  1. I really get annoyed when people do the first post without real substance.

    Almost paradise...

    ReplyDelete
  5. Don't hate michael..

    ReplyDelete
  6. I watched the replay of the ARK TX A&M game. Seemed to me A&M beat themselves. They would get inside the 40 and then do something stupid. Maybe I am naive, but I really think they had a lot more to do with their loss than ARK. Although they did take advantage of A&M's stupid mistakes.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Thats what I gathered too cincy.

A&M self destructed to some degree.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I don't understand the scoring defense rankings if those numbers are correct.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Jay,

Isn't there something wrong on the scoring defense that you posted? Either the points allowed is backwards it seems or the ranking is backwards or am I reading this wrong altogether?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Why such low rushing totals for Arkansas? Are they bad at running the ball, or have they been so far behind they have had to throw most every down?

Smith is a hell of a back. See the Auburn game from 08.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I've watched Arkansas twice this year. TAMU and UGA played similar games, and both should've won. TAMU was just dumb. Auburn will have a lot of fun against that D and Auburn's D will do enough to keep Arkansas just out of reach.

    ReplyDelete
  12. AUfan..

I know the Hogs threw almost exclusively against Alabama.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yeah, Jay, what's up with the scoring defense?

    ReplyDelete
  14. The numbers are right. The rankings are wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Took a look at Todd's and Mallett's respective numbers. They are pretty much even with Chris being on the better part of most if not all the numbers. Of course I don't know if you would say its been a draw with the defenses that they've both come up against.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think Auburn wins big this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  17. And here are the numbers (from cbs.sportsline.com)

    Chris Todd
    Pass Att. 138
    Pass Comp. 81
    Passing Yds 1230
    Passing TDs 12
    Ints 1
    Rushing Att. 11
    Rushing Yds -16
    Rushing Avg. -1.5

    Ryan Mallett
    Pass Att. 123
    Pass Comp. 67
    Passing Yds 1148
    Passing TDs 11

    Rushing Att. 12

  18. 60 something to 30 something sound about right, FSJ?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm thinking more 49-30

That's still BBQ'ing their butts though.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Anonymous8:00 PM

I like our chances if they try to put it in Todd's hands.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yikes. Auburn needs to learn the goal line stand concept. Too much scoring in the red zone.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Todd should pad those running stats once they open up the playbook

    ReplyDelete
  23. Sorry, found his video time funny

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anonymous8:01 PM

I don't think sack yardage should count against QB rushing numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  25. No Va...

You almost HAVE to put it in Todd's hands...

You let those RB's go crazy and there's no way you can stop the Auburn attack.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Also Onterrio has more rushes, yards, and TD's than their top two backs combined.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks for the setup FSJ

    ReplyDelete
  28. Just listening to the archive of Coach Dye on Finebaum.

He said there's no way Ole Miss can beat Alabama.

He said Ole Miss can't score over 10 on Bama.

Sounds similar to his "UGA ain't man enough" comments a few years ago.

    LOL..I love listening to Dye.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Pat delivering the sweet kiss of death

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think he had a point though... Old Mrs. won't be able to handle Bama

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh..I agree with him...

    ReplyDelete
  32. FSJ, thanks for the reply on Arkansas and their rushing game. I looked up some stats-

    Arkansas 110 rushes for 436 yds(4 gms)

    Auburn 223 rushes for 1271 yds(5 gms)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Anonymous8:09 PM

Todd's QB rating is 160.1. Mallet is 158.3. We can hold our own in a shoot out.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Anonymous8:10 PM

And have the edge rushing and in defense.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I almost think that you have to run the ball effectively on Auburn....for two reasons.

    1) Auburn lacks depth on defense
    2) It keeps Auburn's offense off the field.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I had one ranking incorrect.

    It has been corrected.

This is the last time I try to blog while packing and reading with my daughter.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The NCAA's stats site is down right now, but I remember Arkansas' pass defense being almost butt-naked last in the FBS.

    It's at least 115th.

    ReplyDelete
  38. That's okay Jay, you have your priorities correct. Daughter comes first.

    ReplyDelete
  39. To be fair, Auburn has allowed more than double as many points (through five games) as it did last season. I think it's 53 to 113.

    ReplyDelete
  40. 115 is close enough to terrible for me

    ReplyDelete
  41. FSJ, I agree with you on running the ball against Auburn.

    Butt-naked last is pretty bad.

    ReplyDelete
  42. The key is to not have a defense like AU's this year to go along with an offense like AU had last year.

    That is a disaster...

    Otherwise known as UA 2003.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anonymous8:15 PM

Ark defense is 8th worst in yards per game from the Yahoo (Rivals) web site.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think for us to lose this game, we will have to go up there and completely stink the place up. I don't see that happening with this team and coaching staff.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anonymous8:18 PM

Auburn is ranked 40th in passing defense.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Jay,

Have you made your prediction yet?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Anonymous8:20 PM

I left out that was pass defense on the Ark post.

    ReplyDelete
  48. AU is going to tear off their tusks and turn em into whining little piggies.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Welcome back Snow.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Thanks IV. How's everybody doing? I had asked before if anybody knows Gus Malzahn's IQ? Curious.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Much higher than mine Snow.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Anonymous8:26 PM

Auburn's defense looks very middle of the road statistically overall. It's just not the shut them down defense that we and the rest of the SEC are used to. That's partly due to depth and partly to the speed of the offense.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I think that before this season is over, we will be damn proud of this defense and what it has accomplished with the talent and depth at hand. Just my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Anonymous8:29 PM

Malzahn is brilliant at befuddling defenses and cameramen. That's all we really need to know about his IQ.

    ReplyDelete
  55. My prediction, as I recall, was AU wins 35-31.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Sorry Jay, I must have missed it, but I like it.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Anonymous8:32 PM

I agree IV. I think their accomplishments are currently under appreciated.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I know that FSJ is impressed with Auburn's season so far, or at least he gives me that perception. However, it is so funny that so many of my Bama friends have stopped a lot of their trash talk and have started to saying things like "hey, Auburn is doing alright" or "Auburn is looking good". They have quit saying things like "Auburn hasn't got a chance against whomever". That stopped right after the WVA game. I think maybe we have started to make them have second thoughts about what a horrible team they thought Auburn was and just maybe the Iron Bowl ain't going to be a cakewalk like they had thought. I love it. That alone has made this a fun season so far.

    ReplyDelete
  59. The beating of Sensi needs to stop. I finally figured out what is going on. He is certain Auburn will lose 31-35. He just hasn't figured out which opponent. Give the guy a break.

    ReplyDelete
  60. IV..

You are correct. I posted the other day my thoughts on Auburn's season so far and the schedule to come..

    I see anywhere from 9-3 to 11-1.

I'll split the difference and say they finish 10-2. That ought to get Chizik coach of the year honors in the SEC and possibly nationally.

It also should get Gus a HC job somewhere too.

    ReplyDelete
  61. For those of you that bet on games...

UF lost their left tackle to a torn ACL in practice.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Anonymous8:54 PM

    FSJ,

I heard Javier Arenas suffered a concussion at practice as well. Any word on that?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Haven't heard that Sensi..I've been on Tiderinsider and haven't seen anything..I'll let you know.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Anonymous8:58 PM

I hate to admit it, but Bama is the one team I might have to pull a Sensi on my prediction. But I'll worry about that in mid November and by then maybe things will have changed.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I would like to predict that Sensi predicts Auburn 31, Kentucky 35.

    ReplyDelete
  66. IV: I didn't post the pick here. It's part of our Saturday package ... which is due Monday.

    Go figure.

    ReplyDelete
  67. NoVaTiger...

Looking at it right now...I think Bama is the worst matchup for AU on their schedule.

We are good on offense and have a stout defense.

We need to work on ST though..Good grief.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Anonymous9:01 PM

    Not even close, Steve.

    I'm skeptical - not delusional.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Jay, why don't you believe Aubrey Phillips will play a snap at Auburn? Has it got something to do with the undisclosed ailment?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Kentucky don't have enough defense to win.

They do have a helluva all purpose player though..

I can't remember his name right now.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Rivals says AU just lost two LB's for the season to injury. I don't subscribe, but anyone know who?

    ReplyDelete
  72. On the HABOTN picks this week something doesn't look right
Texas A & M favorite over Oklahoma State with the points (off). Is this a typo or what?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Sensi, you fell for my secret strategy. Now I know there is no way you pick Auburn 31, Kentucky 35. Bwahahahaha!!!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Good grief. Hope that is not true.

I want all teams at full strength..

    ReplyDelete
  75. I see now. Pybus out for the year due to concussion. Gaston out for some time.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I see now. Pybus out for the year due to concussion. Gaston out for some time.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Well...I wouldn't mind Tebow being on the sidelines for the SEC championship game should we make it there.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Sponge, I bet it is Pybus and Gaston.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Backups, and Pybus hasn't played all year. I bet we end the year with only three.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I would say we could loan you some of our 15 LBs..but we might need them.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Man, what is the deal with Eltoro, the bull. It aint that hard to pick up the LB position, if you don't have to call the D.

    ReplyDelete
  82. It looks to me like he is a little lost out there..

I'm sure the coaches will get him straightened out.

    ReplyDelete
  83. FSJ, we need them. Help on the way next year though.

    ReplyDelete
  84. He is young and the speed of the college game takes a while to get use to. imho

    ReplyDelete
  85. Anonymous9:10 PM

It would be helpful if he could catch on this year.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Any chance Eltoro turns pro at the end of the season and plays football in Canada?

    ReplyDelete
  87. Steve, Football Canada-style ..

Eltoro will turn pro and play in the new CFL -- the Colombian Football League.

    ReplyDelete
  88. You guys and your crazy stats.

Auburn will win because they're better.

    Period.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Thanks for yelling... spice the place up a bit this evening.

    ReplyDelete
  90. There has been speculation that Pybus is done playing football period. Don't know how true it is. Who would have ever thought Adam Herring would have such an important role in the Auburn D?

    ReplyDelete
  91. I believe that if we sustain a serious injury this year, it will not be in practice from here until the end of the season. I think this coaching staff has been able to find the right level of practice intensity in order to keep us from having serious injuries. If it happens, I believe that it will be in a game and I pray that it doesn't happen at all, not just for the teams sake, but also for the players sake

    ReplyDelete
  92. Come one fellas, Eltoro hasn't even been suspended for a season or injured for a season. Give the man a chance, he's only a sophomore. I'M A MAN! I'M 40! COME AT ME!

    ReplyDelete
  93. We have been very lucky in terms of injuries so far.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Just checking in case no one saw my question - has anyone heard if Byron will be back for the ARK game?

    ReplyDelete
  95. Don't know Cincy.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Think about it. Arkansas upset Tulsa last season. Malzahn hasn't had the joy of whipping Arkansas. Malzahn is a mad genuis. Arkansas will not stand a chance. Malzahn will pull out ever trick in the book and likely right a few more.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Gettin' to be old folks bed time in Prattvegas. All of you have a good night and an awesome day tomorrow. May your troubles be few and your day be sunny and fair. Keep the hate alive and fresh and love Auburn even more tomorrow than you did today.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Night, IV, sweet dreams.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Steve, I'm waiting for the Malzahn/Nutt matchup. I don't expect Malzahn will admit it, but you know he would love to lay a smackdown on ol' Houston and the Rebels.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Maybe Kentucky Cincy.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Quoting the late, great George James, former head coach of the Alabama State University Hornets during the 1970s and early 1980s, during a live interview on WSFA in the Gump ...

"I honestly believe the team that scores the most points will win the game."

    ReplyDelete
  102. I am watching the Arkansas/Texas A&M game. Arkansas will do something stupid, but A&M will answer by doing something even stupider. Arkansas is going down. I predict pain.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I don't believe in hogs, I believe in Beatles.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Anonymous9:35 PM

"Nine Arkansas players have caught a touchdown pass this season."

How many have caught TDs for Auburn?

I can count 5 but I think I am forgetting some.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Jet..

Frank Sanders had one of those moments on JOX this week.

In discussing the FSU coaching situation, he said that Bobby Bowden's "predecessor" had been had already been determined.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Lunchinkitchen, Fannin, Zachery, Trott, and Davis immediately come to mind.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Arky pass defense is 113th.
AU pass defense is tied for 38th.

    Arky run defense is 48th.
    AU run defense is 82nd.

    Arky total defense is 97th.
    AU defense is 55th.

    Got this from www.cfbstats.com
Pretty good site and updated quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Trott
    Lutzentrottzen
    Fannin
    Adams
    Zachery
    C. Stevens

    ReplyDelete
  109. Steve is correct. 5 players have scored on passes.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Now Jet that is just wrong to throw Stevens in there.

    ReplyDelete
  111. How is this for balance. Through 5 games Au has 1295 yards passing and 1269 yards rushing.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I think James Swinton caught a TD pass, too.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Burns needs to catch a touchdown pass. He has thrown one and run for touchdowns. It would kind of round things out.

    ReplyDelete
  114. James Swinton was fast. He was so fast the QBs couldn't see him to throw him the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  115. An interesting stat is that both Au and Arky have a time of possession o fless than 30 minutes per game. AU is ranked 78th at 29 minutes a game and Arky is ranked 95th at 28 miuntes per game.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I thought Swinton redshirted this year.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I'm hoping we'll go to the jumbo package with Jermaine Johnson and Lee Tilley.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I thought Swinton was wearing a blue and red shirt knocking on doors carrying pizzas.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Don't forget to add Willifred Journette and Greg "internet phenom" whatever his name is.

    ReplyDelete
  120. SEC Gridiron Live is giving out helmet stickers. Snead for Ole Nutt and Jefferson for LSU. They are saying they both will pick up their game.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Don't talk bad about Greg Smith. He is one of my favorite flops. He is the only flop I know that predicted he would play in the first game, and then disappeared. Some say it was a government conspiracy. Some say it was aliens. It would make a good X Files episode.

    ReplyDelete
  122. And my favorite ... immortal Freddie Smooth.

    ReplyDelete
  123. By the way, the internet phenom Kimbo Slice got his butt Kimboed the other night on the Ultimate Fighter. Man, I can't believe people on the net get excited about a guy beating up tomato cans and then they get shocked when he gets spanked by a professional.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Infidels 28, Ole Myth 10

Hat Man 27, Florida (sans Tebow) 24

    Good Guys 41, Petrino's Pigs 31

    ReplyDelete
  125. SEC Gridiron Live: All 3 people pick Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Two of three pick Jawja.

All three pick the evil empire.

Two of three pick the Gatos.

    ReplyDelete
  127. If two teams have a time of possession average of less than 30 minutes, where does the left over time go?

    ReplyDelete
  128. Cincy: Nobody in the media will know about Isom's fate before 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

So ... that information isn't out there.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I am liking the way the Chiz handles injuries/suspensions. It really stinks for the sportswriters, but the opponent never knows who will play. The entire team is pretty much day-to-day.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Thanks, Jay. Guess I am just hearing rumors - or wishful thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I like to see Eddins get some playing time. His dad and brother got plenty of playing time. He is a five star border line flop. The kid deserves a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Petrino was a good OC for us.

But there was that little deal disrespecting my dude Tubbs and then he totally shanked my other team the Falcons.

I really, really hope we take him down hard.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Whatever happened to Monica?

    ReplyDelete
  134. She decided not to hang out here anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  135. That's too bad. She added a lot of substance.

    ReplyDelete
  136. I’m going to become a vegetarian.
Does that mean you’re not going to eat any pork?
    Yes.
    Bacon?
    Yes Dad.
    Ham?
Dad, all those meats come from the same animal.
Riiight Lisa, some wonderful, magical animal.

    ReplyDelete
  137. If God didn't want us to eat animals...why did He make them so tasty?

    ReplyDelete
  138. I think its evident xCTT doesn't really like Arky's Petrino.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Why doesn't michael post anymore?

    ReplyDelete
  140. FSJ, the all-purpose Kentucky player you were thinking of earlier was Randall Cobb. UT let him go from right under their nose in Alcoa, TN.

    ReplyDelete
  141. UK QB Mike Hartline's stock is in a rapid decline. It has a lot to do with the competition, however I think that if the trend continues, they will toss in the Ryan Kawasaki dude.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Good morning, hotties! Football starts tonight and only two days until we are enjoying bacon!

Jay, great article on Bart Eddins. Safe travels to Tulsa.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I was not happy with OL's performance, specially the pass protection against UT.

Too many times the UT pass rush just ran through the line. Had it not been for Todd's quickness, and some funky play calling, we would've seen a very different outcome.

It cant be on purpose, or so I think.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Just ran the elliptical and watched College Football Live from yesterday. CGC was on and they did a segment on Auburn's offense. They were very impressed. Showed some of our line's blocking and how Todd makes good decisions.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Please keep in mind that UT does have ton of top level players on their team. Despite their record they had more talent, especially on D than anyone we've faced all year long.

    ReplyDelete
  146. One thing that worries me is the Arkansas game is where good Auburn seasons go to die.

1992, first year of the new format of the SEC, a tie vs Arkansas keeps Pat Dye's final team from being bowl eligible.

1995, a 30-28 loss to Arkansas keeps us from going to Atlanta. The Hogs go instead.

1999, a loss to Arkansas keeps Tommy Tuberville's first team from going to a bowl game...also Ben Leard gets injured early in the game and has to miss a couple of weeks.

2001, a 6-1 Auburn team, undefeated in the SEC goes to Arkansas and gets waxed 42-17 despite out gaining Arkansas 500 to 250 in total yardage. We tie for the SEC West that year, had we won we go to Atlanta.

2002 Arkansas comes into Auburn, rushes for 400+ yards and takes an Auburn 17-14 lead right before the half and turns it into a 38-17 killing. We tie Arkansas for the West that year, they go to Atlanta based on our win.

2006 we are 6-0 ranked # 2 in the nation and Gus Malzahn's offense rolls over us for a 24-10 win that wasn't as close as the score looked.

    Arkansas always screws with us.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Agreed RK. What is your score prediction for this game....I said Auburn 45-30.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Anyone else think that since Tubs is no longer here that the Arkansas will be different?

    ReplyDelete
  149. If you mean different as in we win, then yes. Always amazed me we could beat LSU, Florida, Alabama, but not Arkansas!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  151. Somebody slap me! I've been in the cesspool known as AL.com reading comments. Why do so many bammers comment on Auburn articles? It amazes me that the articles with the most comments almost always deal with Auburn.

I don't know why I go there. It's like a train wreck - I just have to look.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Eddie,

I hope now that it isn't Tub vs Nutt that things will be different. For some reason Houston Nutt and Tubs' favorite team as a kid gave us fits.

I hardly ever make score predictions, but I think we get enough stops with our D to win the game. 38-28 is my guess.

  154. and rumor has it UT's def coord has coached a game or two, thus probably knows most of the wrinkles in the book...now if he can only get his players to perform them.

  156. So what exactly do we do if we run out of LBs? Are they giving any other players snaps just in case?

  157. RK ...

I used to have the same feeling about Tennessee, and now we've beaten them five in a row, including two in ObKnoxville.

  164. If the D-Line plays like they did against Tennessee (pass rush wise) it will be a long long long afternoon for the defense

  165. Our scheme vs Ark will be different than it was against UT.

Against UT we almost played a base D to stop the run and not pressure the QB. I figure that strategy will change this week.
