BLOGGIN FOR YOUR NOGGIN: Gene Chizik speaks

Here we go ...

  • He has arrived.

  • ``They came back Sunday very focused. They understand the urgency."

  • On the possibility to UK changing its entire offense: ``It's a question mark as far as where they're going to go. We've done our homework. We have out best educated guess. We're going to prepare for a number of different scenarios."

  • On defending the Wildcat: ``You've got another tailback in the backfield and you can spread the field out. You've got number issues, meaning how many people you can leave in there to defend. It's good stuff. It's a lot of misdirection. It's tough to defend."

  • On Coleman's chat: "It wasn't about the direction of the defense. I'm proud of him playing through all the issues. He's playing with the cast. That's not a thing you'd like to have. It had nothing to do with the defense. They're not going to come to me with an issue that I'm not aware of. They know my door is open. We'll talk about what's good for the team first and his good second. He was pleased when we got done talking about it. It was all good."

  • Chizik said Coleman won't be changing positions.

  • More on Coleman: ``The stat sheets don't tell the story. It's very overrated. He's doing what we're asking him to do with the defense. Don't look into if he had a sack or didn't have a sack. You have to play within the structure of the defense. He's been the ultimate teammate."

  • On freshmen growing up: ``By Game Seven, they've seen enough SEC football to know how to compete."

  • On Ben Tate: ``He's a good back. Let me tell you something -- the offensive line has been doing a tremendous job of opening those lanes. When he bounces things to the perimeter, he's been able to make some guys miss. He's beat up and tired on Sunday, but he's running the ball physically as we envisioned it. We've got to run the ball much better Saturday."

  • On the lack of Wildcat: ``A lot of it has to do with field position and circumstances in the game. There are some other variables in there that haven't allowed us to get in that situation during the past few games."

  • He doesn't like penalties.

  • ``We're trying to put there what we think we can do. You can't always do what you'd like to do. That's where we're at. Whether that's being very aggressive or not, we have to determine that week to week."

  • He noted that Neiko Thorpe's struggles at Arkansas forced the team to avoid blitzes. ``You have to pick and choose your battles when you can be aggressive."

  • Chizik said Eltoro Freeman is "day by day," but said they're "together."

  • Chizik said CB Walt McFadden (left ankle) is going to be a game-time decision.

  • On injuries: ``We're racking our brains every night to figure out how to keep our guys. It's definitely something we're trying to work our way through."

  • On what was learned from the Arkansas debacle: ``I know how 18 to 22-year-old guys think. They do the same thing every day, every day, and then they win a few games. Then all the sudden you go out on Saturday and get your brains beat out. Does it have to happen like that to get your attention? We'll see. When you have a young team and a team that hasn't been in this situation recently ... with being 5-0 ... it's obvious we didn't handle it very well."

  • More on that: ``It's not Chicken Little. The sky is not falling. We didn't play well. We have to re-capture the things that got us to 5-0. It's not doom-and-gloom, but let's troubleshoot and figure it out."

  • That's a wrap.

  2. Hopefully we'll hear something about Byrum. I saw him yesterday in the Lowder building with a boot on and on crutches.

  6. Holy crap the first 4 deleted?

    ReplyDelete
  7. So sad you deleted everything you said about me?

    ReplyDelete
  8. a carry over from the last thread...RE: Gameday weather

I wouldn't put too much stock in that weather.com gameday weather link...it's totally different than what the 10 day forecast for 'Auburn University' at weather.com shows.

Saturday is calling for sunny skies, high of 65, low of 45...I'd say mid 50s for kickoff! Should be an awesome day for some football!!!

  10. Geez, I mean 4 of the first 5 posts on here were Big Snacks ripping me a new one, now they are deleted.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I can't believe my incredibly substantial 1st post got deleted! Dang it! I'm only FAH about once a month.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Why would you delete your first post, Chocolate? That's just bad form.

    ReplyDelete
  13. It's part of my conspiracy to make sure my post is the first. Since I'm apparently a problem causer and a liar.

    ReplyDelete
  14. What happened to the post?

    ReplyDelete
  15. DWWD.......
yes, I am tired of all the wildcat reference even in NFL

    ReplyDelete
  16. I didn't. Let it be known that at 11:22 I posted the following (which Digger can validate):

    "Bip Bop Bam Alakazam!"

It disappeared for reasons unknown to me.

  17. So much fun these days. Do we play football this week?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ben Tate is playing this year up to what he looked like he'd be as a freshman. I picked him to get 1200 yards this year, if he stays healthy he's far beyond that pace now.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Eddie, against the Wildcats of Kentucky. The game is at home.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Kathy, that was a great article about "Pat Dry Field". Thanks for the link!

  24. Is this alternate universe HABOTN?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thank god we don't play Kentucky in basketball this weekend, we can beat them in football. I think you could put an average high school team with UK jersey's on and they could beat Auburn in basketball.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Scott, it's still there...up top...IN THE LEBO THREAD. We've moved on.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yes, a universe in which "Double Dutch Bus" lyrics are offensive. It would have been even worse if I had criticized Rebecca, Lolita, Veshawn and Dawn.

    ReplyDelete
  28. CountChocula, did you go back and admire your post? It's not going anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  29. CHicken Little reference? Bizarre.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I hope the coach doesn't get bombed with posts for saying that Neiko struggled on Saturday.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I only deleted posts Big Snacks had deleted himself.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I had already made my last post before you enlightened me, PF. That was some weird, thread-merging/morphing stuff. I never left the Lebo thread, but ended up on the Chizik thread.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Some others went with it but that's OK.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Man, I like Gene Chizik!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Did any one ask about Bynum?

    ReplyDelete
  36. It's just a jump to the left
And then a step to the right
With your hands on your hips
You bring your knees in tight

    ReplyDelete
  37. Here is hoping that this team learns from this loss and we just roll over Kentucky.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yeah, is the Byrum injury legit or just lies being spread on the interwebs?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Bynum? Why would Chiz have a comment on the Lakers?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sorry bigsnacks I can't type so goog

    ReplyDelete
  41. Lebo's Lunatics are comin' in big this year, folks.

  42. DON'T APPOLOGIZE TO ME...appologize to poor little Wesley from Ft. Lauderdale...

just messing with you, of course. I knew what you meant.

  45. yes, HABOTN harmony is not doom and gloom

    ReplyDelete
  46. Since everyone is gone to lunch so will I!

    ReplyDelete
  47. In the interest of HABOTN, avoiding the Harmony Hut and to accomplishe full-disclosure, I wish to hereby confess to the following egregious act on my part: I am the man in the back who said everyone attack and... well, I think you know what happened.

I offer my most sincere apology to everyone but Jet.

  48. I love you guys. I love lamp.

  49. Well I missed all the drama

    ReplyDelete
  50. Our Oline commit Shon Coleman got moved from a 3 to a 4 star today

    ReplyDelete
  51. I ain't mad atcha, got nothing but love for ya. Do your thing boy.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Man, that news on McFadded being a game day decision is troubling. I was certain he would be "day by day".

    ReplyDelete
  53. sounds like i missed the fireworks.

  54. Anonymous12:48 PM

I meant what I posted and responded to. Otherwise, I would have deleted it. The Chinese haven't taken over yet.

    On to Kentucky:

What is a reasonable offensive goal in terms of yards and points for this game?

What is a reasonable defensive goal n terms of yards and points for this game?

    ReplyDelete
  55. You guys, you could always create more fireworks if you are into the drama. Just do like I do!

So, what do you guys think of the Boston College coaching situation?

    ReplyDelete
  56. What is the official HABOTN position on nuzzling? I suspect it is allowed, but could be considered sexual harassment. Greeting nuzzling with a chair to the back of the head should be allowed.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I nuzzle many of the stuffed animals I sleep with. Is that not normal?

    ReplyDelete
  58. It depends. Are the stuffed animals under age?

    ReplyDelete
  59. it's cool michael. i nuzzle. so what?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Sensi,

I think it is resonable to expect us to get 400 yards and in the 30's offensively against Kentucky.

I don't know what is resonable defensively right now.

    ReplyDelete
  61. What is "Day by Day," other than a song by the Hooters??

The Chiz doesn't strike me as a fan of one hit wonder groups.

    ReplyDelete
  62. There are many layers to the Chiz, commissioner. You may also be surprised to learn that he is quite skilled in origami.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Day by day is just an efficient way of saying that a player will definitely play unless he doesn't.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Late to the game today. Jay G., just wanted to say I appreciate the b-ball coverage. I know Auburn basketball is largely a joke, but I love me some college basketball, even if I put in on the backburner for the next couple of months or so.

By the way, anybody watch the Dolphins last night (of course y'all did)? Orange jerseys looked nice. Just sayin'.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Personally, I stick with the two major sports, football and recruiting.

    ReplyDelete
  66. To each his own.

    ReplyDelete
  67. It's the sport of kings, better than diamond rings...

    ReplyDelete
  68. Boy JGT left in a hurry today, did he have a HOT date for lunch....or sumpin.

    ReplyDelete
  69. E-Bro, I watched the game and found it rather entertaining. R Brown looked very good, as did Ricky Williams. Rex Ryan also makes a good loudmouth to pull against. Some good NFL action.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Michael, Chiz is also a certified square dancing instructor. He apparently has his own DVD based tutorial business, "The Squistem," which he had to sell per SEC requirements.

    ReplyDelete
  71. That's two Monday night games that Ronnie has killed in this year. Too bad they lost the first one to the Colts. His yardage wasn't as big last night, but the two touchdowns (including the gamewinner) were.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I was surprised the Dolphins had so much success running the ball on the Jets. Looks like Ronnie Brown is having the best career to this point of the 4 AU players picked in the 05 Draft.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Michael is joking.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I'm now seeing Mark Ingram touted as a Heisman Trophy candidate, yet Ben Tate has more total yards, higher ypc, and more all-purpose yards. Not that I think either of them is going to win it, but it's still annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  75. When you are on a dominant team recognition flows your way.
    ugh, puke but true

    ReplyDelete
  76. Commisioner - I actually bought the Squistem. I found that it helped me win some amateur high school level dance contests, but proved to be woefully inadequate in preparing me for a higher level of dance competition.

Kristeenuh - where have you been? You not telling people I am joking really cost us against Arkansas.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Did you give Lego Bowie a bite? He looks very enthusiastic at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Is Tate (Ben not Jay) now the SEC leading rusher?

    ReplyDelete
  79. MChiela, I have already taken full responsibility for the Arkansas loss.

    ReplyDelete
  80. E-Bro - yep. Ingram is 4th.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Ingram's behind Hardesty and who else?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Oh yeah, well then of course Ingram should be a Heisman candidate. Also, 2+2=5.

I understand the dominant team thing and Ingram is certainly a good running back, but if Bama is to have any Heisman candidate, it should come from the defense.

    ReplyDelete

  85. Michael:

Unfortunately, the Chiz pulled my user rights to his Square Dancing Squistem®©™ after I tried to show off my new moves in an extreme mosh pit at a Korn concert. The kindest comment about my decision began with the word "Dumbass," and came from my own mouth. It got back to the Chiz, who declined public.

    ReplyDelete
  86. At least I'm not driving 14 hours to a game this week, eh?

    ReplyDelete
  87. Great lunch ...equal HOT date ummmmmmmmmmmmm ?

  89. Those stars above number 10 make me want to nuzzle him...in a gay public display of affection sort of way.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I'm still planning on calling Sensi an idiot...I don't care about the new Humanity Tent

    ReplyDelete
  91. Peter- I encourage it.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Since I don't know whether I can call in tonight or not, I'll just say now that Sensi is an idiot. For that matter, every last one of you are idiots. You're all worthless and weak, now drop and give me twenty!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Norm- You are free to voice your concerns and dictarship threats as well at 646-649-1890 between 8-9 PM CST.

  94. What do you guys think of Tommy Tuberville?

    ReplyDelete
  95. Tuberville? What is that? French?

    ReplyDelete
  96. I wonder if Urban has plans to adopt Tebow. Man nuzzle. I don't even nuzzle my Dad.

    ReplyDelete
  97. you might see Tubs in Louisville next year.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Harrison,

Now that's funny, Tubs taking a flight to Louisville. Maybe Lowder will let him use his jet.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Eddie,

I didn't get to listen to you and Sensi last week, so...wait, maybe that's why we lost.

    I've said too much.

    ReplyDelete
  100. mytommyd, that's what I said on Saturday when watching the game with a Gator fan. I love my Dad. He's a great Dad. I hug my Dad, fist pound my Dad, high five my Dad. I don't nuzzle noses with my Dad. Different strokes...

    ReplyDelete
  101. I know I said this yesterday, but that nuzzling weirds me out.

    ReplyDelete
  102. It apparently kills threads, too.

    ReplyDelete
  103. You folks are a bunch of Tebow-nuzzling nimrods.

Well, actually none of you are.

    Except for Norm.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I think I was 3 when I quit nuzzling with my dad. It was when I realized he had a bulbous schnoz with lots of hair.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Why is "Muskrat Love" running through my head all of a sudden? Somebody needs to make a Tebow/Meyer video using that song.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Jay G, you mean to say you don't nuzzle Bags?

    ReplyDelete
  107. Will their be a segment on how SteveFC turned lost his mind, not Sensi?

    ReplyDelete
  108. are you drunk? That sentence didn't even come close to working.
