Morning Reader: 11/12

Hey everyone. I used to do a somewhat elaborate first post each day, but it became too cumbersome.

Do you really need links to every story I've written since my days at the Kentucky Kernel?

So here's what I'm thinking: A shorter version that includes only what you need.

Winnipeg Jets? Random stuff rolls through my brain all the time.

    TODAY'S HAPPENINGS:
  • Thursday Night Live beginning at 7 p.m. CST with Tiger Talk.

  1. Thanks JGT, its nice having the links to the days stories.

  2. AJC is report this on the UT'hood....

Three University of Tennessee football players were arrested early Thursday for allegedly trying to rob three men outside a Knoxville convenience store.

The incident occurred shortly before 2 a.m. at a convenience store on Cumberland Avenue, Knoxville police spokesman Darrell DeBusk said.

Nu'Keese Richardson, a freshman wide receiver from Pahokee, Fla., and Janzen Jackson, a freshman defensive back from Lake Charles, La., and Michael Edwards, a freshman defensive back from Cleveland, were arrested a short time later. Each was charged with three counts of attempted armed robbery, DeBusk said.

DeBusk said that the victims told police that they were sitting inside their vehicle, parked next to a Toyota Prius, while a friend was inside the Pilot store and were approached by a black male wearing a black hoodie and brandishing a black handgun.

"The victims stated that a black male then exited from the passenger side of the Prius, wearing a black hoodie, walked around to the front passenger door of their car, opened it, and stated, ‘give us everything you've got,' " DeBusk said.

The victims told police that they all showed their wallets to the suspects and showed them that they did not have any money. A third black male then approached and told the other two suspects, "We've got to go," DeBusk said. The suspects then got into the Prius and drove away.

Police spotted the Prius a short time later and stopped the vehicle and arrested the three players.

"In plain view, officers observed two black hoodies on the back sat. Underneath the back seat, officers located a black, CO2-powered pellet gun.

The suspects were taken back to the store, and the victims positively identified Edwards and Richardson as the two who approached their vehicle, DeBusk said.

Tennessee athletics director Mike Hamilton said the school would evaluate the situation before deciding on any disciplinary action.

"At this time we are currently evaluating the circumstances surrounding an incident involving Mike Edwards, Janzen Jackson and Nu'Keese Richardson," Hamilton said. "Any decisions or comments regarding their status will not be made until the evaluations are complete."

    Just what were they thinking???

  6. just got my Google Wave invite. Score.

  7. Eddie, have you heard about this? Will it effect where we are parking? If so, what do you suggest?

  12. Love the random Winnipeg Jets logo. I spent many nights cheering on the Birmingham Bulls against Bobby Hull and the Jets.
    Good times.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Kiffin is just trying to keep up with Meyer in the race for the Fulmer Cup...

UT fans are in melt down mode that this is going to kill their recruiting. We could all hope that to be true... but truth of the matter is, $$$ will override an armed robbery charge any day.

    ReplyDelete
  14. By the way.... WTH is a Google Wave?

    ReplyDelete
  15. This, Miller.

I have no idea really, but was told it was gonna be awesome and change my life. So far it is not as billed, but that may be because I have no idea what it's supposed to do.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Only posts related to Auburn from all the way back to when you were with the Kentucky Kernel should do fine.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I am having this wonderful vision. Imagine watching your favorite football team on the tube when suddenly a player scores. They flash up a picture of the player. Suddenly you realize "Hey, that's the guy that stole my wallet". Now, those must be special moments for UT fans.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Expect sunny conditions in the morning. Bright outlook.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Best post you've made in months, Steve...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Speaking of Kentucky Kernel, it reminded me that I'm a member of the the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. Got a shingle somewhere to prove it.

I have no clue what it means or the benefits it bestows.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Luv- It should not affect where we plan to park.

    ReplyDelete
  22. JayGT - anytime you reference hockey, it's got to be good.

Google Wave? I have no idea. Just got Voice and haven't figured out yet why I need it. So far the only thing I use it for is to send voice messages to my email since I am much more likely to be checking email.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Google voice is awesome. I have mapped all my phone numbers to one number. I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. For some reason, reading the UT story makes me think of Ethan Frome.
They make their mark, decide to go through with it, fail miserably, and could potentially ruin their lives as a result. Simply pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The kids at UT really are stupid. That is one of the most unnecessary acts I have heard of in a long time. May they be example to kids everywhere on decision making.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anyone got a prediction for the Georgia game?

    ReplyDelete
  27. We Kick the Mutts 27-21.

    I hate Georgia!!!!!

  28. Eddie, we are hoping to follow your parking directions for the game.

  31. So, Hotties attending UGA game:

Kathy, Eddie, Sensi, Scottie B, Luv, Frankenbummer...

    ReplyDelete
  32. KKK to march at Ole Miss

This has to absolutely kill Ole Miss in recruiting. The students started chanting "The South Will Rise Again" at football games, the University President told the students to stop it and now the Klan is getting involved. This will hurt them. I can't believe the students started this crap in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Be careful jhag!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Eddie...
The ole miss students have had thatas part of one of their cheers for a very long time. Their president is just now making a big deal out of it...
But, I do agree... with the president making it a public battle between himself and the students, and now the KKK getting involved and making a public display... there is no way it doesn't harm their recruiting.
And, if I'm not mistaken... they are expected to have a lot of recruits on campus this weekend for their game vs. UT.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I doubt the Students expected the Klan to show up because of a silly chant and act of defiance against the leadership.

Really, what did the Chancellor expect from the students? You can't tell college kids that they can't say something and expect that they'll do anything other than say it louder.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I would love to attend the game in Athens this weekend... but I have been banned form attending AU/Uga games.

    ReplyDelete
  38. More of a self-imposed ban...
Of the 6 (or is it 7? I forget...) AU/UGA games I have attended... AU has not won a single one of them.
Therefore... for Auburn's sake... I will keep my butt a safe distance from the stadium for the game...

    ReplyDelete
  39. D. Miller- Your right, and I agree that the President should have handled this better.

Why are you banned from the game, do share?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yes D Miller, you are banned. Way to take it for the team.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm "Tentative for attendance to the UGA game - Haven't heard from my buddy who has the ticket yet this week.

I hope I get to go.....

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hey, maybe the KKK has a branch that supports recruiting. You never can tell. I am not sure which is worse for Ole Nutt, the chant or the publicity this has brought. I mean, Mississippi didn't really need something else to make them look backward in comparison to the rest of the U.S.

    ReplyDelete
  43. i have been to 4 games in Athens and Georgia is 0-4.

    97, 99, & 01 AU games.

    98 Georgia Tech.

thus, i will be back in Athens this weekend. 5 & 0 baby!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. or 0 & 5. whichever.

    either way, GEORGIA WILL LOSE!

    WAR EAGLE, HEY!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Well, i've been to Athens in 95, 97, 99, 01, 03, 05 & 07. I'm 5-2. Bring on Victory #6!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm a game behind Eddie. Didn't do the 1995 game, so I'm 4-2 in Athens.

    ReplyDelete
  47. so, from a quick scientific study.... if you want AU to beat UGA in Athens in no way can D.Miller go. you have a 60% chance if Eddie is in attendance and you are all but guaranteed an Auburn victory if Scottie B is there!

    SWEET.

    ReplyDelete
  48. ummmmm 5/7 is around 70%, Scottie, not 60%.

    ReplyDelete
  49. i consulted with Jan Terri. we maintain that 60% is correct PF.

(...no good dirty rotten punk calling me out for bad 3rd grade math just wait till he sees me in Athens...oh, he's in so much trouble....ggrrr...)

    ReplyDelete
  50. I attended numerous games in Athens during college.... Georgia has never lost a game that I attended.

I am hoping that the lack of my presence will propel Auburn to victory!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I was UGA in 77 (W) , 79 (W), 81 (L)& 83 (W).... 3 out 4.

    ReplyDelete
  52. D. Miller, please stay very, very far away from Athens, GA Saturday!!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. So...
    Me - 0% winning percentage
    Eddie - 71%
    Scottie B Etheridge - 100%
    Loganville - 75%

Since I'm staying home, I am not a detraction...
So... if the 3 of you are in attendance that gives Auburn a combined 80% shot at winning.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Kathy...
I will be at a safe distance. I'm staying in B'ham Saturday.

My sister on the other hand will be at the game. I just hope and pray that it doesn't run in the family. This will be her first AU/UGA game and first visit to Athens. I hope it's a good one.

    ReplyDelete
  55. So, any stats on you watching the game on TV, Miller? Perhaps if you only look at the screen via a mirror?

    ReplyDelete
  56. I watch every game I can at least on tv...so I haven't kept accurate stats on that one...

We did go 11-0 in '93 when all I could do was listen to the radio broadcast... but that was Fyffe broadcasting and not Bramblett, so I'm not sure if it translates.

I'll do whatever is necessary to secure a win this Saturday though.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I still haven't gotten over the loss of Jim Fyffe. When I think of Auburn football, I think of his voice.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I thought we'd agreed that the 3 earlier losses were Kristina's fault. If that's so, shouldn't we be more concerned about her gameday plans?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Kristina is largely to blame for the earlier losses.

But, I can't risk attending the game... for the sake of all AU fans.

    ReplyDelete
  60. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I was definitely spoiled with Fyffe too.

Probably why I am No Fan At All of Bramblett. He is a necessary evil to be able to listen to a game when not on TV or I am away from the house.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Wait a minute, the 3 earlier losses are squarely on Cincy. She entered into a verbal agreement late in the second half of the UT game and then didn't close on the place until just before the Ole Miss game. Any coincidence that we played very badly during the whole deal and have looked almost normal since??????

    ReplyDelete
  63. I too, miss Jim Fyffe.... The Sanders call in the UF game will forever be etched in my memory.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Good point Eddie. Perhaps that's something I missed in my HABOTN absence. Along those lines, is Sean still an idiot?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Sean still hovers around that line. Sometimes above, sometimes below.

    ReplyDelete
  66. WTC (non-recruiting follower),

Trovon Reed set to announce in the morning. We get him?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Anonymous12:48 PM

I thought I was to blame for the losses because I picked against Auburn. We all know that means I was being negative. Coach Tommy West told us negativity ruins everything.

    ???

    ReplyDelete
  68. Peter- I'm not WTC, but there is a 99.9% chance we get him. He announces tomorrow morning at 10AM CST.

    ReplyDelete
  69. PF.... I'm not WTC, but, yes....

    ReplyDelete
  70. Tommy West makes my heart smile.

    ReplyDelete
  71. National analyst on Rivals radio this morning said Reed would commit to Auburn tomorrow morning.

    ReplyDelete
  72. you aren't responsible, Sensi. Just a bad person.:-)

    ReplyDelete
  73. War Eagle!

    Beat Georgia!

    ReplyDelete
  74. The wifey and I will be in attendance tailgating at UGA. Not gonna go to the game though.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I need one of THT's custom maps for this weekend. Where's everyone gonna be tailgating?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Ok, who all is going to be going:

    So far, I know of:

    Scottie B
    Sensi
    Luv
    Kathy
    Peter
    Myself
    Loganville(Probable)

Who am I missing? We need a meet up spot

    ReplyDelete
  77. I have no problem meeting up with any of you as well before the game, unless I'm not allowed to play with all the other reindeer

    ReplyDelete
  78. back in 1971, who was the receiver who tore up the Dawgs in Athens?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Great prompt, Scottie! Let's hope Darvin does the same on Saturday.

    ReplyDelete
  80. that made my day... simple things for a simpleton.

    ReplyDelete
  81. PF - and all the Hotties in Athens.

Mark your tailgate spot, or a central meeting location, on the Hotties in Athens google map.

    ReplyDelete
  82. well, that didn't work like I intended. Some missing Firefox add-on that I'm unable to install here at work. Let me go to The Company's IE and give it a try.

    ReplyDelete
  83. The friend I am going with (if the ticket comes thorugh) has a tale gate spot in/behind/somewhere around the parking lot of Loco's. They "Rent" these out for the season. That's where I will be...even though I don't know where THAT is.....

I've never heard of such a thing as renting parking spots....

    ReplyDelete
  84. Welcome to the new Athens LT

    ReplyDelete
  85. I added where Sensi, Luv, Kathy and Myself will be parking. No official tailgate setup is planned by us.

    ReplyDelete
  86. TOGA TOGA TOGA TOGA TOGA!!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Man the situation in Knoxville is gettin hairier... Those two stud athletes are going to jail for a few years. But like Kiffin says any publicity is good publicity...HAHAHAHAHA yeah okay

    ReplyDelete
  88. Kiffin has been so quick to comment on anything this season....

Today he is silent probably for the first time in his life.

    Probably a smart move.

    ReplyDelete
  89. How do you add a location?

This is where I think I will be....

    581 S Harris St, Athens, GA‎

    ReplyDelete
  90. I already added it, LT.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Thanks THT - I didn't have a clue - I thought I had screwed up the map at one point.....

    ReplyDelete
  92. FSJ...I don't think Kiffin can say anything till all info is gathered. Once it all comes out, I think Nu'Kese and the CB are gone, but the starting safety stays when all is said and done.

It has to sting that all three are Kiffin recruits. Can't blame the previous coaching staff for this one.

    ReplyDelete
  93. So are yall ready to take the number 1 player out of the state of Louisiana tomorrow? WR Trovon Reed

    ReplyDelete
  94. Finebaum is stirring the Eric Smith stuff again..

    He needs to move on.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Gathering facts has never stopped Kiffin from running his mouth or else he wouldn't have falsely claimed that Meyer was breaking rules when he wasn't.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Exactly Eddie...

With that said..he should keep his trap shut until the facts come out.

    ReplyDelete
  97. So UT has armed robbers and Fbomb is stiring the Eric Smith pot again. That figures.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Announcement: there will be no liveblog of the chat that is not occurring today.

    Thank you for your patience.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Yeah Eddie..he insinuated that video exists of the Smith situation.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Good for him. IF it's evidence and with Eric Smith's status of Youthful Offender, can he even play it? And if the answer is no, then what is the agenda for him to pursue this story?

    ReplyDelete
  101. Michael- I can't believe you missed the chat. It was Epic! Suit up next time!

    ReplyDelete
  102. if it's anything like that New Mexico soccer player, I don't want to see it.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Hmmmm... Michael stock - hold or sell? He missed earnings estimates today.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Finebaum...even handed, highly ethical journalists need not apply.

Journalism of course being a relative term when spoken in the same breath as Finebaum.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Too bad that Fulmer isn't still around...

He could help the police department investigate.

    ReplyDelete
  106. any publicity is good publicity Lane Kiffin is just trying to up his street cred to Jay G Tate's level

    ReplyDelete
  107. ....And to think I used to like Finebaum 20+ years ago when he wrote a fairly legit column......

    ReplyDelete
  108. I have plenty of street cred.

    Kiffin calls me for advice.

POLL: Do you want a Q-and-A or Campfire tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  109. Doesn't matter to me....

What time does the festivities start?

    ReplyDelete
  110. Eddie-I will be shocked if we do not get Reed Friday. I see where we have upped the squeeze on Lattimore.

AU is making a BIG push for several JUCO OL. We need a lot of those. May sign 4-5 this class, with 3 being JUCO.

Also heard some interesting news about some linebackers, but I have to re-check my stuff before I pass that info along. Surprising news to me, though I do not follow recruiting, but good for AU.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I mentioned the JUCO OLs with a comment about Grimes maybe last week. That's definitely a push.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Will michael live blog the campfire?

    ReplyDelete
  113. The only place I can say I will be for sure is in the first lot on the right oh Hull just north of Baxter street. Backs up to the Sigman Xi and blown out former TEP houses....I'd add it to the map, but am mobile only until Friday night, and the map hates my phone.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Not Puppet Hour material, but mildly interesting:

    Tristan Davis

    ReplyDelete
  115. Thanks everyone for your nice words, thoughts and prayers.

The Dr. seems to think he got the two tumors on my dad's liver. However he's still in a lot of pain, been a long day.

I seriously do appreciate your kind words.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Good for Tristan 5,200 a week still isn't bad money, I think he could end up on the active roster with a special teams spot.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Glad you got good news WERK, hopefully the pain will subside and that'll be the end of it.

    ReplyDelete
  118. This party really died.

    ReplyDelete
  119. It's because you only bought one keg JGT, you shoulda known we would float that before we even got to Puppet Hour.

    ReplyDelete
  120. RK,

I must have missed where your dad was having problems.

    Prayers for a speedy recovery.

    ReplyDelete
  121. is le campfire on for tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  122. Darvin Adams gave himself a nickname and the best he could come up with was "Smooth?"

    ReplyDelete
  123. Rumor in Georgia is that they may wear black helmets and jerseys for the game. I really hope they do and lose. That would be priceless.

    HATE GEORGIA!!!

    ReplyDelete
  124. three hours later I vote for Q and A!!!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Craig- I would guess yes on campfire.

    Darvin, Simon, Theadore!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  126. No Q&A. Not a fan...me likey Campfire!!!

    ReplyDelete
  127. From the other thread, someone mentioned an AU player who robbed a pizza delivery guy.

For some reason that reminds me of the guy about whom the following was once reported in the NY Times:

"He once arrived at a high school football practice taped in Ace bandages from head to toe. One day before high school basketball practice he hid all 16 basketballs in a friend's car. He used to jack up the cars of Auburn freshmen and take off the tires.

And at Auburn he once took his 22-inch machete and ran yelling through a group of 500 high school cheerleaders at a clinic, wildly waving the knife and sending the frightened cheerleaders scurrying and screaming.

There's more. He shot an arrow with a huge bow in a meeting with a Southeastern Conference official over agents. Before bed check one night at Auburn, he took off all of his clothes, greased his body, put white baby powder in his hair, stood behind the door with his machete and jumped out at the coach making rounds, yelling and waving the machete, as his coach raced down the hall."

There were giants in those days.

    ReplyDelete
  128. No way in hell, Eddie. Their fans would booo.

    ReplyDelete
  129. whatever we do i have a 12 pack of Busch Light and no wife around so lets chat

    ReplyDelete
  130. Peter- I agree completely. Can you imagine the backlash they would get if they wore it again and lost!

    ReplyDelete
  131. someone needs to tell F-Bomb that Auburn has already self imposed scholly limits over the Smith "situation"....what are we down to now? 73 or 74? Time to move on dude and get back to how great Nick is....

    ReplyDelete
  132. Everyone needs to monitor Craig's comments as the night goes along. He will have front page quote by the end of the night guaranteed!

    ReplyDelete
  133. I remember that same guy pretty much single-handedly winning the GT game in 1987.

    ReplyDelete
  134. there'd be a backlash if they did and won, much less lose.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I'm referring to Freep's post, by the way.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Just listed my 4 SEC Championship tickets on eBay......

Hope it is the right bait to catch me a LARGE 'Bammer willing to give me about 4X the investment....

    ReplyDelete
  137. Scott C- Is it Aundrey Bruce?

    ReplyDelete
  138. You got it, Eddie. He may have been crazy and an NFL bust, but he was a bad-@SS on the football field for AU.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Bears vs. 49ers is gonna be a pillow-fight in panties

    ReplyDelete
  140. Who we talking about - I don't recall any of those stories from '87.

    ReplyDelete
  141. what i've been saying all year. Look at Aundrey Bruce. We need the dominant d-line and its okay if they are clinically insane. JUST WIN BABY

    ReplyDelete
  142. Good point Craig.....

I remember how excited I was Atlanta got Bruce......Then the embarrassment soon followed......

    ReplyDelete
  143. Who likes NFL on Thursday night? I prefer over bad College games.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I love the 49ers ... and yes, they do suck.

    ReplyDelete
  145. This may not be a very good NFL game Eddie- I have issues with both Cutler and Singletary. Beats North Texas vs. Ball St. though......

Cutler is such a Cry Babay - but a hell of an arm.....

    ReplyDelete
  146. Have the 49ers played the Bears since Singletary has been the coach? He might have a flashback and tackle one of his own players tonight. That would add some interest.

    ReplyDelete
  147. You know what makes the NFL interesting.....FANTASY FOOTBALL!

I am 8-1 and tops in my league that pays out 450 to the winner. Playoffs are close to a lock for me. I am playing Devin Hester tonight, so i'm intrigued by the game due to that.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Fantasy Football does make it a lot more interesting. I made the championship game in the league I played in last year, but this year is frustrating the crap out of me. I'm leading my league in points, but I'm 3-6. Everybody has a freakin' career day against me!

    ReplyDelete
  149. Hmmm, nobody ovah heah, nobody ovah theah.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Scott C- That was me about 3 years ago. I got just about everybody's best day but led the league in points at the end but out of the playoffs. The odd thing is I won it the next year by picking about 4 or 5 of my starters off of waivers. It was unreal and I had no business, but I got on a hot streak and just barely got in the playoffs and won it all and was probably about 6th out 10 teams in overall points. Go figure. So far, I lead in points and wins, so I'm feeling good right now.

    ReplyDelete
  151. I'm 7-2 in second place. I'm about 15 points out of first. My weak spot is QB, and I have Cutler playing tonight.

I've won the league the last two years... but this is my weakest team.

    ReplyDelete
