Thursday Night LIVE

Welcome. We're watching Georgia Tech @ Miami ... and listening to Tiger Talk on radio affiliates throughout Alabama.

CURRENT SCORE (game is on ESPN HD)

MIAMI - 33

GEORGIA TECH - 17

Final

TIGER TALK TIDBITS
  • Gene Chizik and Rod are eating steamed mussels and meat lover's pizza. Important stuff first.

  • On this week's work: "I thought the focus was really high and I thought our football team (thanks, RK) practiced well this week."

  • The MSU win: ``It was really good to see our football realy go up and go back down. You want to find out how they respond to negative circumstances."

  • On his weird punt formation: ``It gets speed guys, on the snap, down the field for coverage. It's a coverage advantage. We just have to block it better. We worked on it hard this week."

  • On the Meerkat Manor® business: ``It's strategically an advantage for our offense. We line up like we're going to run a play, then we see what the defense is running. Then we get ourselves into a better play."

  • On the team's defensive backs: ``We're going through some growing pains. They're coming along. When you have a mixture of so many young guys on the defense, the continuity struggles a little bit. You've got your Dee Fords playing, your Daren Bates playing. Demond Washington is a new guy. The more experience they get, the better they'll be."

  • On TBs and WRs: ``We're a work in progress. Right now, we're pleased with the direction we're headed. We've had some production there. We've got to have them do it 12 (games). Then after that -- the postseason as well."

  • On the crowd at J-H: ``I'm urging our fans ... it's going to take all 87,000 and it's going to take us playing a great game on top of that. I'm challenging all our people to bring it to a new level Saturday night."

  • On WVU: ``This is right up their alley -- a physical-type game. They've got confidence. They played Auburn last year."

  • On assistants' recruiting areas: ``We've got most of our coaches in the state of Alabama. We have two in Birmingham (Thigpen and Taylor), Coach Luper kind of has Mobile and he splits that area with Jeff Grimes. Boulware has Montgomery and close to Auburn. (Phillip Lolley handles north Alabama.) The amount of hours they spend are insignificant. They just want to win. That's what recruiting is about."

  • On Eltoro Freeman: ``Toro is, since we started practice, he's had a lot of ups and downs because of injury issues. It was great to see him wean himself into the game last week. We think little but little ... he can play more and more."

  • On the defense and Chizik's role with the defense: ``It's really just going what we do every day and doing it better. We're not re-inventing the wheel. What I've learned over the years with all the great defenses I've been with, continuity is the key. Coach Roof and I consult on a lot of things. I hire great coaches. He's great at his trade. I have great people and we'll get better. I don't have to micro-manage anything. I have the big-picture look."

  • On the freshman WRs: ``I'm really, really proud of those three guys. (Benton, Blake and Gulley) This is a work in progress with them. People think when receivers come in that their job is to catch the ball. That's it. That's not true. We run the ball, too. The wide receivers are responsible for blocking the (final) 95 yards. Those three are getting there. They're not there. You'll see them progress a little more week by week by week."

  • Now it's dessert time for Gene and Rod. Sounds like they're getting some "light" chocolate mousse. Important news.

  • On how Auburn fans are smart: ``I get a lot of great questions. I hear them a lot. The Auburn faithful -- they're very educated about football and they know the game."

  • On injuries: ``Day by day on a lot of guys. I just ... you never know who's listening. You never want someone to know if someone is going to be out. It's not fair to the young man or their families."

(NOTE: Chizik's position on Aairon Savage is that he's DAY-BY-DAY ... with a torn Achilles.)

  • On Tim Hawthorne: ``We want Tim back as soon as we can get Tim back. He's worked really hard. He's done all the things we've asked. He's dying inside to play. He has a lot of urgency to get back."

  • On the freshmen WRs AGAIN (please shoot me): ``Dontae is really going to be a very good football player. Our plan right now is to redshirt him. He's our "look team" (scout team) player of the week this week. He did a good job of playing Noel Devine. I told him at practice at how proud I was of him assuming a role ... that's a lot of dirty work. He plugged in there and did what we asked him to do."

  • Kathy, not OUR Kathy, loves the offensive line: ``They appreciate that. You wanna talk about a dirty job? I don't believe in bad luck, but they haven't give up a sack. (Applause) The cool thing is, from my chair, is to watch them come together and play with chemistry. Why is that? There's a lot of ingredients to make that cake. They've delivered. They wear people down. You can really see a difference in the third quarter."

  • Dan from Montgomery is a WVU grad, but he's an Auburn fan at heart. He wants Auburn fans to show class for WVU. Oh, wait. That wasn't a question. Dan doesn't want Noel Devine to beat that butt again: ``Great question. He's a great running back. He rushed for 200 yards last year, Rod, but that was last year. I feel really good in our plan. We've got a good grip on what we need to do to be successful."

  • Dave from Opelika wants to know if FAH is durable: ``He's a tough young'un. Time will tell. I think he's very durable. There's nobody on our team who is tougher. He's been through a lot. Those two (FAH and Ben Tate) are in the mix. They'll always be in the mix."

  • On recruits: "We have some great recruits coming this weekend. It's going to be very important for our crowd to bring their 'A' game - not just for this game, but for the future of Auburn. It's going to take everybody to win."

  • "War Eagle."

  • THAT'S A WRAP.

  1. I take it back, I like Miami in a rout.

    ReplyDelete
  2. NOT 1st

Typed my dang Username wrong!!! Cost me a step.

    ReplyDelete
  3. GT is going to take them. They are the most manly football team and you can't win with a coordinator named Whipple. That just isn't right.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Miami's offense is looking good. They too are much improved from last year. Sorry Pat Nix, you are not a good OC.

    ReplyDelete
  5. The knock I have on GT and their offense is this, when the score gets down by more than 2 scores, what do you do??? That's a problem, especially since they have no threat of a passing game.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Where's the blog preview Eddie?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Posted this on the last thread, but will repost it here:

Just had a friend email me and ask about seats on Row 5 in Jordan Hare. Wondering if they are too low to see anything? Has anyone sat down that low that could give me feedback?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Being down a couple of scores wasn't an issue for Tech last year against UGA.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Cincy- That's way too low. Hard to see anything. You will spend most of the game watching from Jumbotron. Need to be at least 10 rows up to actually see.

Brother- I have done all the research, but just haven't posted it. Not sure if anyone reads it. I'll get it out there tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Miami sure made that look good on offense
And now the Defense gets a stop

    ReplyDelete
  11. Brother- Let me clarify, I mean down by 2 scores in the second half. Your right, they have time to not get out their offense early. That Georgia game is still crazy that UGA lost it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Interesting strategy to give the ball to GT at the 40 yd line every possession.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Cincy, we use to sit around rows 4 or 5 right behind the Auburn bench. It wasn't ideal in that sometimes you have to stand up the whole time to see over the players/coaches, but it's not something that bothered us greatly. I mean, if your friend can get tickets a little big higher, tell them to do it, but it's not like I would never do it again or anything.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Miami like most of the ACC teams will now force GT to throw the ball in order to move it. They will stack the box and force the pitch with guys waiting a majority of the time.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Husband came home with a 52" Samsung 750 LCD just in time for kickoff! I thought my Sony Bravia XBR was good, but this picture blows that one away. After this game is over, I'm going to have to watch last week's Auburn game that's on the DVR.

    ReplyDelete
  16. cincy - I agree with Eddie. Too low, no go.

    ReplyDelete
  17. AUFAN- Judging by the Kicker's reaction, i'm betting that was not intentional in kicking the ball out of bounds.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Check out my bas-ass logos on the front page.

    ReplyDelete
  19. wow, could Mustain jump all the way up to the back-up QB position this week?

    ReplyDelete
  20. yikes, JGT - keep that bug away from me!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Cincy, tell your friends to use the tix to get in the stadium and then find open seats later.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Open seats Kristina? You think there will be empty seats this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  23. We could all be a bammer like Sensi this week and sell our tickets.....

    ReplyDelete
  24. Are we going to need boats to get to Auburn Saturday? We've had lots of rain in North Alabama.

    ReplyDelete
  25. no seats up in the upper deck corners? They've been empty both games thus far.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Kristina thank you so much for the shirt, got it today.
Very good quality and love the HABOTN

    ReplyDelete
  27. Cincy,

I have sat that low before and I couldn't see much. Thank goodness for the jumbo-tron. I like to be up at least around row 30 in order to to see the whole field.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Miami's passing looks like Auburn's. Throw it deep every throw.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thanks for the advice on the seating. I have passed it on.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Harris is feast or famine on his passes, unless its a called screen.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I've wondered the same thing, Jane. Theoretically, that sounds good.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anonymous7:17 PM

Eddie...stacking the box to make them throw = 2007 &2008 AU nightmares.

THT..This La Parilla is in the new Publix center at Cedarcrest Rd/US41= worthy

Green Lantern = Cheese biscuits (long ago)

    ReplyDelete
  33. In philosophy, it opens the flood gates for rushing the punter.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Finally, i get to see the infamous Bret Farve commercial. It's good.

    ReplyDelete
  35. i thought the meerkat question was pretty dumb. It's not like they do it nearly as much or as repulsively as The Franklin Experiment.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Jay,

Do you think that Coach Chizik is upset with Coach Boulware about our special team play so far?

    ReplyDelete
  37. So, is there really a huge sign in the RV Lot at Donahue that says "Welcome Brokeback Mountainers"?

    ReplyDelete
  38. IV: Probably not because Chizik is Boulware's mentor. It's not like Boulware is out there running his own stuff. He's running stuff he learned from Chizik.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The Meerkat Manor question wasn't bad ... it was just phrased awkwardly.

    TOUCHDOWN CANES

    ReplyDelete
  40. Jay, That sounds reasonable but boy, the special team play has been our weak link so far,.

    ReplyDelete
  41. This could get ugly

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well, does GT fight back???

    ReplyDelete
  43. yum, MrsTHT just let me lick the chocolate chip cookie dough bowl and beaters.

    ReplyDelete
  44. THT you have a very good wife.

    ReplyDelete
  45. If they look good so far this week we must be mudders... come on rain Sat. Not really I hate sitting in rain to watch a game

    ReplyDelete
  46. JayGT - very good point. I retract my statement.

You want noise, Coach Chizik? I'll give you some noise!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Kathy - thank you. I agree wholeheartedly.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Everyone's favorite rain game experience at Jordan-Hare?

    Mine is 1993 against Florida.

    ReplyDelete
  49. That will get you beat

    ReplyDelete
  50. AU has lost every rainy or sleety game I've attended in Auburn, which isn't very many.

My favorite rainy game I attended elsewhere? The 1983 Iron Bowl

    ReplyDelete
  51. Big break for Tech

    ReplyDelete
  52. Looks like Miami has the GT running game figured out. I believe that Tech will have to throw to open up the run.

    ReplyDelete
  53. did Tech just run the "wrong way Bo play"? That looked messed up.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I am not sure Tech has a passing game however.

    ReplyDelete
  55. WHAT UP EVERYONE!

    ReplyDelete
  56. You're welcome, Digger. Glad it worked out!

FYI, we have decided to go low key/low tech this weekend. So don't expect much if you stop by Saturday.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I love this I got the U -4

    ReplyDelete
  58. Kristina - but you'll still have the usual game day fare of beef tenderloin, lobster, and shrimp cocktail, right?

    ReplyDelete
  59. seriously how many times can you show the same chic-fil-a commercial?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Holla Jay G from ya boy JD

    ReplyDelete
  61. Anonymous7:41 PM

Cincy..don't sit low. The line play in a grinding running game can be viewed OK from down low. The high movement, misdirection and passing game we play now is best viewed from higher up.

Got lucky and watched the 1983 AU-UF game from the 2nd row, SW endzone. Much of the game was played at that endzone. AU knocked Wayne Peace out of bounds at the 6" line on 4th down to win 28-21.

    ReplyDelete
  62. how many times can Coach Chizik say "work in progress"?

GA Tech way out of balance on offense. They are doomed unless they can figure out how to even up the scales.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Knock Knock...Jahovah's Witness...Candy Gram...

    ReplyDelete
  64. Jay,

Have you heard anything about the recruits that may be visiting this weekend? I have seen rumors on other blogs, but because they are rumors, I want repeat them here.

    ReplyDelete
  65. That was a great game Hoopie. We watched it on tv in our B'ham apt. It was the only home game we missed that year. We made it to a couple of road games that year.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I hope Chizik means by no micromanagement is HE WILL KEEP HANDS OFF THE OFFENSE

    ReplyDelete
  67. THT, GT reminds me of watching AU run the wishbone under Coach Dye. The offense can be very effective, but it is difficult to come back once you get behind.

    ReplyDelete
  68. JayGT - you are prophetic! You type Coach Chizik's responses before I even hear them!!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Tech has had great field position and done nothing with it.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I listen to him a lot, THT.

    I can see what's coming.

    ReplyDelete
  71. IV: I haven't paid a lot of attention to recruiting lately.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Anonymous7:51 PM

THT..we drove 11 hours one way from Naples, Fl. to AU for 3 home games that year. Up on Fri nite/back on Sunday. We were young. Your trips from NC now, at our age, are admirable.

    ReplyDelete
  73. If Chizik is that predictable I am glad he is not caller the offensive plays

    ReplyDelete
  74. HOTTIES: If you have a friend or work associate who asks you about Dontae Aycock, I'll pay you $5 to slap them.

He's redshirting. He's not going to play. GIVE IT UP.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I still treat it as rumors, but if the rumors turn out to be anyway close to reality, this could be one of the most important game weekend recruiting events in the recent past.

    ReplyDelete
  76. When you have the offensive balance that Miami is showing right now with some good athletes the pro style offense is unstoppable and will wear a defense out. It is a true thing of beauty to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Please shoot me for saying GT was the best in the ACC last week. I think I was off my meds. Boy have I been fooled. They are about to get taken to the woodshed.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Wonder how many people I would have to slap to earn enough money to buy my condo on Magnolia? :)

    ReplyDelete
  79. HOly Cow!! Hoopie!!! That is crazy! There's no way we could have done that.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Anonymous7:54 PM

JGT....ya think Aycock will get some reps this weekend?

    ReplyDelete
  81. I agree JD about the beauty of the pro-style offense with players.

Recruiting- According to Rivals, Reed, Dyer & Mosely are coming to the game along with a few others. Could be a huge weekend, or could be nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Harris and Todd seem similar in ways, in 3rd & 6, don't go for the home run ball, just get the 1st down.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Chizik just addressed recruits.

Sort of. No names, of course.

HOOPIE: I expect better from you.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Cincy your hand would fall off before you could get that much

    ReplyDelete
  85. Jay G have there not been many questions asked this week regarding the issues we have had in the first two weeks dealing with returning punts?

    ReplyDelete
  86. Eddie,

That is mostly what I had read along with most of our commits. That is why I asked Jay the question because I consider that to be rumors until our man confirms it.

    ReplyDelete
  87. To think, some people (ESPN) thought Miami might start off 0-4 this season. If they continue this way tonight and then beat the Hokies next week, it'll be a big time matchup when the Sooners come to town Oct. 3. Like the 1980s all over again.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I agree with that insite eddie. However I believe that when Harris goes for the short pass it is because he believes that is statistically the best throw. Sometimes I get the vibe from Todd that he is hesitant to throw the deep ball.

    ReplyDelete
  89. IV: If Rivals or P-Marsh or Jason Caldwell reports something about recruiting, I take it to the bank.

    ReplyDelete
  90. IV- Rivals has confirmed this from the recruits, which technically is the only people you can get this confirmation from since coaches cannot address individual recruits specifically.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Live Blogger Tate: Thanks for that great coverage. I lost focus a few times so it was really nice to have Tate's Tiger Tidbits for reference.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I buy that JD, but Todd has passed a lot of wide open receivers short to throw into double coverage this year. I'm sure Malzahn has worked with him on this, so I hope he improves. I hope he also doesn't throw the ball off his back foot like he has been doing.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Does 73 play for Tech?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Eddie look at Miami's schedule like this. What seemed like a no shot 4 game schedule looks now like:

    FSU-Won
    GT-Leading 17-3 in the second
Oklahoma-Loss to BYU week 1 and Sam Bradford will be making first appearance.
VT-if they lose to Nebraska this week how hurt will that teams morale be going into Miami?

If Randy Shannon goes 4-0 against a schedule that many said he would go 0-4 against, he will be a Coach of the Year candidate.

    ReplyDelete
  95. well, this certainly isn't shaping up to be as entertaining as the U vs FSU game.

Could we have a GT vs Clemson replay with GT's role reversed? I don't see how.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Anonymous8:03 PM

IV...not to speak for Jay, but if I remember correctly he doesn't chase recruiting rumors....something along the lines of not trying to follow the whims of 17 year olds. He will, however pass on reports from other services regarding commits and credit the source.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Chizik said Auburn fans are educated about football and know the game.....It's nice of him to recognize the faithful of HABOTN specifically.

    ReplyDelete
  98. JD- If Shannon does that, he deserves it. I'm also very impressed with their OC, Whipple, he has been the difference so far this year, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Anonymous8:04 PM

    Evening peeps!

    ReplyDelete
  100. JGT...
Front page graphics are pretty sweet BTW.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Georgia Tech has a lineman with the last name Uzzi. I love it. If he were a DE he could be "the assassin"

    ReplyDelete
  102. Dang, what is with the helmets coming off this season?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Nice hit by #58 of Miami. I love those hits.

    ReplyDelete
  104. CLACK Nice crack back at second base!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Eddie's Brother, if that happens, maybe the U can draw 50,000 for the Oklahoma game. It never fails to amaze me how few fans they draw for their home games. Guess there are too many other options in south Fla.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Is there any chance we can hire Pat Nix on our staff and give him the "Steve Ensminger" treatement? Make a position for him?

    ReplyDelete
  107. JD, if Miami wins the next two games (after tonight), their schedule actually sets them up for a national title run. UNC away would have to be the only game that really scares them after OU.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Anonymous8:08 PM

Sounds like CGC is tempering the AU fans' enthusiasm. He uses much more tact than Lil' Nicky while doing such.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Jay, I also love our offensive line!

    ReplyDelete
  110. I love when people show the big uglies love!!!! This Auburn OL deserves it.

    ReplyDelete
  111. JD - please don't even think thoughts like that.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Half time OFFICE TIME!

    ReplyDelete
  113. John Lovett- A blast from the past.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Agree AUfan. Miami's support has always been a joke, considering all the national championships they've won the last thirty years. Miami seems like the worst sports town in America. Marlins attendance is ridonculous. Even the Miami Heat had empty seats this year during the NBA playoffs. It seems like only the Dolphins get consistent support.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Anonymous8:10 PM

Mosr folks that live on the Fla SE coast are from the NE US. Those folks don't follow CFB.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Jay G your girl is looking very nice tonight...

    ReplyDelete
  117. Hoopie,

Jay just confirmed what you just said. Better still, Coach Chizik said as much as he could about the recruits this weekend and he said the same thing I offered earlier, this could be a big weekend for both the present and the future. I appreciate Jay's position on recruiting, but I don't think I asked him anything off the wall, just did he have any idea about the possibility of some high profile recruits being there this weekend. That could be something that he had got wind of.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Are you talking about Jenna Fischer?

    ReplyDelete
  119. Well those not from Cuba who only follow foosball

    ReplyDelete
  120. If you're talking about Wifey, I'm getting a restraining order at 8 a.m.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Cincy-My seats are ar eon Row 5, Section 8. They are low and you will spend most of your time watching the Tv screen. However, if you stand the entire game, like many in our section do, and you are 6'4", like me, it ain't that bad. wife has a problem seeing though.

    ReplyDelete
  122. yeah Jay G. Jenna is hot!

    ReplyDelete
  123. Please don't share any Office Spoilers, it's on the DVR to be watched later, or at least it's taping.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Thanks for noticing, ehyou.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Does that restrict my access to The HABOTN?

    ReplyDelete
  126. I have The Office going on DVR as well ... so let's keep the plot a secret.

    Love,
    Bloggist Tate

    xoxoxoxox

    ReplyDelete
  127. I would have to stand on someone's shoulder to be 6' 4"

    ReplyDelete
  128. Digger- Is that you Terry????

The Office on Blu-Ray has been a sweet addition to my collection.

    ReplyDelete
  129. No problem will not reveal any top secret info or any non top secret info. Therefore I will not discuss anything from the situational comedy "the office"

    ReplyDelete
  130. Not Terry but if I stood on NIcky poos shoulder I would be 6'3"

    ReplyDelete
  131. Anonymous8:16 PM

Ok, my sister just sent me this which is stunning to me, has anyone seen this video? This is only the title.

Alabama fan Ricky going crazy watching the Virginia Tech game...

    ReplyDelete
  132. Wondering aloud ... do the QBs have to make more reads/decisions in the Hurricane Gustav Offense or the Trailer Park Tornado Offense (The TF System)?

    ReplyDelete
  133. Anonymous8:17 PM

    Oh no..it's Lou.

    I need some Windex.

    ReplyDelete
  134. My favorite quote from the first half of the game came from one of the ESPN announcers. He reminded the viewers that the clock kept running past the 2:00 mark because it does not stop like it does in the pros. Really ESPN? Well I guess I am an educated Auburn fan. I would know that. The rest of the country must be dumb.

    ReplyDelete
  135. If anybody watches Community after The Office, feel free to share thoughts. Looks good. I'll be watching Fringe, once the game is over anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Boogie Nights is coming out on Blu-Ray this fall. I'm excited.

    ReplyDelete
  137. AU1- Have you been in a cave :)!!!

Yeah, that video has been going around. I posted it a while ago in one of these threads last week. It's sad but funny. My brother used to get that upset over games :)!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  138. 04 that is awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  139. Boogie Nights is a complete under-rated classic IMO. It's good.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Eddie's pants are on fire.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Anonymous8:20 PM

Eddie - Actually I have that is what is painful.

I can't get on the HABOTN at work anymore because it is blocked. I have been busy with kids sports.

    ReplyDelete
  142. I like the Holtz Pep talks a heck of a lot better than the retarded Dr. Lou segment.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Anonymous8:20 PM

Jet..don't know. TF's sure seemed complicated...sortof high maintenance.

CGMs seems to have a bunch of motion, yet puts the Qb in a better situation to make decisions. I haven't seen much Qb pondering going on.

    ReplyDelete
  144. My advice for Lane Kiffin: Wear battle armor at The Swamp.

    ReplyDelete
  145. The best is the FOWL language by that Bammer chick.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Have you ever heard of "Ghosting?" These guys were on Jay Leno last night. They are funny, but I could see where this would be dangerous.

  152. Hoopie ...

We intersect at the same conclusion. So many offenses put a lot of decision making on the QBs that is no wonder that teams struggle from time to time.

If Nesbitt can't pass -- and he can't -- it elevates the pressure on his decision making in the option game.

What I like about Gus is that he does have an emphasis on angles that seem to simplify the decision making process.
