Alabama def. Auburn, 73-61
Hey everyone. Alabama beat the Tigers today in a sloppy game.
The two teams combined for 33 turnovers and 31 missed threes.
We now believe Auburn will go into the SEC Tournament as a 5 seed, which means it'll be a 6:30 CST game in Cashville against Florida.
I talked with coach Jeff Lebo privately after the game. He offered little in terms of his job security, simply saying 100 percent of his effort is being directed toward the SEC Tournament.
He's planning to discuss everything else with Jay Jacobs after the season.
In this space earlier was a Campfire®. Thanks to E-Bro, Cincy, riskman, Jet, j-z, stupup, AUFan365 and DMiller for going the distance.

No the conversation stopper of all time.
Real Fans vs. Sidewalk Fans.
Well, that didn't turn out like I had hoped :(
the good news for today is the Penguins overcame a 3-1 deficit to whip the Stars 6-3. The HABOTN's favorite Penguin, Sidney Crosby, had two goals.
Let's hope the baseball game turns out better than that debacle...
Well....I'm shocked that we pulled one out.
re: he offered little terms of his job security...
Monsieur Tate, I believe it is the majority opinion (hope?) of the HABOTN that there is none to be offered.
Jay sorry I could not stay for the chat. I was obligated to go to a wedding. Wasn't very long thanks goodness. When to bad teams play most of the time you get a bad game. So be it.
I think Lebo is going to make it.
At least the baseball tigers are smacking the ball around today...
You are probably right Jay. Basketball just isn't a big deal to the powers that be. If it were they would have done something about it a long time ago. I had hoped that after spending all that money on a new arena they would see it differently. If they keep Lebo I would say not.
Lebo will probably get one year for his steering of the ship called Auburn basketball when it was once mired in probation and confusion.
Let us face it next years team will be terrible. Even if we went down to Brantley, Alabama and signed every Person relative in town to a scholarship. We lose 5 seniors, seniors what werent great but they have been all we have had the past four years.
Lebo for not getting in trouble or putting up with crap, gets one year. Thats it.
While on a break, I'd like to say I've had more fun at the dentist then this engagement encounter retreat.
I snicker because pat dye's liver probably really hates his wild turkey nowadays.
Today couldn't have been worse.
Stupup... baseball could'vee lost too... that would have made it worse. But, they smoked Miami (OH)...
Fletcher is on fire! Smoke coming out of his ears on fire!
digger, I disagree that the powers to be don't care about basketball I only have $92 million reasons to believe they do.
My team won 1st runner up in the Chili Cook-Off today in Homewood. 2nd out of 75 is pretty good. We had a lot of fun. Maybe next year some of you guys can come.
Congrats CH=B!
The #2 AU Equestrian team defeated #1 UGA today 12-6!
West Ham lost at home today to Bolton. Not exactly the way LGG Byron hoped it would turn out. He's headed over to the British Museum tomorrow.
2.0 has made travel plans for the end of this month to Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, then down to visit friends in Skopje, Macedonia before heading to her one week course in London.
I've made travel plans, too. Wednesday morning I'll trek to the curb with the trash can. Something is very wrong with this picture.
GREAT news, Miller! That sure would have been a better live blog than the bball game today.
I was speaking in a strictly basketball sense.
It sounds like the baseball team is getting it together.
I saw Terry Bowden at Walmart (in Florence) today. He's even fatter in person.
Miller ...
Did the students storm the Equestrian course? Or were they scared by the horse poop?
Just returned from a lovely meal at Volares at the Opryland Hotel. And then back to the hotel for Graeter's ice cream that my friend brought with her from Cincinnati - she brought me 15 pints!
CH=B - great job on the chili cook-off! I will come if I am in town next year.
scoats - I've stomped that Wal-Mart many a time. Never saw anyone famous though :)
Great news on Equestrian and baseball.
Have a great night everyone!!
Jet,
No one stormed the arena... Auburn fans know better... Been there done that attitude.
Miller,
Did you go to the equestrian meet? The friend I am spending the weekend with has a daughter that competed in Hunt Seat. Very interesting sport.
Patrick Dempsey is a mensch. I wanted to tell him that today, but it appears that the fact that he's a race car driver has been fiigured out by fans of his acting, and his life at the track has become a zoo. Very different than when my father-in-law was able to have a lengthy conversation with him two years ago, when he was just another anonymous driver who had yet to have any success. Oh well.
I remember when that Wal-Mart was first built. It was the largest in America for a few months.
Good morning Hotties, good work by the equestrian and baseball teams this weekend. Hopefully baseball can complete the sweep today. Looks like it could be a good year.
I think we are close to getting two football commitments. One from Danny Woodson Jr. and the other from Demetrius Hart. Hart is down to us and UF right now. Both players could be highly rated in the next few months.
Heading to the zoo this morning with the FAUWG. Talk to you guys later.
One more thing about the bball team before I go. A lot of people are down on the team and Lebo. Some of it is deserved, but not all of it. Most critics (many that don't know basketball or even watch half the games)say that in his 6th season with a lot of senior starters that Lebo should have done better. I have a point in the other direction that no one has talked about. The experts and sports writers all had Auburn finishing last in the west this year. That just further some of my previous post that this team lacks talent. So in one way you could say that Auburn has overachieved this year. Now with that said I'm not happy with where the team is right now, but I completely understand the handcuffs that were placed on Lebo ( the same for any coach that would have been hired).
Worked in the yard before and after the game yesterday ... can barely move today.
Hey digger...
Have you read the Gadsden newspaper this morning?
I think you were pictured in the bammerfest that was downtown yesterday for Terrence Cody.
Just kidding. I can't believe that many people will line up like that just to get an autograph.
FSJ you are definiley kidding. I was no where near there. I spen t most of the afternoon at a wedding at Noccalula Falls. Hope you got your autograph.
CH=B I am not a big fan of Basketball but I do follow most Auburn sports, at least to the point of knowing the scores. I pulled for Lebo and hoped he would at least make us competitive. I do not understand Basketball recruiting and all the ins and outs of AAU, etc. If this is a problem then Auburn and other schools should be up in arms to get it corrected. My statement earlier addressed my feelings on the new arena.
The Equestrian team lists FORTY members on its roster. Their scholarships must be worth about $10 each. (ok, I just googled, NCAA allows 15 scholarships in equestrian)
Jorge Portela's daughter is a freshman AU Equestrian.
Replay of last week's gymnastics meet vs UF on SunSports right now for you Florida dwelling gymnasties.
Digger, so you don't feel that a $92mil arena shows a change in the mindset of the powers to be?
Where is everyone today? I post this morning, go to the zoo and comeback and only handful of new posts.
I'm here CHB and more or less agree with you about the stuff you said earlier.
I'm definitely not happy with the present state of things, but I do think people have probably jumped on this team more than it's deserved.
Certainly, a team that finishes 6-10 and tied for 4th in the West deserves some criticism (if we had won yesterday, we would have gotten the three seed), but at times, this team has been treated as if it is the worst basketball team ever.
This team doesn't always play intelligently, but they do play hard and are competitive in just about every game, barring Tennessee and the last ten minutes of yesterday's game.
That said, if Lebo is returning next year, he better show something significant that gives me hope for the future. I don't expect a Tourney run or anything next year, but give me something to look forward to other than just a new arena.
By the way, I have a tremendous amount of respect for Alabama University.
My point is and has aways been that Lebo has had his opprtunity and muffed it. IF they keep him there is doubt in my mind that they are really taking basketball serious. New arena says they are their actions say not so much.
Lebo should not make it
Whether or not Lebo stays/goes I am an Auburn fan and will continue to pull for our team. I will support them win or lose.
I'm with you ebro.
I am convinced Lebo will stay. He is the dude. Not many realize, but many Polish people shorten their names to hide their ancestry. Lebo's real last name is Lebowsky.
Hence forth Lebo will forever be known as "The Dude".
I love running across people with inside sources contacts after the fact. I offer you this little gem.
Source confirms that Mississippi State is waiting in the wings and is prepared to throw 3 million plus at Tuberville. At this point, the source is not sure that Tuberville would take the MSU job. On Ed Orgeron, source says that Orgeron will DECLINE an offer to join Lane Kiffin's staff at Tennessee. Another school in the SEC is pursuing Orgeron hard.
This is another little gem.
What a DISGRACE and sad day for AU
This is a nightmare. I'm truly saddened beyond belief that this idiot JACOBS has hired Chizik. What a horrible day this has been. Jay Jacobs should be fired.
That was from an Auburn Undercover comment. You got to love these people.
Jay, I do think it would be a great story to compare comments to the Chizik hire to the results. There are some outstanding opinions out there that should be aired.
CH=B Now there is something we can agree on. I became an Auburn fan my first year there 1952 and have been steadfast in my loyalty to all that is AUBURN. Having grown up in Atlanta I was a Ga. Tech fan in the early years. How I became an Auburn student was simple, one visit and I was hooked.
I still don't have a problem with people questioning the hire of a 5-19 coach. It's worked out so far. The administration appears smarter than the fans on such things. Big deal.
I find it hilarious. People that don't know make a complete idiot of themselves. It tickles the crap out of me.
Personally, I wasn't a fan or critic of the hire. I just said wait and see what he does.
I do find it hilarious that people make such definitive statements without having a clue in terms of what they are talking about. They say Jay Jacobs should be fired because of the Chizik hire? Really? Simply hilarious.
I could clean up my office or I could go on to bed. Yes, it's only 7:30 pm, but given those options, I think I should go on to bed.
Sweet AU dreams, Hotties!
Time for Oscars.
Jeff Bridges needs to win Best Actor. After that, it's window dressing.
I didn't see his nominated movie but I'm certainly willing to take your word for it.
"Weary Kind" also needed to win Best Song...and it did.
I'm sure the Dude has this one in the bag. He abides.
I guess I am the only one that could give a rip about the Oscars....
I only saw "The Blind Side' and "Inglorious Basterds" out of this year's nominated films.
Blind Side was a heartwarming story and SBullock did a nice job and could possibly win, but the film as a whole isn't worthy of the Best Film award.
Inglorious Basterds was Tatantino at his best. A great story with memorable scenes, outstanding acting and genious, unorthodox directing. Taratino brings out comedy, emotion and suspense all in the same scene and does such multiple times in the movie.
Jeff Bridges always seems to play the same type roll.
Saw Avatar. Went in without preconceived notions and was pretty well blown away.
Hurt Locker was intense. Don't know that I saw much else, except Crazy Heart, that was in contention for awards.
Few of my personal favs this year were Adventureland and 500 Days of Summer. Haven't seen a whole lot, though.
The only 2 movies I have seen this year were Blindside and Julie & Julia. Guess we have been too busy to go to the movie!
Not sure if this is a compliment or not, but my family thinks I could have played the Sandra Bullock character in Blindside. I don't think I am that intense :) But that woman did have some cojones!
Great, someone had to bring a racial tone to the awards!!
It's been 5 years, two months and two weeks since I've seen a movie in a theater.
So what movie made you swear off movies, Jet? Was it that good, or that bad?
For me it was the $10 a ticket. I love movies just not in the theater. I love Netflix.
Given the opportunity, I enjoy going to the moving picture show. F4* is at his grandparents for a few days. So, Hot Wife and I had the weekend to ourselves. Going to a movie was mentioned but didn't happen. She worked on a presentation and I watched something I'd recorded. Anyway, I saw Blind Side and Avatar of those nominated. I definitely enjoyed Blind Side and thought Avatar was overrated but technologically amazing. I probably paid to see something else over the last several months but they were apparently forgetful.
Cincy ... we saw Lemony Snicket when the kids were younger ... Stewardess was reading the books at the time. It was Christmas Eve, and we were killing time.
The last movie I went to see that I wanted to see was Big Fish, which was cool because I was filmed in the neighborhood in which I grew up (Cloverdale), and in the town I was living at the time (Wetumpka).
I just like the control of giving up on a movie at home if I don't like it.
The Dude wins!
Good morning, Hotties!!!
WARRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
Y'all actually watch those award shows? Points lossed. I didn't think to ask MrsTHT before we got engaged if she liked awards shows or not. Thankfully, she never watches them, either.
I'm off to Bammer Bernie's stomping grounds. Y'all have a great Monday!
Morning folks.
Jet I saw that movie too when my version of Stewardess was reading those books. As I recall, I don't think I hated it. I saw Big Fish at a theater in San Diego. Since you like having the control over movies at home, use the ultimate in control and do not, DO NOT watch even one second of "Revolutionary Road". Horrible. HOR - RI - BLE. You've all been warned.
Good morning, Hotties! Why do the weekends always go so fast?
I don't go to the movies simply because they aren't worth what it costs to see them in the theater. Besides, they come out on VOD in a few months after their release and I can pay less than half and watch it in the comfort of my own home. Also, I'm not a big movie person. If you ask me if I've seen a movie, chances are good that I haven't.
Tar Heel, it sounds like MrsTHT and I have a lot in common.
THT ...
I watched the last 30 minutes to see who won best actor/actress.
We went to bed after Ben Stiller did his shtick. Getting up @5:15 means we don't see the end of these events
Good morning, Hotties!
Had a great weekend in Nashville, but Jet, all that yard work you did over the weekend - I have to do that this afternoon. Gotta pay for playing :)
Off to Bible study - y'all have fun!
Movies are so rarely good, I don't even try anymore. I'd rather spend my 2 hrs watching one of my faves for the umpteenth time.
Back after a short weekend trip to Disney. Had a blast, but legs feel like Jello after all the walking and the 5 miles runs each day.
As for the Oscars, as a guy that wakes up at 4am, I should have not stayed up for it, but I did. Glad Hurt Locker won and the Dude won. Dude seemed...a little high in his acceptance. It was great.
