Baseball surges into SEC play

Hey everyone. Auburn's baseball team, which hasn't qualified for the postseason in a while, opened Southeastern Conference play with surprising power this weekend.

The Tigers swept a three-game set at Georgia.

And it wasn't just a sweep. Auburn won by an aggregate score of 43-9.

HABOTN HITTER OF THE WEEKEND®:
Hunter Morris, 1B ... finished 10-for-16 with 14 RBIs.

HABOTN PICTHER OF THE WEEKEND®:
LHP Corey Luckie (Prattville High graduate) ... allowed one run in seven innings pitched on Friday, striking out seven batters and walking only one.

HABOTN NOTABLE PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEKEND®:
OF/RHP Justin Bryant goes 4-for-6 with 8 RBIs on Friday.

Auburn now is 14-5 overall and 3-0 in the league. The team plays at home next weekend against South Carolina.

  2. missinit,

I would've stood up and walked out.

  3. Sure makes it look better than years past. Hope they can keep it up.

  4. Missinit - I encountered them all the way over in Vancouver, WA around this time last year.

  8. This is beautiful. Absolutely b-e-a-utiful.

  9. That was crazy long ago. I was still in school going to games then. Paws is gonna make something out of this team. I can feel it.

Only 7 pitchers for the weekend(UGA used 6 today), including an awesome long relief appearance by Hubbard yesterday.

Hunter Morris should get a plaque for his hitting.

  10. Stats now posted to the blog.

    ReplyDelete
  11. That stat Jay posted where Morris was 10-13 with 15? RBI is amazing. Any early thoughts on this coming weekend and SC?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Wells, he actually was 10-for-16 with the 14RBIs.

Still an outstanding weekend, but maybe not as good as I initially reported. Sorry about that.

  13. What matters in the end is the outstanding part. Your reporting is always that, Jay.

  14. Gump Classic vs Bama is rescheduled for this week,no?

Providing there's no basketball coach boarding a plane for Auburn that day, is there any chance our resident bloggist will be covering it?

  15. Hi Hotties! Great job by the baseball team!

Well, my bracket is totally wrecked. Three of my final four are out! I started out so good!! But it does make me at least a little interested in the games.

How long do you think before we have a basketball coach?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Gump classic is scheduled for Wednesday night... I plan to be there.

  17. I hate to say this... but I will be a big Tennessee fan in the sweet 16. My bracket depends on it.

I also need 'Cuse to lose.

I concur. I tried watching some of the debate, but I had to change the channel. Raised my blood pressure too much.

  24. Remember this date in history... as the day this administration destroyed the very foundation of this country. Sad day... embarrassing.

  25. Solid analysis, Jet.
PF- agreed. 54% of Americans disagree with this bill as per a recent Gallup poll. Yet it passes?

This is my only political comment per respect to Jay's rules.

  27. I don't know if it has been discussed, but it appears Bryce Brown and UT may be experiencing problems in their relationship.

    That is a shocker.

any more condo shopping this week? what do you lack?

  33. How are the Bryce Brown and Tyrik Rollison situations different today? Both were highly ranked recruits with lots of promise who shocked a lot of people with their choice in school. Both randomly decided to leave their teams when the competition at their positions suddenly became. Both were convinced to stay in school through te end of the semester. Both lack a concrete plan. Both appear to be in situations where they could (and might) change their mind. The only major difference is that Bryce Brown had a handler who made him look like a jackass during the recruiting process.

  34. Went to the game Saturday with my UGA son and my up and coming AU baseball nephew, and had a great time. I never realized that baseball was that popular in Athens the stadium was absolutely packed! Got a little interesting when our pitchers stopped throwing strikes in the middle innings. And the homerun shot was incredible! One of those screaming line drive shots that probably would have hit their student union if it hadn't been for all those trees ooutside the stadium. My nephew now wants to go see a game in Auburn, so I have to figure out which one to go to there.

  35. Regarding the Michigan-ND game this upcoming season:

"It will be the first-ever primetime game played at home in the history of Michigan football."

    I find that incredible.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ehyou, is that for any Michigan game or just the ND game?

  37. Morning HOtties!

    Back to the ole grind!

A WS title would make a nice going-away present for Bobby.

  45. Auburn out scored a young UGA(ly) 43-9 over the weekend.

They won all 5 games this week by a composite score of 72-10.

I don't care about that we were playing the little blind sisters of the poor all week, THAT IS AN IMPRESSIVE WEEK.

    Way to bounce back guys!!!!!!

Considering AU usually starts out 1-5 or worse in confernce, this is a massively great start in the march to Hoover and then to the regionals, then to the super regionals and then on to Omaha, YEAH!!!!! (Howard Dean style).

    ReplyDelete
  46. Did you tap into line 2? They're probably wondering why he didn't renew his ticket contract.

  47. Baseball talk on the HABOTN warms my heart.

  48. I watched the "One shining moment' from 2003 on youtube. It has Auburn in the clips.

It was a strange and wonderful feeling to see that.

  49. The Tampa Bay Rays call me every week wanting me to buy season tickets. They don't get that I am poor.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hey, Hotties!

I'm back from various family matters. It's great to return to find impressive Tiger baseball victories.

War Eagle, and I hope we all have a good week.

  52. I get calls, letters and emails from all sorts of organizations wanting my $ but Tampa Bay's not one of them. Way back when when Clinton was about to be impeached, I faxed (I guess I didn't have personal email then) 100% of The House of Representatives. Since political discussions are frowned on here, I won't bother with the gist of my message but the result for me personally was that I was added to a ridiculous amount of lists for Congress people and PACs wanting my hard earned money. None of them got it either.

Good for him for finding a job. Good luck to him.

  64. good for Lebo. i hope he does well.

Miller, i'd hit you up if i were online. i know, i know, i suck. i'm bootlegging free wireless at the house right now. :) gotta love it.

  65. East Carolina is an outlier on the Conference USA footprint ... I would imagine it would be tough to win there.

There are other schools in the Carolinas that have just as easy access to the Big Dance and could allow families the opportunity to see their kids play.

But I would imagine ECU would pay a little more than some of those schools.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'm a big, big fan of Keebler Club crackers.

    The more you know...

  67. If you're bootlegging free wireless you should ve able to get online. Quit slacking!
