Thursday night LIVE

Welcome. We're watching Ole Miss @ South Carolina ... and listening to Tiger Talk on radio affiliates throughout Alabama.

CURRENT SCORE (game is on ESPN HD)

OLE MISS - 10

SOUTH CAROLINA - 16

Final

TIGER TALK TIDBITS
  • They're babbling.

  • Shannon from Hamilton wants to know why Auburn didn't tackle well last week. He thinks "we lost some of our fundamentals". Question drags on and on and on. ASK A QUESTION: ``We were very disappointed in that. You could make excuses. We didn't tackle well. That's the bottom line. We sat down and really revisited what we can do. It was glaring to everybody. There is a lot we can do to get better at that ... and we will."

  • Gene and Rod are eating steak now. Exciting. "It looks delicious," Rod reports. You come to the HABOTN for hard-hitting journalism. I provide.

  • Brian once took a bowling class and Auburn players were nice. No question asked. Oh well.

  • Chizik on the fans: ``It shows you way when people come to Auburn for an event, they leave saying: `It's like no place I've ever been.'"

  • Frank from Auburn wants to know why Chris Todd splits out wide on Wildcat: ``You're putting two quarterbacks in the game. No one really knows which (formation) you're really going to be in. It gives the defense a catch-me-if-you-can mentality. We feel really good about having that either-or situation on the field."

  • Mike wants to know what effect Trooper Taylor's enthusiasm has on the ballclub: ``It's a definite advantage for us. People look at you and how you're acting -- when things are good or bad."

    (J.Kev called and interrupted. Sorry.)

  • Karen from Auburn wants to know about Gabe McKenzie: "Everything's great. He's playing a little bit of defense right now. We taught him a little bit in bits and pieces. We're thin on offense at some positions. We're trying to pick and choose, with a lot of discernment, what he can and can't handle. We have to be very particular about who we can move and if they can handle it."

  • On Tommy Trott: ``He's played so much football, during the week he's like one of those NFL guys. You can practice him but you have to be careful about how much. The main thing is you want him healthy."

  • On Hot Carter: ``He's almost in the same boat Timmy Hawthorne was in last week. We're trying to get him going in practice and giving him some reps. We'll see how that goes."

  • Beth in Auburn wants to know why Auburn isn't ranked: ``That's a good question. We don't spend a lot of energy on things we can't control. All that other stuff takes care of itself."

  • Bo in Moody wants to know why Blake and Benton aren't playing: ``It's been a learning process for them. There have been some nagging nicks and bruises. Certainly as we get into the meat of the SEC schedule, we're hoping they'll be able to play more for us."

  • M.M. from Scottsboro wants to know about the Todd-Burns relationship: ``It's really good and it's permeating through the whole team. Going back to two-a-days and we had to name a starter and that whole thing unfolded, it was a great event that happened. That's told a lot to ... not just the people out there, but to their teammates. Everything with them is great."

  • Chris in Birmingham wants to know about the future of the OL: ``We know where we're at right now. It's a point of contention with the depth issues after the first five. We've got our sights on ... probably around five (signees). It's really how many juniors you have. We've got to go out and five five great offensive linemen who can come in here and play."

  • Tough to find good OL recruits?: ``It's almost beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You can't just put on the film and see them catch the ball and say: `He's way faster than everybody.' It's gets hairy."

  • Stephen, a season ticket holder, wants to know about a missed holding call against WVU and why Auburn doesn't wear ALL ORANGE for the Ole Miss game: ``I don't know about the orange uniforms. We'll have to wait and see on that. You can't control the officiating. We should have tackled him and gotten him down, but we didn't."

  • On why Chizik thinks this winless Ball State is awesome: ``"We're not good enough to overlook anybody. That's not where we're at. It's going to be a fight for us. Offensively, I'd like to see us have some consistency in moving the ball. When the tempo of the game takes over, you can wear them out."

  • That's a wrap.

    ReplyDelete
  19. yes, that was indeed babble, JGT. Good call.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Sensi - North Carolina is always first amongst the Carolinas, except in Secession. That honor is held by our neighbors to the south.

    ReplyDelete
  21. This repeat is for Jay G:

"First off Coach Chizik, War Eagle. Secondly, when are we going to see Aycock on the field? Thanks, I will hang up and listen."

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anonymous7:31 PM

    Thanks, THT.

Reason I ask is you don't see UNC with Carolina on their jerseys. I wondered why S. Carolina got that honor.

    ReplyDelete
  23. South Carolina has been a state longer.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Shannon from Hamilton ... I soooo hope he's Longest Question Asker of The Night.

    ReplyDelete
  25. THT's link works. Thanks THT.

    ReplyDelete
  26. You throw across your body for that?

    ReplyDelete
  27. North Carolina was even Virginia before Virginia was Virginia. We let them have the name.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I got that link from Monica a few weeks ago and it is now permanently placed on my bookmarks bar.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Pass interference keeps the drive alive!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I wish Feng was here for this.

    ReplyDelete
  31. South Carolina became a state in 1788. North Carolina didn't become a state until 1789.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Just added it to my favorites THT.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Anonymous7:34 PM

    Jefferson thanks you, THT

    ReplyDelete
  34. Carolina was all-inclusive from the 1663 Charter until the official separation in 1729. So officially, North & South Carolina were created simultaneously.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Man, this is rough. I am trying to pull for South Carolina, but something in me rests pulling for anyone wearing red.

    ReplyDelete
  36. He's here in spirit, JGT.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Of course, North Carolina is a vale of humility between two mountains of conceit.

So said a Governor in the mid 1800s.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Another flag. Is UGA playing tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anonymous7:36 PM

    Hey SC WRs

    NO DROPS!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hey, South Carolina beats North Carolina in terms of governors who pick up babes in South American countries!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. will there be any new questions this week?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I sure hope so.. our governor is a woman.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anonymous7:37 PM

Does Chizik have a notebook with these answers.

    Sheesh

    ReplyDelete
  44. I have to pull for SC... I would love for us to be the ones to beat OM on the 31st

    ReplyDelete
  45. Sensi- No, he just pays the callers.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anonymous7:39 PM

I thought that was Finebaum's gig...

    ReplyDelete
  47. What up to all of the Live Hata's out there?

    ReplyDelete
  48. South Carolina also leads the nation in terms of liberal republicans. And dang it, we don't need no stinking motorcycle helmets!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I am ready to get live!

    ReplyDelete
  50. You are right Sensi, my name on air is Charles....

    ReplyDelete
  51. ``It shows you way when people come to Auburn for an event, they leave saying: `It's like no place I've ever been.'"

I guess they say the same about AU basketball games, though in a different context.

    ReplyDelete
  52. What is the big deal with the Palmetto tree? I mean do they only grow in SC or something?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Anonymous7:40 PM

Has there been an Enrique Davis sighting?

    ReplyDelete
  54. JD- It's State Pride and it better represents the state than the old flag.

    ReplyDelete
  55. JKev, with his usual impeccable timing, messed up that Trooper Taylor answer.

    Sorry about that.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Anonymous7:42 PM

    Jevan Snead - Heisman

    Yeah right.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I like South Carolina's state flag. Palmettos and the crescent moon. Nice.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Is Houston Nutt related to Mike Dubose, they look similar to me especially when they are doing that clapping thing.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Enrique Davis is dead to me. Who is he?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Someone call in and ask how CGC likes his steak.

JGT - you got me all hungry again with the steak report, and I just finished supper an hour ago. I'm going to prowl for some food.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Snead is the next Archie Manning. Better watch out.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Frakenbummer: I set this thread to load automatically at 7.

I come in at 7:23 and it wasn't up. I have no idea. I want to fire Blogger.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Wonder how Eli's and Peyton's progeny will turn out.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Anonymous7:45 PM

Eddie$, if by that you mean he'll produce not one, but two offspring that become thorns against teams I like, just another reason to not like the dude.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anonymous7:45 PM

    progeny

    Nice form, Bro

    ReplyDelete
  66. The word Manning is automatically worth 50 QB rating points.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Anonymous7:46 PM

Haven't seen this many balls thrown in the dirt since Doug Drabek was on a mound

    ReplyDelete
  68. HOT Carter made Tiger Talk, Nice. Did he just call Hawthorne TIMMY?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Anonymous7:47 PM

    And 50 a-hole points, JD

    ReplyDelete
  70. JD- You better name your QB Manning tomorrow!!!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  71. Garcia must of been recruited by Franklin...Garcia = 2008 Chris Todd.

    ReplyDelete
  72. This red hot Ole Siss offense is going to do what this year?

    ReplyDelete
  73. howdy hotties-

speaking of palmettos anyone see the movie, palmetto. i love me some elizabeth shue.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Nice tackle punter.

    ReplyDelete
  75. That looked like our punt coverage...

    ReplyDelete
  76. caller from Tishomingo, MS. I had to look that one up. It's 5 miles west of Mingo, MS.

Which is near southern end of the Tenn-Tom canal, or whatever they call that sluice.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Anonymous7:48 PM

Wes - Liz Shue - nice

    ReplyDelete
  78. I love the Palmetto tree and all the tropical plants here in South Carolina, although these days I am thinking South Carolina is a bit too far north for me. I have been checking out Key West.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Short field can they score???

    ReplyDelete
  80. People just watch these football games to see a player eat a hedge.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Anonymous7:50 PM

That last throw looked like one of those fake commercials where Mike Vick chucks one over the edge of the dome.

Or the one where Campbell throws one ball after another and hits the first.

    Yeah right.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Just wanted to make sure HATIN' is on for tomorrow.

    He's formal like that.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Speaking of Campbell, he is not a very popular man in DC these days and neither is their coach.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Anonymous7:52 PM

Ehh, the Skins are the Raiders of the East Coast.

    ReplyDelete
  85. THT .. the caller from Mississippi asked about Timmy Hawthorne, but the answer didn't make sense to me. Or maybe it was the question. I don't know.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Ha Eddie, I am going gninnam on you...I don't need no manning. Be ready to throw your controler.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Did Chiz just tell beth: That's a good question. Who is John Gault?

    ReplyDelete
  88. SFC @ 7:49 - that made me laugh out loud.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Quentin Riggins said he has "met and exceeded all expectations" in his life.

Would you ever say that about yourself?

    ReplyDelete
  90. Is anybody in DC popular these days?

    ReplyDelete
  91. JayGT - I was too busy finding Tishowhateveritwas; I didn't even hear the Q&A

    ReplyDelete
  92. It's a shame Jason got caught behind such a pityful O Line.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Those are low expectations if you meet and exceed all of them...

    ReplyDelete
  94. Houston nutt has MOOOBS...

    ReplyDelete
  95. AAAHHH...atta boy nutt.

anybody ever been to a game in columbia? I was supposed to go a couple years ago, but got sick. what's it comparable to?

    ReplyDelete
  96. I'm not sure I've met any of them.

So what's Q got left to live for?

    ReplyDelete
  97. Jay G- Absolutely Not.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Anonymous7:54 PM

SC can move the ball, just need to finish.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I am thinking about calling in and asking Chiz to define, "sticktoitiveness"

    ReplyDelete
  100. nutt needs the manzier (sp).

    ReplyDelete
  101. I may have come close to meeting a few expectations... but for the most part I have fallen short. However, I have always set lofty, maybe unrealistic, goals for myself...

    ReplyDelete
  102. We had an Orange Jersey question...WHY do people insist on wearing Orange?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Pleaes do JD. That's still nawing at me.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Anonymous7:57 PM

I often fall short of my goals.

Disappointment is a way of life for me.

    I'm cool with it.

Time to put on some of The Cure records...

    ReplyDelete
  105. NO orange. Where's Jet. He needs to know about this subversive behavior

    ReplyDelete
  106. Wes- I've been on the field at Columbia. They bring a good crowd and love their football in a more civil manner than most, but Brad Scott was the coach then and not much to get excited about.

    ReplyDelete
  107. May be he meant in football not all of life.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I say bring out the orange jerseys when we play LSU in Baton Rouge. It's not like blue is working for us down there.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Anonymous7:58 PM

    I second E's Bro

    ReplyDelete
  110. I say bring white to LSU. Make them wear Purple...

    ReplyDelete
  111. Brad Scott is the one who got excitement started in Columbia. Like the season after they won their first bowl game every under him, they hung up a banner that said:

    "National Champions - 199?"

    ReplyDelete
  112. GAH!! NO ORANGE JERSEYS....EVER. NEVER EVER....

    ReplyDelete
  113. You all want to keep messaging here or do you want a Campfire®?

    ReplyDelete
  114. I say we wear White @ LSU... force them to wear purple...

    ReplyDelete
  115. Anonymous7:59 PM

I think it's their choice, JD, unless we work that out before the season.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I got some KINDLE...

    ReplyDelete
  117. I third Bro's note on Jerseys at LSU.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I'll go with the flow, campfire or not

    ReplyDelete
  119. Anonymous8:00 PM

    At the fire

    ReplyDelete
  120. Ok then lets honor the 57 NC team again when we play LSU. Make em wear Purple here.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Thanks for the wrap, JGT.

Wow, CGC has me worried about this improving Ball State team. I hope we can beat them. It's surprising that they aren't ranked, seeing how they've improved each week.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Anonymous8:01 PM

    No uni gimmicks

    ReplyDelete
  123. I am now legitimately worried about Ball State. Can we contain the Fightin' Lettermans?

    ReplyDelete
  124. wait I forgot how do we do a camfire...

    ReplyDelete
  125. I'll run it. Gimme a minute.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I'm too brain dead to keep up with a fire tonight. Y'all go ahead and go pyro. I've got a bunch of ceiling lights MrsTHT wants me to change.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I have lots of family in Charleston and Greenville so I went to the last Thurs nite game at SC when my daughter was on flag line. It is a ridiculous stadium! It is in the middle of the state fairgrounds. It is almost like a HS stadium and hard to manuver. we had to park on the other side of the railroad tracks.

    ReplyDelete
  128. We're campfiring.......come join

    ReplyDelete
