COLORADO -- 24

WEST VIRGINIA -- 35

Final

TIGER TALK TIDBITS

  • Kevin from Panama City wants to know how Onterio McCalebb is doing: ``He's fine. He's practicing and the whole deal. We didn't want to chance anything with him. We just played him in the first half. He's good to go."

  • Mark from Alex City wants to know why the Wildcat offense isn't named after Auburn: ``Gus has been calling it the Wildcat ever since high school."

  • On Gus vs. Monte Kiffin: ``Monte is one of the best at his trade in America. He's proved that year in and year out. He hasn't changed -- he's as good as it gets. Gus has done a great job wherever he's been. It should be fun."

  • Roy from Atmore wants to know if Auburn is going to throw a hail mary: ``We'll run it and throw it. We'll do a little of both."

  • Tommy on the road wants to know about the defense and why Auburn defenders don't seem to handle their job each play. Oh, and they don't tackle well: We didn't play (the zone read) very well. We worked it in practice this week and we feel much better defending it. There have been some glaring open-field misses. We'll be a better tackling team over time. We've got a lot of young guys out there. We've got to be better at tackling. You see them get better as the weeks go on."

  • Michael from Muscle Shoals, who is at work, wants to thank CGC for hiring Trooper Taylor .. and if he has a Trooper Towel: ``That's a great question. You're 100 percent right, man. His enthusiasm is very infectious. We're so happy he's here. He has done a phenomenal job of coaching our receivers. He's been great for Auburn. He's been good for our players. I have a whole closet full of his towels."

  • Mike from Montgomery wants to know about PPL and ... he actually thinks Chizik will discuss recruits: ``Phillip has worked hard to get back into the mix. He's worked hard at it. He's made progress. This week, I think, he picked his game up. If he keeps working, he'll have a chance to work his way into the lineup."

  • Benjamin in Chelsea wants to know what administrators can do to keep good coaches employed at Auburn: ``My first objective what you said -- I want to keep these coaches around. Jay Jacobs, he understands that fully. There are opportunities out there that are going to show up. They want to be head coaches. They want to be coordinators. They want to follow the same path I took. To the best of my ability, though, I'm going to keep this staff in tact."

  • Christy from Haleyville ... had no question. She wants Auburn to whup Tennessee.

  • Clyde wants CGC to know how much he loves CGC ... and Auburn. ``Thanks for a lot of great comments."

  • Jonathan in Tuscaloosa wants to know about Jay Wisner and Tommy Trott and how important their blocking has been to the Tigers' early-season success: ``I am so glad you said that. It's awesome that you've noticed that. (Wisner) threw a huge block on one of those screen passes. These guys have done a good job of blocking downfield each game. They show up. Tommy is a really good football player. He's been through a lot of ups and down with injuries."

  • Donald from Birmingham, who thinks Chizik is a class act, wants to know how CGC gets the team mentally prepared to play on the road ... and he wants to know if CGC scabs ideas from Tommy Tuberville: ``Playing on the road, to be honest with you, it's really unique. These are uncharted waters. We're trying to prepare as usual. We don't change what we do. You can overcome all the things that aren't good. There are going to be some bad times and there won't be 87,000 of your fans behind you. I believe it's about how you prepare during the week. I don't know that there's techniques. It's preparation and the mental aspects. I need to know where we are coming out of this road game ... and so do all of our coaches."

  • Steve in Birmingham wants to know why the defense is "awful". Steve's elderly mother thought Auburn was playing with tear-away jerseys. Steve also reports that Ted Roof "does nothing for me": ``There are a lot of places where we're not as good as we want to be. Ted has done a great job. He's done a good job eveywhere he's been as a coordinator."

  • Lisa from Montgomery wants to know where fans can meet the team in Knoxville: ``We're probably going to get in tomorrow. We'll keep it on central time. We'll get in around 5:30ish. That's the plan."

  • William from Birmingham wants to know about Gabe McKenzie's defensive career: ``He'll play a little bit of defense. He's doing a good job of learning both (offense and defense). We felt like last week would be a good week to get him some defensive snaps. He did a good job."

  • Randy from Clanton wants to know: ... nothing. No question.

  • Shawn from Arab wants to know about how Malzahn's offense will work against Kiffin: ``That's a great defense we're playing against. They're really, really well-coached. To move the ball against this defense, we'll have to play our best game of the year -- by far."

  • Jeremy from somewhere wants to know about Neil Caudle, who he believed was awesome against Ball State: ``I was really proud of Neil. he has gotten better every week. He has a comfort level with this offense. He's comfortable with the offense. He needs to keep coming on."

  • On keys to this game: ``Turnovers and penalties. There's going to be a lot of noise when our offense is out there. We can't turn it over. We need to get some turnovers. And we need the kicking game."

  • "War Eagle."

  • That's a wrap.

  8. I see Brown picked up where he left off in the Auburn game.

    ReplyDelete
  9. The Dyer commitment twitter alert was from Sept 1st. False alarm.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Tommy isn't the only one who wants to know!

  11. evenin hottnesses

West Va is not looking as good as i remeber from 2 weeks ago....anyone else getting that?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Eddie that is what it looks like, darn I feel bad...but i saw it on hawgsillustrated and decided yall would like to see it...Arkansas media should be banned for life

    ReplyDelete
  13. Roy's question about Hail Mary... I wasn't listening, but that sounds like a peculiar question. Was he talking, like, maybe on our first play from scrimmage?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Gold, I mean AUNugget, WVU looks just like last week, turnovers and all and big play capable offense. Defense looks a little softer this week, but it's early.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh well...I'm still 95% sure Dyer will commit to play at AU

    ReplyDelete
  16. This game is young, WVU will blow them out

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm beginning to think that AU will destroy UcheaT this weekend.

    ReplyDelete

I hope we don't through a hail mary. That's a desperation pass thrown up for grabs.

Now I do expect we'll through a few down field.

    ReplyDelete
  19. well, now y'all know the name I use when I call in to Tiger Talk. Yep, I must be Tommy.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Maybe we should run 3 Hail Mary plays on our first series. I obviously missed out on the context of the question.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anonymous7:30 PM

FSJ, I think the chance of blowing them out is greater than the chance of losing.

    ReplyDelete
  22. If we run hail mary's, we are in trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  23. How far is a Todd Hail Mary gonna go?

    ReplyDelete
  24. i don't really like pullin for wva but whatever makes Auburn look better.

a BIG win in knoxtown this weekend would make Auburn look pretty sexy.

    more sexy i should say.

    ReplyDelete
  25. a closet full of Trooper Towels?! Maybe Jonna is selling them on the 'net.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hey, Emmett. Been a while!

    ReplyDelete
  27. War Eagle Emmett!

Jay G, Ask Coach Chizik this "When are we going to see Aycock on the field?"

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Eddie - you don't know how tempted I was to call in and ask that, just for JGT's entertainment.

    ReplyDelete
  29. So the Dyer rumors are false, I would predict him to commit after a victory sometime this weekend...I believe Gus and Luper have this kid locked up and are using recruiting strategies with him

    ReplyDelete
  30. Roy from Atmore wants to know if Auburn is going to throw a hail mary??

Maybe at the end of a half or game where it's the last play?

    Perhaps?

West Va looks just like the West Va we played...They can move the ball, but they can't hold onto it.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Next year Eddie. no reason to burn his redshirt this year is there?

i look forward to seeing him too, should be a Fannin type player huh?

    ReplyDelete
  32. OK, i'm now convinced that PPL is going to play. Chizik seems to telegraph some of his moves and this seems to be one, just like Hawthorn last week.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thanks JG,
I have been keeping track on my phone, but my blackberry is a pain when i try to post

    ReplyDelete
  34. I wish that some fans would realize that asking a coach about recruiting is a bad idea. You are just asking for trouble. If he slips up and mentions the wrong thing, we are in the NCAA zone.

    ReplyDelete
  35. AUNugget- The Aycock ? was a joke for Jay G. He loves that question.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I cannot wait to see PPL back, he had so much potential last year....I hope he can make a diff. on Returns

    ReplyDelete
  37. Someone go get Christy and sobber her up.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Does Bill Stewart look like about a 2 pack a day type of guy for most of his life?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I've only heard of PPL...I've seen him on a 15 yard kick return. That is all.

I guess I just don't buy into the hype until he shows it on the field.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sure JGT, Ask Coach about Aycock...then tell him your Glad our Billboard in Ariton worked in our favor

    ReplyDelete
  41. However if PPL can catch a punt and move it forward 5 yards he's immediately better than what's happened so far.

    ReplyDelete
  42. i gotcha Eddie. i should spend more time around these parts.

    ReplyDelete
  43. RK- Go get you some kool-aid and take a swig, PPL is the real deal :).

    ReplyDelete
  44. I 2nd that emotion (Christy's)

    ReplyDelete
  45. I want Auburn to "whup" Tennessee too.

    I really do.

    Really, I do.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Someone ask about Aycock.

ps: I loved Major Harris. He was a bad man.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I don't need the 5 yards, just don't fumble or go backward

    ReplyDelete
  48. Major Harris was a bad man indeed.

I'd never even heard of WVU before him.

    ReplyDelete
  49. We all know what Franklin thought of PPL, and I am sure he has had quite a bit of Kool-Aid in his day (prob. mixed with Kentucky Gentleman.)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Fumble again....good lord.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Are you kidding me?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Sounded like AC was taking the points given up personally, think our D will have a breakthrough this week....start to look like the old Auburn D?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Emmett- We also know what Frankln thought of Chris Todd.

    ReplyDelete
  54. #45 for Buff D is all over the place.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Did anyone really expect WVU to not turn the ball over?

We picked up 6 from them.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Eddie: We knew what he thought of a healthy Todd, too bad we did not see that til this year

    ReplyDelete
  57. Fowler loves Auburn. Always has.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I was expecting WV to destroy Colorado. It could still happen, but so far, the WV offense seems to be doing some kind of Marx Brother's skit or something.

    ReplyDelete
  59. THT still insisting on the incorrect Yankee spelling of ya'll.

Big Jim Folsom spelled it "Ya'll Come" on the thousands of bumper stickers his campaign produced. Got to admit that Big Jim knew how to speak redneck, no? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  60. They seem to be big on redzone turnovers too.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I never bought into the "WVU would win the Big East because they played us tough hype."

Which is probably why I'm worried about our trip to Knoxville.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Now that is a WV fan.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I can't imagine playing College ball for my Dad, then to play on a crappy team on top of that must really stink. I bet Cody Hawkins wishes he had stuck around and went to Boise St.

    ReplyDelete
  64. anyone have a good link to a video of Dyer running with the football?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Fowler can suck it, i have never him too high on AU.

Reese Davis can too. (i heard he was a uat grad)

    ReplyDelete
  66. RK, it's the Big East though. Their best team, Cincinnati, had Fresno St in town last week and the Bulldogs had the ball for 44 minutes to the Bearcats' 16. They still won the game but, should the best team in your BCS conference ever give up those kind of stats at home to anybody, let alone Fresno St?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Frame youtube might have one

    ReplyDelete
  68. I mean, I'm nervous about the game on Saturday too, but I thought WVU could be a player in the Big East because, well, it's the Big East.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Even the defense turns it over, good grief.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I am beginning to see a pattern with W Va...

    ReplyDelete
  71. hahahahaha WVU defense gets a pick then turns over the ball, WOW

    ReplyDelete
  72. FSJ,

Is that a picture of Abbie in your avatar? And how is she doing?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Yeah Michael, they play with greased balls.

    ReplyDelete
  74. this gane is awful

    ReplyDelete
  75. This is sad. I've already forgotten who Molly dog picked in the GT vs MSU game.

Surely they also called off. holding on that play? No? What a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  76. http://espn.go.com/blog/sec/post/_/id/3961/no-gimmicks-malzahn-has-tigers-flying-high

    ESPN article about AU offense.

    ReplyDelete
  77. South Alabama would be a contender in the Big East

    ReplyDelete
  78. What up to all those LIVE folks out there?

    ReplyDelete
  79. this game is ugly.

I feel like all these thursday night games have been ugly.

the ga tech v clem game was pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Ole Chiz got it a bit rough this week. My favorite was the guy who called in and told Chiz that he wasn't impressed with Coach Ted Roof. WOW!

    ReplyDelete
  81. I think WV is still having nightmares about Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Hey JD.

WTC- That's funny that Monte Kiffen says that nothing about the offense is remotely simple and Tubs was on the radio in knoxville calling it a simple offense.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Emmett, Daphne High School would be a contender in the Big East.

    ReplyDelete
  84. If you believe in Chizik, you have to believe in Roof. Nobody doubts Chizik's ability when it comes to defense, so I trust his opinion on Roof. Offenses are a different matter, but Chiz knows defense.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I agree Nugget. Maybe I should turn to the Alcorn State vs Arky Pine Bluff game.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I don't understand what is simple about this offense. I suppose the way that Old Man Kiffen will try to beat it is penetration and pressure...

    ReplyDelete
  87. sometimes i start worrying about the team and recruiting and stuff, then i look at the staff and what they have done so far and it makes me start the party back up.
