Schedule update
Hey everyone. Sorry for the lack of posts yesterday. I made a (rare) trip into Advertiser headquarters to handle some business. That generally results in me talking at length with people in there, I lose track of time, 2 o'clock turns into 5 o'clock and then I'm done.
You know what I mean?
We'll pick up the annual Auburn Season Review project this afternoon.
I'm thinking it should be a position-by-position look: How did players perform at each position, who will play those positions next season and which newcomers could become a factor?
I'll start with quarterback. See you around 2 p.m. CST.
A STEP FORWARD: In our thirst for pushing the envelope here at the HABOTN, we probably will have a HABOTN Technological Breakthrough® to share with you this afternoon. As such, we encourage you to be here around 2 if possible.
AS FOR THE PICTURE: That's Matt Kemp. He's one of my favorite baseball players (outfielder for the Dodgers) and now the boyfriend of Rihanna. I am very proud. Well done, young man.

Flip it
Well dang, Eddie with the swoop.
Norm can not be trusted.
Sorry Sean, I have a nasty habit of that, just ask Norm.
Must be why you have all that camo on in the picture.
Dan, I concur.
I was deeply concerned when Petrino left what Tuberville would do, and I saw what he did when left to his own devices. It showed hideously poor judgment.
Offensive coordinators, in particular, have expiration dates, at least they do in my mind. Sadly, Al reached his at Auburn. The problem with hiring Franklin was the lack of commitment to the system. Either you're in or you're out. If you in the middle of the road, that's where the trucks run over dogs and armadillos. That's what happened to Tubs.
Is it 2:00 yet? Is Santa here yet? How much longer before we get there?I can't wait for the big announcement/change/update
I once saw an Armadillo get halfway across, it saw the SUV coming, SUV dodged but the Armadillo, he was dumb and tried to go back and ended up getting crushed anyway...That's what happened to Tub. Just to elaborate on Jet's analogy.
True Story.
That's right Sir Sean...I sneak in and nobody sees me coming.
Jet, that is very true. TF knew it when Tuberville wouldn't let him bring any coaches with him.
Dan, Nallsminger was also a mistake, although not that serious. I really didn't consider 2003 as the disaster than many thought of it as. Yes, the Georgia Tech game was a disaster, but the rest of the season was reasonable considering the level of competition.
Borges at Auburn in 2003 would have definitely changed things. I didn't see the logic in making Nall the OC.
By the way, I still believe Ensminger and Franklin weren't given a fair shack, although Franklin didn't help his case. Neither seemed to be given free rain to do as they saw fit.
The problem with the 2003 season is we were at the same talent level as many of those teams yet we were not competitive against them. Specifically referring to LSU, USC and UGA.
Not scoring a point on USC, and only 7 on UGA and LSU in 2003 with Campbell, Williams, Brown, Obomanu, Aromashodu and others wasn't "reasonable".
RK- Nailed it.
Borges in 2003 would have made use of Brandon Jacobs, beaten USC and G.Tech. Not saying we would go undefeated but would have started out higher ranked in 2004 and would have won NC then.
Ok - my chronometer says 2:00 CT, what's up ?
Too bad i'll miss the 2:00 festivities. As always, work calls me to head to the jobsite. Catch you guys and gals later.
See ya, Eddie.
Jay G. is rectangular
I am ready for the creepy video campfire.
Jay must be transmitting from space, hence the delay.
"JGT is rectangular."
now that's funny API.
Minor technological snag.
Be with you in a moment.
imma let u finish JG.....
The biggest issue in 2003 was QB. Brandon Jacobs wasn't really needed.
This gets back into the bad way we developed Jason Campbell. He played too early and when he did we didn't stay with him. A game against Syracuse and Dwight Freeney early in his career damaged his confidence and I think he really needed a coach like Borges to bring him along.
I do agree if Borges were hired in 2003 he and CTT would likely still be around now.
Borges got predictable... he might have been gone a year earlier if he had been around in '03.
Jacobs may not have been "needed", but what a waste. If he had been used in 2003 he would have stayed for 04 and we would have been dominate.
I'd still like the full story behind 'after 20 minutes I realized that Auburn needed a new offensive coordinator' press release. We didn't have a great year, but did anybody see that coming ?
michael, I am not sure you consider it Borges predictable as it was several other factors, mainly Knox and CTT Kodi love.
dan, there really weren't the carries to go around with Jacobs. Yes, he was a very good back, but when you are already riding in a Cadillac and a Hummer, jumping in another 4x4 isn't exactly required.
So if Carnell is the Cadillac and Ronnie is the Hummer, I guess that means Tre Smith is the '87 LeBaron?
Where we underutilized a back was with Stephen Davis. That guy really deserved more touches.
Your right Steve, too much talent is a bad thing, just look at USC.
Tre Smith is love and a Godly figure in Auburn history. Come in and spank Bama in the Iron Bowl will do that for you.
How much control did Borges have over his situation in his last year?
RK with the upper deck shot.
It was one of those where the left fielder doesn't move.
It was one of those where the pitcher doesn't bother to swing his head around, but just drops it in dismay.
It was one where the catcher
doesn't say a word, but reaches his right hand back to collect a new baseball from the umpire.
Very true, Dan. They did flop, but it isn't too much talent, but rather talent in the right places. That is what I like about Borges and Malzahn. They find ways to use their talent. Jacobs could have done himself a favor and taken the offer to play some tight end, but he wasn't a team player.
I may just be looking at the wrong angle, but Matt Kemp in that pic looks alot like Brian Jordan to me.
Would that make Chris Butler a Gremlin?
Don Timmons was a Yugo.
Having a Cadillac and a Hummer is great. Having a mucle car is nice to. You might not drive it a lot. But if you've got it you need to use it.
The bottom line here is that Tuberville likely wanted to be more involved in the offense than he should have. We did well, but things could have been better. Hindsight is 20/20.
Now is the time to look to the future. Chizik doesn't appear to be a control freak and I think he is the kind of head coach with the best chance of keeping someone like Malzahn around.
checkout Jay G behind the scenes!

We did use Jacobs, but not to the extent he would have liked. I do think he should have grabbed some playing time at tight end.
Is anyone keeping track of all the fines due to the ex-coach talk?
He's all like "click click click click click... enhance... click click click click"
Live Jay is now available!!!
Agreed Steve, if we get our wish list in recruiting it willbe similar to 03. Gus will make good use of everyone.
Jay, we are hearing you!!!
What would Marshall Thornton be?
