Whitaker chooses Auburn
Hey everyone. Defensive tackle Jeffrey Whitaker of Warner Robins, Ga., has decided to sign with Auburn on National Signing Day.
On why he chose Auburn: ``It just felt comfortable. There was no question. I couldn't turn away from it. It just felt like home."
On what he wants to do on the field: ``I'm going to be that three technique so hopefully I can move some guys out of my way and make my way to the quarterback or running back."
On his relationship with other Auburn recruits: ``The class that's coming in -- there's a pretty big bond. We've been keeping in touch for quite some time. They've been keeping me on the radar."
On the decision-making process: It wasn't tough. It was aggravating. Everybody was calling you and this and that. When I was little, I said I wanted to be a rock star celebrity. After this, I just want to be a simple person. It wasn't tough. Pressure is whatever you make of it. There wasn't any pressure. It was just aggravating from time to time."
On his training regimen: ``I've got to run. I've been eating, but I've got to run now. You just made me go from happy to sad. I don't even know what to say anymore! I have to run, train, sweat, hydrate. Same 'ol, same 'ol."
On living the dream: ``It's a dream that I probably never though would happen. We came up hard. We didn't have the Nike brands. I can remember a day coming home and having holes in my shoes. I'd look in my closet and there were like four outfits. My mom, I wish she was here. About five and a half years ago, she passed. It's a dream, but I'm not done. I'm looking to keep getting better. Hopefully one day, when it's all said and done, then I can evaluate myself as a player."
On the effect of Tracy Rocker on his decision: ``It was a big one. That's the main thing when you're making a decision like that -- who you're going to be around a lot. The head coach is nice and everything. Your position coach is going to be like your head coach, you'll spend time with him, learn a lot from. I think he's a guy who's going to have my back 100 percent."
On his plans for 2010: ``I always say when you get the redshirt, it's determined by how hard you work during the offseason. If I came in and 340 and overweight, yeah, I think I'd be redshirted. I'm pretty comfortable. I'll come in and make an immediate impact because I'll work my butt off and come in looking to do some great things."

Jay, thanks for the link to that excellent Lattimore article. I am now a Lattimore fan no matter where he ends up.
Wow, I just got back home after hearing the news on the radio and looked at HABOTN, knowing that there would be a lot of hits. I had no idea that it would be like this and it may get even more hits after Wed.
Isn't this great news for our Auburn? I just knew things were on an upswing when the men's and women's BB teams played as well as they did over the weekend. I don't know if my ancient heart can take what may happen over the next two days. But, boy I am excited.
Lattimore seems like a good guy. You can see why he is down to Auburn and SC. The family stuff that Auburn is selling is right up his alley, but he will feel like he is letting an entire town down if he leaves SC. Of course, maybe that pressure at SC is a reason to leave.
Jet - in your example, I only dealt in committable offers. No middle person used. The only exception happened in the reverse when someone acted as an intermediary to gauge my interest if another person asked me to Sadie Hawkins. But that's it, Norm handles his own business.
Get some!
Lattimore Article
http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/TheRecruitnik/tag/160128/marcus_lattimore
Sadie Hawkins. What a disaster that night was.
Who is Sadie Hawkins and how does Norm know her?
I think I have a new recruiting strategy. Why not recruit 3 stars and convince scout and rivals to bump them up to five stars so they will play better? Nobody would see that one coming.
As I recall it, it wasn't a disaster. For me at least. I can't remember who your date was, or why it may have been a disaster, but I can remember another one of yours that you may have thought disaster at the time but now laugh about. Actually, there's been a lot of collective laughing on that one.
Do I sense a wood eye wood eye, hair lip hair lip joke coming?
Actally, it all ties nicely into one story, Norm. For another time and place.
Some of the UGA fans (on AJC.com) are now rationalizing the Whitaker commitment claiming pulling his offer was a pre-condition to Thornton's commitment (???).
It seems that denial is not just a river in Egypt from which flows a tangled web of Gumpian self-deception. (I know I'm mixing my metaphors here and but I thought it was proper for such a tortured thought process).
IV: This is TERRIBLE news. Now expectations for performance will be through the roof!! See, this is just why Tubs got us the diamonds in the rough. Tell 'em Steve from Lubbock...
SteveFC - it ain't my computer, it doesn't even belong to the company I work for. I don't think the computer owners are going to switch to Linux. They're not that smart.
A great Facebook status from one of my friends:
``To the girl with the 'I'm not spoiled, I'm just well taken care of' license plate frame...that's a nice '85 Honda Civic hatchback."
Commander,
That rationale explains a lot. I now see where Steve from Lubbock was coming from.
JayGTate - thanks for the Lattimore link. He sure sounds like an Auburn man to me, no matter where he decides to go to school.
I just downloaded Google Chrome. I've been using IE for YEARS, so this is going to take some getting used to.
Any tips from those of you that have had it for awhile?
Luv - you'll have it mastered in minutes.
Luv, where did you go to get it? Is it user friendly?
Jet...concerning "The Night Before Recruitmas":
Superb.
LUV - I lost your email address; send me an email and I'll send you the most important tip.
It was mentioned earlier but Cecil Hurt supposedly bashed Auburn/Chizik's recruiting on the Fine$sabascum show today. Does anyone know anything about it? How in the world do you bash a top 3 recruiting class? The walmartians never cease to amaze.
Can I get that tip as well?
CH=B, I just Googled Google Chrome. From the little bit I've done, it is user friendly.
OK, it's time to make dinner. Have a great night, Hotties! War Damn Eagle and War Damn Whitaker!
1st post from Google Chrome. I'm loving it already. It's a hundred times faster than IE. Hopefully it doesn't lock up as much either.
Luv, you've got mail
CH=B - not even close. IE is a skunk; Chrome is the finest aroma.
According to Brian Mathews SC will still be signing with AU and there will be some "surprising developments" on NSD.
Wow that was cool. Google Chrome has spell check when blogging.
Leave IE to the Bammers.
Firefox or Chrome are fine by me.
I thought all browsers did.
Jimmy was trying to tell us about Marcus Lattimore talking to The Sporting News this afternoon.
Here's the story
Unless the author left out a lot of stuff he said about Auburn, it sounds like he is leaning USCe. But I am going to think positively that he will be a Tiger!
Off to take my awesome daughter out to dinner. See you hotties later tonight. Could our day get any better?!
I was thinking the same thing, Cincy. But I trust wtc's Mom.
Y'all have a great dinner.
CH=B - did you get your HABOTN link added to the bookmark bar? No need to type, no need to open bookmarks, just click on HABOTN!
hello hots. a good day for au. more to come
I decided to give U2 another try. I figured ALL of those people couldn't be wrong. As it turns out they still suck.
I am still gonna go with what WTC's Mom says and just wait until signing day and rejoice.
can't wait to see who the surprises will be on or after signing day. I asked this before, and someone alluded to it, but is anyone else hearing rumors about Jarrick williams out of mobile..a ua commit..
on signing day, coleman will be a tiger, regardless of what UA offer he has.
THT not yet.
THT-I have Chrome now and need to know how to get the bookmarks on the tab instead of typing them.
now I do.
Sponge-keep that down home.
I really thought my internet was slow along with my computer, but now things are working like they should have.
WTC, hit the star that is beside the address bar.
Sponge, I have been hearing that also but I don't know how true it is. I am hearing a D. Benton type announcement on NSD.
thanks.
I read that article as lat is going to SC...
However, it has got to get into Lats mind that:
1. lil stevie has never been able to recapture the Florida magic at SC.
2. He will not have a cast of supporting players to make him shine...
I just read that Allen has been taken off of the walmartians rivals list.
If Jarrick Williams were to defect from the evil empire for Auburn, it would make sense. They have three 5 star safeties committed and we have only one 3 star safety committed. We are already short on safeties so playing time would come quicker at AU for Williams.
i can't imagine any good surprises on NSD. Maybe my expectations are too high.
Not sure if this has been posted yet, but Auburn is now listed as number 3 on rivals and Alabama 4. They no longer list Keenan Allen as an Alabama commit. It wasn't updated on the main page you had to physically click the rankings for this to show.
Latt seems like a smart guy. I think he can see through the Fred Taylor Comparisons. Nothing about Darth Visor's stay at USC has resembled his days at UF... his offense was wide open in a time when no one else was. Now its just another offense.
ch=b and wtc - did you rename it HABOTN? Or did it already have that name?
me thinks i should go to wild bills fireworks and get me sum. cause there may be sum goin off in auburn wed. jhag needs to get him sum to. au has ole MO on their side, as in momentum
I didn't rename it but I am about to.
Any more tips?
I renamed it HABOTN.
Thanks THT on the tinyurl fix, how do you create tinyurls for this site? since we are all in techie talk
We are about to see a little chink in sabears armour. tubby didn't know how to but it there. chiz is going to show him. hard work and good assistants that believe in au, and love it.
This comment has been removed by the author.
WTC,
Is Mom talking or is she playing shut mouth at this stage?
http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/
Auburn moves ahead of Alabama on rivals rankings
It is good to finish ahead of UAt in any good category, but it isn't the end all. This should just be our starting point. You do not have to beat them in recruiting every year. You just can't let them be a top 5 and you flounder at #15-20.
UA fans need to have a bigger prize in mind. it may take a couple of years, but this is a nice start.
Jimmy - i didn't create a tinyurl, i just linked the web page.
JayGT uses an alternative, http://bit.ly/ to create short URLs
She has said about she need to say IV. News has been pretty consistent for 3 months now. She has missed on 1 so far. Seastrunk.
If they are keeping score in something, lets beat alabama
That post should say AU fans should bigger goals and aspirations.
jhag- I agree. I just don't want folks to start acting they are the only rooster on a hen farm just because they got a higher ranked class than UA. (as of this posting)
If AU does finish ahead of UAT in recruiting this year, I can't wait to hear the excuses and explanations by the walmartians that they don't worry about where they finish in recruiting. It's all about players that really want to be a walmartian and be a part of the walmartian tradition. Nobody else has tradition but the walmartians. Speaking of walmartians, where is faker. Hadn't heard anything out of him. Do you reckon he is done spying for awhile?
you are right that this is just a beginning, we don't instantly become competitive. they will still be freshmen in the sec.
IV, it has already started. Even their reporters are bashing our class.
IV-they will be no different than MANY AU fans over the last few years when UAt mopped the floor with us in recruiting.
"any more [Chrome] tips?"
I'm afraid I'll have to defer. I rarely use Chrome since I haven't really needed it on my Macbook. It is essential on a PC! I do my best to avoid my old PC upstairs. But just explore, you won't hurt anything. There should be a little wrenchie looking tool drop down menu at the top right. That's a good place to start.
i dont think faker is in too much turmoil. they just won the nc. this just means au not rolling over and playing dead. that maybe chiz needs to be afforded a little more respect.
on a basketball note. anyone hear this. lebo out, the rifleman is in.
Sponge, are you toying with me?
South Carolina's office looks more like Fred Sanford than Fred Taylor.
Sponge ... I offered that purely speculative talk a week ago. Hoopie, though, didn't chastise me because he, too, wants Lebo gone.
CH=B, I heard Cecil Homer on fbaum today. He basically said that SC would be at UAt if UAt wanted him, otherwise he would be at AU. So the usual, if he comes to AU, its because they didn't want him. He then just poo-pooed the class as better than average but nothing compared to little nicky's first class.
He is so full of crap. I think the way the class sits right now compares to $aban's 1'st class. We are not done yet though.
I heart Fred Sanford
I also heart Chuck Person
His argument was that saban's first class produced a soph. Heisman Trophy winner.
One of the weakest Heisman winners ever. In two years we could have one.
Isn't Chuck Persons on the outs with Jay Jacobs. he doesn't come around AU very much.
That is what i hear anyway.
Jay Jacobs has 93 million reasons for hoops to succeed. Chuck gushed about Jay on the telecast game early in the second half, failing to reference the coach's name in the interview. Chuck expressed confidence in Jay's ability to get the program headed in the right direction.
Chuck on NBC now!
Tzach tweeted that today was a good day in recruiting and that NSD will be even better.
they used the term "Hottie" on Chuck. I think that's an infringement on JGT's copyright.
"any more [Chrome] tips?"
I'm late to the party and this may be a repeat, but...
If you didn't already, download the beta version that allows extensions. Chrome is good...beta version is better.
This comment has been removed by the author.
don't spoil it THT I'm DVR'ing it right now. I don't get to watch TV until the FAUWG goes to be.
How do I know if I downloaded the beta version or not?
Scoats, Flips happen at 400, not 200.
You were a bit early, don't worry its common for males your age.
Should have been 400 not 300.
Whitaker's commitment and Keenan Allen's de-commitment from Alabama has moved Auburn up to No. 3 in the Rivals.com team rankings.
Did Allen officially decommit?
great news, JGT.
Now let's beat UA-T in T'loser next fall and we'll really have something to brag about.
Rivals.com has taken Allen off Alabama's list. Sounds like he's going to Cal instead.
Going to play with the FAUWG before she goes to bed and then watch Chuck. Talk to you all later. It's been a great day with much more to come.
WDE!!!!
Scout also says Coleman is back leaning toward Auburn.
That would be huge. Bama, losing out on Allen and Coleman.
Is ANYONE watching Chuck right now. Holy cow Sarah is awesome.
Has Auburn ever had a running back run for more yards than the Evil Empire's Heisman winner in the Iron Bowl?
I have been in Lebo's corner for awhile, but if Chuck Person wants the job, I want him to have the job.
"How do I know if I downloaded the beta version or not?"
There's a small link on the download page. You have to specifically download it.
http://www.google.com/intl/en/landing/chrome/beta/
Wake - I know. I realized as soon as I hit post. Thought I deleted before anyone saw it.
Auburn passing the evil empire on rivals means nothing because everyone knows rivals is run by a...oh, wait a minute, isn't it run by a Bambi? Could that be?
My best chrome tip is for transferring favorites from your IE favorites bar to your chrome toolbar. if you open IE and shrink it down so you can see it on top of chrome you can just drag the icon onto the chrome favorites bar. Then your good to go.
I also think we should start donating to HABOTN. Maybe we could set up some sort of tax free fund.
there aren no Hotties using Chrome on Mac?
THT - I don't use anything on my Mac, you see, I don't have a Mac. I like Chrome a lot so chances are that if I did have a Mac, I'd put Chrome all over it.
Get some.
Chrome has a bad rep on the Mac. The original release sucked big time. Safari and Firefox work just fine so I need no need to try the new release.
the first release for mac was crap. Never tried it again.
It's two days before Recruitmas, and you boys are talkin' 'bout your hard drives.
Computer dorks. I'd rather a return to SKIBOTN. Not really.
snowhare,
you missed an awesome snowboard/ski/snowmobile/apres ski "scenery" discussion yesterday....well, it wasn't so awesome, but it was something...
Jet this place is just full of geeks isn't it?
A veritable Geek Vegas, Norm.
I prefer the term nerd.
Good thing no one here knows what I really do for a living. Really, it has nothing to do with technology. I promise.
Technology is your job, Norm. Flipping pages and raising a future 4 star is your life.
Way to mess it up for me Jet. I was planning to tell everyone I was actually a male prostitute. I even had a catchy slogan and everything.
PF, what was the central topic? Have you been anywhere yet this year?
I noticed how AL.com has not posted any heading that KA is no longer committed to UA. Even when Coleman was still committed but was taking visits, it became headline news on AL.com.
Why, it's almost like there was a media bias in favor of UAT. It be terrible if there were a media bias on something at the national level.
wtc, they could have a valid excuse. Maybe the Bambis that run the place jumped out the windows when they heard.
Norm ... I didn't think you wanted everyone to know that you were actually Fred Garvin, male prostitute.
Sup folks, been a while since I've been around. I got this dang thing called work that has really gotten in the way of my HABOTN chats. Big news today on Whitaker, but I have an uneasy feeling going into NSD on a few of our targets. However it goes down, attaboys all around to the coaching staff. They said we were going after the best players in the nation and they wasted no time.
I have an elaborate system of trestles.
Norm ...
Aren't Connie and Carlo having their child christened Wednesday? If so, that would be a good day for you to settle all family business -- if you catch my drift.
PENS WIN! PENS WIN!!
Penguins 5 Sabres 4
Crosby had a hat trick during an 8 minute stretch in the 2nd period
Carlo has to pay for Santino.
AL.COM does have a story on Keenan Allen. I wonder why Bama doesn't want him?
Speaking of business, where's Michael?
I want to ask him about his.
Back from dinner and full of wonderful pizza with sundried tomatoes, all kinds of cheeses including goat cheese, basil and awesome olive oil. Mmmmmm! Did I miss anything?
just nerdy talk, Cincy
Yeah, I told Kathryn about Google Chrome, I think she is going to try it tonight.
THT,
We are about to have ice cream with hot fudge sauce. Kathryn could give you a run for your money in your love of ice cream. :)
I'm out for the night, Hotties. I've got to go eat a big bowl of ice cream so I can have the strength to burn a bunch of files on a CD for MrsTHT.
Thanks for all the substance today, Homer Tate.
Someone mentioned something about dragging favorites from IE to Chrome. When I was setting up Chrome it asked me if I wanted it to do that for me.
great minds think alike! and great minds love ice cream!!!
I just had a Butterfinger Blizzard... it was awesome.
Still some Blue Bell in the freezer.
CHB - when I moved to Chrome way back when, I chose to have it import my favorites from IE. It worked fine, I have all my old favorites organized just as they were (including sub-folders) with IE.
Now, here is why I read the bleacher report. You can't beat unrealistic optimism.
"The Tigers will also pick up Cody Parkey at place kicker. He is capable of sending the ball out of the end zone every time on kickoffs..."
Bartender, I'll take whatever that guy is drinking.
I'm with PF re: Chrome on Mac.
The first build was terrible. I'm cool with Firefox.
I was able to get all my ustream stuff rolling tonight. That's good. Maybe it'll work (as instructed) tomorrow.
Firefox is the way to go. It is good, no matter what platform you run it on.
SFC, Parkey is actually really good and thought of as one of the best kickers in the country. He had a pretty bad showing at the AA game, but had a great week of practice. He will end up being a really solid kicker for us.
Coleman is looking much more likely right now
jhag, where have you been? Didn't you hear that the walmartians kicked him to the curb?
CH=B, how much would you like to wager on him kicking every kickoff out of the endzone?
Been doing basketball man, my baaad
I do think we get Coleman, but that is just my gut talking. I have no inside source. I just haven't seen anything that would convince me otherwise.
THIS NEEDS TO HIT TURBO MODE
Jhag ... you da man to do it.
GETCHA SOME boiiii
Acquire a portion.
Amass a share
I still dont get how Chizik is pulling this off
Great get for AU today, this was more important than just about any other player on the board for us. Lemonier would be my next choice, Latt, then Coleman. Coleman is gravy to me. We NEEDED the dl and could use another. Great job in Chiziks first full year, i'll cook my own crow and enjoy it. Can't wait to see who we actually get on signing day. I
Jhag-Listen Fbomb each day. It is easy. Au is paying players. We paid Cam newton $125,000. Dan Mullen himself is turning us in because he paid him $50,000 and Cam took it and then committed elsewhere. He is ready to tell the NCAA that he paid Newton the money.
Shane from Centerpoint has all the scoop on Au football.
HAHA That is funny.
Would yall prefer a 2007 Range Rover or an 2008 F150 King Ranch
Seriously though. I saw either on this blog or some article that stated Chizik learned the family thing from Mack Brown and has used it well. It was good article that discussed how he has taken what he learned from Brown and is using it.
THT.... if you would be so kind sir as to send me the email containing the essential Chrome tip... it would be much appreciated.
I've been a firefox loyalist, but the last build was buggy, so I am giving Chrome a try. I do hear that the most recent FF update runs smoothly.
jhag... dude... it was just a day and a half ago you were certain Coleman was gonzo... now you're changing your tune? whistle dixie boy... stick to one side of the story or stop whistlin'
Unfortunately that story is what the REC talking points are for this week and last week. AU is playing players. If you read it, it is laughable, but some of those knuckleheads believe every word of it. How could a top notch recruit go to AU over UA? Oh I know, we didn't want him.
Cecil Hurt actually said today that if UA wanted Coleman, they would get him. Does he actually believe that spewed crap?
personally, since I dont live on a farm... I'd take the RR.... that, and I despise ford trucks...
the spin being put out about coleman is that he is bammer's if they want him. however, they don't know if they really need him or can find room. if they miss on stone and some other dude, then coleman is waiting in the wings to be their first 5 star greyshirt.
$aban cannot risk AU winning a head to head battle for a 5 star recruit. now they can say they didn't want him if $aban's final pitch failed, but if they get him it was $aban showing AU he can simply wink and get a recruit that has been committed to AU since april.
I'll Take the King Ranch.
I can sell it and buy a good Silverado and have cash to spare.
Things change in recruiting sir
Chrome users:
I have two computers. This laptop and a desktop at work. I would like ot take the favorites list from my desktop and move them to this laptop that uses Chrome. How do I copy the list to a thumb drive and then import them to this laptop. Or better yet, can I do that
only problem is... this isn't one of those things that changed...
it changed, only if you listen to the walmartian spin machine...
not gonna argue
wtc.... if you have Chrome one both... you can sync your bookmarks bar to your google ID, and it will sync to your other computer automatically
good deal. thanks
hey baby come home with me in my range...or hey baby come take a ride in my king ranch
hmmmmm
However, I have chrome on the laptop and IE on the desktop. Can I export my bookmarks to my gmail account anyway? How would I do that?
You have to be f'n kidding me!!??!!
http://forums.tidesports.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3631098265/m/7751065469
What a pathetic bunch of losers.
I hope that is a poorly constructed joke and they aren't really doing that.
Dmiller-Was that the whole link? Only took you to the forum.
do you want to export bookmarks from the IE at work to your laptop on Chrome at home?
You can do that.... under the file menu there is an option to export favorites.... you can then import them into chrome under the options tab
exporting will export a file to your desktop... then save it to a thumb drive and move it right on over
This comment has been removed by the author.
crap...it didn't paste in either..
letme see if i can figure out how to link it
Is the site about making fun of Zach Maynard?
That is horrendously pathetic
Ah, Bammers...
I certainly hope it is a poorly contructed joke... surely they wouldn't be that pathet..... ok, they probably would.
Guys, don't you think a lot of this is just baiting Auburn fans?
GOnna flip this puppy
Fine I'll do it myself
Good job, wake! Norm would be proud.
Wowsers... thats my first in a while.
Nice work team
Couldn't have done it without you cincy
gonna be 85 this week down here sheesh
