Excellent Norm.
My timing is most excellent.
Always Norm. Everyone else is an amateur flipper.
I can flip an amateur...
hola
ANNOUNCEMENT!

This group is FREE.
Group ID# is 12699 and Password is: outback
Once you sign up, take note of the Commish Note and sign up for the wager group as well.
More folks need to be signing up for the $10 Pick'em pool...
I cooked a steak for Jim Rome once.
I've met lots of other people who are niche famous.
While I like to be generous when I can, I've got better things to do with $10 than just give it away.
Jay G Tate, for one.
I met F. Lee Bailey, but I told you about that one a week or so ago.
I went streaking at the Governor's Mansion in the gump, I also sprayed Silly String all over his wheelchair.
Hi guys. My brush with fame is as follows. In the Salt Lake City airport, going skiing w/ my wife. A hush falls over the crowd, I mean, everything just went silent. I noticed everyone staring down the concourse. Who do I see. Bo Derek, in a white one piece jumpsuit w/ a white cowboy hat. Now, this was in the late 80's, so Bo Derek was some kind of hot. She looked much better in person I can say. I watched her walk down the concourse, as did every other person in the airport. Pretty funny how she captured all the attention.
Also, met Jimmy Carter on the airplane coming back from Alaska w/ my Dad and Brother. I have relatives in Plains Georgia, and yes, he knew them all. Plains is a mighty small town. Wifey is a flight attendent, so I'm on lots of planes...so it goes.
I sat in Patrick Dempsey's mazda rx...he was pretty cool. I don't know who he is off the race track, but I'm told he's someone famous. He's becoming famous in racing, but has a long way to go.
My encounter with people most every one knows came in March 1963. Werner Von Braun and John F. Kennedy along with a bunch of others toured Marchall Space Flight Center in Huntsville Al. I was working in the Test lab at the time. I was standing in the door way when they came down the corridor they nodded but didn't shake any hands. I had no idea how soon this president would soon be dead.
Am I the only who who didn't know that Pat Dye Jr. is a Sports Agent?
Digger you might have known my dad, James C. Robinson? Worked in the test lab as a Engineer for NASA at that time.
Speaking of Pat Dye, I met him a couple of years ago in the Home Depot on the Eastern Blvd. in the Gump. He was in the back of the store trying to find his way out. I spoke to him, said War Eagle Coach and he said "Can you help me find my way out of this place?". I said yes and led him toward the front of the store. On the way, we had small talk. Once in the front, he said thanks and War Eagle. I strutted for a while after that.
Another person of note that I met and talked with was George Wallace. I have yet to tell the story of my second encounter with Coach Jordan. I must do that soon and also place it on the Auburn Tiger Tales blog if Jay G. does not object. I told about my first encounter with him two or three months ago. That story is on the ATT blog now.
Dempsey seems like a cool dude. Read a couple of interviews with him recently. Sounds like a total car guy who happens to have a bajillion dollars to spend buying cool cars and racing.
I know Norm.
I'm trying to think... but, I don't know if I have ever met anyone famous...
JGT, might be the most famous person I have ever met.
I know J-Z and he knows lots of people including Norm.
I've seen a few sports stars out and about but I'm not one to bother those guys. I'd say the biggest guy I've talked to is Pastrana. I was at a race we were both racing in and was out walking around the track to see what to expect and he was doing the same, just started talking to me like he was a normal guy. If I could trade lives with anyone it would undoubtedly be him.
I have met j-z.... he is a legend around these parts.... his popcorn spewing is infamous.
I met the guy who used to dress as a sheriff and say "You're in a heap a-trouble, boy" on the Dodge commercials in the early 1970s.
I was in Dealey Plaza the day when J-Z spewed the popcorn from the grassy knoll that actually killed JFK.
Norm knows J-Z but does not like to admit it.
Tha-tha-tha-that's all folks, Goodnight.
So, Jet... are you saying you were the second spewer?
Well, I did peak in a window and see Norman Shwartzcauf (Spelling) speaking.
I shook hands with Mercury Morris once and got to check out his super bowl ring. No, he didn't offer to sell me a dime bag.
The encounter with Jared was scariest because we didn't speak, we just made eye contact. Making eye contact with the Subway Dude will give you the shivers and make you feel dirty for some reason, or maybe it is just me.
By the way, Wednesday is signing day for the players enrolling in January. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we get 4 or 5.
wakerider - to answer your question... yes, you are.
Does anyone know if Travante Stallworh had knee surgery or not?
wake,
Dempsey is totally a cool dude. My future father in law saw him and recognized him from his acting career so we went over to his garage to talk. I'd never seen him before and only new him as someone who is likely to finish between 7-12 in his race (though he's getting better now). I started asking him about his car, next thing I know he's talking a lot and letting me sit in it. Very humble, totally natural, and nice guy doing what he loves. The girls were jealous when we showed them the pics.
Have a newer aquaintance who is trying to make it on that circuit, and got to share a car with Dempsey for a weekend two seasons ago. He said he was so humble, jealous of my friend for getting into it so early (he was 18 at the time) so that he would have time to actually make it. Great story to hear.
I'd trade lives with Pastrana instantly and without thought if the opportunity was presented to me.
When I was working in radio I got to interview a lot of somewhat famous people...
Bobby Bowden
Terry Bowden
Phil Fullmer
Pat Summitt
Buzz Peterson
Jerry Green
Bob Saget
Butterbean
Kevin Nash
There are plenty of others, but those were some that jump out.
One of the reasons I hate recruiting is we had Bobby Bowden on a signing day show we were doing and one of the co-hosts of the show had me hang up on him because one of the Alliance Sports (pre-Rivals I believe) recruiting "experts" was calling in and they needed the line Bowden was on for him. So Bowden waited through a commercial break for me to have to tell him that we just don't have time for him.
butterbean. awesome.
I met Jet once....well, by met, I mean we shook hands. He didn't talk to me.
I was in line getting a hot dog with Reggie Torbor at an A-Day game a couple of years ago.
No, DMiller ...
I was filming what is now known as the ...
The Za-SPEW-der film.
Good drizzly morning, Hotties!
Mornin and War Eagle everyone
Brush with fame. The district attorney at the time for the great state of Alabama Don Siegelman help put a grill together at the house. Dad was his wife's professor at TSUM, and they were family friends. Little did we know that he would become the Governor, and then a convict.
2nd brush with greatness. Met Tree Rollins in a supermarket in Fayetteville, GA.
As I think about it my Dad has had MANY more brushes with greatness than I have. He dated Pierre Lacoste's daughter for a little bit. AND he met Sammy Davis, Jr.
Looks like another quiet day on the blog. I'll take this over dealing with "how bad it's gotten at AU", and "who's the next coach going to be" like we dealt with last year at this time. The stability is nice to have.
Then again it may have been mentioning a former governor that put the thread to sleep.
morning. another not so beautiful day in east tennessee. oh, well.
Life not looking up for Tiger. Apparently the FBI is investigating one of his doctors for steroids.
Interesting Waker..
Nothing would surprise me about Tiger at this point.
john ritter and his family sat behind me and my wife at a beverly hills cafe when we were out there for the 2002 USC game. mr. ritter asked if we thought it was hot in the cafe too and asked the place to turn on the a/c for us. he died a few months later.
i shook seigelman's hand too. he was standing by himself outside of JH before the iron bowl. he was around the student section entrance. he was governor at the time and i always thought it odd he was just standing there by himself. and i'm sure it was seigelman. not too many folks wear a suit to the iron bowl.
I've met Seigelman a number of times but I don't consider that to have been a brush with greatness.
I'm really upset that I will never meet Bernard Madoff at an airport. Dude lived big.
Walked past the Conan O'Brien in the streets of New York once. Also once passed by world famous soccer coach Jose Mourinho in the streets of London with nobody else around. Saw Tony Blair do Prime Minister's Questions in the Houses of Parliament.
While attending the NCAA Golf Championships in 1996, Tiger drove a ball right next to me and I was right next to him for his second shot, but I'm not really claiming that brush with greatness these days.
Got Adam Sandler to sign a kippah for me once. He was hanging with Tom Arnold. It was pretty funny.
Another vicarious brush with greatness. Thanks for the reminder PF. My brother in law stood next to Bob Dylan for Yom Kippur services a year ago.
I gave Bruce Babbitt and Howell Heflin a tour of some of the forestry research plots when I was a grad student. Heflin had a gift for asking straightforward, cut to the chase kind of questions, much to my surprise. Bruce Babbitt, not so much.
FSJ will like this one. I used to play backyard football with Kevin Turner (J-Z and I also went to high school with him. He was two years behind us.) I will say that I still cheered mightily when he fumbled in the 89 Iron Bowl.
Didn't you think it was odd the KT went from 180 lbs to 230 between graduation and the fall of his freshman year?
That's just a good training regimen right j-z?
Sounds like a great training regiment...
PF - I'm sure Bernie would appreciate visitors at his home in Butner, NC.
Yes, KT did get rather huge rather quickly.
Kathy
I probably did know him or at least had contacts through the many meetings we had during that time. We were static testing the S1C booster and I worked for Chrysler.
I used to play backyard football with Freddie Kitchens. He grew up down the street from me and should have gone to school at Emma Sansom but somehow figured out a way to go to Etowah. Trust me when I say this. Freddie was the smartest person in his family....when he was 15. It's amazing that he has gone as far as he has in life. He really is a good guy.
Played ball against Patrick Nix and Toderick Malone growing up too.

it's hard to find better pre-marriage memories than backyard football
When I was 10 or 11, I played in one backyard football game at the home of Jay G's least favorite sports radio host
Said host broke his collarbone.
Hahahahahahaha.
slow day, so I mosey over to al.com/auburnfootball where I see a link about UTx professors upset about Mack Brown's new $5 MILLION salary. Most of the comments correctly berate the professors, but this one made me laugh...
"Coach Chiznek needs 8 million a year after the big Moral victory."
Jet - I have a recollection that the previously mentioned host was almost accosted by a couple of our classmates due to the way he broke up with another of our schoolmates. As I remember it, he refused to come out of his car and it was being vigorously rocked on either side by our homeboys. My memory is fuzzy, it has been quite awhile. But it was either said host, or another large Carter Hill Rd school boy with the initials of KD who later married one of my cousins.
Sound familiar?
despite the feeling that we're already there, dead period doesn't start until Monday. Is AU hosting official visits this weekend?
JUCO OT Roszell Gayden to announce his decision tomorrow. He's from MN, currently in JUCO in California (not at same school as Joel Bonolomo). This could make SteveFC very happy if Mr. Gayden chooses AU! ... yeah, it would make me happy, too.
i've felt pretty dead myself the past two days. ugh.
it would be nice to add another OT.
If wtc followed recruiting he would be all over this.
Brandon Mosley - Jefferson, GA product, DE at Coffeyville, KS, JUCO supposed to announce today? He prefers TE, but AU supposedly recruiting as OL, so that may not help.
Mosley will enroll somewhere next month, and can count towards the 2009 class.
Anyone heard Mosley's announcement?
Yea, the prospect of Gayden is exciting. I still keep reading where we are in the running for Eric Mack. 2011 will be rough with the departure of so many offensive linemen. It would be great if the replacements are in place with this class.
I'm concerned about Eric Mack's fatherly responsibilities back in SC. Not sure AU would be best for him, and vice versa. I wish him the very best whatever he decides.
I have read that Brandon Mosley has eliminated Auburn and is down to Ole Nutt and FSU. Here is the link. I don't know how credible it is. It is so short, I wouldn't put a lot of weight behind it.
Scout seems to think Brandon Mosley will sign with FSU or Ole Miss.
Just think, Ole Miss can resign all those players that didn't get in last year and it will just about fill up their class this year.
I just really want to see us get 4 or 5 of these early signings. It should really help depth. I am also hoping we don't see a lot of players that are marginal qualifiers in February. Those have been killers. I think Adams, the guy that was an Auburn commit but didn't qualify, is suppose to sign early too, although he is supposedly Tennessee bound.
Norm ...
That was definitely KD ... I was involved in a later fracas that led to a confrontation with KD. He responded by collecting his brother who was an Auburn walk-on ... They followed us to EP's house. But EP's stepfather -- a bodybuilding sort who was probably on 'roids -- dismissed them with a quick word.
you bunch of sissies
If we are playing brushes of greatness, this is my list:
Mike Ditka
Tiger Woods
Michael Jordan
Charles Barkley
Allen Houston
Wade Houston
Terry Bowden
Bobby Bowden
Tommy Bowden
Rich Rodriguez
Tommy Tuberville
Mark Richt
Don Walsh
Johnny Majors
Pat Dye
Lee Corso
Jimbo Fisher (I guess I can list him now that he is a HC)
Dr J
Bo Jackson
I'm sure there are several others, that is all I can think of right off hand.
U.S. television evangelist Oral Roberts dead at 92
Another brush with fame - I came within literally 6 inches of plowing over l'il Jon with my truck after he walked right out in front of me.
Jet - KD's brother JD is a scrawny cuss now. I'd forgotten about the part of them going to EP's house. The funny addendum to the story; JC and I were at a bar one night and saw my previously mentioned cousin sitting with KD. We thought he was hitting on her so when he left to go to the bathroom we immediately started in on how she needed to stay far, far away from him. A lot of disparaging remarks about him, yadah, yadah, yadah... She said, "we've been dating for 3 weeks." So now they've been married for 21 years.
I just heard something on CNBC about the iPhone and dropped calls. It said that dropped calls may not be due to the AT&T network, but with a problem with a chip in the iPhone. This could be good news for iPhone owners because it might be easier to have one chip replaced than to wait for AT&T to improve their network. They said AT&T hasn't publicized this because they don't want to piss off Apple, who they love.
Steve,
I'm not buying it on the AT&T/Apple thing..
The author of the report is a longtime Steve Jobs critic.
Norm ...
So I guess that makes KD a cousin humper. No, wait, I forgot. They've been married for 21 years.
Nevermind.
The 1986 Cotton Bowl is on the CBS sports network right now for those who get it.
However it's now at the bad part where A&M scores the 2 4th quarter TD's to put it away.
Practice tomorrow, right? Any videoing going to take place?
Auburn has two recruits signing Wednesday. Both are highschoolers that are graduating early and enrlling in January and will be ready for spring drills.
Jessel Curry-LB from GA
Craig Sanders-DE from Ariton, AL
Au is hoping to land three more players Wednesday. All are from the JUCO ranks. all three can enroll in January.
R. Gayden-big OT from Cali.
B. Moseley- TE that will move to OT. Big kid.
K. Adams-former AU commit, non-qualifier, Juso grad, Tenn commit now, looking at changing to AU.
None of these guys have crossed AU off the list dispite any rumors or reports. Steve, you are correct in not putting much stock in that link.
AU is hosting a 3* High School DB Wednesday also. He is from FL. Bringing his dad. this is an unofficial visit. If the visit goes well, he will commit Wednesday.
Boy, this HABOTN thing might really take off if anyone followed and could comment on recruiting.
If his visit does not go well or he decides not to take the offer, I hear the fall back guy is a 4* DB that visited this past weekend, but got no offer. Name Is R. Knight.
All the above info is not gathered from any paysites, just stuff I make up since I do not follow recruiting. Well not much anyway.
Norm-Maybe we can get lucky and someone will just jump in with some nugget of information that all of us can latch on to and savor for a day or two.
OT-My brush with semi greatness was running and passing Katy Holmes in the New York marathon. I also passed Princess Leah, Luke Skywalker and Chewy.
wtc - we can dream.
So if the Big Ten decides to add yet another member to the conference, at what point to they finally give up the name "the Big Ten", which is already the Big Eleven?
I just watched this week's How I Met Your Mother. I want that shirt.
I'm hurting for some 'cruitin' news. Doesn't anybody on here follow recruiting?
I know a guy.
lol, wtc.
I think we have a fair shot at Rozell Gayden tomorrow if that makes you feel better, THT.
There's a guy in Montgomery that used to follow recruitin'. His daughter went to high school with my son. They both go to Auburn now.
I'm not sure now ... he had a nervous breakdown after paying thousands for a sofa. Now, he drives all day in a Murano muttering to himself.
Jet - remember "bypass man"? I predict a similar existence for the Murano driving, muttering old codger.
Oh, another brush with greatness, I played baseball and football in HS vs Todd Helton.
Ok, here's another brush with fame. Remember "My Three Sons"? I met and hung out with "Robbie" and "Katie". She was hot.
Freddie Milons tried to strip a ball from me in pre-game warm-ups at the 2001 Iron Bowl.
I held on.
Unfortunately, it didn't preface similar success for our team.
meow
jhag being catty.
Norm - wasn't "Katie" old enough to be your mother?
Tina Cole (born August 4, 1943, Hollywood, California) is an American actress and singer. She is best-known for her role as "Katie Miller Douglas" on the 1960s sitcom My Three Sons. She was also a member of the "King Family Singers".
THT - indeed she was, but at the time of our meeting I was maybe 7 and she was on a tv show so she was hot in my book.
Knock, knock. Anybody home?
Candygram for Mr. Mongo.
I'm so excited and I just can't hide it. I'm goin, I'm goin to the Outback Bowl.
Anybody on here follow recruitin'. I need me some cruitin' news.
The 3* DB that is visiting tomorrow, that WTC mentioned, is currently AU's top priority for the DB position.
He'll be in town tomorrow to tour the facilities and observe practice. IF he enjoys his visit, he could likely commit before leaving town. IF that happens, we'd be through with DB prospects for this class.
Where is 2.0 when I need her. We could take this thread to 1000 if she were here.
Yeah. Get us some good DBs.
Get us some good O linemen. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Give it to me I need more cow bell.
Mal Moore recognizes the importance of off weeks to a teams readiness and all of the other SEC AD's agree. href="http://www.tuscaloosanews.com/article/20091215/news/912159985">
Sire wish all of you guys were going to be with us in Tampa in the o-f-f-i-c-i-a-l HABOTN section of Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Flawda. Good times to be had by all.
Uh, typo. sire =sure.
Even if he is right, I don't give a rats rear end about what Mal Moore thinks. Just sayin'.
TNT says the ducats are on the way, just like Santa with the toys in his sleigh.
IV's rolling tonight!
The old man killed another thread, so goodnight all, see ya later.
IV ...I normally wouldn't care about anything that Moore says either ...it's just that I happen to agree with him on this. So do all of the other SEC ADs.
I made a point about AU
being a tired team and playing against rested teams earlier this past season and several of the "heavy posters" on here poo-pooed it. I offered stats and they ignored them. Their reasoning was that AU was just supposed to play harder.
I guess those bloggers know more about football than ADs ...I'm certain that they think they do anyway.
So what are you saying Hoop? Do the teams need a week off in between every game so they won't be tired? It is the same for every team, it just depends on when you want to take your week off.
The players are also 18-22 year old students, not grownmen like the pros. These kids typically get mentally and physically drained after 5-8 games in a row. The tuffer the conference the more the off-week helps the team.
Moore was complaining because Bama happened to be playing a bunch of teams that were coming off of an off week. While Bama never hesitates to complain that everyone is out to get them, I happen to agree with Ol' cotton-mouthed Mal this time.
One day, when I've got a few more years of wisdom (or a few at all)... I may be able to carry one a full conversation all by myself.
Well it seems to me that if you put more than one off week in the schedule, especially before games you want to be well prepared for, you will be playing well into January for the regular season.
The player's daily schedules are made up and monitored by the coaches. These kids hardly have a free moment. Considering the lax discipline/scheduling in today's high schools, these kids aren't mentally tuff enough to stay focussed without a break.
I also agree that Auburn was a tired team; however, I believe that was due to the lack of quality depth more than anything the stats might show. I also believe that Auburn having to play the schedule it had made it a tougher team by the time UAT came calling. I believe Auburn's off week came at the right time this year.
I'm not saying more than one week off during the season, just a week off more toward the middle of the schedule.
Actually my point for posting the article was to point out that the SEC AD's seem to feel the same as me regarding off weeks.
I was being a smart alec because of the rediculous comments I received earlier this season.
Lack of depth definitely hurt. I just wonder if we would have beat Ky and UGA if we had an off week after Ark. I think the coaches did as well as should be reasonably expected managing the situation.
Teams that play the Thursday night TV games always take a week off before those games. Then they have extra time before another game the week following. That is like having two weeks off in your schedule. I wouldn't like Thursday night games if I were a season ticket holder, but there seems to be an advantage to playing them as far as the coaches and players are concerned.
We need to schedule Georgia for a Thursday night game. Take the week off before and then have extra time off before the UAT game. Just kidding.
I remember we played on Thursday nite prior to Labor Day in 1991 or 1992. A group of us took Fri. off work, drove over from Atl on Thu., watched the game, partied after the game, played 36 holes at the RTJ course on Fri and then drove ack to Atl to begin the Labor day weekend.
I'm way too old to do that now.
Tha, tha, tha, tha, thats all folks. Goodnight.
IV ..if you'll draft the letter to JJ regarding your outstanding UGA game idea, I'm sure that myself and many other Hotties will sign the letter with you. haha
just make sure it's a year we play in Athens.
You'll never hear me poo poo the notion that an off week is important. I think it's a big reason Georgia has taken four in a row against us. It's why I hate the 12th game. We need to start the season a week earlier or end it a week later and make sure these guys two off weeks during the season, not just one.
The off week is important as it gives you a chance to heal up, get some rest and extra time to fix what's not working.
It was especially important this year due to our lack of depth, which I feel hurt us far more this year than the week off being so late.
Hoopie, I like you, but when people disagree with you, it's not you against the world. It just happens on a message board.
E-Bro,
You may be onto something about the UGA losses the last four years with us having the off week so late in the season...or not having an off week at all like in 2006.
As far as the Kentucky and Georgia games go, maybe the off week earlier would have helped us against them, but in those games (and in others) it seems that once the defensive coordinator adapted to what we were doing, we didn't have an answer.
This year's team is a team that offensively didn't know how to pull out the win in close games. We had three really good opportunities (4 if you count the comeback we started at Arkansas, but that was more of a defensive breakdown) to have game winning drives that we couldn't capitalize on. Those are moments where hopefully the underclassment learned a lot and will change that in the coming years.
Good morning, Hotties.
Did I miss anything?
