Ken Adams signs elsewhere

Hey everyone. Former Auburn signee Ken Adams, a defensive lineman originally from Enterprise High, will play at LSU beginning next season. He signed with Les Miles and Co. earlier today.

He spent the past two seasons at Copiah-Lincoln C.C. in Mississippi.

The Tigers worked hard to make sure Adams re-signed with them. Tennessee did the same thing. Ultimately, though, it was LSU who seized command of the situation.

Is that a blow to the Tigers' recruiting effort? It depends. Auburn could use some prét-a-porter (ready to wear) defensive linemen right now. On the other hand, it has a few good ones committed and is in the running for at least two more major recruits at that position.

The top remaining guy? Looks like Corey Lemonier from suburban Miami.

  13. How do we stand on the recruits that count toward 2009 and the ones that will count toward 2010. Also, how many early enrollers do we have and where do they come from HS and/or JC? Anybody know other than WTC's mother?

  16. The recruiting season gives me ulcers. I hope we can pull Mack and Lattimore, the USCe board is pretty sure that they are getting them, though Rivals has both Lattimore and Mack at 75% of committing to Auburn. Fingers crossed.

  19. We have 5 signed counting back to last year. They will be in school this semester.

Jessel Curry, Craig Sanders, Brandon Mosley, Cam Newton and Rozell Gayden.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Auburn has five newcomers enrolled that count toward the 2009 numbers.

From JUCO: QB Cam Newton, OL Brandon Mosley, OL Roszell Gayden.

From HS: DL Craig Sanders and LB Jessel Curry

    ReplyDelete
  21. 2 of the early enrollees are high school graduates, Curry and Sanders. The others are JC.

  22. Barrack.

That's like the people who still call him Tommy Tubberville. He was here 10 years. It's ONE B.

Looks like a heck of a good fit.

  31. I know I have the maturity of three year old, but I could do this for hours.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Auburn can have up to 30 new guys come in.

Five enroll in January. 22 are commits out of which 1 or 2 are questionable in grades or gray shirt prospects.

However this is a very small senior class. I don't think Auburn will have room to sign 25 (while staying under 85)

According to a rough calculation six guys would need to go to make room for 25.

    ReplyDelete
  33. When Adams didn't get his grades in time and Cam signed, it was over for Adams at AU. At least I think that's what WTC's mom will say.

They sure didn't let it slide when the NY Times came out with that hatchet job on Chette back in 2005. Guess that was different.

  50. By Aeronaut: "According to a rough calculation six guys would need to go to make room for 25."

Only six leaving due to grades, injuries or malcontent over the off season would be an unusually small number. I don't think we'll have a problem enrolling 5+25 and staying under the 85 limit this year.

  61. Coosa ...

That Chette story was nothing but vendetta. Graduates of the Auburn University journalism program hate Lowder with a passion, and any opportunity to embarrass him or Auburn (because of him) would not be avoided because he spearheaded the effort to merge the journalism program with the commuications program.

That's why Selena Roberts should have never, ever been able to write that story.

Conversely, the opposite holds when UAT adjunct professor Rick Bragg gets to write a tongue bath of a cover story on Nick Saban 18 months for Sports Illustrated.

Why is the media in the general sense held in such low esteem? It's no wonder.

  65. I contacted Compass Bank earlier today via their website. I wanted to keep it short, so I stated, "Did you forget that there is another university in Alabama??????????? This new checkcard promotion will alienate a lot of customers and you may also lose some customers because of it. I will most likely be one of them."

    This was their response:
Thank you for your e-mail. No we did not forget. We send the response to Auburn and Alabama as well as many other Universities. However, Alabama was the only one that gave us permission to print at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance, and thank you for choosing BBVA Compass Bank.

  68. Between Jan 08 and Sep 08 a total of 11 guys left the team.

We didn't see what was coming.. the players sure did.

    Jan 09 to Sep 09 : I think 4?

    ReplyDelete
  69. We didn't know it was coming because we didn't know how bad things were. I stated earlier in the year that two players' parents told us that things were pretty bad.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I don't know if this has been discussed, but Mal Moore wants to erect a statue in $aban's likeness. UGH.

    ReplyDelete
  71. You've gotta be kidding.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Next, they will want to put him up for sainthood.

    ReplyDelete
  73. My mom just phoned in. Adams was not ta huge loss for AU. Look for Lemonier to sign. (I think I listed him sa a silent commit about 4 weeks ago). AU is poise dto sign Lattimore, Mack, Whitaker, Thornton or Bryan Jones. One 5* and the rest are 4*.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Ugh, is right, Luv.

Take out all your frustrations on your bammer bank. Move your account to Colonial. Wait, maybe not.

    ReplyDelete
  75. IV, nope. It's the Tuscaloser News.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Not sure where AU will rank with Rivals after signing day, but there are whispers if these guys sign, it could be a #1 class. However, rankings are subjective due tohow different folks are rated. (Example: CJ Moseley is listed as the #7 player in Alabama. He is listed at #99 or so on Rivals overall player ranking. AU has the #3,#5,#6 players in Alabamacommittes. Only one of them is rated aheaded of Moseleyon the Rivals 100 list. Not sure how that happens but it does.)

    ReplyDelete
  77. IV, they haven't already done that?

    ReplyDelete
  78. wtc, you think they wait to announce on Signing Day?

    ReplyDelete
  79. wtc, have you heard anything about Ziemba and one other player declaring for the draft?

    ReplyDelete
  80. wtc, doesn't one of the services not even count juco players? I'd think that would knock our ratings down on whichever one doesn't count them.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Coosa-I think ESPN doesn't count JUCO's.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Kathy-i have heard rumors about Ziemba just testing the waters. He is not a 1st rounder, but is thought of as a draft eligible player. My perosnal opinion is he should stay and improve upon his discipline. Otherwise, he is a good blocker.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I thought AU might lose 1 commit (DJ Howard) to Clemson, as he was taking a visit this weekend. For some reason he cancelled and did nto reschedule. I think he stays now.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I am out for awhile.

FSJ-congrats on your win. Youare the only one I will tell that two. My two running partners, that I have known for 20 years and are BIG UAT fans, will not get that out me, EVER.

    ReplyDelete
  85. The Saban statue will actually be a lawn gnome.

    ReplyDelete
  86. This shouldn't be a big loss. I don't think he was nearly important once he wasn't an early signer. We should be okay on the defensive line.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Brother Jet- if that's the case, what am i going to do with all the extra napalm?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Anonymous5:53 PM

Kathy - I think they all wait until signing day. I do believe that Lattimore will announce the day before signing day at his church.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Faker ...

Who starts at QB next year for your boys?

    Muckleroy or Mucklecarron?

    ReplyDelete
  90. Thanks AU1N04. I expect good news on Signing Day!

    Jet, lawn gnome, funny stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  91. The key part of this recruiting class in my opinion is the linebackers and then offensive line. We seemed to have filled in the linebackers, but Eric Mack on the offensive line is probably the biggest need we have.

We will likely be better next season, but 2011 will be a big concern. We will graduate 4 of 5 offensive linemen. We must have the guys to replace them in this recruiting class.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Congrats to all the promoted people in the HOF...and a big "sucks to be you" to those who were demoted.

  96. Wow, I thought I was a part of a strong HABOTN recruiting class, but attrition seems to have hit hard. Jay, we gotta stop going after these partial qualifiers.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Hoopie, you don't understand. A job at Walmart is a dream that many Bambi hope to achieve. To Bambi Walmart is the promised land.

    ReplyDelete
  98. They don't even mention the pickup truck that has been bought to carry the trophy. It is nice. Mud flaps and everything.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I'm in a bad mood anyway, so this is the perfect time to ask this question.

One of uat writers for the bammerham news wrote a column a few days ago essentially saying that sec fans should hush about a play-off, that we have reached the point where the sec champion is sure to go to the BCS championship game anyway.

My response is that is true ONLY if the winner is one of predetermined anointed media darlings. Suppose the following had happened:

Every AU game goes just as it happened, except Todd completes the TD pass to Fanin against KY, and we win that one. Then Bynes intercepts the pass right in his hands against GA, and we win that one. And then suppose the refs call that obvious pick play against uat and we win that one.

Also suppose the TN kicked doesn't get injured and gets his kick up against uat and they win the game.

OK, a lot of ifs there, but just suppose. AU would go to Atlanta instead of uat, and we would have still had all of the glaring weaknesses and lack of depth. But suppose somehow we beat FL - would we have gone to the BCS game at 11-2?

I'd say not a chance. Anybody disagree?

  101. Sorry coosa, that has too many ifs in it for me and it seems to be relevant to the if a frog had wings discussion.

    ReplyDelete
  102. TN kicker, not TN kicked.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Making it simlper, an undefeated Auburn team this year would have been in the BCSNCG. Beating both Alabama and Florida to end the season would have definitely done it.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Steve - You are right, but just go with my bad mood. Its Us against the world, the classic battle of Good and evil.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Saban to Dallas or USC (after pete leaves for Seattle)???

    Whats the word????

    ReplyDelete
  106. Steve, I think an 11-2 AU team that just beat GA, AL, and FL would be far more deserving than the 2 loss LSU team that went. But we never would have made it.

My point is that the bammer writer is wrong and seeing the world through crimson glasses.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Personally, I don't want Saban leaving. This last Iron Bowl was as close to being a real Iron Bowl we have had in years. I want to see and Iron Bowl where the winner goes to the SECCG. It could happen in 2010.

    ReplyDelete

Rumors are that TTU offered Tubs a 10 yr deal, but Tubs had to keep the DC. Tubs turned it down b/c he doesn't need more meddling uber-boosters. While these are just interweb rumors, the story seems plausible.

    USF seems tailor-made for Tubs.

    ReplyDelete
  110. coosa, that LSU BCS appearance was bizarre. I suspect voter drinking in that one. And no, I don't think an 11-2 Auburn team should go to the BCSNC if you have undefeated teams like Cinci, Boise State, and TCU. You may give a one loss team a nod if they lost to a quality opponent, but not two losses.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Hoopie, it wouldn't surprise me. I do think CTT has some control freak in him.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Steve, I agree again, I don't think an 11-2 AU should have gone this year.

I'm not sure that if this AU team had somehow pulled out multiple miracles and gone 13-0 that we would have made it over Cincinnati. The espn guys would have pounded us continuously over the fact that we had 3 linebackers and were so bad on special teams.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Anonymous6:33 PM

DL ..I don't think $aban leaves Bama. No one else will give him the keys to the place like Bama.

He has already donated $1mil to their private athletic scholly fund. I think he stays at Bama until they turn on him.

    ReplyDelete
  114. G-I'm not sure that Auburn really went after him that hard once all of our spots from last year were full. The coaches really want Lemonier and he will sign.

  120. Lookee at JGT, dropping the odd bon mot in his Ken Adams post.

Reminds me of the best movie review I ever read. About 15 years ago there was a Robert Altman film about the fashion industry, "Ready To Wear". The film had been called "Prét-a-Porter" right up until its release, but the studio decided to change it to the English translation to avoid any confusion amongst the middlebrow American audience.

The New Yorker summed up its lukewarm review of the film thusly: "As with many Altman films, all the pieces are there, but ultimately the film lacks a certain, I-know-not-what."

Big thanks for the upgrade to FTH, and many kudos for all you do JGT. Keep the drivel coming!!!

    ReplyDelete
  121. anyone who is going after $aban,, will have the money and will know the score.

Jerry Jones has the money and would give $aban the keys....

USC woudl be interesting based on the Bush charges.. coaches may not want the baggage

    ReplyDelete
  122. Anonymous7:11 PM

I think that if $aban want more money, Bama will give him whatever he wants.

The only reason for Saban to go to Dallas would be for some sick ego resaon to pick fights with the meddlin' Jerry Jones and win. I don't think Saban has that kind of ego. He is more inwardly focussed on perfection than matching wits and ego. I hope I'm wrong.

Nevertheless, I like what we're doing and Bama/Saban had better watch out ..we'll be coming after them.

    ReplyDelete

  144. JGT, Thanks for making me a notable newcomer. I am honored. Thanks for making the blog a welcoming place.

Thanks to yodaddy334, my best friend, college roomie, and the guy who sent me the link to the HABOTN. I have been hooked ever since.

Thanks to all the hotties for making this place fun to post, and for making this a place much more welcoming and friendly unlike some blogs I have post on.

Micheal said in the earlier post that the new class looks like a Tubs recruiting class. Well, I feel like a two star recruit to this team. Hopefully with a little coaching up from the HOTTIES I will develop and become a first rounder like Ben Grubbs.

  145. Was Target to classy for a Bammer trophy celebration?

If Bama had lost last night would they have SEC championship trophy celebrations at Dollar General

    ReplyDelete
  146. Man where did everyone go? Scott choc I was just asking for a job in the gump to get the heck away from bammerham. I would love a job in Auburn, but there isn't much to choose from. If anyone knows of a distribution/transportation management position let me know.

  148. Norm and I knew Ken Adams. He doesn't fit into what we're trying to do at Auburn ... especially since he's about 50.

  149. Good night Hotties, it's been a long day of avoiding all of the obnoxious inbreds.

  160. You know, I've been an Auburn man for a pretty long time, all my conscious life actually. Notice I didn't say fan. I said man. There is a difference. I believe in Auburn, and I truly do love it. I really do. But for all of the wonderful things about being an Auburn man, when it comes to sports, with a handful of brief periods as the exception, we mostly have mostly thought and acted like losers. "We don't worry about stars. We coach them up." That's loser talk, easily recognized for the load of crap that it is. Sometimes, every now and then, that philosophy has produced some exceptional teams. But most of the time it has not. Winners go after winners. Losers go after whoever is left. Good recruiting builds championship teams, and quickly. I offer last night as an example.

I say all of that as a prologue to this statement. I love our coaching staff. I love them because, with the exception of Chizik, and his experience coming during one of those brief periods I brought up earlier, they didn't know a single damn thing about Auburn before they got here. They didn't know that we don't go after the best recruits because they aren't "Auburn men". They thought we went after the best recruits, coached them up, and turned them into Auburn men. So far so good. It appears they haven't yet been scolded yet for doing it everybody else's way. Good for them. Good for us.

Our staff is going to produce a great class this year. They are going to do it next year too. It will work like magic. Again, I offer last night as my example. Two #1 recruiting classes and a MNC in the third year.

War Eagle, and if you see any of the coaches, please don't tell them that going after four and five stars is not how we do things at Auburn. I'd prefer they didn't know that.

  161. Hey CH=B=claim13, you interested in Atlanta for work? Traffic sucks, but there are very few Bama fans here (we met our quota and shipped the rest back to Bammerham), and there are a lot of Auburn Men and Women. Anyway, if you see this, send me an e-mail to gaines.harrell@gmail.com.

  163. Good morning, Hotties!
I am in Auburn and it is wonderful! Unfortunately, we will be painting and cleaning carpets at the student condo we have for sale (shameless plug) so we won't get to go to the game. I can't wait until we can move here!!

Congrats to all the hotties making moves toward the ring of fire.

  164. So far, I haven't seen a single bammie, but I haven't been to Wal-Mart :)

    ReplyDelete
  165. Ran into my first pair of bammers yesterday. They had to give us a Roll Tide when we walked into Beef's last night, and then came over to our table to show us a picture of a Elephant mounting a Longhorn Steer. The only thing I got out of that picture is that bammers are A) into homosexual relationships and B) get off on pictures of bestiality.

    ReplyDelete
  166. hey, hey, I'm a "Notable Newcomer"...gotta start somewhere eh?

As for Adams, I'm with the side that thinks Auburn cooled on him. With only 5 spots open, I've heard the same names everywhere as having claim to those spots:

Lattimore, Lemonier, Mack, Whitaker, and Thornton...not to mention nobody knows what Seastrunk will do.

  167. Cincy - c'mon now, if you've been to WalMart, even if it's in Auburn, you've seen bammer. Maybe they're smart enough to be incognito at that particular store, but they're in WalMart, of this much you can be certain.

So it's Saturday, it's too blasted cold for the future 4* and I to do anything outside. I'm not too much of a basketball fan and he's sure not. Once my hot wife makes it downstairs to join us boys, I'm sure she'll have some wonderful suggestions on what we can do.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Oh, I see I misread Cincy's post. Please forgive me, I'll blame it on the eye thing.

  170. I have a 2 yr old daugther. Can she be a future 4*?

    ReplyDelete
  171. No problem, Norm. I am actually headed to Wal-Mart momentarily to get carpet cleaner. I'm sure I will see a bammie or two there. It is 19 degrees in Auburn. Brrrrr!

    ReplyDelete
  172. I'll be back later, have to take my wife's car to the dealer. Then I am all alone till the am with the future womens 4*. Wish me luck!

  173. Does this mean I am an official Hottie?????

Told my hubby that I AM a Hottie! His reply, "Pfffffft!"

Then again we have been married 35 years..............

Seriously, I don't make many notable posts but I'm always here getting my Auburn fix.

And thank you all for making me laugh a whole lot..it is such good medicine for what ails ya!

Thanks Jay G., 'preciate it! And as much as I love Auburn thanks for keeping it real for us.

  174. missinit,
How are you feeling? Continuing to recover nicely I hope.

    ReplyDelete
  175. One lat comment. We all need to email Auburn and let them know how upset we will be if they try to display our MNC trophy (you know the one we WILL win shortly) in Wals Marts (spelling on purpose). I would be horrified. I go to Wal-Mart from time to time but I am not a Walmartian.

  176. Thanks for asking cincy!

I had one small bump in the road but my doctor told me Thursday that I would have to find something else to die from cause it wasn't gonna be my thyroid. I'm holding her to it........

I will have one iodine treatment to zap any residual thyroid tissue in February. Then I will be through.

Unfortunately I still cannot talk very well....said it may take three months. Had to stretch the vocal chord nerve(s) while in surgery and they are evidently very persnickity and are mad at me.

Thyroid surgery is virtually painless but man it left me exhausted....guess it just takes time!

Anyway I am an Auburn woman so I will survive,....foe show !
