Practice report, 4/19
Hey everyone. Auburn's final spring practice has ended. Here's what we learned today:
- Coach Gene Chizik said nothing new about the quarterbacks.
- Chizik said Auburn may make a decision at quarterback tomorrow, during the early summer months, in the middle of the summer, at the end of the summer or during two-a-days.
- Chizik said news from the Shon Coleman front has been positive during the past 10 days. It's possible that Coleman will report with the other signees this summer.
- Coleman's mother, DeKeishia Tunstall, posted on her Facebook page Friday that her son was back in a Memphis hospital due to low sodium levels.
- Chizik said he has spoken occasionally with QB Tyrik Rollison. The coach said Auburn will make Rollison's intentions clear at semester's end ... but curiously didn't rule out the possibility of Rollison returning. I still consider than a 1-in-1,000 shot.
- Chizik said the plan to move Daren Bates, who currently is out with a shoulder injury, is in tact. He's expected to play linebacker next year. I get the sense it'll be a hybrid deal ... mostly linebacker, some nickel, some safety.
- QB Clint Moseley (left), as I wrote the other day, still feels like he's not really in the mix at No. 1 quarterback right now. Some people believe he'll transfer. He said today: "Why would I ever leave Auburn? I'm on full scholarship at an SEC school. It's my dream."
- Assistant coach Curtis Luper said he carefully watched TB Mario Fannin this spring for signs of tentativeness considering his injury-riddled past. Luper didn't see it. "He doesn't shy away. He's a complete back. He's naturally inclined to hit 'em in the mouth."
- DE Antoine Carter said he has taken up Mike Blanc's offer to go to Haiti. They're going next month. Blanc, if you recall, said nobody aside from Mike McNeil would make that trip. Carter said several players are going ... including Cam Newton.
- Of the trip, Carter said: "It's going to be like a mission trip. We're going to build stuff ... build it back up."
- Carter said he's headed to Birmingham on Friday to consult with a tattoo-removal specialist. He wants to have the "HOT BOY" tattoos removed from his face. "It was a bad childhood mistake and it's time to get it fixed," he said.

Dang it! I wanted to go for a Sonic Boom on the flip.
Cincy, it was sometime between 7:30 and 8:00.
I thought I smelled something pleasant.
Was happy to realize I had not backed into the garage door!
that's cool Cincy. i would've loved to hang with those guys for a couple hours.
i met a lot of guys during the day but chatted for several minutes with Tommy Trott & Chris Todd at Kinnucan's saturday morning. Todd tried to steal my sharpie after signing some stuff for some kids. i wouldn't let that stand. they were nice fellas. ;)
I get that a lot Steve.
Why thank you norm. I did take a shower this morning.
Maybe Seanzie broke the sound barrier and I was the sonic boom, so...BOOM!
By the way, although I generally operate below the sound barrier, I am quick enough to figure out where JGT's articles are located. I was just wondering why he doesn't link them anymore. I thought maybe The Man was giving him some trouble.
It seems like you're having trouble ChocoScott.
Try this
oh, i meant to tell yall i met the infamous PPL saturday. he & Travante Stallworth were chillin' on the wall in the south endzone before a-day started. we sat on the first row for the game.
ehyou, that's hilarious.
Well, I was trying to make the point that I'm not having trouble, but that was still pretty dang funny.
Scottie, I was pacing the sidelines right in front of them for a few minutes. I tried my best to match their dancing skills during warm ups, but to no avail.
well crap Wells, you missed me then. why didn't you say hi? punk.
j/k.
Phils @ Braves
Hawks playoff game
NFL schedule released
Not bad for a random tuesday in april.
Jay G,
From listening to your Hatin' segment last Friday, what's the over/under on when there will be no more HABOTN and you move on from the Gump?
ehyou,
And it is 50 cent hotdog night at Plainsman Park. Which is good if you like hotdogs...
well, off to the gym. laterz.
No more HABOTN? Who would want to live in a world without HABOTN? What did people do before HABOTN? I have no idea.
They went to al.com. *shudder*
I will not go to al.com for my AU substance.
HABOTN is 4EVER, and don't none of you puppets forget it!
Top Gun!
"I WAS IN THE POOL"
G, is the HABOTN your property or property of the man?
According to Evan Woodbery, the new decal on Auburn's helmet is indeed 5/8 of an inch larger than the previous decal. It is still in the testing phase and no decision has been made. Apparently the thought is it will make it easier to see on TV.
ehyou - how could you forget the 5 NHL games going on tonight?
Cincy, you're making me hungry.
a couple of hot dogs would be great right now during 2nd intermission.
habotn.com belongs to Domain Owner Tate.
I think the new logo looks great on the newer helmets (revolution, etc), which, to me look like they have a little bigger crown.
It does look a touch out of balance on the more traditional riddell and adams helmets.
logo = decal in my previous post.
F4*, Hot Wife and I just returned from Tiger Trek. It was a good time. Got all the autographs from Chiz, Barbee and some former players (most notable IMO; Brandon Cox and Wayne Bylsma) and of course Aubie. Since F4* was with us, didn't get to hang around long enough to listen to the speechifying but it was fun. If it comes near you, you should go.
You know what's my favorite kind of hot dog? A $0.50 hot dog.
Cool beans Norm. Seeing players and coaches is always fun. Did you see any Hotties?
ehyou - I saw more than a few attractive women but I believe I was the only representative of HABOTN. From what I've been told previously at least, no one else local to the area was planning to go.
AU 14
Troy 2
Top of 8th. Hunter Morris with 2 HR and 5 rbi.
Norm ...
Benedryl is a good strategy.
Good goobedy goo. Heyward does it again.
Jason Heyward is amazing!!! Braves tied up in bottom of 9th
Jet - I'm not fundamentally opposed but the time and place just weren't right for that.
I'm really rooting for Gerhart to do well in the NFL. I'm sure part of it is because he is a "white" running back, but I like the guy. Look at his numbers and size and what isn't to like. Plus he is a very smart guy. I think some NFL is going to get a great and productive back.

Final
AU 16
Troy 3
This Heyward kid has some promise.
Son of a gun. What a finish for the Braves.
Braves win after going scoreless after 8 innings!
I love baseball!!!
I only got to see it from bottom of the 8th on, but boy what a game for the Braves.
JayHey!
The Braves are just setting me up for failure. Must. Resist. BELIEVING!
Go Giants!!!
C'mon, WDCWE, give in, believe!!!
That Braves game was....AWESOME!!
We may be getting our first BB commitment on Thursday. Langford out of Huntsville is thought to favor Auburn. He is a pretty darn good player and from Al. It would also go a long way in the recruitment of his cousin who plays for the same high school. Oh by the way his cousin is a 6'7" PG.
Will not having a starting QB named affect the off season workouts? It would seem it would be better to have a starting QB that everyone knew was the man. Of course, it is possible the team already knows.
In the Music City... after 2
Predators 3
Blackhawks 1
CH ...
Not "may."
"Will."
we've got about 136 days til kickoff.
how long before they announce the next basketball schedule?
Steve-I would say they already know. Not by anyone telling them, but as a player, you know a coach doesn't bring in a JUCO to ride the pine, especially at QB.
That is my opinion. I guess they haven't told anyone. If they had, one of the players would have leaked it.
Avs down 1-0 at the end of the first period.
:(
wtc, I tend to agree. I think the battle is between Caudle and Trotter for the backup spot. I have wondered if Caudle got so many throws because they wanted him to INT his way out of the QB competition.
Glad we weren't playing WKU tonight in baseball! They just beat Kentucky 24-8... WKU was up 22-1 in the 3rd inning!!
Anyone ever done one of those Muddy Buddy races? I think I'm doing one in two weeks. Gotta whip myself into shape.
I saw that Gerhart article. Discrimination in any form is repugnant. If I were in his shoes I would have walked out of the interview and called my lawyer.
G'morning Hot Ones!
It's time to rise and shine!!
WAR EAGLE!!!
Where in the world might 2.0 be today?
Wherever it is, I'd imagine it's hard to beat Watts Bar Nuclear Plant at 6:30 in the morning.
2.0 is heading back to London tonight for an early flight HOME tomorrow morning. If all goes according to plan (and flights home rarely do) she should be home around 2 pm tomorrow.
Ah yes, Watts Bar...
I may need to go to Confession this morning.
I didn't stay up until all the hockey was over last night. Sorry about the Avs, E-Bro
Sounds great. And just in time for European skies to open back up for business. It sounds like people with current tickets will still get a preference over delayed passengers, especially on the long-haul flights.
Hopefully she gets home without too much trouble.
Yeah, I've got a feeling I may be shifting all of my hockey interests to the Preds after another couple of days or so.
Good morning all.
Nova, I agree about Gerhart. If a black RB would have been asked questions about his race it would have been all over FoxNews and CNN. Jessie Jackson would be meeting with the commissioner right now.
WTC, Jet or anyone know anything about Cothron?
Kind of hate to hear that about WKU and KY, only because we play them this weekend. KY is going to be some kind of ticked off after getting the poopoo beat out of them.
From the university site on the AU - Troy game:
A crowd of 2,680 fans attended 50-cent Hot Dog Night, eating a total of 6,793 hot dogs.
2.5/person, not bad MYTD. A shame I wasn't there, I could've bumped that up considerably.
I was thinking the same about my contribution to getting rid of 50¢ hotdogs, ehyou.
CH=B ...
I'm feelin' good about Cothron.
Cothron would be a nice get. Has Kemp signed on yet, cause two 4 star guys over 6-8 would be huge for the program.
I am rocking my braves pullover this morning after that win.
I cannot wait for my trip to NYC this weekend.
I will get to see the Bravos in ATL on Thurs. and at Citi Field on Friday, and Sunday night.
Finebaum predicts 12-0 for Bama. I love the build-up. I hope they hear this kind of stuff all summer.
Kemp signed last fall, but I'm not sure he's done all his academic work in order to be eligible. So he may be in doubt.
stupup, i'm SO FREAKIN' JEALOUS.
i almost drove off the road last nite listening to McClouth's HR. amazing. great match-up of Huddy vs. Halladay tonite at the Ted.
I kinda hope Penn State can do some damage to them. Unfortunately it looks like their only "tough" away games may be @ Arky and @LSU.
I wish we could lose 9 defensive starters and somebody thinks we are going 12-0? When is the last time someone repeated as NC in the BCS era?
That would be never Eddie
Exactly MyTommy.
Of course, UF did go 12-0 last year would be the arguement, and my answer would be it returned almost everyone from the previous year and was still lucky to be 12-0.
CHB- Ditto what Jet said regarding Kemp. Would like to have him. He says he still is coming to AU. Needs to get academics in order from what i hear.
Cothron. I think he has eliminated UAt from his list. Barbee has made a huge effort to get him. Mom likes our chances on getting him.
2BEASLEY!!!
...not to be confused with 176
just for Michael
