Is Tyrik Rollison out?

Hey everyone. So we were talking yesterday about the quarterback situation. I told you all that I thought Clint Moseley would make it, that he appeared to be the most likely successor to Cam Newton/Neil Caudle.

This came as a surprise to some of you. Tyrik Rollison? you wondered.

Here's what was posted on Tyrik Rollison's Facebook page late last night:

Here's what was posted this morning:

Kids sometimes say things they don't mean. We'll see what happens.

  2. well, i guess that takes teh mystery out of the situation

    ReplyDelete
  3. Good luck in whatever he ultimately decides to do wherever he decides to do it.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Ouch!!! Rollison may be saying things he doesn't mean, but I doubt it. There was a reason he wasn't being recruited by the big name schools. I suspect this has a lot to do with it.

    ReplyDelete
  5. A dude on the Scout board says he is going to Sam Houston State. Is there such a place? Can that be right?

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'm sure bringing in Cam Newton was a blow to his chances at some immediate playing time. I will not be surprised if there is some more attrition from the QB position before the start of this season. We have a very crowed QB position....

    ReplyDelete
  7. good luck dude. thanks for choosing AU. hope it was fun while it lasted.

    ReplyDelete
  8. somebody find Eddie quick. we need a reaction from the conductor of the 'rollison express'.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Not worried about it. If Chris Todd can set passing records without spring practice and coming off a major surgery...

By the way, Chris Todd graduates as Auburn's 2nd highest rated QB (minimum 400 passes attempted.)

  10. consider 1/5 of the qb question answered.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Kids flake out or don't always make it to their potential. Reason No. 1 not to put all your eggs in the "star" rankings put out by the recruiting services.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I guess going to the Sam Houston State Bearkats (yes, that's accurate) might provide the opportunity for earlier playing time.

    ReplyDelete
  13. and yes. shsu exists. i think they had a qb picked in the first round about 10 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  14. isn't that where chiz and luper got their start together at sam houston?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Todd was a much better QB than many gave him credit for being. Many at Texas Tech wanted him to be the starter instead of Harrell. While he wasn't going to be a star, he was very solid in terms of decision making and the strength of his arm was underestimated. The biggest criticism I would have of Todd is you didn't see him thread the needle. He was more about good ball placement, but not the mid range passes where you have to get the ball there quick.

    ReplyDelete
  16. let the bammers start call for sanctions because chiz if funneling reject AU players back to his old school for texas oil money.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Div II school? So immediate playing time?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Disappointed. I've been told to no longer Express any QB or player for that matter. So I will hope the best QB wins the job between Mosley and Newton.

I guess this will allow us to sign one of the top QB's from this next year's class as we were looking to do.

    ReplyDelete
  19. sorry Eddie. glad we didn't pimp out that #17 jersey for ya. ha.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I wish I had posted this when I first had it! I could have been the WORLDWIDE LEADER® in Rollisongate.

    ReplyDelete
  21. todd = cox*
*cox had a lot more talent on the field and sidelines at his disposal.

i know that is blasphemy to some, but just sayin'

    ReplyDelete
  22. I hope we get Driskel in this next class.

I do believe Rollison likely had maturity issues.

I am hoping Moseley will be a solid backup to Newton this season. That is obviously just a big guess because I have not seen Moseley play enough to really have a clue how good he could be.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Does this free up a scholarship?

    ReplyDelete
  24. chip chip, to a large extent you are right about Todd being similar to Cox, although Cox was more talented, better at the medium range passes, and one of the best QBs we have had in terms of late drives. Cox also would have his occasional bad streaks. When he had a bad day, he really had a bad day. Cox didn't throw the long ball as well as Todd and my impression is his arm strength wasn't as good. In terms of accuracy, Cox was the most accurate QB we have had in a long time, probably back to the Dye era.

  25. Forget the Rollison Express I can't keep up with the Tate Express. Things are happening so fast that I have lost the caboose.
But I am not going to wait for the next Eddie Express I am going to try to catch up.
    Basketball tonight Ho Hum
    Welcome aboard Wells
Glad jhag made franchise..we need young go get em type players.
Rollison, what has he done on the field so far for Auburn....nuff said.

    ReplyDelete
  26. so in summary cox: more accurate better field general.
todd: throws better deep ball. all in all when you consider the talent each had at their disposal: todd=cox.

  28. I like Loganville's thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Aubie, are you two-timin' me?

    ReplyDelete
  30. maybe we get an early commit from a qb now that a spot on the depth chart has opened for 2012-13?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well be that as it may Alec, those people have never been in my kitchen.

    ReplyDelete
  32. chip chip, that is how I would call it. Neither Todd or Cox would beat you running the ball either. Both were solid, but not great. I would take Cox over Todd in a two minute drill, but that is about it. I would say Cox was better, but not drastically better. Cox should also get bonus points for durability. He bounced better than any other QB we have had.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well dear I don't give a damn
If you want to go to Teaxs hit the road.

  34. JGT, Make's me feel good to be the first.
I did it twice this morning.
    (That's what she said)

    ReplyDelete
  35. digger, that is my opinion too. Any player that doesn't want to be at Auburn should pack now and save time.

I really wonder what the issue is with Rollison. Surely he realized there would be competition for the QB position and it wouldn't be handed to him.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I hate to see a kid decide to leave, but I do agree with the philosophy that, if I remember correctly, Chizik espoused his first week back on campus: I'm thinking about the kids that are here. The kids here and willing to work hard to be here are the ones that the coaches (and fans) should be focused on.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Exactly, Lowcountry. I have much more respect for Kodi Burns than I do for players that can't stand the heat and leave. I have no patience for quiters.

I do believe the problem many of these high rated players have is that they are no longer the big man on campus when they come to college. Welcome to reality, kids. Athletic ability isn't enough to make you a starter at a major college program. It takes work.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Rollison has removed both posts.

    ReplyDelete
  39. SteveFC - I wonder if the problem is trouble keeping up academically. It would be much easier somewhere else. I don't believe it is the compitition.

    ReplyDelete
  40. JGT is that significant?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Auburn officials now know what's going on, what he said, and perhaps they asked him to remove it.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Jay G discovers evidence that Rollison reads the HABOTN?

As for academics, that is part of it. I could pretty much sleep my way through high school classes and pass. College is different.

College requires self discipline to succeed. My teachers in college didn't give a rip whether I showed up for class or not. The discipline required with football players is even rougher, because they have less free time.

    ReplyDelete
  43. The message on facebook is troubling, though. Why announce it on facebook? Someone wants sympathy? Don't let the door hit you in the ....

    ReplyDelete
  44. JGT I had thought that and almost made it part of my post. That makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  45. That reaffirms my idea.

    ReplyDelete
  46. If the kid wants to be a success in college he will talk with the coaches and come up with a plan. If a player said, hey coach, I have academic issues. I really want to be a part of the football team, but I need to get the academics straightened out first, I am sure the coaches would work with him and get him the help he needs.

    ReplyDelete
  47. SFC - No doubt the coaches would do everything in their power to help a kid out. The player would have to have the desire and drive to ask for help and go forward.

    ReplyDelete
  48. This is actually interesting in terms of Kodi Burns too. The only way I can see Kodi playing QB again is for us to be short handed at QB. Even if Rollison leaves, we have plenty of depth at QB. Now, if one more QB left, then things would get more interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I've never seen Rollison play, so I can't say I'm disappointed. I don't know anything about his situation, so I can't comment on it.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Well, at least he increased our recruiting rankings that one time.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Anonymous10:19 AM

I hope he stays. It's not good to run away when the going gets tough. I'm not sure what Rollison's situation is, but this is probably the first time in his life that he wasn't the man in football.

I just hope he learns before it's too late that anything in life that worth something requires hard work.

    ReplyDelete
  52. If Tyrik dosen't have the intestinal fortitude to buckle down ask for help and stay at Auburn what kind of leader would he be on the field? I guess I shouldn't jump to conclusions but that is my last question/statement on this matter.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Jason, exactly. Many overvalue their worth and think quitting will teach someone something. It reminds me of a guy I worked with back in the 80s in Madison, Alabama. He was fairly new. We were working collecting and stacking material from a machine that required you to be very quick. Suddenly he said he wasn't putting up with this crap and left. They had his replacement working after lunch and we never missed a beat. I am sure he thought he taught someone something. Basically he just taught our employer that this wasn't the job for him.

    ReplyDelete
  54. The only person that typically learns a lesson from quitting is the person who quits. Usually that lesson is "oops - I guess I wasn't that important after all". It's true at work, too. So... back to work!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Let's lay off bashing Tyrik. For all we know, Chizik approached him and told him he was behind Trotter and Mosely and it would be in his best interest to find another school. Auburn gets an open roster spot, Rollison gets playing time. He may very well have more intestinal fortitude and a better work ethic than all of us and our mothers combined.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hopefully Tyrik will work with the coaches to do what is best for him and not handle things publicly.

The most dispensable people are those that consider themselves indispensable.

Michael could be right. I have seen more positive comments from coaches on Trotter and Moseley than on Rollison, although I am sure all the QBs will have their shot in the spring. Some will definitely be eliminated before the fall starts.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Jay, just curious. Do you think Auburn monitors sights such as yours to keep up with what is happening in terms of the media?

    ReplyDelete
  58. No way he has a better work ethic than wtc's mother.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think Auburn keeps an eye on what's being reported, yeah, though I think most of it centers on recruiting.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Oh come on Michela, let's pile on and cast judgements way before we know what the whole story is.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I am not worried either, so far as he has been is a practice player, potential, but no on the field work, our quarterback postion with newton is crowded.

    1. Newton-Jr.
    2. Caudle-Sr.
    3. Trotter-Soph.
    4. Mosley-Fr.
    *5. Rollison-Fr.

Plus I know is interested in getting one QB next year and Caudle is the only one for sure that is leaving after next season.

    ReplyDelete
  62. This kinda reminds me of a 6 year old kid tell his parents he's going to run away.

    ReplyDelete
  63. JG, if Tyrik leaves the team, will you be able to interview him without retribution from the Athletic Department ?

    ReplyDelete
  64. While I would love to see Tyrik stay and compete for playing time, I can't call him a quitter or hate on him for leaving (if he is, in fact, leaving.)

Look at it from a grown-up job perspective (as opposed to playing a very, very important sport): if you are in a job where you know your chances of advancement are limited and you're offered an opportunity somewhere else for more (or even the same) money, how many would not go?

    ReplyDelete
  65. cant take the competition get out of here boy

    ReplyDelete
  66. Goldberg is reporting the same thing as Jay, now. Tyrik made a bad choice if it was really him that put that on his facebook. Stuff like this should be handled behind the seens and announced once something is definite. If not, the media, justifiably so, will be all over anyone involved.

    ReplyDelete
  67. jhag - have you made your selection yet?

    ReplyDelete
  68. jhag, bringing the tough love. I like Moseley, big kid, if he has a big arm I like him in the system.

    ReplyDelete
  69. jhag, when you do, you and Jay need to get together and do a hat ceremony via ustream!

    ReplyDelete
  70. i"m not sure who had mentioned it, but someone sometime had mentioned that in this age of Twitter and Facebook and whatnot, people have lost their ability to pause and think about what they're going to say. That coupled with today's society's need for immediate info, as well as selective political correctness makes for way to many misunderstandings

    ReplyDelete
  71. HAHA perhaps seanzie perhaps

  72. so we play @ MSU on a thursday night huh? watch out

    ReplyDelete
  73. well I held the 7 footer to 11 points last night but they have two other D1 players a SG going to Indiana and a SF going to Louisville...so im announcing my basketball retirement today...sucks

    ReplyDelete
  74. jhag, can you shoot free throws? You might crack the starting line up at Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  75. God forbid anyone have a thought, or an opinion, and post it on Facebook, a message board or a blog. Let alone a 19 year old. Or a 46 year old. Certainly no one around here posts without counting the cost.

If Tyrik leaves, it's not because he's a quitter, and for anyone to imply such, shame on you. When we signed Cam Newton, he realized what the score was. This isn't a kid who grew up in Opelika dreaming of coming to Auburn. He's a guy who came to a place because of an opportunity -- and that opportunity isn't going to pan out.

If he's not happy at Auburn and wants to try something different, then good luck and Godspeed.

Some will say he hasn't done a thing at Auburn. I will disagree. His signing, which hasn't resulted in contributions on the field, did help prop up our signing class and helped give us some momentum when we badly needed it. So let the Express roll on in Auburn, at Sam Houston or wherever.

I hope he finds the happiness he wants and the maturity he apparently needs.

    ReplyDelete
  76. If he leaves, hes a quitter, he is walking out on Auburn...just how I see it atleast...Sorry I'm not sorry

    ReplyDelete
  77. ...unless you're a Sam Houston fan, then he's a starter, not a quitter.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I agree that if he leaves (for playing time issues) then he is a quitter. Its not like he wasn't given an opportunity he just didn't take advantage of it. No one to blame but himself.

  81. What about players that leave school early for the NFL. They, like Rollison, are essentially choosing a better opportunity for themselves. They're quitters though, and deserve to be hated and talked bad about on blogs.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Yeah...but that was because my coach as going to get a college job...

haha best of luck..In MY OPINION, which you do not have to agree with, he walked on Auburn and a chance to start at an SEC school for 2 years...quitter in my book...sorry peeps

    ReplyDelete
  86. Jhag = Franchise player or potential quitter? Discuss. Not really, Jhag. You're not a quitter.

But here's the point. Auburn essentially "quit" on Rollison by signing Newton. That's OK. It happens all the time -- in college football programs and in the workplace. The coaches apparently came to the conclusion the guy isn't the answer they had hoped he was. So Auburn moved on. It's hypocritical to not let Tyrik move on (with the caveat that he doesn't trash us on the way out).

It's hypocritical to call the guy a quitter if he wants to go somewhere else when they've essentially sent the message to him that he don't think he's good enough. Spare me the one in a million "if he were of real character he would stay and show them." I submit 99.8 percent of the world doesn't do in the workplace. They go find something else to do.

What if Kodi had decided to leave last year? Many around here would have been relieved. Or what if he decides to leave this year? Would that make him a quitter, too?

    ReplyDelete
  87. They have 6 qbs on their roster and a returning senior starter...maybe he will transfer to a JUCO school if he thinks someone is better than him

    ReplyDelete
  88. Kodi Burns is not a quitter though...he is staying

    ReplyDelete
  89. i got mold 'tween my toes and mildew in my nose. Will somebody PUH LEEEZ send a drought our way?

    ReplyDelete
  90. Auburn didn't quit on Rollison by signing Newton. Rollison has no experience and would have two years as possibly the starter after Newton leaves. During those two years he could have gotten the experience to be the starter. Experience means a lot at QB.

    ReplyDelete
  91. To me, signing Newton was a vote against Caudle, not Rollison.
