Wrappin' it up: Auburn wins, 49-24

Hey everyone. Here are some things you need to know about the game.

STATISTICS OF NOTE
  • AUBURN PLAYS RUN: 83

  • AUBURN YARDS: 589

  • AUBURN TIME OF POSSESSION: 31:03

  • KODI BURNS TOUCHDOWNS: 3 rushing, 1 wide-open pass

  • FIRST DOWNS: Auburn had 29; MSU had 14.

  • Auburn in the RED ZONE: 4 trips, 4 touchdowns

  • Ben Tate: 20 carries for 157 yards, 1 TD

  • Onterio McCalebb: 16 carries, 114 yards, 1 TD

  • Mario Fannin: 9 carries, 75 yards, 0 TD

  • Kodi Burns: 9 carries, 32 yards, 3 TD

QUOTES OF NOTE
  • Gene Chizik on the offense: ``We were sporadic at times. The final numbers obviously will tell you that we were very effective in a number of ways. Still, so much room to improve. I thought near the end again we ran the ball well. It's never as good as it seems. It's never as bad as it seems."

  • Chizik on Kodi Burns scoring three TDs and passing for a fourth: ``It's as good as it gets. It's great. You are looking at great things happening to great kids. As we told him when this whole thing happened, we said: `You are going to help us win games.' He has played a big role in the first two."

  • Burns on why the Wildcat works so well in the red zone: ``I credit all our offensive success to the offensive line. They did a great job. Every time we got within the five-yard line, we were able to punch the ball in. We executed well and our hard work has been paying off."

  • Onterio McCalebb on ... life in general: ``I love Ben Tate like a brother. When we're out there together, we have a lot of fun. When we we're off the field, we're running around but once we're in, we get down to business."

  • Ben Tate on this team's personality: ``It's not like last year when we never finished a game. We're a second-half team because we're in great shape."

  • Joshua Bynes on the next game: ``We're going to be very prepared for West Virginia. They are going to be competitive. They are going to be after us. We're going to come in two times harder than last year. We're 2-0 right now, but we're 0-1 with West Virginia."

  3. I'll read what all that means later. Good game. Good time tailgating.

  4. Pix will be posted Sunday of the gang.

  5. To your last post on the other thread jet. I concur. A win, with issues to fuss about is a good thing.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I was with The Gang, wtc.

    Where were j00?

    ReplyDelete
  7. That Bynes quote is a great one.

    ReplyDelete
  8. BTW - the new prototype helmet is 2-0. And Chizik is now 7-14 as a head coach.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Shooting? I don't believe I was shooting anything nor was anyone shooting me. Unless you count popcorn and that was more of a spray.

    ReplyDelete
  10. And Chizik is now 2-0 in games that start at 6:00pm at home in Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium in 2009 with Chris Todd at starting QB with cloudy conditions.

  11. I;m as excited as can be for next week. I'm just taking it one week at a time, I hope the players are doing the same. So far, the offense is as we'd hoped it had been this time last year. War Eagle to everyone, I'm excited (and a little buzzed). I'm taking it to the house. Y'all have a good night and War Eagle.

Jay G, thank you for all you do. I enjoy your coverage and I look forward to coming to this page everyday. Good night!

  12. JGT-I was at Kristina's place early (@1:30ish) for about 40 minutes. Had to go visit other areas with the wife. I got a pix of the group except you and Josh and the fellow on the end.

  13. jay boulware is going to be running steps in the morning. special teams (except for the depth of kickoffs) is "turrihurible" to quote a famous AU man.

    ReplyDelete
  14. other than the 2ndQ stinkorama, the O looks great. most of these are the same players the previous coaches couldn't produce 300 yards a game with. we do that in a playing well for half of a half now. amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  15. G'nite and a great big War Eagle to you all!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. what should really scare other teams is that AU is putting up almost 600 yards and still has a lot that can improve. malzahn deserves a glass of chocolate milk before bed.

    ReplyDelete
  17. One note on that Chip chip, the broadcasters were talking about Tate's stats at the middle of the third quarter and then mentioned also that he didn't even play in the 1st quarter. A great staff of coaches is really making this whole thing work very well.

    now I'm headin out

  18. I saw Nick Fairly in on one play during the second half. I still think the "Bull" Freeman looked confused at times, but I sure do like his energy.

  19. good night Hotties. Good game on the left coast headed to 4th qtr Oregon leading 31-24. Ducks have 2 defensive TDs. I'm not going to be able to stay up for the exciting finish.

    Sweeeeeeet dreams and

    WARRRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!!

now 31-30, UO blocked Purdue's PAT.

  20. what are the odds AU moves into the top 25? i still don't think they are there yet. an impressive win over WVU would likely change that.

the UT game looks very winnable now. it is obvious how much western kentucky s*cks now.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Night THT..

I expect Auburn to beat a scrappy WVU team and smoke UT.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't think we move into the top 25 yet. Not much love for us beating two teams that we were supposed to. I think a win over WVU will get us some attention but I am not sure that will even get us into the top 25.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The optimism just ratcheted up another click.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am very pleased with what we have seen so far. Notice that Caudle has gotten playing time in both games. Also, it was great to see Eric Smith out there. I have heard him described as a do it all type similar to Fannin, but I heard that for the first time only recently. He should be a solid player.

Having Toro back actually allowed us to get the linebackers some breaks. That was needed.

    ReplyDelete
  25. FSJ

What is the word on Julio's injury?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Should we beat West Virginia and Ball State, we should be close to or in the top 25. Beat Tennessee and we will likely be in the upper teens.

    ReplyDelete
  27. what we have seen thus far in 2009 is exactly what i envisioned the franklin experiement to look like but with a little more passing. tubs and the bbq gang managed to suck the life outta that before it ever got started.

fsj, is that avatar a future picture of $aban signaling to malzhan to call off the dogs?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Steve FC,

One game at a time. Let's focus on WVU.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Apparently Julio has a bruised knee. That shouldn't be a huge deal.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I am cocerned about our overall special teams play. I think that it need alot of work.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Julio has a bruised knee from what i can tell..

    He'll be fine.

    Upchurch sprained an ankle..

Damien Square most likely tore his ACL...

    ReplyDelete
  32. WV is a concern. If our defense gets tired, Noel Devine will run all over the place.

    ReplyDelete
  33. THT earlier said something about Julio having a torn ACL. I wonder where he got that info from?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Somebody confused him with Square.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Maybe THT got Julio and Damien confused.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Did you hear the announcer say we didn't give the ball to anyone else when we had Bo. Hello. Tommy Agee, Lionel James, Brent Fullwood. I think we had other backs, although Bo was special.

I did think that question was pretty lame when asked during an Auburn game. You knew who would win it. Hershel Walker should have gotten a significant number of votes.

    ReplyDelete
  37. speaking of dumbass, MTSU scored 31 on memphis and put up 400+. i bet furr wishes he had stayed put at AU now.

    ReplyDelete
  38. You are right about it being lame during an Auburn game; however, the cell phone cos. need those kind of things to get folks texting and spending money.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I actually took us getting behind in the second quarter as something that might be a good thing. Reacting to being behind is important. There was not panic, just two more touchdowns.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I can't totally agree with that Steve FC. I enjoy having a lead and keeping it. With that said, I am out of here also. Have at it and have fun doing it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Any regulars in here?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Don't think so. I haven't seen them.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Cincy's Peanut Butter Cookies = Foodgasm.

Had a great day meeting new Hotties and enjoying their gracious hospitality.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Just got in from the Loveliest Village on the Plains. After printing out THT's map, I left it at home. While walking around campus, my sister would periodically yell out "Hottie Hooooo!" I'm going to have to send her this link so she can meet you fine folks. I've got to get some much needed sleep now. War Eagle!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Good morning, HOT ONES and a special shout out to the HABOTNistas!

In honor of his suave ways yesterday, I hereby rename J-Z ...

    "J-Zhag."

    ReplyDelete
  46. >>>>And all of that leads to the big question: Should we now be putting this Auburn team in the SEC contenders conversation?

    Short answer: Yep.<<<

Josh Moon having the kool-aid for breakfast.

War Eagle to all - get ready for what I think is the most important game of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  47. All I'm saying is that those were some fine ass cookies. Don't judge me.

    ReplyDelete
  48. It always makes me feel dirty when I agree with something Josh writes. I said it last night, and I'll say it today: I felt a strange sense of calm come over me when our offense trotted out there with the ball. I just had the feeling that everything was going to be ok. This is a new concept for me to get arms around.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Good morning Hotties
First let me say thank you to two gracious Hotties LUV and Cincy. Great people with great families and friends. I enjouyed my short visits with both groups.
Kristina I could not find you. Asked three groups on the lawn of Foy and no one knew about the Hotties. Asked one group across the street same thing. GAVE UP. I wish the Hotties could put up a little sign with HABOTN on it.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I feel it too, j-z. But though I've had sips of the kool-aid, I'm not gonna start really slurping it down unless we beat WV. Only then does the 10-2 scenario become possible, and of course, nothing certain about it even then. But it does become possible.

A good day to Jay and to all the Hotties. I've got to head off to church; will check back in tonight to see who agrees with Josh.

    ReplyDelete
  51. This team is fun to watch. After Miss State scored 17 unanswered points they kept their poise came back and scored 2 touchdowns. My seat was not the best, down low south endzone, but I could see the line play opening up. I am anxious to see the replay this afternoon.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Morning folks. That was a fun day and evening. This team is making me happy.

    ReplyDelete
  53. digger, if you zoom in as far as possible using satellite view on the HABOTN Tailgaters map, it will show you exactly where Kristina is.

And don't forget to yell Hottie Hooooooo!!!! ;-)

  54. j-zhag said: This is a new concept for me to get arms around.

Apparently, that is what the kickoff cover team thinks of the opponent's return man.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I get up this morning to watch my AU replay, and my husband tells me he has some bad news. The Sony Bravia HD TV is on the fritz. He had settled into the family room to watch some good football, and he got nothing. He googled and found out there are a lot of people out there with the same issue. Bummer. NFL kicks off today too. Football is the only reason I got this TV.

    ReplyDelete
  56. After 2 games Auburn has the 2nd highest ranked offense in the nation. UF is first after weaker competition.

Auburn also has the 2nd highest rushing (after AF).

Same team was ranked 97th in 2007, and 104th in 2008

    ReplyDelete
  57. Good evening, Aero!!! WAR EAGLE!!!

Please don't take it personally, but I removed your tailgate spot from the HABOTN map. It prevents those interested in the tailgaters located within walking distance of J-H from having to zoom in on Auburn every time they go to the HABOTN map.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Ah..will that was my evil plan. It wont work anymore?

    Morning THT, n hotties.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I yelled Hottie Hoooooo and everyone around me looked at me as if to say thay old drunk cooter should be back in the nursing home.

    ReplyDelete
  60. will= Well

    Dang tablet pc.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I'd love to have that on video, digger!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Digger, we were yelling it too, and everyone was looking for Tim the Tool Man!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I sure enjoyed myself. I must have walked 50 miles yesterday. My legs hurt, my back hurts, I have a blister on my right big toe but I would do it again if I could get up. I will be back down for Home Coming if not sooner.

My apologies to the HABOTNistas for my lack of appearance yesterday. I was unable to get away.

WTC, met your daughter yesterday. Sweet girl.
