First Post: Thursday of Week Two
Hey everyone. Fun night last night. Thanks for sticking around and enjoying our time together. All in all, I'd say it was best-ever night HABOTN shenanigans.
Special collaborative thank-yous go to: MonD, Kristina, SteveFC, Big Snacks Frankenschmidt, j-z, FSJ, Norm and jhag for the totally random "are there any dippers in here?" question. Brought tears to my eyes. Good tears.
HABOTN hits are up. The Auburn stories are powerhouses at the Advertiser web site. I totally appreciate your steadfast support of this little enterprise. I'd give you a Yuengling Black & Tan if I had some and you were of age.
Here's the Auburn situation at this moment:

RK, I was astounded by that offer. My GameStop manager said the game (GH:VH) has bee completed for some time. Activision, worried that GH:VH would negatively affect GH5 sales, basically canned the project.
Hence our ability to get the game for free. It's nuts.
We mailed our stuff Monday. Pretty cool deal.
Van Halen is great. I am not sure why they would hurt sails. There is nothing like a little heavy metal disco to get you pumped.
UGA's schedule is brutal. If they lose to USC Saturday, they may only have 2 or 3 winnable games this year. Plus Cox hasn't practiced this week. Things could get ugly.
I talked to a UGA fan here at the office, and he's heard grumblings ALREADY about Richt. Of course its a somewhat unsatisfied fan base that seems to think they should always be in the SECCG. Also there are a lot of folks looking at the success of Chizik and Kiffin as a basis to get rid of folks. Not sure how their board feels about that, but the grumblings have started. Needless to say I'm a little happy to hear it.
I thought Richt might be on the hotseat this season. I don't really believe he deserves to be, but fans become impatient and they see the success of Meyer.
It's amazing to me that UGA could be envious of programs who have coaches who have coached in all of one game.
did we ever get a Wifey birthday update? how JG was able to pull off buying a new LCD tv for Beatles RB? inquiring minds....
I've been a CMR supporter, but he is doing less and less with more than just about anybody else. It is reminiscent of Miami and Tenn in the mid 2000's.
According to Scout.com, UGA has been 4th,5th or 6th in recruiting every class since 2004 except for 2007. 2007 was 17th. The avg for the other years was 4.67.
The guy can recruit, but keeps weak coordinators and is notoriously forgiving on disciplinary issues.
May try and Gameplan Pitt this weekend JGT.
Any thoughts on Tigers-on-a-lake and GT tonight? If Clem gives too much love to GT's rush, look for GT to hit a long pass or two.
Part of the problem is that the UGA fans are starting to worry about the "other team" in the state and now their coach ain't good enough....sound familiar?
Sign of the Apocalypse ...
http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/wayoflife/09/10/bizarre.fantasy.football.companies/index.html
UGA is as bad as Bama in the respect that every mouth-breathing Joe Blow in the state that can turn on a TV is a "die hard" UGA fan.
AllenD...ponder a while before you pick against Paul Johnson....that is unless GT is playing LSU.
uga is saying this afternoon that Joe Cox may have a "tired arm".
Exactly Hoopie. Although I don't know if UGA has a coup planned in the background
Hoopie, our offensive offense was in the game until late against Georgia. Georgia had two first round draft picks in the backfield. If I were a Georgia fan, I would wonder what is going on.
As the highly rated recruiting classes, I don't buy into that too much. You can judge a recruiting class much better by how many of them make it to the pros. Walter Payton played his college ball at Jackson State, which I assume means he wasn't a high profile recruit, but he turned into a pretty good pro player.
UGA fans generally aren't as ignorant, arrogant or as prevalent in their home state.
The question is: Where was UGA before Richt?
They were stupid to get rid of Jim Donnan so quickly.
I have to agree. Donnan wasn't a bad coach either.
Steve..Those guys had NO blocking. UGA has had the most incredible bad luck with OL for the past 3-4 years. They have hardly been able to get an OL to make it to the Sr class. Grades, arrests and rediculous injuries are the cause. UGA lost 3 of the 5 Ol starters and the 2 best backups from spring 2008 until the first game.
They lost Trindon Sturdivant..again...early in the OK St game.
One of my daughter's best friends was a 4 star that started as a RFr and So. He got his 4th concussion and was made to quit.
Regardless of my defense of the OL, as I mentioned above, I agree that CMR has still done less with more than most anyone else in the time period.
40% Chance of rain on the plains Saturday. High of 80.
I think they made the right choice on Donnan and backed it up with a good hire of Richt. The fact is they've still won ten games a year six of the last seven years and as disastrous as things look after one game, it is, in fact, only one game.
bring on the rain. let it pour i say!
Hoopie, the offensive line is much more important than most give it credit for being. We were as bad as we were last season largely because of the offensive line. The evil empire was probably the best example of a team depending upon the offensive line for success.
Scottie: No LCD.
I was warned.
sorry JG. bummer.
I think rain favors MSU, although we will both try to run the football. Rain has a way of evening up talent differences and the MSU secondary is the question mark of their defense. Even Jax State burned them for a couple of long throws.
The UGA football program under CMR is one of the wealthiest in the nation.
There were whispers of CMR being "too soft" last season. Those whispers will turn into discussions if things don't get better.
My guess is that a coup would not be in the works this season.
MonD...many old time UGA folks hated Donnan. They felt that he only knew how to win by pursuing and harboring thugs. I was surprised at the animosity.
Donnan may not have been the right coach for UGA, but he is a good dude. He is one of my favorite analysts out there right now.
It happens.
I don't ignore warnings. I did once. Once.
I saw on an MSU chat where a hack was asked what is the strength of our team. He said the defensive line, primarily the defensive ends. Personally, I think it is the DBs. If Bates turns out to be as good as I think, this could end up being the best set of DBs I can remember us having, the exception possibly being 2004.
Based on Saturday, I would go with the D-Line as our stength on defense. I thought they were pretty dominant compared to any other unit, maybe both sides of the ball. I'd give it to the guys in the trenches on both sides of the ball, albeit based off of only one game.
Donnan is a good guy (for a coach) IMHO. Hung out with him a couple of times when he was at Marshall.
PUPPET HOUR!!! AAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!
Donnan didn't beat GT as consistently as expected and had a hard time with the bulldog call-in shows. Got the fan base down on him pretty quickly.
Michael...
I think you'll enjoy this.
Good point Allen. Meanwhile, Richt lost for the first time to Tech last year. The only part of Donnan's record that Richt hasn't improved (greatly) is Florida, and there's no way around it, he's failed there. It's one thing to lose to Florida now, but he was losing to UF in the Ron Zook era.
Ron Zook is another good coach that got canned too early, although it worked out well for them.
Steve....given the choice of a good OL vs offensive skill players...I'll take the OL. The play starts with, and much of it's success depends on the OL.
TV cameras follow the ball, therefore fans tend to watch accordingly. In routine situations, I start the play watching the line and then pick the ball when it actually starts to go somewhere. Long yardage downs..I follow the ball.
We agree Hoopie. I will go with a good offensive line any day. There are few skill players that can change a game without a good offensive line.
The stock marker did well again today. This economy may not stink as bad as some believe, but with many watching it from the sideline, there is still improvements to be made.
I've always felt like the UGA program has somewhat under-achieved. They have excellent financial resources and a recruiting base as good as most anyone in the country to pull players from. They just never seem to be able to cross over to that elite level.
After hearing the Chizik's little video on goldberg's blog I figured out, on my own, what 'Doing what we do' implied. Mom must be proud.
Dangit. None of you were nice enough to tell me.
why is there a 12 year old anchoring the ESPNU recruiting show and why is his tie wider than his head?
Donnan was a good recruiter...but a horrbile in game coach.
Look at our goal line stand against them in 2001. Horrible play calling. You never set yourself up to run out of time with downs left to use.
Following up: I knew DWWD meant 'Doing what we do', but I didn't know what it implied.
Steve....the stock market is an indicator or corporate profits, which is not necesarily an indicator of how the overall economy is doing. The huge layoffs have resulted in a windfall for corporations and record unemployment. The increasing Federal debt will cause inflation adn erode those corporate profits and stock prices in a few years. I would keep my stock market investments "nimble".
If you are in real estate like I am....er...was, there ain't no money left to invest.
that dude has the widest freakin' ties. what is he thinking, it's GQ-U? my goodness.
right?!?
If you have long-term money to invest and know that you won't need the cash, you can buy distressed real estate for 20% of original value in some markets. The real estate market won't recover until the devalution stops. Bush's Oil Boyz in Tejas are flush with cash from the stunts that Bush allowed, but won't jump in and buy up the distressed properties until they are sure we've hit bottom.
RIGHT!!!!!!!
My UPS man brought me a whole box of Auburn goodies today!!!
I'm so happy.
spill it. what's in the box?
Hoop, I think also that Corps wrote off what could be written off last year, and there will be nothing but "CHF" staring them in the face in the coming reporting sessions.
A new flag that hangs in our front lawn.
2 new car flags
An extremely cool hanging, wind twister thingy - that's for my back patio
A draw string back pack
An insulated tote bag
ooooh, lots of goodies. nice!
hoopie, I agree with that inflation is coming and the dollar will devalued. Investing in overseas makes since these days. Anything not tied to the dollar works for me.
Finally, tonight the big boys kick off. Here We Go Steelers, Here We Go!!! I'll have to get my Big Ben jersey out of storage.
Everybody was flying their Steelers stuff around here today. It's Steelers or Bengals everywhere you turn in this neck of the woods.
Scottie do you see what he has on NOW?
I laid out my #7 just a few minutes ago, should be a good one.
I LOVE me some MON D!!
I LOVE me some EZ right back!
nah, i missed it. i stepped out for a bit with my kids. i'll turn on the u. THE U!!!!!!!!!
Monnie....OMG! did he just leave a Green Day concert from the mid 90's. ha!
he's a big ole walking
dubya
tee
eff
?
even Tucker's laughing at him!
My cornhole bags were delivered today. 4 beautiful navy blue and 4 hideous RED! I am so not a happy woman.
I was wondering about your bags as I was opening my package, Cincy!
I'm sorry that messed that up. grrrr
And someone tell me why, why, why I listen to fbomb? Today he was skewering Chizik for allowing Eric Smith to play. But I heard nary a word about Saban not even having his arrested player miss a single practice. Bammers were calling in and licking Paul;s booty - even more than usual. I feel sick.
Cornhole what?
The cornhole game - you know, where you pitch 1 pound bags of corn into a hole? Kind of like bean bags for adults.
Monica,
I'm glad your package was so fun!
Cincy you reading you saying "licking Paul's booty" = me spewing tea
lol
I can't even type! HAHAHA
EZ just visit www.cornhole.com
:-)
I know fbomb is doing exactly what he wants to do when he makes me so angry, so I don't know why I let him. You should have heard the show today.
Actually, I did hear him today Cincy and it was so irritating even I had to turn him off. What I really hate is when Auburn fans call in and give him fuel. Some of them are so embarrassing.
Cincy....that was a riot! Not only are Bammers considered cousin humpers....they are Booty Lickers!!.
Don't let Finebaum make you angry. There are stupid people in this world. The only thing you can do about it is try not to be one of them.
The telephone was going too much for me to have PF on today...I may have called in on this one.
PF.....Doling out double standards will cause me to whip-out a Hoopie diatribe on your A@@hat..
Gotta cool down...forthcoming dinner with Mrs. Hoopie. Later
I use to have interesting thoughts listening to Finebaum. Calling in wasn't one of them. Stop listening won out.
13 Minutes until GaTech vs Clemson
Hi Guys
Can't post too much, but I also heard the Fbaum show today and was yelling mad (on the inside) as well.
What gets me is the lack of basic R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
Finebaum allows a convicted murderer (aka 'The Legend') to come on his show and refer to Auburn as "cow college" every single day.
If the only institution that a person has been a part of in the state of Alabama is a prison, then they don't get to make fun of a 'rival school'.
I don't know how anyone can muster the patience to listen to finebum and the bumlickers.
Well, unless you are just laughing at the picture of finebum sitting with saban in a boat the size of my bathtub
At some point in time I'll find better pics of this extremely uncomfortable romantic moment.
I am not going to post ten comments just to get to SPARTA
as in Greece?
Three bills.
Clemons Community College's purple on purple unis look like a melted grapesicle.
Horrible.
they look more bluey than purply on my tv
Uglier that Jan Terri in a bikini.
Let's go Clemson....Dabo is a good guy.
Dabo is one of yours, FSJ.
I'm pulling for the former SEC team
He's still a good guy..even if he is a Bammer.
He's overcome a lot in his life to get to this point.
He may or may not be worth a flip as a coach but I hope he does well.
Paul Johnson looks like a country high school coach who'd drool some tobacco juice on his shirt.
Just sayin'.
And add to that the fact that I can't stand Ga. Tech...
I often wonder about the plays that teams run on fourth down.
Interception bails em out though.
Lieutenant Hondo....Jim Street will be reporting for duty at 1300.
yep, 4th and that short with as much weight adv. should have just plowed straight ahead
wow
Coach Steele's defense is tough...
Glad to see that Clemson has figured out the option attack of Tech in the second year.
Why waste a timeout? Why?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
This comment has been removed by the author.
I'll go ahead and say it, Georgia Tech is the best in the ACC. I felt that going into the season, and nothing is changing my perception right now.
quit posting on an old thread. Join the in crowd on the new one
Clemson = self destruct.
If I were a Clemson fan, I would want to kill that giddy announcer. Actually, they all sound like they are just tickled to death that Clemson has turned into a shop vac.
