU will be fourth in the west. I expected their defense to be much improved and apparently that isn't the case. I must say that I have only watched parts of their games, but that is my impression.

I am thinking we finish in the top half of the West. That is amazing considering where we were last season.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Afternoon HOTTIES!

It seems a grand day was had by all of you yesterday.

Hubby made an astute statement today based on years of research about Sunday mornings in the state of Georgia:

UGA wins and the church pews are overflowing, when the Dawgs lose like last week they are "no shows".

    ReplyDelete
  85. It's hard not to speculate on how our Tigers are going to do but I am sticking with one game at a time
Next up West Virginia I think we can take them but not easily.

    ReplyDelete
  86. That's because she was marauding with us Digger. We're evil like that.

And I'm glad I'm not the only one who appreciates a fine cookie.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I also am pretty confident that we will beat Arkansas now. Earlier I thought it was a toss up. Both of the teams we have played have better defenses than Arkansas, so that is bad news for Arkansas. I do think they will score some points though.

    ReplyDelete
  88. SteveFC - I think you may be right about LSwho. They are probably the most overrated team at the moment. I think the talent is there for them to be really good, but perhaps they will underachieve all season.

    ReplyDelete
  89. West Virginia worries me a bit, but we should be favored.

    ReplyDelete
  90. i really, REALLY would love for us to just totally stomp WVU. 56-3 would be dreamy.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I am going to repeat this evey thread I am on
Hotties please put up a small sign "HABOTN" Nothing big or fancy but with 30 or 40 tailgate parties in one square yard it is hard to find you.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I would like to see Spencer Pybus available for WV. Last year the reason we had issues with WV is our defense looked tired in the second half. Also, they were simply outrunning us on crossing routes.

    ReplyDelete
  93. i watched a good bit of Iowa State hosting Iowa on Saturday. I did not see a well-coached team in that stadium.

    ReplyDelete
  94. the 'cuse hosts lowly Northwestern on Saturday, the 3rd straight WTPOC opponent (Weak Ten plus one Conference). Is the 'cuse trying to play their way out of the Big Least?

    ReplyDelete
  95. One of the things that seems to have been overlooked from yesterday's game is the performance of Darvin Adams. Last season 116 yards receiving would have been typical of a lot of our receivers for the season.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Anonymous1:45 PM

    What was his injury?

    ReplyDelete
  97. Our d has typically been good as they have had to deal with an average O...

Now that the O is scoring,, i hope the D does not get slack...

    ReplyDelete
  98. Hello Hots!! I know it's only the second game but Auburn is the #2 offense in the country!

    Total Offense
    1 Florida 1287
    2 Auburn 1145
    3 Cincinnati 1142
    4 Kansas 1123
    5 Toledo 1117
    6 Texas 1100
    7 Houston 1050
    8 California 1049
    9 Hawaii 1041
    10 Utah 1018

    ReplyDelete
  99. THT I watched some of ISU as well and noticed a bit of a Franklinesque offense minus the anorexic OL. And it still didnt work

    ReplyDelete
  100. any guesses as to who the next Washington State coach will be? Surely their current coach won't last past this season. They are 0-2, getting stomped decisively at home both games. They have a 5 game stretch in the middle of the season that includes road games @USC, @Oregon, @Cal, and @Notre Dame.

I wonder if West Coast Al will get an interview.

    ReplyDelete
  101. "We are nowhere near where we are going to be as we move forward," said (Washington State Coach Paul) Wulff.

    Thank goodness.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I expect Borges to end up a head coach in the PAC10. He is a good coach and has the personality for it.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Yes, BigCat, the occasional meerkat offense by ISU was highly disturbing, as was their poor use of timeouts, highly inopportune and unsuccessful onside kick, etc etc. I wish Coach Paul Rhoads immense success at ISU, but at this point I don't expect it.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Thanks for the offensive ranking, BigCat. If this keeps up, Malzahn is going to be the most sought after coordinator in the country. Having Arkansas at 4th in offense, then Tulas in the top 2 two years in a row, and now Auburn near the top is incredible.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Who is the OC at Iowa State?

    ReplyDelete
  106. I found it. It is some guy named Tom Herman. Don't know him.

    ReplyDelete
  107. AU is 4th in Total Offense as judged by yds/game. Some teams have only played one game.

    Florida 643.5
    Texas A&M 606.0
    Arkansas 591.0
    Auburn 572.5
    Cincinnati 571.0

    our 43 ppg ranks 14th
our 345.5 ypg rushing is 2nd
    our 28 first downs/game is 8th
    our 53.8% 3rd down efficiency is 17th

    ReplyDelete
  108. La Tech had 2 turnovers? I know they threw one INT to Bates.

Yahoo shows La Tech with 2 TO vs AU, but also shows AU with 3 INTs for the season and no fumble recoveries.

Someone straighten this out for me.

I know we've had 2 turnovers on fumbles, and no INTs thrown thus far.

    ReplyDelete
  109. JZ, you may have eaten the cork in your state mistaking it for those PB cookies. (Which were outstanding btw.)

Jet's story is funnier the way he tells it. And there really is no excuse for the popcorn incident. I mean, who does that??

Eddie, Kirby said you came by. Sorry we missed you.

Digger, sorry we didn't see you. You could have picked up your HABOTN T which I have still failed to mail. SORRY!!

    ReplyDelete
  110. OH WOW! What a hit in the Dallas/TB game!

    ReplyDelete
  111. Here's my official AP ballot:

    1. Florida
    2. Texas
    3. Southern Cal
    4. Penn State
    5. Alabama
    6. Ole Miss
    7. BYU
    8. California
    9. Oklahoma
    10. Ohio State
    11. Pittsburgh
    12. Boise State
    13. Virginia Tech
    14. LSU
    15. TCU
    16. North Carolina
    17. Oklahoma State
    18. Georgia
    19. Georgia Tech
    20. Utah
    21. Nebraska
    22. Miami Florida
    23. Cincinnati
    24. Houston
    25. Iowa

    ReplyDelete
  112. What is the popcorn story?

    ReplyDelete
  113. Does anyone have an injury update on Trott, Adams, Lykes, Cole? I saw them get injured but didn't know their status. Any other injuries I missed?

    ReplyDelete
  114. THT Fairley had a fumble recovery in the La Tech game I believe

    ReplyDelete
  115. OK with 21 seconds leftg todd completed a pass to darvin at the 2... on that play lee zem was out in the flat (really onthe line of scrimage near the sidelines) with his hands up jumping like an open rec.

question.. did cgm put him thier to keep the corner back up near the line in cover 2?

    ReplyDelete
  116. DL... He put him out there to hold either the corner or the safety so Adams could get behind him.
I also think it is a set up play for later. I think you'll see that again, and throw a screen using LZ as a lead blocker out there on the edge. Ziemba lined up as an eligible receiver on more than one occasion.
I noticed several plays that are set up plays for later in the season.

    ReplyDelete
  117. UNC tight end hurt his leg jumping up and down after game tying TD reception with 2+ minutes to go. He had to be taken from the field in an air cast. That's why I cringe EVERY SINGLE TIME I see players do that big jump & bump stuff after big plays.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Do you think we will see Gabe now that Trott is injured?

    ReplyDelete
  119. THT,
On 2 separate occasions, I saw an AU player getting taken out with a high flying chest bump. Trooper knocked Quin Carr on the ground once, and Kodi took somebody out once as well.

    ReplyDelete
  120. BigCat - yes, I do remember that now. Thanks!!!

    2 game total...
we've made 3 INTs and 1 Fumble Recovery against 2 lost fumbles an no thrown INTs.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Kathy,
I think you'll see more of Lutz. The kid looked good... he held his own blocking from what I could tell. McKenzie has to get more PT though... I would think.

    ReplyDelete
  122. THT,
Was it Bynes or Coleman who forced the fumble that Fairley recovered? Coleman, wasn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  123. I worry about the byproduct of success by Malzahn. While there are obvious upsides and I know I'm acting like I've been funneling the koolaid, if he gets tapped as a HC next year and we lose him, is there a CGM disciple out there that we would be able to backfill him with? Yet another system change could stifle the good that gets accomplished this year.

Hopefully Chizik keeps "a list" and has the money in a drawer to keep CGM until an offer too good to pass up occurs.

    ReplyDelete

  125. Is the word that Trott will be out for long? He looked ok walking on the sidelines.

JGT, do you really think UGA is a top 20 team? They haven't looked great in either game from what I've seen. I think they will get better as the season goes on, but right now I just don't see it.

  126. It's still way way too early. When we are putting up those same numbers in late October then we'll be doing pretty good for ourselves.

  127. The funny thing about yesterday, the worst thing that could happen to our D was scoring that TD, as they immediately had to come back on the field.

The best thing to happen to our D was in the same quarter when when had the punt blocked, because it kept them from having to get back on the field when they were worn out.

  128. D.Miller - I was thinking AC, but I'm not positive.

UNC certainly hasn't looked like a top 20 team. They only managed 35 yards rushing against the UConn Huskies. Will they put it together and blow out ECU this weekend, or will it be another nailbiter. I don't know.

Ga Southern sure has disappeared from I-AA relevance.

  129. If a play works, the same play is repeated till it stops working. Repeated throws to the same WR, repeated handoffs to the same RB.

    It's so predictable it's unpredictable.

War Eagle, Hotties! What another exciting game! Special teams needs work, esp. on kickoffs, but other than that, I LOVE IT!

I was on the phone with my mom when Digger came to our tailgating spot. I thought to myself, "Who is this man and what is he selling?" LOL He then came up to me and introduced himself as Digger. He is a VERY nice man and I enjoyed meeting him.

  132. JGT - you're not giving any early love to the Tigers, ie: squeaking them in at #25 instead of Iowa?

The Panthers were 54-27 winners on the road,..albeit to a Buffalo team starting a new rs soph QB (but hey, they did beat UTEP last week).

  133. I thought Pitt played Youngstown Penguins (not UTEP).

  134. As for the Gus Kool-Aid, I'm not drinking it all.

    I'm snorting the powder form.

I hereby proclaim any discussion of his departure as "restricted speech," as in the order of yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater.

  135. I don't mind Jay not putting us in the top 25 at this point. Solid victories in the next two games should get us there.

  136. Gus is on a 3 year contract and I bet he is loving being in Auburn. It has to be a world of difference between the Chiz and Nutt. I doubt he would leave after this season, but it really depends on the opening. If someone like Notre Dame, Texas A&M, or Miami called wanting a new HC, who could blame him?

  137. These stats show we should be in the top 25.

  138. AU is the #2 offense in the country (to UF) and i would argue our competition has been a little stiffer than charleston chew, and troy. tebow's stats from those games should be stricken from his heisman consideration. he may actually get his final chance to beat AU at the end of this year if things keep progressing like this.

    ReplyDelete
  139. or should i say have the chance for his third and final LOSS to AU...

    ReplyDelete
  140. chip chip, I wouldn't go that far. So far we have been lucky, no injuries on the OL. LBs haven't been injured during games and we got one back. A lot with this season will depend upon the injury situation, particularly at linebacker.

  141. i say JJ should be drawn and quartered if he does not sign GM up for a 5 year deal for $1 million with a hefty buyout if he keeps producing at this rate. we don't want him leaving for a hc gig at a CUSA or MAC school. pay him that $$$ at AU. if he wants to leave for a hc gig at a big time program, good for him and AU gets some big time cash from his new employer to hire the next guy.

i don't believe that is in violation of jet's mandate...

    Chip and Steve,

I actually had to catch my breath after those last three posts.

    Thanks for the chuckle, fellas.

It's two games in and better than it was.

Long way to go before we are 5 by 5.

  143. i know. we are one injury at a key position away from the middle of the pack. the D also has to improve quite a bit in my opinion. but we now appear to have the ability to win a shootout if the D has a bad day. i'm just saying if this pace of improvement is continued, we could be a contender at year's end. i still see 4-6 good chances at a loss on the schedule. but wouldn't you like another shot to be superman's kryptonite?

Look, let me make this straight. I don't get joy from being "right" about tempered expectations.

I choose to look at things from both sides in sports as a way to be informed.

I WANT Auburn to win every single game. But I KNOW that won't always happen.

And for the record, life pretty much blows right now in my world - this is and escape.

  146. I liked Eric Smith's blocking.

There's .. still.. room for improvement in a few facets of the offense.

I think the defense played pretty stout. There are so many youngsters playing that I think the defense has made lesser mistakes than what I'd expect.

    I'm not touching speshul teams.

What's the word on WVU? Are they as, uhm, not up to snuff as they have shown in the first two games?

  148. Sensi

May God grant you and yours the strength to find peace in this time. I am sure you are doing a good job in being supportive.

On the subject I agree with your POV. It's a great start but it's just 2 games.

  149. one thing i do know is tubs better stfu about offense on the radio and espnu. gus has already proven he's forgotten more about it than the 2008 staff put together times infinity. same players they had (cept FAH) and slightly different results. 3-2 vs 49-24 says a lot to me and i think this MSU team was vastly improved over what croom had put on the field the last few years.

  153. WVU Jarrett Brown has been tearing it up in the first two games. He is passing the ball extremely well. This will be a much stiffer test to the Auburn Defense this week.

Offense had an "off" night last night IMO...imagine if things were really clicking????

Chris Todd needs to stop throwing off his back foot so much and step into the pass. I love his vision of the field, but he needs to make sure he steps into the throw.

GM, what can you see by Freakin WOW!!!!

Defense needs to keep improving. I was disappointed with the run defense, but pleasantly surprised by the pass defense.

  154. If last year is any indication, WV usually gets better as the season progresses.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Here is a statment that I have never said as it relates to an Auburn offense:

"The WRs bailed Todd out on a few passes last night!"

    T. Zach climbed the ladder to get a pass that looked like an INT from the time it left Todd's hand. He definately had a bit of an off night passing and he still played great IMO.

No sacks and No INTs is pretty impressive thanks to great play by the OL and Todd's good decision making.
