Talking more with: Demetruce McNeal
Hey everyone. I gave myself a short cooling-off period after being criticized for providing too much content, so I hope this post isn't arriving too quickly.
I wrote a story in today's editions about two of the Tigers' early commitments, Demetruce McNeal and LaDarius Owens, and how they helped get the ball rolling.
My conversation with McNeal traveled well beyond what you read in the story.
So here's some other stuff we discussed.
I wrote a story in today's editions about two of the Tigers' early commitments, Demetruce McNeal and LaDarius Owens, and how they helped get the ball rolling.
My conversation with McNeal traveled well beyond what you read in the story.
So here's some other stuff we discussed.
- On what drew him to Auburn: ``I committed to Auburn because they needed help at safety and that's what I want to play. They came to me a while back, said I was their guy and that's how it went down."
- On if it was tough to buy into what Auburn was selling: ``Not at all. I knew a lot of these coaches before now. Coach Trooper Taylor, I knew him going to back to Tennessee. I knew Thigpen when he was at North Carolina. When Auburn hired these coaches after the coaching change, I knew we were up the way up. I had no doubt about it. I saw the group of coaches they had and it was simple -- if they wanted me, I was there. And that's what happened."
- On his lack of high-school stats, which includes one career interception: ``I know! People won't throw at me. I had two passes thrown my way all year. They didn't catch either one, of course, but teams just don't throw much anymore. You see a lot of Wing-T in Atlanta. That makes me play up more, give that run support. Some (college) teams saw what I was doing and wanted me to play linebacker, but that's not me. I'm a safety. I want to have that chance to play pass defense. I want to be a complete safety."
- On if Daren Bates' development affected McNeal's decision: ``Yeah, I saw how they worked him and that was a good thing for me. They'll play the guy who shows he can play -- not who is older."
- On Auburn's overall recruiting effort: ``I've been shocked lately. They keep adding great players. We all know about Cameron Newton. He's the best quarterback out there as far as I know. When they got him, I think that really added a lot. I was like: Wow. Now we're picking up guys who are de-committing from other schools. They're all coming to Auburn."
- On which recruits he communicates with: ``I talk with (Antonio) Goodwin and (Jonathon) Mincy at least every week, I'd say. I know we're going after the DT from Warner Robins (Jeffrey Whitaker), but I haven't talked with him yet. We've been talking about giving him a call, seeing what's up. You'd be crazy not to take an Auburn offer right now."
- On any awkwardness involving his brother, DeMarco, not having an Auburn offer: ``Nah, he's got some really good offers. He had an Auburn offer back during the summer, but they pulled it back. He's looking at South Carolina and West Virginia right now. You never know who might pop up. I've been doing what I can to help him get some scholarships. He's a good player."

4th!
Yeah!!! New Thread smell. I like it.
Nice piece on McNeal. Keep the recruiting info coming. Enjoy it.
...and I don't really think he was criticizing you about the too much content thing. I may be wrong, but that's not what I took from it.
The goal here has nothing to do with people getting mad. I think al.com has the market cornered on goading.
What you took from Aero's comment isn't relevant to me.
complaints over too much content? wtf? that hottie needs to be drug out into the middle of the street & beaten. you can text me, twitter me, email me, or send me a carrier pigeon with new HABOTN content JG. keep it real homes.
I didn't figure it was, just sharing my thoughts as an outsider to the happenings.
Maybe we can build a Facebook group for the people who are interested in the minute stuff, too.
I think the market exists.
PF, you know I think you're a good dude. I just don't like to see infighting, goading, etc. It was a collaborative effort, I get that, but you gotta be the peacemaker sometimes.
Man, even Jay G is extra sensitive these days. Someone break out the beers and lets partay! Our f'n troubles are over!
Norm gets 1st with a "4th!"
Nooooo don't make me join facebook Jay
I think what sets us above al.com is that rather than have our disputes stay in the realm of "barners are stoopid" and "bammers are stoopid" is that there actually is a depth to the dislike some of the people have for each other around here. I like depth!
You guys are a bunch of idiots!
flkjaokfjoia joiaujfioajof!!!!!
Jay, you should set up a 1-800 number with a recording of the latest Auburn detailed report. I used to call wrestling hotlines when I was in 8th grade. Of course, I didn't have the internets then. But I'll bet there's still a market!
the depth of my idiocy is frightening MJT.
I can't be an idiot. I have a spelling bee trophy and a math bee trophy from the 4th grade
a lot of this is going over my head Jay have you not posted bc of what aero said or bc of other stuff I thought this was for the people who are interested in the minute stuff. Am I wrong or lost whats going on
Woohoo! Selective editing. I like it. Especially when it benefits me. Well, figuratively at least.
I came in second place in the spelling bee one year. I lost on the word "borometer". Even now, I am getting red squigglies because I don't know how to spell it. My opponent got "cactus." WHAT THE HELL?! HOW ARE "CACTUS AND "BOROMETER" IN THE SAME DIFFICULTY LEVEL?!
I also came in second in the geography bee. I don't remember what I missed in that one, but I did get an inflatable globe for coming in second, which was neat.
However you spell it, it's pronounced "thermometer". The more you know...
The Will Forte/Tenacious D spelling bee SNL sketch is really funny. At least where Forte spells the word wrong.
Is Eurasia on that globe?
MJT, Jay G says you need to get rid of your goads. (I think he may have a cold).
Wow, I get busy at work and can't get on the HABOTN as much as usual and apparently I miss out on a lot even when there isn't a lot going on.
Oops, my mistake. Those were PF's goads. I didn't even know he had a herd.
bigdaddy, I try to make this a reservoir of information. Some of it is newspaper-worthy. Some is too small for that scope.
Old-school HOTTIES know I don't deal well with complaining about content here. It's free. You have no financial obligation to this place. To complain about the free content distributed here is, to me, disrespectful and bogus to the nth degree.
I hold the HOTTIES to a high standard. With that said, 99% of them exceed that standard daily. A few don't.
I'll never be critical of too much content, the more we get here the better.
So ... with that explanation now a matter of record, and thereby old news, I propose a moratorium on that topic.
Demetruce McNeal: Good kid.
Also: Seastrunk to Baylor?
Ironic that he has a brother named DeMarco.
I've seen Lache to Baylor, Auburn, LSU and Oregon all in the last few hours. This kid is all over the board as far as what he may be telling people. I say Baylor myself. Makes sense with how things have gone over the last several weeks.
Seastunk = Baylor? That would be a catch for them.
If you were a betting man JGT, who would your hard earned duckets be on filling out the final 5 spots?
I'm really mad that I missed the conversation about cars. My top 3 favorite things to talk about are Auburn football, motocross, and motor carriages... motocross doesn't come up and cars are rare... I get plenty of Auburn football here.
For what its worth I own a Titan now, and won't buy another Jap truck again.
Oh and it turns out I'm not crazy... so you can all rest easy.
Good reporting Homer Tate. I enjoyed your article in the paper and even more so the added info of today.
We do have some different opinions on here and it does get out of hand at times but with our group they do seem to get over it and move on.
Maybe it does get too hot for this type of Blog and should be toned down.
You posting anymore of your Cam Newton interviews(highly interested)?
Good question, Logan.
I'd say: Byran Jones, Lemonier, Lattimore, Stone (just a hunch) and some low-key guy.
Stone? Yeah. I know that's a stretch, but Auburn gets the last visit. These coaches know how to create a production.
bharris, I'll post my full interview with Cecil Newton either this weekend or early next week.
That'll be it for Newtonocity ... until spring football.
JGT - may I have a pony?
I think now is a good time to let Harrison know that I don’t like him.
Wake,
When do I get to start replying to your comments "shutup, pig"?
Do you anticipate any of your friends giving you a hard time like that? One of my buddies is in LE, and the day he graduated all of his friends started replying in similar fashion.
Oh, and don't let them see you drinking. At all. He had to go through some intense alcohol counseling to get in because he was honest during his psych eval. They started watching his house, and two parties later, they labeled him an alcoholic.
Michael- if you don't like me so much please stop writing me letters about hanging out sometime
But Bammers ARE stoopid (and stupid)!!!
Jan Terri preaches love and tolerance toward all creatures -- both human and goblin.
OK no love letters between guys.
Goats eat love letters.
The preferred derogatory term is "loosers."
ie Those Bammers are a bunch of loosers.
Thanks. That is good original content. I don't understand the bashers. Most blogs copy topics and story lines from everyone else. That is what makes your blog so refreshing and me an avid reader. (Been reading since late '06)
good thing we're not loosers
Yeah I've got some friends that will definitely give me a hard time. I deserve it though, I had a friend who became and Auburn police officer while I was there, I ragged on him a good bit.
That could definitely suck, haven't heard of anything like that happening around here, but I'll definitely have to be careful.
Since I don't pay anything, I consider the value of content herein to be infinity.
So JGT....you got that going for you.
How about stoopid loosers? See, the Commish is compromisable.
I would say I get my money's worth out of this place. I did notice the price had gone up on my bill lately.
You guys all get bills from Michael's address too right?
I didn't realize when I signed up Deputy Junior this AM that he would be so apropos.
Maybe that means I'll someday be able to afford a bad-ass Inifini.
I used to drive a G20.
Kinda wish they still made 'em.
Wait, you guys aren't paying anything for this? Michael said it was $10 per post ($15 on weekend).
Harrison, I write you those letters just to practice on my cursive. Don’t take them so seriously.
Look, I’m sorry, Jay G is right. Jan Terri would sit on me if she knew how I was acting. I love you guys!
ehyou, Just goes to prove that there are some good thinga that are truely free.
G20's were pretty cool, I really like the J30's they were like a 4 door 300ZX
So you think Whiticker goes the 'Dogs way? I was hoping we could land him with Jones.
But if we get the ones on your list that still makes for a strong, strong, STRONG class.
Jay- how about an interviews with Jan Terri and ask her about the BC coaching situation, coach Tubs recruiting and Cam Newton and other hot HABOTN topics
Jay G,
Why would you want to drive a G20 now? The G's have gone from 140 bhp in the G20 to around 300 in the G37. I'd say they've improved the line.
A badass Infiniti would outclass all the other drones in Sector 7-G.
Excellent, JGT!!! Thanks.
I've been connected to internet at 9.4kb/s for the past 2 hours. Not only has massive work piled up, but (and more importantly)I could not HABOTN :-(
Jay G, your content would be a lot better if you did have an occasional Jan Terri interview. The guys who pay me to read your blog want to get their money's worth out of this thing.
They aren't really in the same segment anymore PF. The G20 was kinda an upscale tuner car, while the G35/G37 is a luxo sport sedan/coupe
Granted I'd take the G37 over it in a heartbeat.
Downfall, schmownfall.
30 years, and you've done nothin', Norm. Nothin'!
You coulda paid off a house in that time.
WTC could have bought a reupholstered sofa for every man, woman and child in Bolivia. He'd be the Simon Bolivar of living room furniture.
Michael could have stolen every goat in Wisconsin and cornered the feta cheese market six times over.
Bring it on.
My wife really wants a g35 or g37. Guess what?
She ain't getting one
True.
Rented a G37S Sedan recently, and I was very impressed. Very similar in feel to the J30 that was mentioned from back in the day.
The G35's are so last decade, Harrison. You should get her one.
Had business in the Gump today and finally went to Hamburger King.
A light came from the heavens.
The choir reached a fever pitch.
Rev. Cleophus shouted "Have you seen the light?"
Yes, yes I have...and it's called a cheeseburger deluxe all the way.
Was Michael in the goat business 30 years ago? If so, color me very, very impressed.
I rented a G37 for a California business trip and drove it threw wine country. Sweet ride. Still don't know why I left.
We're gonna talk about Burgers and sports sedans? This is the best day ever. (minus that pesky 4 hour psych exam... that sucked)
The G37 is the best sedan ever built in Japan IMNSHO
Alright, I'm out until Friday. Don't talk bad about me in public.
Nope PF. I bought a few "nice" cars when i was single. Cars are just thrown away money. I now drive an Accord with over 100,000 miles and don't care
threw = through
(I = stoopid looser).
I need to make a trip to monkey town just for that Hamburger King place.
good thing HABOTN is a private blog
JayGT: Regarding Auburn/UAT battling over Stone and Coleman. I know both of these guys are highly coveted, which alone is sufficient reason for their pursuit, but is the subtext a grudge match by Saban to "prove" (to the REC) that he can still "dominate" AU when he wants? And perhaps Chizik & Co. wanting to make a statement that those days are over?
Jet - I told you I was a patient man. Part of the plan is working in that you've been lulled into a false sense of security.
Hamburger King is the best. There is no debate.
Jay
sorry it took so long to post back had to do some work. I love the blog and the more info the better I also love that it is free (I don't like to spend money)
On the other hand I know you have a family and have other things to do then post on here all day and night.
But I will say thank you for the work. Also to the other people that bring a lot to the table when your gone.
I love this place and love Auburn
Oh, and what's the fastest animal in the world?
Cheetah.
Next?
I agree with bigdaddy. That doesn't happen as often as it used to.
perregrine falcon
PF - Yes, I’ve been in the goat business for about 30 years. Started in 1986.
the answer to the question is McCalebb
Michael, you're an idiot! Everyone knows that's only 27 years.
Scott C, curse you and your chocolate covered math!
michael do you have a talking goat
Lotta time warping going on in here.
So, do you like gladiator movies, Joey?
MJT, please, allow me...
CURSE YOU SCOTT THE CHOCOLATEER!
I think the message is much more appropriate coming from Dr. Doofenshmirtz.
Jay I enjoy your content and hope you keep posting.
What's your vector Victor?
bigdaddy, I'm not with the goats enough to give a definitive answer, since they are currently in Idaho, but in my experience they haven't really talked a whole lot.
Don't ever ask me about my business.
Stu
time for a new picture I am tired of looking at that big ol'head
HABOTN thread with anything related to Auburn does not = too much content.
Creating a HABOTN thread by pasting the full text of the Senate's proposed health care legislation... perhaps = too much content.
Oh wow. yeah, moratorium is a fine thing, JayG.. sure after you've taken your shots at me.
I may be wrong, but these are "comments". If you don't like anything critical, just rename them "praises".
Now you can announce the moratorium, or delete my post, or whatever you like to do in situations like this.
So? How 'bout this weather lately?
Oh crap, aero is back! Everyone act normal!
So... how about that Auburn football?
ehyou ... you were in my neighborhood and didn't call. You went to the King and didn't let me know.
I am ... sad.
But I am glad that you visited the King and have come to know what we already know. The King reigneth forever.
Just keep talkin', Aero.
uhhh I think we cruitn real good and our players are gettin gooder. That coarch sure is sumthin
i have worked in Montgomery for 4 years now and still haven't been to the King. Disappointing
Harrison, I respectfully disagree.
Wait. Didn't Aero quit this blog months ago anyway?
what do you know michael!! huh!! what do you know??
Nothin' that's what
I know a lot of things. I know how to spell "cactus" for one!
Can you ban someone from getting on here
just asking
Tim got banned.
I would like to ban Michael and his goats
Yeah, I second that ban.
I'm stayin out of it.
I've already been in too many tiffs on here.
Breaking News:
Livestock.com is reporting that all of Michael's goats have de-comitted and are now headed to Boise St to become the mascot. BSU will ditch the Bronco mascot and become the "Cabrito Herd".
The goats also negotiated a heated stable as a part of the move. Fresno St. has already reported this to the NCAA as a violation.
Don't know the validity of this report. Does anyone dare to ask MJT?
i know at least one goat that ain't going. but i don't know anything about that one particular goat
I have been chosen as "the most likely to go skydiving over shark infested waters"
I feel that is a lofty achievement.
I don't know. The next quarterly report on my goats isn't out until August. I know, I know, it doesn't make sense to me either. That's goat math for ya. Not nearly as good as chocolate math.
Whoever ends up with my goats is gonna have a handfull, I tell ya that though.
Never ask me about my business.
I don't talk about michael's bidness
But hope I am here when his goats get Bandammered.
Wake ...So that was the results of the 4 hr psych test?
Lol no that was the result of facebook. I'm sure I'll never really know what the psych test says, I'll just find out if I get a call moving me on to the next step of the process or not. I can't imagine I didn't pass.
jetticator...
Have patience and take comfort.
"Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all good things are come upon you..."
si.com says Seastrunk will go to Oregon... so I am officially ruling Oregon out.
Harrison get there at 11 or at 1:30 ... unless you've got some time to kill.
They said Lache was deciding today at 4 something.....from what time zone.....left coast ???
Where's FSJ? I need to know what an ipad is.
If he is going to Qregon it will be left coast time.
i believe the ipad is made by Depends.
Harrison you definitely need to make the trip to S. Union to see The King.
ehyou it is the new electronic tablet from Apple. Faker probably already has one. It's been out 4 hours.
MJT,
I like your initials. They used to be mine!
JTW
digger...
you are the hippest old dude I know
SI says Seastrunk was a USC lock... when was he a USC lock?
Seastrunk picks Auburn!
...PSYCHE!
Jay-
Quick question. Every time you update the blog, do you send out a Twitter notification too? Trying to cut down on the number of times a day that I check the site via interweb, and instead can check twitter on my phone. Just curious from a "self preservation, yet always wanting to check out new content" sort of way.
Norm and Jet..that's a long ride from our offices on the East Side. Plus i'd have to talk my lunch buddies into it. I want to go though
Harrison: If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
Q: A commitment, a commitment, what is it?????
A: It's a necessary stay in a psych ward, but that's not important right now.
Why don't one of you guys that just eat lunch all day for a living bring me a King burger?
Harrison - quit your whining. I've driven from north of Atlanta (north by about 30 minutes on a good day) a number of times just to meet some folks at The Hamburger King.
BTW, I think I recall what it is you do, and I bet you benefit from my employer.
quack quack
you gonna name drop your employer?
Afternoon Hotties!
I miss anything today?
...other than the first half of puppet hour.
Lache's a duck
And I'm a goose.
McKesson, that's just for you. Don't tell anyone else.
We don't use McKesson, but I fill in at an independent store in Tuskegee that does.
Mckesson... isn't that the name of that whorehouse in Atlanta? What's going on here?
MJT you weren't supposed to read that. That was just between Harrison and I (or 'me', whichever is proper).
Seastrunk to Oregon. Done deal.
Good for him. Hope he finds what he seeks in Ducktown.
Norm, whenever you can't tell if it is "I" or "me", then just talk in the third person and say "Norm". You then sound important and at the same time are grammatically correct.
Oregon does have some crazy hot cheerleaders.
Well, at least that's over. Wish the kid luck at Oregon.
I think he seeks pirate treasure. Good luck with that in Oregon, Lache!
MJT, thanks. Just another reason Norm loves him some HABOTN, it's educational. And as we all know, "knowledge is power!"
Time for Norm to take it to the house. You kids play nicely with each other.
What weight class will he fight in at Oregon?
Ok. Norm, next time I work in Tuskegee, put a King burger in a tote and ship it to me. Wait, send 3 for my helpers too.
Thanks
Just for knowledge sake, there's a new place in Vinings (for the folks that gto or are around Atlanta) called The Burger Club. They serve the 8 pound burgersaurus. supposedly it serves 8.
Glad to finally get to read some of the blog after actually having to work... AGAIN. Working is really getting in the way of my HABOTN time.
