First Post: Thursday of Week Four

Hey everyone. Looks like more rain is on its way to central Alabama, which means the Tigers could be looking at another wet weekend. So it goes.

I was just watching a replay of the Ball State @ Army game from last week. The winless Cardinals didn't look all that bad to me, but I suppose you have to consider the level of competition. Maybe my 95-7 prediction for this weekend's game is a bit off.

Just joshin'. My real pick is Auburn 63, Ball State 10.

Here's the Auburn situation at this moment:

  6. It was good to put names and faces.... its a shame the Auburn Cops made me put my clothes on...

  7. Well, it may have been more exciting for some the other way, but I like the AU cops enforcing the law :)!

  11. there's a 60% chance of rain/thunderstorms in knoxville on saturday. glad i got my grass cut on tuesday.

however, it looks like it's clearing out after that and next week's forecast looks fantastic for those traveling up (or down) here.

  13. nice AU1. i can't wait. i missed the 2004 game here (i was still living in KY at the time).

    ReplyDelete
  14. Jay G: it had been awhile since you last pulled out the question mark post title. I have missed 'em!

In my honest opinion, Gabe was a pretty darn good tight end. I have trouble believing he has no place in this offense.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Georgia has agreed to continue playing Florida in Jacksonville every year through 2016. The contract was to expire after 2010.

I may just be remembering the AU experience in Birmingham, but why would UGA continue to play what is essentially a home game for UF every year? I remember the argument(from the Bammers)that the AU/UA game would lose its luster if it was moved to a home and home. Anyone feel that way today?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ball State-Army was televised on CBS College Sports.

Yes, too many games are televised these days.

    ReplyDelete
  17. NEVER TOO MANY GAMES... just not enough space on TIVO...

    ReplyDelete
  18. AUfan - one argument Auburn had was that Alabama sometimes played other regular season games at Legion Field. To my knowledge, the game in Jacksonville is the only one either Florida or Georgia plays there each year.

    ReplyDelete
  19. i didn't know CBS had their own college thing. hmmm. i need to see if i get that.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Michael,

At one time, Auburn played other games at Legion Field. In fact there have been several doubleheaders at Legion Field involving AU and UA. I went to a couple of them. Coach Jordan just believed that AU should play all home games on campus. He did not live to see the UA play in Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  21. These night games would have driven Coach Jordan nuts also. He felt that all home games should be played in the afternoon so the grads had plenty of time to travel to and from the games. Of course, this was before the Interstate Highway System was completed and there wasn't that many games being televised.

    ReplyDelete
  22. AUFan- Money Bulldogs in Savanah and South Georgia Love the Cocktail party. That is why the game continues there.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The worlds largest outdoor coctail party is fun. It's really cool seeing a stadium split 50/50. I'm a fan of that concept. I'd love to get to TX/OK to check that out, too.

I'm not sure it's a home game. Florida travels 2 hours. UGA travels 5.5. Is that equal? No. Is it the Iron Bowl in Bammerham? Not even close.

    ReplyDelete
  24. You want to see if Sensi picked against the Tigers for a second week in a row???? Go check out the picks:

    SEC Predictions Week 4

    ReplyDelete
  25. michael, I guess that does make some difference, but I think a home and home UGA/UF would be much more exciting. I know there was also some talk about rotating between Jacksonville and the Georgia Dome. Didn't Richt come out during the summer for moving the game to campus?

    ReplyDelete
  26. USA Today today writes that the SEC West is the toughest division in football with three top 5 games. We are mentioned only as a potential trap for Ole Miss.

    They're dissin' us!

    WE WILL NOT BE MOCKED!

    Nutt? DEAD MAN!

    Les the Hat? DEAD!

    SABAN? DEAD!

Who's with me? Let's dooooo itttttt!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Jay Jacobs on First Take, "How has Houston Nutt turned the Ole Miss program around so quickly?" Not so fast my friend it's gonna be a long year.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sorry, Jay Crawford knew that didn't sound right.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Big EZ- That makes more sense. You had me confused on that one.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Glad it wasn't just me!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Put me in the camp that says this game will be much, much closer than most are predicting.

Coming off an emotional win against a pretty fair WVU, looking towards our first road game in front of the largest crowd most of our team will EVER see in their lives (much less play in), facing a team that finished 12-0 regular season last year, and with us still having considerable depth issues - I just don't see us running over them no matter how badly they've looked thus far in '09.

It's my hope that we are able to get a comfortable lead in the first half, then rest the starters for most of the second. That won't translate into a 50+ point victory (might not even cover the spread).

Unlike JGT I haven't seen the Ballers play this year. Still, they've got a lot of guys who know what winning feels like, which always concerns me. Right now I'm guessing 48-20, with them picking up some late points on our 2nd team D. But if we make some bad mistakes early it could actually be a ballgame.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Freep- They lost a majority of that team for last season. Any team that loses to New Hampshire has serious issues. IF you look closer at Ball State, they should struggle big time. I really don't see this a ballgame in any way and if they score 20, I would be shocked. I'm not saying that it can't happen, but if it does, then Auburn has some issues.

    ReplyDelete
  33. What can I say - 40+ years of following AU football has made me a cockeyed pessimist.

I think we DO have some issues beyond our 1st string on defense, and I think Parrish is good enough a coach to find ways to exploit them. Of course by the time we have the backups in I hope we have a huge lead, but if MSU can hang 17 points and 300 yards on our first unit, I think these guys will have a shot at putting up similar numbers in the latter stages when (hopefully) our best guys are resting up for UTee.

    ReplyDelete
  34. You may be right about that Freep, putting up points against the backups. As for Mississippi State, I think they too are much improved from last year. They probably won't win as many games, but their offense is much better than what it was. Beating Vandy last week was a big win since Vandy returned 19 starters to this year's squad that went to a bowl game last season.

    ReplyDelete
  35. SIAP, Eddie, I just read your picks from last week, congrats on nailing the point spread on AU/WVU.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Rain chance is down to 30% for Auburn on Saturday. Scattered thunderstorms, hope they scatter somewhere else.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Freep ...

I concur. I think Ball State is pathetic, but I have to believe we'll be worrying more about building depth than scoring 50 and giving up less than 20.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ball State is a good team.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Jet- Time for a new name and avatar.

Sean- Thanks, as my brother said, that was exactly how I thought that would happen. Never a doubt :).

    ReplyDelete
  40. Now I know Michael is joking. Good one.

    ReplyDelete
  41. So you knew I was joking without Kristeenuh around? Hmmm... makes me wonder if I am wasting my money...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Pay Kristina 15 cents

    ReplyDelete
  43. Since it is a slow morning, I have a question. What do you think about fans standing at the game? Not talking about the student section. I usually stand for the entire game and have never had anyone say anything, but I sit one row from the top in Section 15. Do y'all stand? Do the fans around you complain?

    ReplyDelete
  44. What are you, Kristeenuasah's business manager cincy? I'll pay her when she does her darn job!!!

(and it is down to 14 cents/hr, by the way)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh yeah, I forgot. I'm trying to work a cut so I can buy my new condo on Magnolia :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. cincy - I would prefer to stand the whole game, but I have only been to one game since being a student, and I too was on the back row. Doesn't seem like that is kosher in most spots.

cincy, tell Krustaina that I am reevaluating her contract since it has been brought to my attention that some people know I am joking without her help.

    ReplyDelete
  47. i'm in section 12 near the bottom and most of my peeps do both. it depends on the game situation. i would prefer to stand but after 7 years in the same spot i'm cool either way.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I start off sitting, but if AU is stinking it up, I stand (a la the WV game...I didn't sit after it got to 21-10). There's no one behind me so it doesn't bother anybody.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Another question - Tylerson just called me from Urgent Care in Auburn. Thinks he broke his finger playing flag football last night. Anyone know a good orthopedist in Auburn? I have a great one in Bham, but hate for him to come all the way here.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Anonymous10:40 AM

Freep - that pick is as whack as Heavy D.

    ReplyDelete
  51. C'mon Cincy, Birmingham is not a bad drive from Auburn. I know this because I waved to it and then had another 3 hours roughly until I got home.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Anonymous10:46 AM

Who in here is for the Iron Bowl moving back to Birmingham with teh 50/50 split once the new dome is complete?

    ReplyDelete
  53. I know, but with work and school it would be alot easier if he didn't have to add 4 hours of driving to the time he will wait in the dr's office. Maybe it won't be broken - that would be much better.

    ReplyDelete
  54. How many different ways can I say "No"?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Since that won't be in our lifetime, I will refrain from voting.

    ReplyDelete
  56. HELL NO on Bham. Won't ever happen again. Only a bamer would want that.

  58. Morning Hotties - (it's still early in California). Sadly, I'll be missing the live-blogging/chatting tonight for the most part since I'll be travelling home.

Since I said late yesterday that I hoped to ratchet up my goofing off percentage today to 99.999%, if I do something which is "personally" productive but absolutely non-work related, does that count? I need a ruling before I venture down that path. Really, I'm just here filling a chair today at this customer site, I have no intentions of doing anything work related and I believe it's expected.

So, your opinions on the goof off question are appreciated.

    that is all.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Jet- Wow, going for a federal recognition of HABOTN. Awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  62. EFFF birmingham and their silly dome. I want the iron bowl fair, like it is now. How long did it take to get the game in Auburn?? Nothing against those that live there, but b'ham is just not where i wanna be, especially for an iron bowl.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Norm- It all depends on what you consider "personally productive" :)!

    ReplyDelete
  64. And BinOBA says take that Birmingham!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. We'll play in Birmingham when the SEC Championship Game is played again Bham, which is never. Otherwise, we'll go back to Bham to recruit or to dance on the ashes of that hellhole on the west side of town after its implosion.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Don't fear mr freep, look at our sideline, the constipated look is gone from our sideline, this is not last year, thank gawd or whoever.....

    ReplyDelete
  67. Cincy - good orthopedist in Auburn? Try Win Lyle.

    ReplyDelete
  68. When you look at the problems b'ham has i think it's ridiculous to build that dome, but hey, they'll have a dome. Nice place for the police to beat somebody i suppose.....

    ReplyDelete
  69. good call THT. isn't Dr. Lyle at the Houghston Clinic?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Thanks, THT.. Tylerson just called and it is broken, but the dr says it is in place and doesn't need setting. He splinted it. I hope it is okay because I hate to think of him having trouble with it the rest of his life. But I guess broken fingers aren't a big deal, or so my son tells me.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Eduardo ... I'm also meeting with the administration about having Jay G appointed the sports blog czar. But that's hush-hush. So keep it down home, Cuz.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Thanks for the opinions boys. Don't you worry, never ye fear, my Hate will always be here whether I'm slammed with busy work for the man or just sitting staring idly into space (if that ever happens). Yesterday, when the alarm clock went off, it interrupted a dream I was having about a new recruiting scandal which I had uncovered involving UAT. So you see, even in my sleep I HATE.

As for the goofing off, I'll go with my "personally" productive plan since it involves putting something together for my daughter. The rest of my time will be spent engaged in completely idle pursuits.

    Keep Hate Alive!

    ReplyDelete
  73. I broke my finger freshman year at Auburn and took my AU Infirmary x-ray to Kenny Howard (head trainer). He told me the same thing. I had a splint on it for 2 weeks. I've gotten real old and the finger is as good as new.

  74. So any of you guys gamers?? I know jay g is all into it,i just got my summer bonus and bought an Xbox. Got a few games and they are cool, anyone got any faves to reccomend? I picked up dirt 2,COD world at war, and left for dead. Any suggestions are appreciated, TIA.

  75. I'm way too old for that stuff, BinOBA

    ReplyDelete
  76. dream hate. i am so proud Norm.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I will have to admit the world at war game is very impressive especially with the historical context thrown in, dirt 2 is amazing and exciting and the left for dead game scares the **** out of me from time to time. I am 35 and never wanted an Xbox til i played the left for dead in co op mode, can't wait to play the world at war game online. I'm 35 so i grew up in the golden age of video games and enjoy them for a bit of a "release" after work.

  81. i'm trying to watch the UGA-ARKY game at work here. very impressed by this ARKY offense. first time i've seen Mallett. wow. these skill guys look good too (after 1 quarter anyways).

    ReplyDelete
  82. I think I still owe the Houghston Clinic money from when I was at Auburn and broke my hand. Last I heard, they were still squabbling with the insurance company. That place is nice and the docs are good. It still took too long.

  83. i think i'll go be a russian sniper for a lil bit, catch yall in a little while.

    ReplyDelete
  85. biggest folley? he's had a handful to pick from hasn't he?

Forcier looks good as a frosh up there in Ann Arbor.

    ReplyDelete
  86. The BIG Nutt isn't too bright, he didn't like Malzahn either.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Leaves starting to turn in our nation's Capitol.

    Lots of impressive scenery.

  90. Ole Miss vs South Carolina could be a trap game. Depends on how much time the old coach spends on the golf course.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I like your pick, Jay. It is about what I am expecting. Yes, I expect to see a ton of players play. That is why I think Ball State will score at some point, but this one should turn into a snoozer. Watching the young pups out there is what I am looking forward to.

    ReplyDelete
  92. The Ole Nutt vs. Cocks game is going to be exciting and a big game in terms of the SEC West. The west race is going to be very close. If a West team loses to an East team, they are going to be the odd man out. This is what I believe will get LSU and possibly Ole Nutt tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  93. If I've learned one thing this week, it's that Steve just likes saying "Ole Nutt" and "Cocks."

    ReplyDelete
  94. Breaking a finger must be a tradition at AU freshman year. I did the same, playing football.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Sensi,

Just got through doing some catching up. I did not think that ever in my lifetime would I hear or see what you posted concerning the Iron Bowl being moved back to B'ham under any circumstances, dome or otherwise. Count two more HELL NO votes, one from me and another from Coach Jordan in absentia.

    ReplyDelete
  96. No, never and hell no in response to the thought of moving the Iron Bowl back to B-ham.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Glad to see you gaming, b.

If you get serious about playing, friend me on xbox live. I'm paseana.

  98. In case you're writing a check to clear an old bill, it's Hughston Clinic.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Anonymous12:22 PM

I'm not for moving it; I'm just asking the question. Here's the response I got for a Bama fan about it.

AU insecurity destroyed something very special. It always was a power struggle to show that AU was "equal" to Alabama -- by forcing Alabama to come to Auburn that showed AU was not "little brother" anymore. The 80's showed that the Iron Bowl (named by Shug Jordan) was a neutral site game. The argument that it was unfair because Alabama continued to play a few games there (AU could have done the same) or that it was somewhat closer to Tuscaloosa (did the game have to be played in Clanton?) don't really hold water. It was about AU flexing its muscles. In my book, that is insecurity and that insecurity destroyed something very special.

    ReplyDelete
  100. May have told this one before, but when I was living in Nashville, I worked with Steve Spurrier's nephew. He was always talking about how he played QB in HS and for one year at the Citadel. It was hard for me to think of him as any type of athlete, as he was the slow-moving, pot-bellied type. One day he asked me if I wanted to throw the football out on the loading dock. He was probably 35 -40 yards away from me and was throwing spirals to me on a rope that were still whistling when they hit my hands (which they did every time). I guess there is something in the Spurrier genes. 10 years later, I still remember how much my hands were hurting. Did I mention it was winter?

    ReplyDelete
  101. I love that the Iron Bowl is playing in Auburn. Should Bama want to move their home game to Birmingham, that would be up to them.

There was something attractive about the 50/50 ticket split, but Birmingham always felt like an Alabama home game. They use to play more than one game at Legion Field and we didn't, not to mention that Legion Field was artificial turf, while Jordan Hare is grass.

Nope, we need to kick them in the grass.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Sensi, first you pick against Auburn and now you are talking about moving the Iron Bowl back to Birmingham. Could this be some subconscious suicide attempt.

    Okay, who's bringing the rope?

    ReplyDelete
  103. I doubt many Bammers would want to move the Iron Bowl back now, especailly since their stadium now seats well more than any dome might seat. Legion Field now seats less than it did when the last Iron Bowl was played there. They had to remove the upper deck on the east side due to deterioration.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Anonymous12:25 PM

Again, I didn't say we should move it, I just asked what you all thought.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Crap, now what am I going to do with this bucket of tar?

    ReplyDelete
  106. No, it was Bama trying to flex its muscle to try to keep the game in Birmingham and call it neutral ground.

Even when the tickets were split 50/50 as they say, it never seemed to be that way.

They are still bitter 20 years later that they lost their "neutral site" game. Too bad.

Ask Georgia fans how they like not having the UF/UGA game on campus.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Sensi, that Bammer's argument has so many holes in it that most AU fans could post a rebuttal to every sentence.

    ReplyDelete
  108. If anybody wants to take a beatdown on NCAA PS3, let me know :)

    ReplyDelete
  109. Steve- Legion field switched back to grass, but I was on the field for the last game and it was painted dirt, seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Eddie lets play

    ReplyDelete
  111. "Neutral" site games for MAJOR are the worst idea every. College football teams have home stadiums for a reason.

    ReplyDelete
  112. JD- Will do it, i'll send my user name when I verify it at home. It's been so long since I played online, but I believe its eddie4au, could be wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  113. ok I am JDfromMontgomery. When do you want to do it?

    ReplyDelete
  114. I got mad FIFA09 (soon will in FIFA10) skills. I'm like the 1974 Dutch World Cup team without the final loss to West Germany; like Arsenal without the lack of results and the sanctimony of Wenger. Bring it (just kidding, I hardly play any FIFA online). Xbox Live gamertag Cincinnatus.

I fear I've said too much.

    ReplyDelete
  115. You around tomorrow night JD? I got Habotn plans for the night :).

    ReplyDelete
  116. Who wants to come over to my house after school and play some Atari?

    ReplyDelete
  117. Eddie how long has your brother been a commie?

J/K, I've never understood why people say "Soccer" fans are commies. Anyone know?

    ReplyDelete
  118. I no longer play any FIFA games or Halo against my Bro, no fun, just play as a teammate and enjoy. He is good.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Scott C- Do you have Burger Time? IF so, I'm game :)

    ReplyDelete
  120. I'm down! The first ever HABOTN Bowl. I vote that we let the members of the HABOTN pick our teams. What say you?

    ReplyDelete
  121. That's fine JD.

I pick Western Kentucky for JD :)

    ReplyDelete
  122. Scott, I got ya on some centipede.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Soccer fans are considered commies because it's a proletariat sport everywhere else but the US. That's half-joking and half-truth. Playing soccer is a middle-class game in the US and a lower-class game in the rest of the world.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Don't have that one, Eddie, but my mom says I can get it if I pay for half of it with my allowance and Kool-Aid stand money. By the way, if we're playing Missile Command and you get blown up, don't scream. My mom will make you go home.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Wow, the Western Kentucky vs. North Texas game may be brutal...

    ReplyDelete

  127. BTW, anybody picked up the new Halo 3: ODST? Haven't yet, but it looks as though it may renew an old, torrid love affair for me.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Yeah, if I get a crappy team, i'm moving the fastest guy to QB. Works everytime.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Eddie's thrown more and he crossed the line a couple of years ago when he threw down one of MY controllers after I destroyed him in FIFA, a game I had been playing for months on end and one he had played for the first time that night. Real mature bro.

    ReplyDelete
  130. The above comment meant to say "when things don't go right"

    ReplyDelete
  131. Like I said earlier Bro, it's better now to play with you than against you since you do not own nor will play football games.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Don't mess with WKU, the Hilltoppers have one of the coolest mascots out there in Big Red.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Yes, of course it did. My mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Yeah, I've worried about our Wii controllers several times with my son. I have to go make him cool down on a pretty regular basis when he's playing Wii. My daughter is not nearly as bad about getting bent out of shape, but she will coldly kick your @$$ at several Wii games. She's particularly good at the shooting games for some reason. I don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.

  135. Yeah, I almost thought about purchasing the new NCAA earlier this year, but I just don't like spending 45 minutes playing one game. I can play 3-4 games of FIFA in that time. Plus, I got tired of playing everyone and the score always end up being 66-63 or something. Everybody went for it on fourth down and it literally came down to who had the ball last. Defense was impossible on that game in multi-player mode.

  136. Big Red isn't that cool RK. i was almost called into emergency action at WKU a few years back b/c the student who portrays Big Red was absent for a basketball game (i can't remember why). i really didn't want to do it at the time but looking back it would've been cool to do once. a student with previous Big Red experience came in to save the day.

seriously, they almost threw me out there in that red mess.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Dang, Scottie B. How many different schools have you attended?

    ReplyDelete
  138. uh......3. but i didn't go to WKU. i did work there for 10 glorious months.

ok, not glorious. it sucked actually.

    ReplyDelete
  139. if you paid tuition for just one class, that counts right?

    ReplyDelete
  140. I'm out to a jobsite. See ya latter on a different thread.

    ReplyDelete
  141. well, crap. if you use that rationale you can count Southern Union. that would be 4 schools. took 2 classes there.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Scottie, I would have had to put the costume on and been the big red blob and ate all the sports equipment just once.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I went to three schools if you count that.

Joint enrollment classes in HS through Chattanooga State.

    Undergrad at Auburn

    Grad school at UTC.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Aight everyone I've got to head back to work. Holla Holla Balla.

    ReplyDelete
  145. my office at WKU was next to the fundraising office and Big Red basically just had a closet in there with a couple desks.

i lost all respect for Big Red the day they entertained the idea of putting me in that suit. could you imagine a random dude inside the Aubie costume???? BLASPHEMY! oh, wait, Aubie's real. nevermind.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I've always found Big Red entertaining.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Big Red done killed tha thread!

    ReplyDelete
  148. WKU did provide the Tennessee Vols with its signature win of the 2009 season.

    T-O-P-S, TOPS, TOPS, TOPS!

    ReplyDelete
  149. Scottie, enough with bein on a boat, you probably just killed my productivity for the rest of the day.

Wii can be hazardous to your health and your television.

I was almost a Hilltopper myself and I don't really mind Big Red. I am actually good friends with a former Big Red. I think their towel is cool.

    ReplyDelete
  150. But Scottie, should I ever win three tickets for a free boat ride. I'm taking you....annnnnd....TPain.

    ReplyDelete
  151. thanks Sean. i'd be all about that boat ride. I'M A DOLPHIN DOIN' FLIPS....

i just didn't like my job. thus, my distaste for WKU. it happens.

  152. On the Iron bowl in B'ham.
    1. In the 50's amd ear;y 60's we played Ga Tech, Tenn, Miss State & Ala in B'ham. So it wasn't Ala only playing games there.
    2. The myth that the stadium was split 50/50 is just that a myth. Ala and Auburn allotted tickets were split 50/50 AFTER the B'ham merchants got there large alotment.
Guess who had more Merchants fans in B'ham If you guessed the University of Alabama. Here's you're Gold Star.

    ReplyDelete
  153. i'm ON a dolphin....well, you know.

    ReplyDelete
  154. i never got to witness the so-called 50/50 split first hand. i went to the '96 and '98 games in B'ham.

    ReplyDelete
  155. dude, i killed this thread worse than FSU killed BYU saturday nite. sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  156. I just read where we have scored in every quarter this season. That is pretty impressive.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Tell the bammer that we don't like Legion Field. Simple. We don't have to convince anyone with reasoning, specially a bammer.

He should convince his AD to alternate it between JHS and Legion instead of JHS and JHSWest. No problemo.

    ReplyDelete
  158. I just read this from an AU student: "I'm eating lunch minding my own business, and I hear this loud voice down the hall. I turn the corner to see what all the fuss is about, and Trooper and Luper are in the main lunch area giving a speech to all of the students. Basically Trooper thanked all of the students for staying through the rain last Saturday and encouraged everyone to get loud. He emphasized family and said he's been to many universities but they were nothing like Auburn. They gave out DWWD wristbands to all of the students..."

Don't know if this is true or not, but thought I would pass it on. Sounds like something they would do though. They are GREAT for AU!

    ReplyDelete
  159. So how can a guy who hasn't practiced in spring / fall just drop into the new system and get to work?

Wouldn't he be seriously lagging behind, specially in terms of pace and stamina? Would such a guy cause more harm than good to the system?

Those questions and more will be answered, when PPL plays his first snap.

    ReplyDelete
  160. mewants dwwd wristband.

    ReplyDelete
  161. someone commented on the Gulley article and I agree. He seems to be not wearing knee guards.

And there's a little line at the end of Sept 23, 2009 AU notebook:
"A lifetime spent watching and participating in games at Brantley High left the Gulley* native naive about the world of big-time college football."

    * Brantley native.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Here's a SI article that I'm not sure has been linked yet:

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1160508/index.htm

    ReplyDelete
  163. This beats the crap out of the WDWD wrist bands from last season. I don't know who came up with the "What Do We Do" sloggan, but I like "Do What We Do" much better.

    ReplyDelete
  164. whew...just got done reading and catching up. I hate when I get behind like that. So...

-a big hell no the going to B'ham
-also broke my finger at AU playing flag football. Set it myself before going to the ER for a splint. never had any trouble with it.
-4 universities using SB system of measurement
-always sit with momentary standing when outside the student section. i can feel the glares from behind me.

    did i miss anything???

    ReplyDelete
  165. thanks for the link Kathy.

SFC, that's just funny. can you believe CTF took over MTSU's O and beat Maryland? insane.

    ReplyDelete
  166. I vote we drop the Iron Bowl to B'ham discussion.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Yea, although admittedly dumb, he isn't a bad OC in the right situation, but Auburn definitely wasn't the right situation. I think it very similar to the Malzahn situation at Arkansas. Nutt is similar to Tuberville in a lot of ways and I don't think either could get comfortable with these new fangled offenses.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Steve,

Tony Franklin is history. End of discussion.

    ReplyDelete
  169. I saw a video from ESPN a while back asserting that now we have been in the spread for two years, it is starting to click. That was one of the more bizarre thoughts I have seen.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Franklin is doing just fine, IV. MTSU is 2-1 and in for an interesting season.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Steve,

You just can't leave Tony Franklin off of an Auburn blog. Maybe you should go to an MTSU blog and enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  172. IV, you may want to remove your head from a dark orifice and look. I am not the one that brought him up.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Maybe not, but you perpetuate it.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Hahaha, you are the only one mentioning his name, so who is perpetuating it. Reading is fundamental. Try more reading and less typing.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Steve, is that really you?

    ReplyDelete
  176. I just told you that he was history, why don't you learn to read and try not to be so sensitive.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Sensitive about what? I am off to work. Have a good day.

    ReplyDelete
  178. You always run away Steve. Comment and run.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Anyone else on here want to hear endless rambling about Tony Franklin and his ability to coach at MTSU?

    ReplyDelete
  180. I don't give two rips about Dumb@$$ or about Legion Field. I've been on Capitol Hill bustin' my hump trying to get Jay G appointed Sports Blog Czar or ambassador to Eurasia or Barbados. And y'all been talking about that junk. I'm at Reagan National waiting on my flight. You better get it straight. Remember Trooper says: You ain't got funk, if you talkin' 'bout junk.

    ReplyDelete
  181. I'd rather talk about puppets.....or goats!

    ReplyDelete
  182. Exactly Jet. I have been trying to say the same thing. You said it better.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Nah, I'd rather try to drive to Murfreesboro in a Rambler with the wheels locked to continually drive in a circle, all the while with Steve in the backseat reading all of his posts from Day 1 back-to-back.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Sounds like fun Scott C. Can J-Z and I ride with you?

    ReplyDelete
  185. IV, you do appear to be the only one rambling about him. You have been taught. Now move on.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Eeeeeeeasy big fella.

    ReplyDelete
  187. What time does Thursday Night Live start?

    ReplyDelete
  188. i brought up Tony Franklin. my bad hotties. it's all my fault.

    ReplyDelete
  189. IV, I'm not sure we can do the trip. Steve's work responsibilities have him occupied for up to 16 minutes at a time.

    ReplyDelete
  190. That long huh?

    ReplyDelete
  191. Boys....that's enough.

    ReplyDelete
  192. my bad...forget the "please"

    ReplyDelete
  193. Oh heck, it was just getting to be fun. Do we have to come in now Mom?

    ReplyDelete
