Men's hoops: Auburn wins, 68-67

Hey everyone. We are awaiting tip-off to the massive Auburn/Virginia game.

It is being televised on Comcast Sports. Check your local listings.

**I left my camera upstairs. I'll post a real pic at halftime.**

  • FINAL
    Auburn wins, 68-67.
Knox tips in an errant shot from Reed with :01 second remaining. It was nice.

  • FOURTH TO @ 2:59
Auburn leads, 66-62. Auburn moved ahead by eight points with 4:20 remaining and, well, I thought that was enough. Then Virginia got a tip-in (laxy box-out by Auburn) and a steal-and-bucket. Now it's a four-point game and the Cavaliers have the ball. This is when I'd expect a young team like Auburn to make mental errors. They can't afford any more.

  • THIRD TO @ 7:45, 2nd
Auburn leads, 58-55. Both teams appear to have gone on their second-half runs, but Auburn's is better. Consecutive tip slams -- one from Earnest Ross and one from Kenny Gabriel -- energized the situation. Virginia's offense is two-dimensional right now. One option is point guard Jontel Evans beating Reed off the dribble. The second is firing away from three-point range. That combination probably won't win this game.

  • SECOND TO @ 11:50, 2nd half
Tied at 46. I like the way Brendon Knox is playing. He's trying to be assertive. Auburn's defense has been better this half. Landesburg had 17 in the first half. He has one point in the second half so far. Auburn is so small -- they have to remind themselves to rebound all the time. Nothing comes easily.

  • FIRST TO @ 15:51, 2nd half
Auburn leads, 42-40. Auburn came out with more enthusiasm, spurred on by Reed. He was really pushing the tempo. Hargrove finished a few breaks nicely. Virginia still is settling for the three-point shots. Not sure why they don't drive more -- this Landesburg kid, a small forward, is really good.

  • HALFTIME
Virginia leads, 34-32. Auburn made a really nice push there. Defensive effort was up. The Tigers missed a ton of free throws, but they hit a pair of threes. The last one came from Sullivan's hands as the buzzer sounded.

  • FOURTH TO @ 3:04
Virginia leads, 31-23. Auburn is taking a little more care on the offensive end, but it's not yielding many points. Virginia seems content to fire away from the perimeter. They're hitting a few more form out there. That's the difference right now.

  • THIRD TO @ 7:43
Virginia leads, 25-16. The Cavaliers are on a bit of a run now. Auburn is not taking good shots. Virginia's looks are better. They also got a nice bucket in transition after a weak turnover involving Sullivan. Auburn doesn't have much want-to as Lee Ziemba would say.

  • SECOND TO @ 11:42
Virginia leads, 15-13. I know this will surprise you, but Auburn seems impatient on the offensive end. Not getting good shots. Virginia is in the same boat, mostly because Auburn's defense is pretty good, but they've hit a couple more buckets. They're also rebounding more aggressively.

  • FIRST TO @ 15:25
Virginia leads, 12-11. Teams still messy in terms of strategy. No rhythm yet.

  • AUBURN'S LINEUP
PG -- "Speed" Reed of Houston
SG -- Frankie Sullivan of Uniontown, Ala.
"SF" -- Tay Waller of rural Georgia
"PF" -- Lucas Hargrove of South Carolina
C -- Johnnie Lett of Mobile, Ala.

Thrilling atmosphere. There's at least 750 people here.

  1. At least 750?!

    Auburn Basketball...drink it up.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Daymeon Fishback on the CSS color commentary.

    Yeah baby.

    ReplyDelete
  3. So.... how bad will it be?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Hoopsubstance!!! How long til football season?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Come on. Where is everybody? I can't do this by myself.

    This is Auburn basketball people.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Mr. Zookeeper and the youngest are two of the 750.

    ReplyDelete
  7. are they doing the wave yet?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Turnover from Auburn 15 seconds in.

Auburn turnovers as a drinking game would be deadly.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Hey football season isn't over yet... why have they started basketball already?

I think its crazy that Tebow has received more votes than Spiller or Moore

    ReplyDelete
  10. I like Fishback. Maybe if the local and regional media tried to garner more interest in the basketball program more than 750 people would show up. Not to mention Auburn students and other fan support. I really hope our (I say that because I contributed to Auburn) commitment by building the new arena will pay off.

    ReplyDelete
  11. "Auburn not known for their shot blocking ability." - So says Fishback.

That's an understatement. Usually, you need a guy closing in on 7 feet tall to do that. When's the last time that happened? Kyle Davis.

    ReplyDelete
  12. M=B...me too, but I'm not holding my breath.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I loved watching Davis. Those were fun times. If you have never been to a basketball game with a packed house and ESPN there and the team is contending..then you are missing out. When I 1st got to Auburn the games were a blast. We need fan support to get it back there. I'm telling some of those games were more fun than football games.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ebro, I have a hard time believing they would spend 80mil+ unless they plan on being 100% committed. If your not going to be committed then you would just make minor changes to the BEMC.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I've been to one MB... unfortunately UF was the team that was contending... they were just playing at Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  16. 750, huh?

That's about 250 more than my guess would be.

    ReplyDelete
  17. 1998-2000 was a banner time for great Auburn basketball crowds. Went to a few games in 99. Then went to the Kentucky game in 2000 that Doc Robinson won with a 3.

Had to stand in line for at least an hour before they opened the gates to get in. Atmosphere was amazing.

Those were the days, few though they were.

    ReplyDelete
  18. No one answered me in the previous thread, is that the real Jim Rome that posts here?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Wake...leaning towards no.

    ReplyDelete
  20. UF made a commitment. They built an arena and spent a little money and hit a home run with a coach. The fans also bought in and that helped recruiting and then you all see what happened.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well, maybe it's 1,000 fans.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I always assumed no... but the fact that Jay acknowledged him made me think maybe he was. I dunno maybe they met at the 2004 Sugar Bowl.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I was at that game to Bro. One of the best sporting events I have ever atteded. I also remember the LSU game when Chris Porter had one of the most amazing put back dunks of all times. The only football game that I can remember that was more fun than some of those games was the year we beat UF with a field goal with seconds left in the rain. I of course couldn't feel the rain since I could actually feel anything..if you know what I mean.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jay G...why won't people like you try to give the team more support and try to get the fans interested?

    ReplyDelete
  25. M=B...the money is a good start, but the coach is the next step. Up to now, the administration hasn't really stepped up to the plate there. I'd settle for a young, charismatic coach just to get the student fan base fired up. I just want to see some life when we open up the new arena next year.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think Jay G does more than enough to cover Basketball.

    ReplyDelete
  27. That Porter dunk is stuff of legends. Unfortunately, so is his drug abuse.

But I hear ya. That Kentucky game WAS amazing, as were several other B-Ball games in that time

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ebro...no arguments here. I really like Lebo and I think he is a pretty good coach, but we need someone with some energy who can come in and fire up the students. Look a what B. Pearl has done. Yeah some my poke fun but he has really gotten the UT faithful excited about the program. People can laugh but how awsome is it for him to show up a the women's games without a shirt. He also spends a lot of time going around to the student centers during breaks and talks to the students.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Really wake? I didn't see one article or blog post leading up to this game. I did see smart little comments about the attendance. Look I like G and some of the other Auburn beats but they don't usually talk much about the program and when they do it's negative.

    ReplyDelete
  30. M=B...Bruce Pearl is the exact parallel I was thinking of. I don't know how young he is really, but he has injected plenty of excitement in there.

I think T-B Arena also helps their cause, and with the support for the Lady Vols, there was always something there to be tapped into, but no doubt he has made a difference.

    ReplyDelete
  31. if they're going to write about AU basketball, they don't have much choice, M=B.

    ReplyDelete
  32. M=B: Not my job.

    That is Auburn's job.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't think JayG is the one holding back on Auburn B-Ball coverage.

As I recall last year, JayG actually covered some games he wasn't required to. The MA (and its boss company) just doesn't allow for much coverage. As I recall, he wasn't allowed to cover the SEC tourney (men's anyway) last year.

    ReplyDelete
  34. THT...maybe some are missing my point. How bout talking up the program and trying to get others to support it and maybe just maybe things could get better. Up till now though the program has been playing in a terrible arena and has not media support. what recruit would have wanted to come to Au? Now the new arena has already proved to help recruiting. This last siging class was one of the best in a long time. Now if the media will get behind it..who knows.

    ReplyDelete
  35. He doesn't spend much time on it during football season... last season when they were actually halfway decent he spent a fair amount of time on them, a good amount on the women's team as well.

I think Jay G would cover the women's gymnastic team if he felt we wanted him too. He goes where the interest is.

P.S. Feel free to cover gymnastics... but a photo report is necessary.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Sorry guys I didn't mean to call out G. I just happen to be on his blog. I haven't been coming here long so maybe he has tried, but I haven't seen it yet. There are also clowns like that Moon kid from the gump that have bashed Lebo since the day he walked on campus. Lebo was already taking over in a very rough time. He needed more.

  38. Your wife i WAS a huge fan- mainly just based on her being a Catholic drinker but NO WAY could I vote for Ingram. I always say I have very good objectivity EXCEPT for when it comes to Bammer. Love you showing love to the Pac-10 though- that kids a beast as is the boy named Suh. Most dominating single game performance I can remember from a defensive lineman though I will say AU's complete from 4 were more dominating against Bammer in 2005.

    ReplyDelete
  39. M=B...no harm, no foul. I feel your pain. It's just the cold hard reality of Auburn basketball.

The fact that I'm a big college basketball fan who went to Auburn seems like a contradiction.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I blog the poo out of basketball games. Look though the archives.

I was live bloggin when it wasn't cool.

I'm from Kentucky. I like basketball. Auburn should be better than this.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Craig, sorry but Suh is a MAN not a boy... although I Don't believe he is 40.

    ReplyDelete
  42. JayG...hypothetical for you.

You're Jay Jacobs. What do you do to improve Auburn basketball? Is there anything to do besides an outpouring of money and a new coach maybe.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Auburn shooting 50% from the charity stripe.

    Surely you jest.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I grew up a huge UNC fan and still am. I only started like AU basketball when I went to school there. I guess I got spoiled because we were really good when I was there (at least the 1st two years). G is there much talk about letting Lebo go and if so who do you think Auburn would go after?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Have you ever seen a team shoot FREE throws so badly? I mean it was like that under Cliff as well. I don't understand.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I've said it before but the only reason I can see for the poor free throw shooting is coaching.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I guess Auburn needs to get a better coach.

    ReplyDelete
  48. And I knew a few girls from the gymnastics team when I was there also. There are definitely some cutties at those. Me and some buddies tailgated for one of the All Auburn All Orange meets. I think it was either against Alabama or Georgia, someone really good.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm pretty sure a prereq for Auburn recruits is poor free throw shooting..and turnovers.

As for Lebo, I'm torn. I like the guy and think he's a decent coach, but time has to be running out. The only bad thing about him getting fired though would be the deal to open the arena with UNC next year would probably fall through without him present. Maybe not. Not sure.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hearing some VERY good news on the recruiting front. I think we have landed and big one on the defensive side.

    ReplyDelete
  51. wtc...I like it. Got any more specifics?

    ReplyDelete
  52. How would he know...all together now..."he doesn't follow recruiting!"

    ReplyDelete
  53. Uh, yeah...he doesn't follow recruiting.

    nudge, nudge...wink, wink.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I think we land a couple after this weekend... just a hunch...

    ReplyDelete
  55. He is a 4star DE that has offers form MANY schools. He was here for the IB. Likes ROcker ALOT.
    from what I can gather.
(this is not from RIvals or any other service)

    Trooper landed this one.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I think the hallmark of the Lebo era is

    1. Small team
    2. Bad free throw shooters
    3. More 3's attempted than 2's

    ReplyDelete
  57. Ah, a DE. Right up my ally. The more defensive lineman the merrier. Same for offensive lineman.

    Keep 'em coming.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I wish I could not follow recruiting and have great information fall in my lap..

I'd probably start a recruiting site just for grins.

    Just kidding wtc.

    ReplyDelete
  59. RK...bad free throw shooting is a hallmark of all Auburn teams, right? Past and present.

Also RK...going to the Roundhouse next week for the big UTC-Georgia Tech matchup?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Pens at home losing to the lowly Canes tonight. Aarrrrgghhhh.

I'm going to make an executive decision and assume y'all don't want me live blogging Pens hockey here.

    ReplyDelete
  61. It appears we are an early 8 point favorite over Northwestern. It is nice to see we are getting some respect.

    ReplyDelete
  62. THT...I live blogged the US-Denmark soccer friendly and France-Ireland World Cup Qualifier here a few weeks back, so who am I to stop you?

    ReplyDelete
  63. FSJ-Sometimes I get lucky and the info just finds me.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I wonder if MonD has started that blog yet.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Good game at Beard-Eaves tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  66. JayGTate no on the Monblog. she is on Facebook alot

    ReplyDelete
  67. I thought we got some size this year? Are they too young to play?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Teams are trading 3's.

    ReplyDelete
  69. "Size" at Auburn is anyone over 6-5.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Knox has got some size. We at least look like we have a legit college basketball roster when he's in.

    ReplyDelete
  71. KNOX WITH THE PUT BACK JAM!!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Knox has been good tonight, no doubt.

    ReplyDelete
  73. E-bro,

I plan on going out to watch the Mocs/Tech game next Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Rob Chubb has some size...and a killer last name.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Sounds like some "newcomers" are spoiled. Played in a poor arena? You should have been there when we played in the Barn. When the players could easily step on the feet of the fans less than two feet from the inbound line. You should have been there when Snow White and the Seven Dwarves won the conference. Gilbert, Groover, Hart, Fibbe, and who? Helmingler came off the bench. They all played a lot of minutes. They all made us proud to be at Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  76. RK...I plan on being there as well. Is there a ticket boom that I should be aware of though? I was planning on just showing up at the box office.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Nice shot selection Reed...Jesus.

    ReplyDelete
  78. You tell them J&K. I was there in those days. Ah, the barn. Been a while since I heard anyone talk about the barn.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Henry Hart, Eufaula, AL. One of my all time favorite bb players. Po Devil.

    ReplyDelete
  80. How bout we work some clock guys.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Actually this is Ken. Judy is a Bammer, but I love her anyway. The name was already on the account when I chimed in here. The Barn was the place for BB, before some fool burned it down.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Joel Eaves, great bb coach. Coached ends on the fb team as well. Inventor of the shuffle, a magical bb offense that was fun to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Judy and K. I am proud to be an Auburn Tiger and that's why I want so badly for everyone to get more involved in the team. If you call going to games (every game for 5 yrs by the way) at BEMC as spoiled then I'm really sorry for what you had to go through. I loved the team so much I miss/come back early during the holidays to watch the games.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Didn't i hear Po Devil committed suicide a few years back? And who was the fifth starter?

    ReplyDelete
  85. EBro -- really poor shot selection. Goodness.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Ken, if I am not mistaken, the barn was torn down before the sports center building, a PE gym when I was there in the late 50s, early 60s, burned during the LSU game.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I've got the game on 360, it's tough trying to keep up here. I drove from ATL to 5 games last year.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Just hit the fre thows and we win But

    ReplyDelete
  89. Is the game over in realtime?

    ReplyDelete
  90. The 5th starter escapes me as well at the moment, old man problems. If I think of it, I will post it. Don't know about Po Devil's death either.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Well, we at least got a decent look at a shot there a second ago and Knox came up with a big offensive rebound. But free throw shooting isn't his thing apparently. Who knew?

    ReplyDelete
  92. Sean...nope. Still going.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Auburn just fouled VA on a three point shot attempt.

    Yep.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I fully agree it takes a lot of fan support to make a program really roll. AU has been through some hard times in BB. Have we done much since Porter signed with an agent? Well, maybe that wasn't the end, but tough times have been around a while. A good product on the floor brings in the fans and a lot of fans enhance the performance on the floor. it takes both, but how do you get improvement started?

    ReplyDelete
  95. WTC. Recruiting question. I hear we are backing off Ahmad Dixon, Grades an issue. You hear anything?

    ReplyDelete
  96. That was a cheap foul.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Why in the heck do you foul with 7 seconds left?

    ReplyDelete
  98. On his last blog entry at the last media timeout, JayG said Auburn can't afford any more mental errors.

    Prophetic words indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Damn. Au about to blow one.

    ReplyDelete
  100. PPL is here talking with some young kids.

He's almost their size. It's funny to me.

    ReplyDelete
  101. PPL is with ... here's a crew ... McCalebb, Benton, ESMith and Robert Johnson.

    ReplyDelete
  102. KNOX WITH ANOTHER PUT BACK!!!

    AUBURN WINS!!!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Wow. The tigers win. Didnt see it coming. way to push the basketball.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Auburn wins, 68-67.

    What a finish. KNOX.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Robert Johnson the blues guitar guy?

    ReplyDelete
  106. I cannot hate and love a sport at the same time as much as I do basketball.

    War Eagle.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Jay G. I was outside the stadium this year after homecoming watching the players leave. I knew PPL was small, but wow. I was shocked he was as small as he is. My 14 year old was almost as big, and he is a small 14 year old.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I don't know how good Virginia is but that is a big win to me

    ReplyDelete
  109. On top of PPL, we are a small team all around. Chizik has some work to do. I was amazed we stayed w/ Bama like we did.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Ken of J&K - I haven't seen y'all here before, so allow me to say welcome to our sillyness.

    ReplyDelete
  111. E-Bro,

There shouldn't be a problem getting tickets at game time.

I plan on playing the alumni card to get in as my masters came from UTC.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Glad to see the late great blues legend Robert Johnson was at the game today.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Virginia doesn't strike me as a good team, but neither are we, and they're from the ACC. I'll take it.

They just about blew it at the end and probably should have lost, but nice effort and great hustle from Knox especially. He was big tonight, literally and figuratively.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Great win tonight. Hopefully we can build off of it. I think we have FSU soon. A win there and things could get rolling, but for the love of...whatever.... we have got to learn how to make a FREE throw. It's called FREE for a reason. Practice, Practice, Practice...are we talkin about practice.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Yea Ken, welcome to the greatest Auburn blog on earth.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Ditto on what IV and Norm said.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I've been lurking for some time since my more intelligent son told me about the site. They're all 3 more intelligent than me, but they all love AU too. I had to jump in to respond to say the facility they play in is not as important as the people who play and the people who cheer. Hope i didn't offend anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Never mind, just checked UTC's webpage and the only game where alumni don't get a discount is the Ga Tech game.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I am shocked beyond words.

    ReplyDelete
  120. RK...looking forward to it. Always nice when a top 25 team makes a trip to the Roundhouse.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Glad to have you Ken I am new to this as well. I don't agree on the arena thing though. In this day you need facilities to recruit and you need recruits to win. So BEMC just wasn't doing it.

    ReplyDelete
  122. It was packed last year when the Vols came to town.

    ReplyDelete
  123. WTC spill the beans man on this recruiting thing. What's up with Goodwin looking elsewhere? I think we really need him. Is there much chance that he jumps ship?

    ReplyDelete
  124. Well; I wasn't offended or shocked by what Ken had to say, but since I see that my man PF thinks otherwise, I'll have to side with him. He's been on a roll lately.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Truthfully, I'm not much of a basketball fan at all. I don't even really know why, but I just don't follow or watch it. So, from my perspective, you can say whatever y'all want about the facilities and it won't really matter to me.

    ReplyDelete
  126. M=B is right with regards to recruiting, but I do wish fans would show up regardless of the facility. I'm talking to you students.

I pretty much made it to all the home conference games in my time at Auburn. I boycotted most of the non-conference games, though, partly out of protest to the weak non-conference schedule and partly because football cut into that time.

    ReplyDelete
  127. MB..I agree you have to have the facilities these days. I agree the facilities OFTEN may be the turning point on a wavering recruit. I agree the game off court must be played this way. I just recall seeing some mighty good BB in less than grand facilities back in the day. You're right. I couldn't happen today.

    ReplyDelete
  128. When I was at Auburn I was at most basketball and baseball games as well as football. If I was in town and not working, I was at the game.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I went a lot as a freshman, bought the season my sophomore year, went to all of 3 games. Went to no more than 5 the next two. I went to more games last year as an alum living two hours away than I did in two years .5 mile a way.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I still find it interesting that Robert not only sold his soul to play the blues forever, but that in his tie off, he likes to watch Auburn Basketball.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Nice BB chat tonight guys, hopefully things will get going for us. Glad at least one person on here agrees with most of my thoughts on the BB team (Ebro). Finally I wil agree with you, it starts with students. Get off your lazy butts and get out to the game. They are fun and you don't have anything else to do on a Monday night. I was at every home game in my day and it was a blast. Norm...BB is kind of like golf, it's not fun till you try it. Have a good night everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Stiffarm trophy update:

    Gerhart still leads.
    Suh in second.
    Ingram right on his heels.

Of note: Suh is running away with the first place votes so far, has Ingram doubled up as we speak.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Sean...I guess that speaks to my argument about needing a young, charismatic coach needing to come in and energize the student fan base.

    ReplyDelete
  134. At least Ellis had the "Cliff Dwellers".

Lebo's Lunatics hasn't really taken off.

    ReplyDelete
  135. wtc, are you talking about Corey Lemonier? And what is up with Goodwin?

    ReplyDelete
  136. Well I was gone till the post about the stiff arm trophy...Lets go Suh and Gerhert..both are beasts.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Lebo is as exciting as a car wash in a convertible. Not much fun.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I figured the Big Lebowskis campaign would have fired up the students.

    I was way off.

    ReplyDelete
  139. And since the BB band is smaller than the FB band, I always referred to it as the Cliff Notes.

    Good Night.

    ReplyDelete
  140. AU Opens at -8 over NWVanderbilt.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Per Jeff Lee:
Four-star DB Rashad Knight very excited about upcoming AU visit. Playing for state title Friday night and will be in AU Saturday morning.

Four-star DT Byran Jones out of Junction City, Ark. will take an official visit to Auburn in January. A specific date has yet to be set. Gus Malzahn took a trip Friday to check out Jones. Malzahn will be back visiting Jones Tuesday.

  143. I'm not WTC, and I don't follow recruiting.... but....

Sponge.... regarding your ? about Dixon... your assumption (grades) is correct.

Kathy... Do you smell Lemons? I smell Lemons.

RE: Goodwin.... he is getting enormous pressure from family to stay in state and go to UGA... He is taking a step back and re-evaluating his options. The fact that he didn't commit right away to UGA means he is genuinely torn and it'll be a tough decision.... our coaches will stay on him, and we will be in the mix.
IF we lose him... we have other very good options to consider.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I had enormous pressure to stay in-state as well. I left.

  145. Thanks DM. I appreciate all updates supplied by all you recruiting gurus.

  146. D Miller. I'm still wondering who the five early signee's will be. Two of the juco offensive linemen we are recruiting are May graduates. Two early HS graduates leave us three to fill. I'm thinking Adams is someone they are re-considering. Don't know when he graduates. None of the Juco early qualifiers seem to be leaning to AU. I see those five that count against last year as KEY to our quick comeback. Assuming we get guys that can contribute quickly.

Hag ....if there is time, spend some effort trying to develop the argument for the opposing point. This will help you understand the issue from both sides thus making it easier to present your points with clarity and compassion.

If it is a potential emoitional issue, I also pray about it, but that's how I roll.

I'll join the wager group if we aren't picking ATS, just with confidence points.

  156. Sponge-Grades and some personal baggage. UT has been after him and I thought he would have committed by now. I think they even have backed off of him somewhat.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Anonymous10:09 PM

The gaggle of 6 SEC teams with the 7-5 record will probably go 3-3.

    ReplyDelete
  158. MB-He is getting the squeeze from family and coach to look around. THis summer his coach even said he did not like his players ot commit early so they can take in the full recruiting process. He doesn't dislike AU, he just thinks the young players should look at every school that is interested. AU still has a great shot at him. He is a very good player.

(I do not folow recruiting but thatnks for allowing me to respond)

  159. Possible January enrollees:
    LB - Jessell Curry
    DE - Craig Sanders
TE/DE Ken Adams (I expect him to switch this weekend on or shortly after his visit)....
Possibly OL - Lawrence Gibson (stud)
Possibly OL/TE - Brandon Mosely (Project...although, I think he is a fall back option)
    Possibly DB Dequan Menzie

CFB fans wouldn't like it but I think that in years without a clearcut MVP player, the Heisman shouldn't be awarded at all. Kinda like Nobel Prizes that are only awarded when suitable.

That being said: I guess even the Nobel folks get it wrong now and again.

  161. Hoopie... and others...

The Bowl Pick'em will be using Confidence points... it will not be ATS.

    We want everyone to join....

TommyD... so far, yes, just you and me... we just got this ball rolling today, hopefully others aren't scared to join.

  163. Anonymous10:21 PM

wtc ...you do a great job of not following too closely. Remember 1 car length for each 10 mph.

I think that these kids should take all of the visits. Some of these kids haven't traveled much and here is a chance.

I'm biased, but I like the chances for AU when we can get a kid on campus.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I think AU will push hard this weekend on Ken Adams. he will be a DE for AU. UT has him committed now and they plan on playing him at TE. He is a Decemeber graduate. he likes AU al ot and is brining his parents. He could commit this weekend or Monday. That gives AU 3 that count for 2009. Still trying ot get an OL for 2009. Branden Mosley can fill one of those slots. 6'6" 275, plays TE but he says he will play OT at AU. Will announce soon. AU is ranked #1 by him for now. (4star)

  170. Hoopie- I agree. I still think AU probably gets Seastrunk at RB. he has all but one of his official visits to the west coast (Oregon, USC, and others) If I lived in TX, I would go out there also, because I may never get to go again until I graduated.

    ReplyDelete
  171. WTC.... Coaches are currently evaluating OL Lawrence Gibson at Hargrave... if they like what they see, they will give a firm offer, and I think he'll take it. The kid is a stud, IMO. He would also be a December grad and January enrollee.

Joel Bonomolo will also enroll in January, but will not count back to the 09 class.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Norm,

What are you siding with me on? I'm super grumpy, so there's a good chance that I said something and don't remember it, but I have no idea who Ken is...unless this is the same Ken that came in spouting about ECU. I ripped that Ken because he's an a-hat.

Ken of Jan and Ken seems like another nice old geezer. I love our geezers.

    ReplyDelete
  173. ...or Judy and Ken, whichever.

  174. Bono had the shoulder surgery. I keep hearing we may pull his offer.

  177. WTC,
RE: Bono... I keep hearing the same. I heard the other day that his shoulder surgery went much better than expected, the damage was not as severe as they thought going in.... he is expected to be 100% in about 2-3 months.

I think, with him being a guy that isn't able to count back to 09... if they get in a numbers crunch with some stud recruits wanting in on the action...he could become a casualty.
