Furlough Advisory Has been lifted

Hey everyone. My week in professional purgatory has ended, which means the HABOTN is back in business.

I know you're excited. Please save your applause until the end.

So what did I miss?

**Charles Goldberg was the first to snag information about the huge raises given to Gene Chizik and his staff. I have an opinion about that and I'd like to share it in time.

**The Auburn men beat Arkansas last night after some road struggles.

**The Auburn women can't stop losing.

**Men's swimming and diving won another SEC championship on Saturday. The women finished third, which is their worst finish in a long time.

Sunday mornings are booked here at the Tate household. We'll jump back on this afternoon and get this place back where it belongs. I am truly sorry that the HABOTN went dormant for a week. The only way we can maintain our heat is to keep the information flowing 24/7, which obviously didn't happen last week.

It was out of my hands. I'm working on a permanent solution.

See you a little later.

Nicely done, Wake.

Thank Jay, Glad to have you back, hope you managed to enjoy your week away from work, even if it was forced and I'm sure stressful.

I don't know if you plan on going back to read the older posts, but I don't recommend it. It was light on substance and heavy on hooliganery.

I was a little lax last week on HABOTN myself. Offered no substance to speak of....

Glad your back in the saddle JGT.

Uh oh... in that case Jay you better just stay here.

9:41 AM
Blogger Loganville Tiger said...

I wish I followed soccer Jay - but I just don't get it.

This is a dark time for me between football season and baseball starting up. I need something to fill the void as basketball does absolutely nothing for me.

9:41 AM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

Loganville, I can offer nothing aside from spring football, football recruiting, reviewing the 2009 football season and, well, anything to do with football.

9:48 AM
Blogger Loganville Tiger said...

But you could add a little football coverage too JGT? That seems to be sorely missing... :-)

I'll just live in my own private hell for the next few weeks.. :-(

Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

I'm with you Loganville, I like college basketball, and enjoy watching the occasional game, but just can't follow it till the conf tournies start up. I can't wait for spring training. I'm down here in fl so there are plenty of games to be had during that time.

MX fills the void for me... but I can't talk about it with the common folks so that removes some of the fun.

Here is a story for ya' Jay, drive over to Atlanta and do an in depth story on the motorcross race being held at the dome.

Now that's one I bet you haven't thought of covering.....

Maybe even get some pho'togs of you taking a spin around the track clearing a few double jumps while wearing your HABOTN riding gear...

9:55 AM
Blogger Loganville Tiger said...

WOW Wake - i made my post before I read your comment - so your a dirt biker too? COOOOLLLL

9:56 AM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

JGT, if you could somehow get the advertiser to pay your way in I highly recommend you follow Loganville's advice. The SX races (indoor motocross) are alot of fun even for people who have no ties to the sport, and it could be a good story. They work really hard to make it a good show.

If I was going to that race this year I'd buy your way in. If you want to drive to Daytona I'll be there.

Loganville, yep I ride, I am about to watch the Indy race so no spoilers if you have watched that. It's been a great season so far.

You ever made it up to GA to ride Wake? We have some excellent riding resorts in Durhamtown Plantation to the east of me and Highland Park to the west. Each has 1000+ acres of riding opportunities with everything from motocross tracks (Durhamtown has 6 I think) to tight single track through the woods. I would recommend both. Do a Google on them if you have not heard of them before. If you're ever up this way, give me a shout and I would be happy to show you around 0 that is if you don't mind riding with an old slow poke......

I gotta have a reason to go over to ATL. Are kids from Montgomery involved?

10:09 AM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

I love Durhamtown, and am dying to make it to Highland Park.

I should be racing a Hare Scramble at Gatorback today. I am not happy to be missing it. Its a major bright spot every year. It incorporates the track where so many legends rode.

Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

We will have Chizik substance tomorrow afternoon.

We will have Football Newcomer Substance® later in the week.

10:12 AM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

JGT, there are no big racers from the area that I am aware of. I will look into it.

If you were able to do a story on Montgomery riders it would probably be small time guys who were fighting to make it into the night show by running int the daytime qualifying.

It would actually make for a great story that I could link on some of the mx sites. Those guys eat up stories about struggling small time guys.

Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

Wake, that could be a great project for May-June-July!

10:21 AM
Blogger Loganville Tiger said...

If you run the Gator Wake your a better man than me....... I quit riding/racing in my early 20's only to buy a bike again @ 45 (actually was low bid on Ebay - but that is a long story). I enjoy the single track much more that the motocross tracks now a days. You see, I have a rule:

Don't get more 18 inches off the ground.... If you do, you have done something seriously wrong and bad things will happen.

So far it has served me well.....

10:26 AM
Blogger Loganville Tiger said...

It would make a good story Jay as these kids are up against factory riders with $100,000 factory machines. They are mostly "Privateers" with very limited sponsorship footing the bill themselves. Mostly for the love of the sport.

And in my opinion they are serious athletes - I read something somewhere years agao that the number one endurance sport is soccer - followed in second by motocross rider.

Riding hard will give you a serious workout - or so I have heard...... (see 18" rule above)

10:31 AM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

Haha I don't venture much farther out there than you do, I'm definitely a woods guy who loves single track over mx. But riding on the track is alot of fun every now and again too. The trails at Gatorback are the best we get to ride all year down here in Fl. And getting to ride on the same dirt as guys like Hannah, RJ and Mcgrath is pretty cool.

If I get to make it up to Durhamtown or Highland Park soon I'll definitely let you know.

10:43 AM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

If you do decide to do a story Jay, there will probably be guys practicing at Monster Mountain in Tallassee this week.

My search on Montgomery riders has come up short so far. But there are alot of guys that have grown up racing in the area. I'm going to look again a little later.

As for the coaches salaries, I am very pleased and would like to hear some opinions. The highest paid coordinator I know of in college football was the full Monte at UT. I think he was making about $1.2 Million.

I like the salary changes that Auburn has made and I like the philosophy of making sure all of the coaches are well compensated with the salaries all being fairly close together. ChizCo will work well as long as the Chiz is willing to keep his salary reasonable.

I liked the name Dismukes. Sounds like a great football name to me.

I also like to see players considering graduating early and enrolling early so they can participate in spring practice. It seems to be something that is becoming more and more popular.

I am also interested in seeing who will get redshirted out of this recruiting class. I can see some redshirts at WR and DE, but that is about it. I suppose several OL could be redshirted. Other areas seem to have playing time available.

don't know, Miller. But Russia vs Czech in hockey coming up soon. That beats baseball any day of the week.
Russia's number one line has Ovechkin, Malkin, and Semin. Holy cow!

Sorry, Geno, but I'm pulling for Jagr today.

AU's just missed a huge opportunity, bases loaded with 0 outs. They managed 1 run, then Morris and Fletcher came up... Fletch K'd looking to end the inning. You just can't do that... get the bat off your shoulders son.

2:41 PM
Blogger digger4au said...

The leader of this Blog should be bringing some substance soon.
I enjoyed watching the last 10 minutes of the basketball game.It was a perfect example of what frustrates me about baksetball "when the ball is going in the basket a poor team can beat an average team or even a good team." When the string music is silent they will lose just as convincingly. This team does not seem to have the ability to do other things necessary to win when they are not falling.

Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

I'm pretty sure all you need is a pull up bar and dumbbells.

If you don't have a pull up bar I have one of those iron gym ones that hangs in your doorway. It's great, hasn't damaged the door frame at all, isn't shaky, and comes off whenever you need to close the door. I'm sure there are others who make the same type of deal.

From what I've heard it'll make you hurt big time when you are first starting, but like everything else it gets better as you go.

2:46 PM
Blogger Miller said...

hrm... so it'd be worth the $75 then?

I guess I just need to find one of those pull up bar things...

2:51 PM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

I haven't done it so I can't say for sure, but I have heard it's worth it.

Like any other piece of exercise equipment or program, its only worth it if your committed. It's not heavy enough to get you buff just lifting it onto the shelf. I'm holding off until I know I will consistently use it everyday.

I just read an article on Bleacher Report, which usually provides some unique view points. Some seem very strange to me.

It says that Todd couldn't throw the deep ball and most of his passes were short or mid range. This seems very strange to me. From what I saw, we really lacked the mid range passes. Yes, there were the short dump offs, but most of the completion were either short of long with little in between. Any thoughts.

The other unique view is that Dontae Aycock should be a better runner after initial contact than Ben Tate and should do as good or better. Wasn't Aycock a QB in high school? Is there any reason to think he will be better than Tate? This seemed strange to me also.

The offensive line should be significantly improved was another point. Yes, one spot may be significantly improved when McCain is replaced, possibly with Gayden, but where will the other improvement come from?

Additionally, the defensive line was said to be significantly improved. Coleman was one of our best defensive players and is gone. We also lost some tackles, while there are players to step up. I just don't see that as a huge area for improvement.

Where I do see improvement is at linebacker, defensive back, quarterback, and wide receivers. Is it just me, or is that just another wacky bleacher report?

3:09 PM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

The Bleacher report is a cool idea. But there really aren't that many articles with any value beyond enjoyment from what I've seen. I take everything I read there with a grain of salt.

3:24 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Wake, I have to agree. There are some very unique views, but most seem to be unrealistic. Yes, we should be improved this next season. I would like to think everything in that article was true, but it seems far fetched.

The other prediction I find interesting is that Kodi Burns will become a playmaker as a possession receiver. While it is certainly possible, I wouldn't call it likely. We are very talented at receiver.

I'm wondering if maybe CGM was more interested in some of those open HC jobs than we were led to believe, and that perhaps his salary increase I'd reflective of that. Meaning - he actually got his raise about six weeks ago to keep him from leaving.
