ESPN now is reporting that Lane Kiffin, the affable Tennessee coach, has agreed to a deal with Southern Cal. So he'd be gonzo from Rocky Top.
How bummed are Tennessee fans?
I don't expect you to be sympathetic. Auburn fans and (our few resident) Alabama sympathists have this in common: Feeling at least moderate disdain toward UT.
Next coach at UT? Thoughts?
Hahaha! Feel bad for UT players and fans. But HAHAHAHA!!
ReplyDeleteFirst!
ReplyDeletefunny
ReplyDeleteMaybe not.
ReplyDeleteYeah. You know that has to suck for people at Tennessee.
ReplyDeleteShesaid ... from out of nowhere.
ReplyDeleteFirst official FIRST for shesaid! Mark it down!
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy. Don't most people think USCw is about to get hammered by the NCAA?
ReplyDeleteLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry Jay...didn't know you were working on a post. Didn't mean to get in your way.
ReplyDeleteJust got up off the couch to check to see if Kiffikins was indeed a goner and where's the first place I check? HABOTN.
ReplyDeleteTime to bring back Phil!
ReplyDeleted@mn...that's a new Rocky LOW blow there!!! hahaha
ReplyDeleteOK, I've been out of it for a while. What happened to Pete Carroll?
ReplyDeleteLayla, I'm beggin', darling, please.
ReplyDeleteFSJ: No problem. You did nothing wrong.
ReplyDeleteI just returned home from a PTA meeting to find that nugget waiting on me. Serendipity rules.
Well...Fulmer is still available.
ReplyDeleteTuberville should have waited a week.
This has got to be a joke, right?
ReplyDeleteTuberville doesn't want that UT pressure. NO WAY.
ReplyDeleteAs you can imagine.... Volchat is in a meltdown.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't happen to a better group of folks.
Seen at the O'Connell Center just moments prior to the UK-Fla game ... that I'll be watching.
ReplyDeleteLOW BLOW FROM SHADY FLA FANS
Okay Jay, you did it. You topped the Tuberville/Troy story. This one is hilarious. I do feel for the Rocky Top people, but I do believe they will be better off without Kiffikin. The guy just doesn't have the qualities I like in a coach. He may grow into it.
ReplyDeleteLOL- Lane Kiffin....I knew It, I knew It, I knew It. When Jack Del Rio turned them down, it had to be Lane train next.
ReplyDeleteshesaid rejects dan dan!!! So close!!!
ReplyDeleteJay,
ReplyDeleteUT HAS to make a huge hire now...right?
Serious candidates include..Butch Davis, Skip Holtz, and Jim Harbaugh. Candidate Turfman is most concerned about Trooper Taylor. Lets hope UT is not willing to take that chance.
ReplyDelete"Only" 2,500 fans on Volquest.com right now.
ReplyDeleteBTW....Lance Thompson..you chose unwisely.
ReplyDeleteTrooper Taylor? For which job?
ReplyDeleteHe's not a Tennessee graduate!
UT fans on my website are absolutely imploding.
ReplyDeleteThey defended Kiffin and his big mouth no matter what and he just Bobby Petrino'd them.
His only endearing quality was recruiting and Tennessee doesn't have a coach less then 3 weeks before signing day. Remember the press that Kiffin got for contacting Florida recruits right after Urban said he needs a break...wow.
I can't wait for sports radio tomorrow.
FSJ- In a stunning turn of events, Tennessee has hired back Phillip Fulmer.
ReplyDeleteTurf...lets hope that UT is willing to take the Trooper chance..
ReplyDeleteThey will suck for years.
NCAA probe of USC complete
ReplyDeleteBy Charles Robinson and Jason Cole, Yahoo! Sports
Jan 11, 4:54 pm EST
After almost four years of investigation, the NCAA’s probe into the University of Southern California athletic program has reached a conclusion. Sources familiar with the investigation have told Yahoo! Sports that the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions will meet Feb. 19-21 to address what investigators uncovered at USC. According to typical NCAA procedures, if sanctions are necessary, they will be determined and then made public via a news conference within six to eight weeks of the February hearing.
WOW, recruiting is going to get interesting. UT has several bigtime recruits that were there only because of Monte Kiffin, according to their quotes. Look for some of them to defect.
ReplyDeleteBill Curry is available.
ReplyDeleteTrooper is good at what he does, but is no HC.
ReplyDeleteThis couldn't happen to two nicer schools. UT scorned and USCw gets a joke.
ReplyDeletewtc,
ReplyDeleteTalk to your mom to see if there are any recruits that AU and Bama can steal...
I wouldn't think that UT would go after Troop. Yes, he is an up and comer, but UT has the bucks to get a coach that was at least a high profile coordinator.
ReplyDeleteButch and Skip are good ideas. Harbaugh is not ... he looks like he'd leave you in a second.
ReplyDeleteLosing Trooper would KILL our recruiting class and I think he's likely to be successful as an HC but lets hope the PTB at UT see it your way FSJ.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to be the first to say that Saban made Kiffen's arse quit...
ReplyDeleteJust kidding.
If they went after Trooper, it would be the recruiting coordinator job. Kiffin, his dad and Orgeron are leaving.
ReplyDeleteUT is not going after Troop. Give that a rest.
ReplyDeleteUT will be going after John Gruden. I put money on that. Will they land him?
Jon Gruden to the white courtesy phone....Jon Gruden to the white courtesy phone.
ReplyDeleteTurfman ...
ReplyDeleteI love me some Troop but he's about as ready to be head coach at UT as I am.
Is Kiffin the biggest scam artist to pass through since Francione(?)?
ReplyDeleteTrooper isn't even the best recruiter on Auburn's staff.
ReplyDeleteAuburn's current recruiting class would, in my opinion, be unaffected by Taylor's departure.
ReplyDeleteTurfman...Kiffin and Frauchione are similar.
ReplyDeleteWhat a poor hire for USC, IMO.
Thigpen is the best recruiter and I'd say Grimes is No. 2 ... if you're not counting the head coach. So that could be three guys before we even get to Taylor.
ReplyDeleteLet's see.....Sunny Southern California or Knoxville, Tennessee. SOLD!!
ReplyDeleteNo Gruden has already said he will sit out a year and return to the NFL. I doubt he goes to UT..I think Butch Davis might jump this time. How long can everyone pretend that Chris Peterson is not killing at BSU?
ReplyDeleteFSJ-In a word,she said YES.
ReplyDeleteTrouble is, both have an almost full class.
UA lost a lineman, Juwan James, to UT. Blake Sims is visiting this weekend i think. He droppes UA last Thursday.
AU could go after Corey Miller. He is close to Lattimore and Mack, both seem to headed to AU.
See, I think Kiffin is an excellent coach. I'd hire him ... and I wouldn't say that about many people.
ReplyDeleteWith that said, Trooper waves a mean towel.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Un.Be.Lievable. A pric until the very end. At least he was consistent.
ReplyDeleteTrooper is good, Thigpen is better at recruiting. Best on staff from what I hear.
ReplyDeleteTom Dienhart of Yahoo Sports:
ReplyDelete"Air Force’s Troy Calhoun may be a top target to replace Kiffin."
Huh?
This is what happens when you hire dirt bags, Kiffin is a dirtbag, Petrino is a dirtbag and Saban is a dirtbag... this is the first of the 3.
ReplyDeleteIt may be that Kiffikin knows sanctions are coming against USCw, but is willing to work through them, but man. That is one dirty way to treat UT. They are one of the most well funded athletic departments in the country.
ReplyDeleteI do consider Kiffikin doing this to be highly unethical. When a coach signs with a university there is an assumption on both sides that he will be there at least several seasons. Tennesse should really say good ridence. I wouldn't want the guy either.
This is worse than Coach Fraud who convinced kids to come to the evil empire while probation was looming and then left them.
You think Jay?
ReplyDeleteHe did a great job with Crompton..but they had some WTH games this year.
I like Calhoun a lot, too.
ReplyDeleteWhen Auburn was "searching" after the 2008 season, a guy I really respect told me Calhoun was the guy to get.
This guy is a former NFL coordinator.
Dang...late on my post. JG already stated that.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with JG about Kiffin.
Yeah FSJ, I can think of one particular WTH game for UT this season.
ReplyDeleteAuburn had some WTH games this year, too. It's all part of learning your kids, what they do well, how to adjust in what was (for the Kiffins) a new kind of football.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Tennessee needs to make any calls where they're not going to get serious consideration. I know Gruden spent a year or two there as a GA, but I sense he's a pro guy.
ReplyDeleteSkip Holtz makes sense to me. So does Butch. Three weeks before signing day, I'm not sure Gruden can put it together.
Jay, Kiffikin's mouth makes him a turn off as a head coach because his comments don't benefit the program. Pissing off people like Urban Meyer is a bad idea.
ReplyDeleteGreat hire for USCw! They are going to need a man who will laugh in the face of NCAA sanctions!
ReplyDeleteJay G..Who do you think will have more career success, Kiffin or Chizik?
ReplyDeleteDoesn't Air Force run the same Jet/Sky offense that Georgia Tech runs? I can't imagine that at UT, but I could be wrong.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you BigCat!
ReplyDeleteTurfman...I'll go with Kiffin because the Pac Ten is not the SEC.
ReplyDeleteTurf, I'd have laughed at that question a year ago.
ReplyDeleteI don't have an answer now. Chizik and his guys exceeded my expectations in 2009 ...
Can't wait to see what Spurrier and Meyer have to say.
ReplyDeleteI was suprised at Kiffin's success at UT. I always thought him and his staff were clowns(other than Monty). Obviously alot of solid recruits disagreed.
ReplyDeleteWell maybe they go after Muschamp.. He could trade one UT for another..
ReplyDeleteTwo words. One name. The man, the myth, the legend. Tony Franklin.
ReplyDeleteJust talked to a former boss of mine who is a USC doner.
ReplyDeleteHe always talked spitefully of Kiffin's previous time at USC and that was the general consensus amongst most USC fans. Now this.
He says this is USC's loss and Tennessee's gain.
Crazy Ed is a good D line coach and recruiter.
ReplyDeleteThompson isn't a great coach.
I never thought that Gran fit in there. He's too classy.
I hear Mike Slive is throwing a party tonight....
ReplyDeleteUK-FLA on ESPN.
ReplyDeleteok shesaid..that made me laugh
ReplyDeleteUK player Cousins is from Alabama.
ReplyDeleteI know we're suppose to have a shared disdain with Bama for UT, and I did growing up, but man, feel bad for all my UT friends right now.
ReplyDeleteIs Tubs kicking himself right now???
ReplyDeletewtc...can you really blame Cousins for leaving the state to play for Kentucky?
ReplyDeleteBEASLEY!!!
ReplyDeleteTurf, I would still call Chizik a wait and see. He has done an excellent job so far in terms of decision making and putting together a cohesive staff. It isn't until you get to 4 or 5 years down the road that you get an idea if a coach can maintain a program. The new wears off and fans can become bored.
ReplyDeleteThey were talking about Kiffin on ESPN earlier but sort of said naw. Now it is official? that breaks my heart he he he.
ReplyDeleteIs this Kentucky's first true road game?
ReplyDeleteIf so, it'll be interesting to see how they respond tonight.
You have to read the headlines of the threads on Vol Quest. It is hilarious.
ReplyDeletehttp://tennessee.rivals.com/forum.asp?fid=2251
who says Tubs has to stay in Lubbock?
ReplyDeleteI don't imagine UT would be interested, though.
Spurrier was talked about as a candidate for UT when they got Kiffikin, but I don't think he is looking to get thrown into a hotbed like that.
ReplyDeleteThis is funnier than American Idol.
ReplyDeleteI think UT would be a very good fit for Tuberville, but somehow I don't think he would want to deal with the pressure there.
ReplyDeleteI agree PF. This is great comedy.
ReplyDelete11,300 fans online at Volquest paid message board.
ReplyDeleteWTC- Just imagine all the vol fans that won't find out till in the morning.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to watch the local news tonight here in the Noog.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you folks don't appreciate Idol. These first few episodes where they bring in the new folks are great.
ReplyDeleteAt one point I wondered why some of these people's friends didn't tell them they can't sing. Then I realized it must be a practical joke.
Hey guys, lets convince Billy Bob he can sing and send up to Idol. Now that's entertainment.
WTF?!
ReplyDeleteI go away to eat dinner and come back to this?! WTH?!
What the heck is SC thinking?
wtc: It went from 2,500 to 11,500 in less than 30 minutes!
ReplyDeleteE-Bro: Yes.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Volquest UT already has someone ready to go. Screams Cutcliff
ReplyDeleteSC is thinking that Kiffin is the man to guide the program through probation
ReplyDeleteKirby Smart to UT? It is a move up. WOuld Saban endorse that.
ReplyDeleteJay, I can't wait to see your next surprise post. Do you think you can top this one?
ReplyDeleteCutcliffe? Get real.
ReplyDeleteGus for UT HC... :-P
ReplyDeleteAt one point I read something about Cutcliff possibly heading back when Kiffikin was hired, but I assumed that UT wouldn't hire a coach Ole Miss fired.
ReplyDeleteFSJ, hush. Sometimes your ideas are too good.
ReplyDeleteTommy Bowden!
ReplyDeletethe biggest loser in all this is US. We don't get to see sexy Layla Kiffin in skimpy orange dresses. How can a douche like that score a babe like that. $$$
ReplyDeleteUT Coach- Try for Gruden, then if that fails, they will go anti-Kiffin to some degree, which would be....hmmm
ReplyDeleteRon "GOATEE" Prince!!!
ReplyDeleteDoes Mike Hamilton still have a job?
ReplyDeleteFSJ-You know you are thinking that Smart's name may come up. Seriously though, would Saban suggest he take it. it is not a lateral move.
ReplyDeleteI read where Terry Bowden is a candidate at USF. Does UT like their tots?
ReplyDeleteSupposedly UT is having a news conference in ten minutes.
ReplyDeleteAlmost 14k on VolQuest.
ReplyDeleteThe funniest name I saw on the Vol board was Leach.
ReplyDeleteI think UT goes for an established HC.
ReplyDeleteIf they go the assistant route Muschamp, Smart, and several others would be in the mix.
I'm with Craig re: Layla.
ReplyDeleteWe all lose.
Ok...I think the Vols make a serious run at Will Muschamp. I could be wrong, but racking my brain, it makes sense.
ReplyDeleteThe Vol boards are all over Hamilton. Apparently Kiffin's buyout isn't too much.
ReplyDeleteUrban is grinning on ESPN at the Florida-UK game.
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone has pointed out the best part of the whole Lane Kiffin coaching saga....
ReplyDeleteAl Davis was right.
sidenote:
lol @ Urban Meyer laughing on tv during the Kentucky vs. Florida game.
Urban is having a laugh on ESPN right now.
ReplyDeleteWhat a smile he just flashed across the screen. Like Xmas morning for him.
I agree Eddie..if they go the assistant route.
ReplyDeleteBTW, do Lane and Layla rename their child (Knox)?
I can see the headlines: "UT hires Texas Tech Reject". Not going to happen. Leach has likely gotten himself black listed for his behavior.
ReplyDeleteOK, so everybody's watching Kentucky-Florida.
ReplyDeleteGood deal.
1st time I've been on the computer in a couple of hours and the 1st thing I see is Kiffin to USCw. Holly crap what are they thinking?
ReplyDeletePat Summitt for head coach.
ReplyDeleteI'm watching ESPN news in case they cover the UT press conference.
ReplyDeleteESPN crawl says some dude named Kippy will be the interim coach.
ReplyDeleteFaker...let us know if they show the news conference, will you pleaes?
ReplyDeleteWow, so any predictions for their recruiting class? They just had 10 EE...I wonder if they want out?
ReplyDeleteIt was creepy seeing Urban and his wife texting away.
ReplyDeleteOh man, Summit could coach the water polo team and get them to the Big Dance. So could Nell Fortner though. Just sayin.
ReplyDeleteNo way they have a presser @ 925 or later.
ReplyDeleteWhat about the full Monty as head coach?
ReplyDeletefor the league this is like Bammer losing Mike Shula. Guy's a clown but at least he's entertaining.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if it's me, I would personally try everything to hire Chris Petersen from Boise State.
ReplyDeleteLOL...Roy Adams (Tennstud) is advocating hiring Ed. Orgeron to replace Kiffin..
ReplyDeleteKippy is the WR coach they just hired I think.
anyone got a free link message board for UT. I need someone else to harass tnight.
ReplyDeleteKiffin is the new Mike Shula.
ReplyDeleteEddie, Peterson would be a brilliant hire. Let's hope they don't think about it.
ReplyDeleteHow about Saban? He doesn't have a buyout.
Shesaid: Nell basically has a water polo team right now, so we'll see if you're right.
ReplyDeleteover 20k on VolQuest!
ReplyDeleteDan Mullen anybody?
ReplyDeleteI was not unimpressed by Pat Fitzgerald, save one decision at the end of a game.
ReplyDeleteESPN News is going to cover it in a few mins.
ReplyDeleteBro- You could be on to something...really good fit if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteESPN News just got a quote from Mullen.
ReplyDeletei'm headed out back to start digging the bunker. i already bought enough spam and ritz crackers and rice to last a few years. i'm not feeling to well, but i think it is just the flying monkey trying emerge from my rear end.
ReplyDeletewhat's next? are curry and $aban gonna trade places?
Mullen would be a very good choice too. The MSU offense looked much improved.
ReplyDeleteSteve...
ReplyDeleteSaban could win a NC at a third school.
That would be something.
I don't understand the move. He is at a top 6 SEC program. Now he is going to a sinking ship. USC will be on major probation soon.
ReplyDeleteFSJ- Did he say the only way he was leaving Starkville was in a pine box?
ReplyDeleteRon Zook to Tennessee!!!
ReplyDeleteNo..he talked about it being a good hire for USC.
ReplyDeleteWell....I promised my daughter I would watch a movie with her, time to honor my word. Can't wait till in the morning.
ReplyDeletePersonally, if I were and AD I wouldn't want to hire a coach that was willing to leave a comparable job after only being there one season.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty shocked, but maybe probation does figure into the equation.
I wish I still worked in Murfreesboro. I can imagine that the talk at the watercooler will be priceless.
ReplyDeleteAnyway Houston Nutt can wiggle his way into the discussion for UT?
ReplyDeleteLOL..
Petrino?
ReplyDeleteWish I still lived in Nashville.
ReplyDeleteEddie...tell Emma Uncle Michael loves her.
ReplyDeleteHouston Nutt would be interesting, but I think he doesn't have the wow factor UT will go for.
ReplyDeleteLane is taking Monte and Orgeron with him.
ReplyDeleteif the ncaa hammer is coming, why not hire a clown like kiffen you can get rid of easily in four years after the worst is over? it worked out well for bammer. shula was much easier to get rid of than croom would have been. you let kiffen bear the brunt of the blame for any decline and then hire the big name to take over after you recover. i'm sure $aban and carroll had some interesting chats together on the espn shoot this summer.
ReplyDeletePetrino would be very interesting and he would have the wow factor.
ReplyDeleteJim Leavitt....AAAGGHHHGGGHGHGHGHGHH!!!!
ReplyDeleteBOOM! TO TN!
ReplyDeleteSchlabach said that the first call will go to Muschamp.
ReplyDeleteFollow the Auburn plan? Should they get Rhoads from Iowa State? Bet he'd love to be there coach.
ReplyDeleteI was kidding about Petrino. No way TN hires someone who has that little loyalty after getting shafted like this.
ReplyDeleteJay,
ReplyDeleteIs Kiffin supposed to have a press conference tonight and if so, you have any idea where we can see it?
If something happens, Bellefay, it'll be on ESPNews.
ReplyDeleteTerry Bowden is right there in Huntsville. I think you gotta find a coach with the WOW factor of LAYLA. ahhh memories. Jay G can we get a "thanks for the memories Layla Kiffin post?
ReplyDeleteESPN News said when it started that they would go to it but they haven't gone there yet.
ReplyDeleteThere is a loser with socks that thinks Patterson is a LOCK!!
ReplyDeleteIf I were a UT fan, I would go after Chris Peterson. Boise State is very impressive. With UT talent, he would do very well.
ReplyDeleteI have a business plan due tomorrow for 2010 and the wife just yelled downstairs.
ReplyDeleteI guess it will be a long evening.
UT is holding a newsconference right now. ESPN NEWs doesn't have the video yet
Now they are saying they will play the video from it..
ReplyDeletei'm hoping layla will get her own reality series back in la. one that is clothing optional. how about a 24 hour loop of her doing jumping jacks on the beach?
ReplyDeleteT. Bowden is in Florence, not Huntsville.
ReplyDeleteI was really looking forward to watching Kentucky-Florida tonight and now Lane has sort of ruined that for me. I can't focus.
ReplyDeleteDamn you Kiffin.
Wow...I just wanted to watch the Conan/Leno implosions tonight.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kiffin.
Why didn't we hear a USCw asking for permission to talk to Kiffikin message? I would have thought we would hear that. UT would put it out so the fans wouldn't have such a bowel movement when this happened.
ReplyDeleteI bet Mark Maguire sleeps a little better tonight
ReplyDeleteHuntsville/Florence no difference, its all basically southern tennessee to me being in Mobile. I think Playboy should do a special issue "coaches wives of the SEC/Pac 10/ Big 12 but leave out the old ugly dames
ReplyDeleteShelley Smith?
ReplyDeleteReally?
She's reporting that Norm Chow is going back to USC too.
Norm Chow back to USC with Kiffin.....I say Eddie Gran to TTU
ReplyDeleteESPN news talking about it. A deal is being finalized to bring Norm Chow back to USCw. Ed Oregeron and the fully Monty going also.
ReplyDeleteAnybody have AU/UK hoops tickets for sale? I'm lookin'
ReplyDeleteI thought Gran already told Tommy 'no'?
ReplyDeleteNot for UK fans!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to watch the news conference.
ReplyDelete
