Late Monday chatter, 9/7

Hey everyone. Practice ended around 9:20 p.m. CDT.

Here's some notable stuff discussed today:
  • Defensive coordinator Ted Roof said freshman S Daren Bates will start against Mississippi State. That wasn't a one-time thing.

  • Roof said he was happy with DE Nick Fairley's work against Louisiana Tech, but it was flawed. The Mobile native earned high marks for production. His assignment marks were much lower. He's still expected to start against MSU.

  • CB Walt McFadden said he was worried after being flagged for pass interference during the Louisiana Tech game. McFadden watched coach Gene Chizik throw a tantrum along the sideline and assumed he was the target. He soon realized that Chizik felt officials were at fault.

``He ran at the referee and that's when I started saying: `Yeah, yeah, referee, take that.' But (Chizik) has my back. He spoke with me after the play, he even spoke to me today, he went over there and re-watched it and telling me it was just a good play -- a bad call -- but we've got to live with those plays sometimes."

  • Don't look for LB Josh Bynes to sign up for a Twitter account anytime soon. ``I don't even know what it is. I've been hearing about it, but I don't know what it is. What is a Twitter?"

Told that it's a way to speak to your peeps, Bynes said: ``I don't speak to the peeps. I just do my own stuff."

  • LB Adam Herring on the feeling along the sideline Saturday night: ``It was a sense of pride. We were taking pride in what we were doing at that point -- when we were realizing we were stoning them. It just felt good to know what we were doing. Eleven hats swarming to the ball, that's a sight."

  2. I like the way Bynes thinks

    ReplyDelete
  3. speaking of Chiz's reaction, I loved the photo of him with both feet off the ground. Looked like a great tantrum!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I like that one also.

    ReplyDelete
  5. He was mighty angry.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Wasn't that ref who made that call a former Bama player?

    ReplyDelete
  7. A well-time tantrum is nice.

    Very nice.

    Woot.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Love Adam's quote.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I love that intensity. And standing up for your players. I think that says a lot to them.

    ReplyDelete
  10. rightfully so. Absolutely a ridiculously bad call.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Kathy: Yes.

Quentin Riggins was very quick to make that assessment.

(I was listening to the live feed.)

    ReplyDelete
  12. Guess I am off to bed. Very early morning tomorrow. Or early by some people's standards - not THT's!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I like peeps at Easter.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Thanks JGT. It was a terrible call.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Do you blow them up in the microwave?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't say peeps, but I I think that's a good call for a football player guy.

    ReplyDelete
  17. pardon my stuttering

    peter makes me nervous

    ReplyDelete
  18. THT, made mention of it last thread. if you'r craving Cabos, and in the Jacksonville area, they just opened up a place at the beach about a year ago. I've never been to the one in talley, but the Jax store was mighty fine.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Cincy,

You got me going on the last thread with your game, I ain't taking the bait on the microwave.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Good night cincy! I probably should get some sleep too. I have to give MrsTHT a ride to work and she has to be there by 5 a.m. EDT

    Good night, Hotties!

    ReplyDelete
  21. that child is terrified of something.

    ReplyDelete
  22. IV,
Haven't you ever put peeps in the microwave and watched them expand hugely and then collapse when you take them out? What kind of sheltered life have you led?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Are you still in Auburn Jay?

    ReplyDelete
  24. My goal is to make a video tonight, but there will be a twist.

I won't debut it until tomorrow morning. We don't get many visitors from 10 p.m.-5 a.m.

So I'll load it and set it for a 5 a.m. debut. Aiight?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I am in Auburn currently and will remain here for at least another hour.

Then I have to be back for the 11:30 a.m. presser. I guess that means no morning workout!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wow, I must have. Do they play your game in prisons alot?

    ReplyDelete
  27. You know what? I'm having second thoughts about the video.

Since we'll be LIVE BLOGGING at 11:30 a.m., I'd hate for the video to be available for only six hours.

    Hmmmm.

    ReplyDelete
  28. LET ME OFF THIS ROLLER COASTER!

    ReplyDelete
  29. IV,
I really have led a very sheltered life. Thankfully I have never seen a jail or a prison. Not sure if they play cornhole or explode peeps in the microwave in prison. Don't think I want to find out.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Cincy,

You are cracking me up, I mean cracking me up.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Glad to be useful for something.

    ReplyDelete
  32. J-Z,

Can you hear me laughing over on your side of town?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Late night vid, Jay! Do it!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Cincy,

I love you, just love you.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Love you, too, IV. Now I am off to bed to dream about my new orange and blue cornhole bags. :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Molly dog has been out; I might as well watch the end of the game.

Next Monday when I am incarcerated, I can assure you that I will not be asking anyone where I can find a good game of cornhole.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Bless you THT.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Complete or incomplete THT?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm gonna call it complete

    ReplyDelete
  40. They should make me a replay ref.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Go to bed Cincy.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Everyone here is going for the noles, right?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I am like J-Z, can they both lose?

    ReplyDelete
  44. I strongly dislike FSU. Hate is reserved for Bama and Florida.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Announcers keep talking about how the missed extra point has had a profound effect on the game... but they went for two later and got it. It has no effect on the current score.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I don't like either team here, but I'd prefer FSU to lose.

    ReplyDelete
  47. PF, and enemy of Florida and Miami should be a friend to you.

I lived in Tallahassee when I was young and grew up an FSU fan. They were my first true love.

    ReplyDelete
  48. they don't know what they are talking about.

I really don't care who wins.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Is this team going to be doing SEC games this year? I would hate to miss out on Todd's Taste of the Town. Something so creepy about it when Todd takes that bite and makes that face.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I want the ranked team to lose.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Michael - JGT is pulling for UM

    ReplyDelete
  52. Well Jay G can go kiss Jan Terri for all I care.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Talley is weird. The students are weird. Bowden is annoying. The program is as corrupt as any, and the players are almost as thug as the U's were in the 90s. Nope. No love for FSU here. Oh, and I don't care for Doak Campbell Stadium, either.

but, they are less vile than florida. I guess most of the time i'm apathetic towards them.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Brad Nessler is a huge upgrade from Mike Patrick for Todd Blackledge.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I grew up a FSU fan also... I don't have a good feeling right now.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Miami would be wise to never do pass interference in the end zone again. Remember the Ohio State game?

    ReplyDelete
  57. "i'm not sure that makes much of a difference"

???????? What an idiot. I don't care for Nessler AT ALL.

    ReplyDelete
  58. This has turned out to be a pretty doggone good game...

    ReplyDelete
  59. He's no genius, but he is still a step up from patrick

    ReplyDelete
  60. How do you have 7 tries from inside the 5 and fail?

    ReplyDelete
  61. game would have been over by now without the interference call. OF COURSE IT MADE A DIFFERENCE! FSU has run 3 more plays they wouldn't have had.

    ...and still lost

    ReplyDelete
  62. The end of that series was an abortion. What in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Put 1 second on the board and let em have another chance...

    ReplyDelete
  64. SEVEN TRIES! You deserve to lose if you can't get the ball less than 5 yards in 7 tries.

    ReplyDelete
  65. There was 1 second left in my opinion. Time did not expire. Refs must be Miami grads.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Should be 1 more play... but FSU doesn't deserve another chance, that was pathetic

    ReplyDelete
  67. Very close to my first r rated HABOTN post. I've cooled though. It's cool.

    ReplyDelete
  68. my condolences, Michael.

    ReplyDelete
  69. "Bad funny bone incident"

so it was an incident. That's funny. There was an incident. It included a funny bone. It was bad

Nice interview by the victim Erin Andrews. So victimized she decides to go on Oprah a month later to remind everyone of the incident, which had been forgotten about, which involved a video she didn't want anyone to see.

    ReplyDelete
  70. oh, was it only six tries? my bad.

    ReplyDelete
  71. the ACC plays slow football with bad defense...some of the passing was pretty, though.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I think AU could take either one of those teams tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I dunno PF. Miami and FSU have been putting a lot more defenders in the NFL than offensive players the past few years. But this year looks like it will be different.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I think AU, FSU, and Miami are all around the same strata... probably between ranked between 20-25 or so.

Of course, this is based on evidence from the La Tech game.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I didn't mention the past or the NFL. What are you babbling about?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Sorry Latin majors for using "strata" instead of "stratum". It's a blog comment, lay off me.

    ReplyDelete
  77. the FSU receiver tried to catch the ball with his facemask. Did Greg Knox go to FSU instead of Miss?

    ReplyDelete
  78. so, does Miami make it through four straight games vs top 25 opponents?

    ReplyDelete
  79. ok, I've got to take MrsTHT to work in 4.5 hours. Good night Hotties. Enjoy the late night video.

    ReplyDelete
  80. G'night Hotties.

    ReplyDelete
  81. "the ACC plays slow football with bad defense"

Seems like that was a reaction to the teams tonight, which historically play good defense, so maybe the offenses were just that good and your summary was wholly invalid, peter frankenbummer. Even in their slumps as of late, I wouldn't call it "slow football" at these two schools, just bad football. Bad football played by fast people.

Past that, the ACC doesn't really have an identity to me like the Big 12, Big 10, or Pac 10. Lots of different identities, lots of mediocrity.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Where's my darn video? Jay, I don't really want you kissing Jan Terri, that was just a joke.

"...when we were realizing we were stoning them. It just felt good to know what we were doing. Eleven hats swarming to the ball, that's a sight."

Please tell me Mr. Herring gets the quote spot for that beauty.

    ReplyDelete
  84. The video is uploading.

It will be live around ... uh ... let's call it 11:37 p.m. CDT.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'm working on my AP poll.

    25. Notre Dame

    ReplyDelete
  86. Your feedback means a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Anonymous6:57 AM

    Notre Dame should be higher.

Rutgers shouldn't be there at all. Cincinnati should be in the Top 25.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I agree with sensi... Rutgers got Routed... replace with Cincy and the list looks good.

I might even switch Boise and Oklahoma.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I agree, swat Rutgers out with Cincy and move Boise ahead of OK. Without Bradford, OK is not a powerful team.
