On why he chose Auburn: ``It just felt comfortable. There was no question. I couldn't turn away from it. It just felt like home."
On what he wants to do on the field: ``I'm going to be that three technique so hopefully I can move some guys out of my way and make my way to the quarterback or running back."
On his relationship with other Auburn recruits: ``The class that's coming in -- there's a pretty big bond. We've been keeping in touch for quite some time. They've been keeping me on the radar."
On the decision-making process: It wasn't tough. It was aggravating. Everybody was calling you and this and that. When I was little, I said I wanted to be a rock star celebrity. After this, I just want to be a simple person. It wasn't tough. Pressure is whatever you make of it. There wasn't any pressure. It was just aggravating from time to time."
On his training regimen: ``I've got to run. I've been eating, but I've got to run now. You just made me go from happy to sad. I don't even know what to say anymore! I have to run, train, sweat, hydrate. Same 'ol, same 'ol."
On living the dream: ``It's a dream that I probably never though would happen. We came up hard. We didn't have the Nike brands. I can remember a day coming home and having holes in my shoes. I'd look in my closet and there were like four outfits. My mom, I wish she was here. About five and a half years ago, she passed. It's a dream, but I'm not done. I'm looking to keep getting better. Hopefully one day, when it's all said and done, then I can evaluate myself as a player."
On the effect of Tracy Rocker on his decision: ``It was a big one. That's the main thing when you're making a decision like that -- who you're going to be around a lot. The head coach is nice and everything. Your position coach is going to be like your head coach, you'll spend time with him, learn a lot from. I think he's a guy who's going to have my back 100 percent."
On his plans for 2010: ``I always say when you get the redshirt, it's determined by how hard you work during the offseason. If I came in and 340 and overweight, yeah, I think I'd be redshirted. I'm pretty comfortable. I'll come in and make an immediate impact because I'll work my butt off and come in looking to do some great things."
Now that's what I call DL Substance!!!

ReplyDeleteWOW Viewers over 3,000 and counting....tick...tick....tick...
ReplyDeleteso, the announcement is anticlimactic because his whole family is wearing AU gear?

AUBURN it is.
ReplyDeleteeven Whitaker sporting the AU gear!!!

ReplyDeleteJGT - I'm amazed how you do that real-time.
ReplyDeleteAnother defensive lineman from Georgia called us "University of Auburn." It was at a news conference ... Pat Dye's first as head coach.
ReplyDeleteWhitaker
ReplyDelete"I just feel at Home..." "...made my decision on Sunday"
...the process wasn't tough it was aggravating...all the people callin you..."

ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments by Whitaker, Jay G!
ReplyDeleteMove along, nothing here to see.
ReplyDeleteOn the process: "It wasn't tough. It was aggravating. When I was a little kid, I wanted to be a superstar rock star. Now, after having gone through this, I just want to be a simple person."
ReplyDeleteHE REALLY GETS IT....
Whitaker-Check
ReplyDeleteLattimore now on the clock.
seriously, how many of us have work backed up?
ReplyDeleteI've been following the HABOTN since around Oct. or Nov. '08. The excitement level is at an all-time high. Would you agree, Jay G?
ReplyDeleteI hope this guy is as nasty on the field as he is pleasant off of it...maybe Tracy Rocker-ish.
ReplyDeleteIf we land Lattimore I would flip, I dont see it happening
ReplyDeleteThis class just got a whole lot better. Most of our holes are filling up. Latt is not a must but he would be icing on the cake.
ReplyDeleteJhag...just wait and see man. This staff keeps defying the expectations...they have a few more opportunities to do so.
ReplyDeleteDamn !!! ok back to work...
ReplyDeleteWhat is the "three technique"?
ReplyDeleteTHT,
ReplyDeleteI'm multitasking by pretending to type a report and doing research in the internet.....hahahahaa who am I fooling!
PF, killer new thread upz last thread!
ReplyDeleteNose Guard Luv!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a stance...one hand on the ground.
ReplyDeleteLUV The gap between the guard and tackle is called the B gap. If you are a defensive tackle lined up in the B gap, but shifted over a bit towards the guard, you're called a 3-technique.
ReplyDeletethat was from
ReplyDeletehttp://football.calsci.com/Positions8.html
Well, that was a nice lunch break. I hope tomorrow's dinner is as substantial.
ReplyDeleteGreat job HayG. Bringing substance to a free site, that pays him no money, so he can get the number of hits up, so he can get more No Money.
ReplyDeleteGood job Homer.
THT- now thats substance I can understand!!!! so much you learn from the Hotties!!!
ReplyDeleteSo, for a family that can't afford new shoes, where does all of that Auburn gear come from?
ReplyDeleteThanks, AUnMobilz!
ReplyDeleteLuv- It's a defensive tackle that lines up between the offensive guard and Tackle, usually in the B gap.
ReplyDeleteand Tar Heel and Seanzie...
ReplyDeleteOops- Got a work call in the middle of answering Luv's question.
ReplyDeleteok, is it safe to go potty now?
ReplyDeletethanks, Mike. The time seemed right.
ReplyDeleteHOTTIES, is it me or is it hotter than a pair of the New Kobe nike's in herrrr!!!!
ReplyDeleteand Eddie
ReplyDeleteApparently I was wrong. New term for me.
ReplyDeleteNow ain't that special.
ReplyDeletejhag you better get on the wagon before it leaves town.
You are the MAN Jay G. Tate.
Mobilz, hotter than an empty chamber...
ReplyDeleteThe three technique is the forearm shiver to the throat, a kick in the crotch, and a 2 x 4 to the back of the neck.
ReplyDeletePF was just trying to fake me out of the BEASLEY!!! post on the old thread. I didn't take the bait.
ReplyDeleteJet - that sounds like a Jim Duggan move.
ReplyDeleteBTW..
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean Coleman is going to UAT???
scout was right on this one.
100 post in less than 30 MInutes, may not be a record but sure beats the average.
ReplyDeleteJet, step away from WWF!!!
ReplyDeleteMore on the '3' technique:
ReplyDeleteA 3-technique tackle lines up between the offensive guard and tackle. A 3-technique tackle is supposed to run through his gap immediately. He is a 1-gap player. His job is not to block or get tied up in a block, but rather to be athletic and get himself into the offensive backfield and disrupt their plans. Because of this a 3-technique tackle is a lighter more athletic guy than a nose tackle, typically weighing more like 290 to 300 pounds.
Coleman said he was 100% going to Auburn.
ReplyDeleteWhat part of that do you not understand?
Amen, Digger.
ReplyDeletethe 17/18 year old kid part
ReplyDeleteInterestingly enough, we had this same nonsense happen with a Coleman last year.
ReplyDeleteOh somewhere between the 100 and the % I got it.
ReplyDeleteHow is that Coleman doing in JUCO? Anyone keeping up with him?
ReplyDeleteHeard he had a great year last year and is going to redshirt this year. He will have 3 years remaining.
ReplyDeleteBTW Dear Leader I am just joking around.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea where Coleman will go just remember his last words on the subject.
Just stopping by to say War Eagle!
ReplyDeleteSame to ya WEG
ReplyDeleteMust work to afford to pay for tickets to watch these kids......
ReplyDeleteAight, kids it's been fun. Gotta run my pooch to the vet. See y'all later.
ReplyDeleteIt's hotter than two CH's=b in a wool sock
ReplyDeleteThis is huge. I consider DT to be our biggest remaining area of need, even if we lose one OL commit. The other DT we have committed is rumored to have grade issues. I think our biggest need is still one more DT assuming we sign the other commits.
ReplyDeleteSTEVE!!!! What's up guy!
ReplyDeleteI updated the blog with fully transcribed quotes.
ReplyDeleteand I read them. Thanks, JGT!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHellooooooo Steve!!!
Hi Folks. I am in a mad dash of bug removal at the same time that recruiting is rapping up. It is frustrating.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are back Steve.
ReplyDeleteyabbadabbadoooooooooooo!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update JGT! Right now I'm pondering on what to do for lunch, all weekend my minds been craving Jason's deli, but I don't want to venture out into the snow and ice. Curses!
ReplyDeleteI can't recall the name of the other DT commit at the moment, but I heard he hadn't made his ACT score, but was going to take the test a couple more times.
ReplyDeleteSteve- Kenneth Carter?
ReplyDeleteYes, that is the name. Does anyone know more? I only saw it in one post and I don't recall where. It could have been the bleacher report, the authority on everything.
ReplyDeleteSteve- Rumor has it that he may not qualify. Not sure of the validity of the rumor, but it's out there by several.
ReplyDeletehow many minds have you, LGG Byron?
ReplyDeleteTHT about 4, though 1 seems to be on vacation far too often.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I'm actually going to get some work done now. See you at the dinner table.
ReplyDeleteoops, maybe not just yet. JGT is still adding quotes!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if Lattimore's announcement will be U-Streamed?
ReplyDeleteIf so, I want to see the back of JGT's head!!!
...with his HABOTN lid on Trooper-style.
ReplyDeleteDid everybody see the commenters going nuts when the guy was standing in front of the camera during the Whitaker announcement? I wonder if somebody finally told him to sit down.
ReplyDeleteKenneth Carter. Not to get too deep into this issue, but I was told by 2 teachers at his school, where I travel about to about 2x per month. (I do business with the school) that he should make it. Now, I do not keep up with the grade issues of kids so I am not the expert. I can only go by what they say.
ReplyDeleteI saw an article on the bleacher report that said Lattimore wouldn't come to Auburn because he is announcing at his church in South Carolina. You just can't argue with that logic.
ReplyDeleteThe next DT to commit will be Bryan Jones. He called CHizik last night also to let them know he was coming.
ReplyDeleteHe wasn't the only call Chizik got last night either.
When we get Jones, we will be fine at the DT spot. What is the next big area of need, DB? We could definitely use another RB, but DB seems to be iffy depending upon Etheridge and Savage and how things work out with them.
ReplyDeleteMaybe his church is a place that he feels safe, and, since he is making the controversial decision to attend Auburn, he wanted to be someplace safe. Surely they won't boo him at a church, right?
ReplyDeleteSee, you can easily argue with that logic. :)
ReplyDeleteSteve ...maybe he's announcing in a church because it would be extra sinful to harm a young man in a church after he's just announced he's going out of state.
ReplyDeleteDoes that work for you? Works for me.
PF ... Great minds.
ReplyDeleteJet and Peter. Same page.
ReplyDeleteWould you like to explain a little further there WTC?
ReplyDeleteDoes that make you Jeter?
ReplyDeleteYankees suck.
ReplyDeleteGet some.
WTC's mom hasn't told him everything yet.
ReplyDeleteShe's told him the birds, but not the bees.
Look for AU to take the Swilling (6'3"-213lb safety)kid after signing day. Especially if Howard leaves for another school.
ReplyDeleteI think we could definitely use another DB or two....according to rivals "recruiting experts"....SC is a lock with Latt....they say it's not that bad for Auburn though because Latt tends to go down easy...but either way I feel like we have plenty of potential in the backfield!
ReplyDeleteSunday was a day to shore up everybody on your list. AU coaches not only shored it up, they got more than they were looking for.
ReplyDeleteThe feel REALLY confident in their list and also mayhave a surprise before it is all over. When Rivals gives the list out on Thursday, don't give up on the rankings yet. AU could have a few things happening after signing day.
That's pretty big for a HS safety, isn't it? If (when) he grows and gets bigger, does he stay at S?
ReplyDeleteWell I honestly don't care when they commit...as long as we can get the quality players we need to compete at the same level if not higher than we did in 2004 on both sides of the ball!
ReplyDeleteMy mom just told me that I am a disappointment to her and she is glad the president is canceling the program I work for.
ReplyDeleteDarn it, mom!
After Lattimore, Jones, Lemonier, and Coleman sign, we'll have 27, leaving room for Swilling if Howard goes elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteThen the coaches get to sort out who the 25 are that actually get schollies this summer/fall.
Michael, tell her, "Look, Mom, I'm King of Eurasia. Show me some regal respect."
ReplyDeleteMichael ... Tell her she's the Queen Mother.
ReplyDeleteShe just spit in my face.
ReplyDeleteYour suggestions are not helping!
I won!

Unless we were to have several players change their mind at a key position, like the linemen, we should be fine with what we have now. I would like to see more depth at DB and RB, but we won't be in the fire drill situation we were last season.
ReplyDeleteThere is also the wide receivers, some of which can play DB or RB. I think we actually have more wide receiver commits than we need, but they are all quality recruits, so that works for me.
PF, I guess since you think (rightly) that the Yankees suck, you and Jet will not be merging. That's probably a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a Yankees fan, but I, too, do not want a merger with PF. Don't read my official visit to his neighborhood this weekend as an indication that we will merge forces.
ReplyDeleteI thought spit in the face was a show of respect in that distant corner of Eurasia from which Mom hails.
ReplyDeleteI thought Michael's mother was not from Eurasia, but rather she was from Nagistan.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to SC with the idea of streaming the announcement. May or may not work because my internet connection at that point will be a Sprint 3G wireless card. May not be good for video.
ReplyDeleteI think wtc's mom is from Mymomisbad.
ReplyDeleteFSJ-I find it odd that UAt has now got 7 db's committed. I am hearing something is up with some of them. what say you?
ReplyDeleteBro Jet,
ReplyDeleteLoved the Night Before Recruitmas. You are very clever & creative. You might have another career if you lose your day job.
JGT, if you get someone's head in the way, make sure it's a good-looking female.
ReplyDeleteHerndon has an al.com article up saying Lattimore may not be the best back, but he is great as a receiver. I thought that interesting.
ReplyDeleteYou got to admire someone that beats the crap out of a shark with a body board.
ReplyDeleteProof that Darwin's theory of evolution works.
ReplyDeletehotties,
ReplyDeletewhat's the problem when the mouse/cursor stays glued to the right edge of the monitor?
THT,
ReplyDeleteIs it wireless? Mine does that when the battery is dead.
Herndon has an al.com article up saying Lattimore may not be the best back, but he is great as a receiver. I thought that interesting.
ReplyDeleteThat's in response to a question I asked Luginbill. I have all that information on the blog front.
Sorry Jay, missed that.
ReplyDeleteIf WTC's mom heard correctly while eavesdropping on the coaches-recruits Sunday evening conversations ....AU is headed to a #2 or 3 recruiting class.
ReplyDeleteMore importantly ..these seem to be the kids that the coaches want, probably all will qualify and they fill our needs as well as possible.
What else is there?
If WTC's mom is right, then Turfman was right and the scouting services are wrong on several accounts.
If all turns out like Mama WTC says then I think we need to send her some flowers for her good work.
ReplyDeleteI think we have a shot at #3, but Texas seems to be pretty solid at #2. Nobody will overtake Florida for #1.
ReplyDeleteIf we do get everyone we want there won't be room for anyone after signing day.
ReplyDeleteAcutally the recruiting news I've been reading have been saying that all of UF's recruits are de-committing, and are committing to be grayshirts at Auburn.
ReplyDeleteOf course I wrote that news myself.
Cecil Hurt on F-baum: If Alabama decides to offer Shon Coleman a scholarship, they will get him.
ReplyDeleteCincy - short answer...the problem is I'm stuck on a PC at work and not a Mac.
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't happen on a Mac. I had to reboot the computer to get the mouse/cursor unstuck. There was no inherent problem with the mouse.
AAAARRGGHHH- looks like lil ol Auburn is going to have to settle for a UAT reject. boo hoo.
ReplyDeleteJG, you driving through Knoxville on the way to/from South Carolina? if so holla.
ReplyDeleteCecil Hurt is the HOMER of all HOMERS. Might as well ask Shane what he thinks while they are at it.
ReplyDeleteHurt is full of it. He has an offer. Why would a 5* lineman not have an offer if you are looking for a lineman?
ReplyDeleteYeah I guess we will have to settle for all the rejects that put us in the top 3. When you look at it I will take rejects all day.
ReplyDeleteAll American Rejects? sounds like a band.
ReplyDeleteTHT, your issue is likely the OS. Get Linux.
ReplyDeleteScottie, you have no idea what your talking about. That would be a stupid name for a band. Who would listen to a band called the All American Rejects. No one likes rejects.
ReplyDeleteGo sit in the corner.
off to the corner i go. later hotties!
ReplyDeleteCH=B, coaches don't go by the star ratings. Also, Coleman wasn't nearly as good of a player a month ago when he was four stars.
ReplyDeleteDo I need to send the Finebaum chart out again?
ReplyDeleteCecil Hurt...pffft...anybody with a name like that...well, his name probably describes his whole athletic career.
Oh my bad I forgot. When he started at 3*'s he could barely walk and chew gum.
ReplyDeleteHere's a really good story on Lattimore.
ReplyDeleteBoom.
ReplyDeletetoo soon?
ReplyDeleteI have seen people use the term "commitable offer" versus "offer". Is there something I am missing here? Is an offer not an offer or is it an offer to consider offering you a commitable offer? Seems strange to me. From what I hear, the evil was only offering an offer before, but now they are offering a commitable offer. Am I crazy or have I drifted off into Bambi land.
ReplyDeleteWow....JG I would say that he posses the quality personality of an Auburn Man!
ReplyDeleteSteve ...
ReplyDeleteI figured it out ... it's like junior high school. The offer is when you send a friend to talk to the hot cheerleader. If Norm were to ask you to homecoming with him, would go you go? That is an offer.
When Norm mans up and goes and talk to the hot cheerleader and asks her to go to homecoming, that is a committable offer.
Unfortunately, the hot cheerleader told Norm she was taking visits and would let him know later. He's still waiting.
