I wish the news would stop talking about people dying. Maybe I'm just sensitive right now, but it's really bumming me out.

basketball question:

does anyone think AU would have at least made the tourney 1 time for lebo if the teams avg free throw percentage was 7-12% higher. i don't know what it really is over that span or season by season. i venture to guess it is around 65%. i think they could have won a lot more close games shooting 75% (which to me is horrible for any basketball player that is not a center). that is one of the areas i expect the next coach to improve upon.

tht, i bet there is some talk about tobacco and cotton in there.

9:33 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

i missed the tobacco, but did see cotton, fish, flour, mills, turnpikes, and of course, MAP.

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

chip chip - yes, I firmly believe we would have been in the tournament with a decent FT%. There's just no excuse for bricking the freebies.

The Men's Downhill Skiing has been supposed indefinitely. :(

Apparently Whistler has this problem a lot in competitive skiing. It's location right on the Pacific supposedly wreaks havoc with its weather patterns.

Maybe that's something the ski hotties who have visited Whistler can attest to.

whistler has the largest vertical (over 5,000 feet) in North America, and that is FANTASTIC...if it has snow. The top elevation is barely over 7,000 feet. Combine that with proximity to the ocean, and you can get rain during the winter.

FYI..."supposed" should be "postponed" in the first sentence of my last post.

Thanks for sharing THT.

Before this, I really wanted to visit Whistler. Still do, but I guess I better make sure I pick the best possible time to do so (whenever that is).

jhag, thanks for posting that speech by Chizik. How can anyone not be excited and proud that he is our head coach? Even the hardest critic can't sit back and be impressed with him and the direction of this team.

cincy, that clip that you posted was good. I've seen that guy before. It's amazing what he can do.

chip, I agree with you on the ft%. I think Lebo would have won many more games. He has lost so many close games(under 10 points) where the team missed 10+ free throws. They could have even one some games that were not so close at the end. Adding those points throughout the game changes the landscape of the game. It's not just Lebo's teams that can't shoot ft's, Ellis' teams couldn't shoot them either.

This has been a particularly warm Winter for us in the Pacific NW. Whistler has suffered like the rest of us but the higher section still have really good snow.

E-Bro - mid January is when we went. One year they had very little snow the last 100 yards near the base and none in the village. The next year there was gobs of snow everywhere. We went when the exchange rate made it about 30% less expensive than skiing in CO or UT. Unless you can save money like we did via the exchange rate, the weather risk and extra travel time probably doesn't make it worthwhile. But it is a great mountain.

Chip ...

To me, last year's team was the only one that was close. His 7-9 team was lucky to get that close to .500 in the league.

So looking at last year's team, and I don't have the box scores. There were two SEC losses at home -- by 3 to Florida and by 7 to Vandy.

More importantly, there were four games in the non-conference season -- losses.

At home to Mercer by 4.
Neutral court to Dayton in OT by 1
Neutral court to Northern Iowa by 6
At Xavier by 7.

Flip two of the non-conference losses and win one of those SEC games, and we would have been in -- and lost in the first round.

Did someone say Jay G. was going on furlough beginning 2/14 and through the 20th. What a bummer.

Maybe I'll start posting once he leaves so I CAN BE THE LEADER.

I commented earlier about the poor timing of Google's home page image for today, but even worse is the "I'm feeling lucky" button below the image.
