Calling around on Cam Newton: First and Last Part
Hey everyone. I am working on a story about Cam Newton, Auburn's 5-star quarterback who signed last month. He played sparingly during two seasons at Florida. He played all the time at Blinn (Texas) College.
I've been talking with the Southwest Junior College Football Conference coaches who schemed against Newton last fall.
Here's what Donnie Bigby, head coach at Northeastern Oklahoma, had to say.
Newton's numbers in Blinn's 55-42 win against NEO:
17-29, 302 yards, 2 TDs
*OF NOTE -- Newton was suspended for the first quarter.
Bigby on Newton: ``He's the most athletic and skilled quarterback I've seen since Michael Bishop. (Bishop, who later starred at Kansas State, played at Blinn in 1996.) You could tell he had tons and tons of potential. I'm talking about raw talent you just don't see at this level."
Bigby on what NEO did to match up with Newton: ``He's such a big kid. He looks like a defensive lineman, to be honest. I think he'd be a tough matchup on his own -- if he was the only guy on his team. The thing is that he had a great supporting cast last season. We couldn't just worry about him, but he created a lot of problems."

PF is too quick. I better just stick to #88.
THT - thank you for page 2 of the article! My life is now more complete!
I was right there man
What will he be announceing, wtc?
...and will he stick by his announcement next week, or freak everyone out and change his mind?
thanks, wtc. If that's CST, I hopefully will be on the drive home then.
my bad peter
does michael have a talking goat?
Now you know how the Northwestern placekick holder felt 1 yard away from the endzone, phred.
you are welcome, Michael. Does that earn me an irrevocable visa to Eurasia?
I have the same car problems as Luv has, except BOTH of mine are being recalled.
Certainly, THT. I just need you to fill out some paperwork and give me your credit card information.
i have a stash of credit cards i stole from illegal aliens. I figured they wouldn't press charges for fear of deportation. So i do all the charging. HAHAHA. I'll send you a few of those.
Is this Michaels goat
Language is bad so no young ears.

Luv, I think your right. The mat thing was a joke when we asked about it at the dealer.
I guess I will wait and see and hope I don't plow into a tree.
(I knew I should have bought a Honda.)
stupup, I was down to a Corolla or Civic. After I got the Corolla, I wished I had gotten a Civic. I've had three Civics in my life and loved every one them.
Luv
you asked last week what sales I was in. It is Mobile Homes in the auburn/opelika area.
We have a honda pilot and love it it my second one
1. JayG, I apologize for the ..umm.. uncouth remarks a couple of days back about your comprehensive coverage / article on Cam Newton. I've come to realize that his football career so far would be an interesting topic, with all those twists and turns.
Now that out of the way, can you give us some more substance? Many of us are having withdrawls here.
He wrote a substancial article today, Aero...or so I've heard, I haven't read it yet.
stupup, I had a Mazda CX-7 and really liked it, but when gas was $4/gallon, I traded it in on the '09 Corolla. Who knew 6 months later, gas prices were gonna drop?
yes PF
AU Class Building Momentum
Yes it is good
PF
Aeronaut does not have time to read the paper he is a responsible person.
"I am a very responsible person. Whenever anything goes wrong, I am held responsible."
Yes, Aero, check out JGT's article in today's MA. It is substance rich.
bigdaddy, thanks for answering my question. I had forgotten I had even asked you! LOL
Cars = I have owned so many. Bought my first one in 1954 and must say ALL have been made in America by one of the "old" big three. I drive a car 10 years or longer. I have had excellent service with all but one and it was about 9 years old when it gave me a problem.
Good maintenance and good luck accounts for this magnificent run.
Everyone has there ideas and chices on what they buy and enjoy riding in.
Digger, so do you have a favorite?
2. I've owned (and LOVED) Nissans. My first car was a Datsun. Datsun wasn't a US Domestic brand. Models are different here. Cefiro, Silvia, Auster, Sunny (=Sentra), Patrol (=Pathfinder) and Navara / Winner (=Frontier).
It's a mess.
Luv I have owned more Chrysler products (my two vehicles right now are 1991 Dodge Caravan and 2001 Chrysler Town and Country)
But my 2 favorites were 1966 Dodge Coronet 500 and 1986 Buick Regal.
Whew. Thanks for the info, PF. I'm going to look for the article.
BigDaddy is right.
Digger, I had to google a Coronet. That was a hot car!
I've had a love hate relationship with a BMW 540i. That was the best car I've ever owned / the worst car ever that owned me.
I will never buy another BMW 540i. That will be my next car.
I hate myself.
Luv it was a beauty. Mine was metallic greenish blue with white top and all white interior. I would have kept it but I got hit in the rear sitting at a light on hiway 41 just north of Marietta,Ga and knocked me into the car in front of me. Total mess.
JGT is in mourning and only time will tell when he will again come out into the light with substance.
Digger,
You should've waited two years or so on the Coronet and gotten the Super Bee. That was a car!.
I also like the early 50s model of that car. Some cool hotrods were made out of those later.
You've kept every car you've had 10 years? That's pretty specatacular.
I used to needle WTC about drving a Murano, which is a chick car.
Then I found out he used to drive a 1980 Chevy Citation, so I don't make fun of his car anymore.
Peter almost, one of the favorites. Dodge Coronet I kept only 6 years due to a drunk hitting me from behind. But I drove a 1986 Ford Falcon for 27 years.
wtc, I promise I'm not laughing at the thought of you in a 1980 citation.
So where the heck is Jay G?
a 1986 for 27 years?
I'm in a time warp right now, aren't I?
I love my Toyota Tundra.
Yep Peter, my mistake it was a 1968 not 1986. It was my go to work car and I drove it every day and would have gooten rid of it but it just kept cranking and running so I kept driving it.
WTC, I'm not getting a good feeling about Coleman. Does your mom know anything about this situation.
Life would not be the same without Typo's
We in the Norm household typically drive our vehicles for 10+ years too. Hot wife is driving an 11 y/o Infiniti, and my previous Explorer was 12 y/o with well over 200k on it when I traded it in on the Tahoe I currently have.
digger - one of our rare non-toyota cars was a babe magnet aka Chrysler Town & Country minivan. I loved that car. It just flat up and died when it turned 10. Our 4Runner is 14 years old. We have every intention of keeping a car 10 years when we buy it.
Jay Leno never would've had his best segment (Headlines) without typos. Conan would've taken over years earlier, and there would've been no recent controversy. Typos make the world go round.
No matter what you drive, your car needs one of these.
another reason I like HABOTN.... sensible folks here.
Aero - your BMW comments made me chuckle.
The typical Peter Frankenschmidt vehicle shelf-life is a 2 years. You 10 year people are amazing.
CH, why do you not feel good about Coleman?
My love/hate car was a 1980 Mazda RX-7. I had it during most of my time at AU. It was cool-looking and fun, but it was finally time to get rid of it when it started spending more time in the shop than out.
by amazing, do you mean cheap? ;-)
There've been 2 cars in my time which did not make it to 10 years. The first was an Oldsmobile something, had to replace the engine (covered by warranty) and it was just never really right after that. Volvo 740GLE, had to replace engine and transmission which ain't cheap on a Swiss car. Dumped it as soon as possible after that.
THT if one of my cars up and died at 10 years old I would set it on fire in the parking lot of the dealer. I would call the local newspaper first to see the big lemon I had painted on the side.
Because he is $aban is at his school today and then he is heading to walmartian land till Friday.
something that lasts 10 years ain't a lemon.
Sorry that post didn't make sense at the begining. Stupid work is messing with my ability to blog. I think you understand what I was trying to say.
CH-quit being a Saban homer! Lol j/k. He's visited Bama before, he said he was going to take all his visits. Right now he is committed to Auburn. WTC's mom has said she doesn't think we will lose any of our commits.
Hi All!
This gal has been out of the HABOTN loop for the last couple of days. Is everything still quiet on the recruiting front or is their any earth shattering news I should be aware of?
WDE and still hatin' on Bama.
Nothing earth-shattering as of yet. I've been keeping a pretty close eye on things as we're supposed to be hearing some news any day now, this is from Curtis Luper.
Back to the Leno segment on "headlines".
The best article headline I have ever seen was I think in 2003. It was Jason Campbell and Cox fighting for the starting job. The headline read " Campbell beats Cox".
Come to Bama, aight!
*this is the beast's spot
Gotcha! Thanks for the update. So is Seastrunk completely a non-factor or is he a maybe? Also, how is everyone feeling about Lattimore? I appreciate all you great folks btw.
This comment has been removed by the author.
I listened to the Luper interview last week on JOX and he said we would get some committments by today. I havne't even heard the slightest rumor on that happening.
If Seastrunk commits to AU today I will be totally shocked.
Lattimore is considered an AU lean and is probably going to sign with AU.
Seanzie is on it! Now I feel officially back in the loop. Must head off to work however.
Keep up the hatin' gang.
Hopefully we'll get Lattimore.
I remember an Arkansas paper having the headline of "Nutt blames Dick for late night indescretion" after Casey Dick threw an interception to lose a game in overtime for Arkansas.
A famous surgeon was asked who was the easiest to operate on.
He said:
Politicians are the easiest to operate on. There's no guts, no heart, no balls, no brains, and no spine, and there are only two moving parts - the mouth and the arsehole - and they are interchangeable'
CH=B, in 2003 I believe it would have been Campbell and Josh Sullivan for the starting QB job.
that's a good one too Wake. Isn't there and editor who is supposed to read those things? Actually they probably do it on purpose.
Must have been 2004
Norm.
I think Volvo 760 were made in Sweden and Belgium.
good work michael! fastest fingers!
Sean, good job putting Saban where he belongs. I was going to help him get there today, but actually had to work for a few minutes.
Aero - Swiss, Swedes, Dutch, Lilliputians, I don't care. The Volvo didn't hold up for me regardless of who made it.
It looks like our leader has abandoned us. Should we form our own government?
Maybe two rival factions will emerge. That would be fun.
I'll be Piggy since I'm fat, wear glasses and cry a lot.
I have a clown car that I bought at a flea market in New Mexico in 1978. Clowns included.
we haven't been abandoned. Our leader must have been taken hostage. Somebody call Colonel James Braddock.
Look, I know you guys are looking for a new leader, and I know I have a whole country called Eurasia and you heard we had room and everything, but, uhhh.... yeah, there's this thing, and sorry, I just can't help. Too busy. Sorry.

I'm an agent of Chaos.
Afternoon Hotties!
My 2 cents:
Best car I EVER had was a 1971 Chevy Malibu. My dad gave it to me as a graduation present from Auburn. I graduated in 1974. (That was when parents got the new cars and gave the kids the used ones.) I was most appreciative!
That car was made out of real metal. It was a silver bullet with a black vinyl top. That baby could go!
Needless to say I gave it to my son when he was sixteen in 1993 and his brother inherited it in 1995.
They were the envy in high school. They loved that car.
Unfortunately I came home one day and hubby had sold it right out from under me and it was MY car. To this day it is a sore subject and not talked about. That is the one thing that still pisses me off to this day.....so I'm going to quit now, cause I'm getting mad!!!!
I have not yet begun to procrastinate.
All things HOT originate from the HABOTN ... including marital discord!!
I have a feeling that Lattimore will sign with USC.
I know that 4 of the last 5 years USCw was 12th in SEC in rushing.
USCe needs Lattimore much more than Auburn does. That said, I would love to have him. But from any and all indications...he is coming to AU.
Lattimore, Jones, Whittaker, Lemonior and Colemas are all going to be extremely hard in trying to close and sign with Auburn. Doubt we bat 75%.
Eddie, keep the faith man. I bet we get 4/5...and that means we beat your 75%.
Eddie, ye of little faith, there's a reason why so many top recruits have already committed to AU. Trust in the New Sheriff and his impressive Deputies. They have mad skeeeeeeeels.
Seanzie- That's why I threw out the 75%. I think we don't, but hope to be proven wrong. I have faith in coaches, but sometimes it is really tough for these kids to leave the home state with all the pressure they feel.
I'll keep hoping these guys sign, but there are somethings out of our coaches hands, so keeping faith is keeping faith in what?
In our guys, Eddie. I think they can close strong.
faith is a funny thing, it doesn't always give you what you want, sometimes just what you need.
Eddie, quit being a ninny.
Faith in all that is right and good and proper, of course (i.e., highly touted football players coming to Auburn).
Peter...GTH or Disney World.
My mom says we won't land any of those guys. And it won't be the end of the world, because this class is already smokin.
I knew the Ninny Bomb would be dropped on someone soon. My money was on those who bought Toyotas, though.
Disneyworld is heck.
It's on now.
i feel so out of the loop. i have been WAY too productive at work lately. this madness needs to stop!
This comment has been removed by the author.
Toyota practically invented the modern off-road vehicle. No way that's ninnyesque.

Apparently it can't. Peter can't let anything die. What a jackass
Peter- You know the best thing is, I'm not the only on here that thanks you are a jackass. I've had several say the same thing. So go Eff yourself. If you want to discuss things, feel free, you can always find me on saturdays. Thanks for be an al.com level poster. Keep up the good work.
thinks instead of thanks
Come on Eddie, chill dude. PF is caustic. Ignore or have fun with it. Don't get pissed.
Haha. Nice. You should form a posse to tell me how bad I've been.
...anyway, back to recruits. Is anyone announcing today besides Lache?
We've all been couped up in the same thread for too long.
I choose to have fun with everyone and everything here. That's just me. Anyone here is a likely candidate to receive a jab intended in fun from me at just about any time. Jet is another matter altogether. I've been plotting his downfall for going on 30 years now. I'm a patient man, he'll never see it coming.
Lache is the only one scheduled today.
i guess i haven't missed much. yikes. ok, back to work for scottie b. :(
It's getting hot in here ... so take off all your clothes
