Piecemeal from Chizik

Hey everyone. Just finished a short chat with Gene Chizik.

You probably care about 2.2% of what was discussed.

a.) Chizik said a legit, real, for-sure evaluation of Zac Etheridge's ability to play football will happen in mid-to-late July. Etheridge has been participating in non-contact workouts for a while now. He also has been lifting weights.

``He's made some progress. He really has," Chizik said. ``As far as medical details -- is he going to be able to do x, y and z -- we'll make a further, more detailed assessment in mid to late July."

b.) Chizik dismissed talk that playing opponents coming off an off week is a tougher endeavor. He wasn't talking directly about Alabama's situation -- the Tide will play six consecutive games against teams that were off the week before -- but it was an interesting plot twist nonetheless.

``You know what? If the team plays really well, the team that had to week off beforehand, then it's: Boy, they had two weeks. If they play really bad, and I've been on that end, it's: Boy they're rusty because they took the time off. It really is how who wants to spin it spins it. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad."

  2. Eddie, you don't go by the record in determining how good a team is. You have to also consider how they played and who they played. LSU wasn't very impressive at all last season.

  7. To quote the ex-UAT coach: Mike DuBose is not very deep from a depth standpoint.

  8. 9-3 in the regular season is not a down year in the SEC. It may have not met fans expectations, but it is by no way down. If that is down, what is 5-7?

  9. 5-7 is a good season for MSU.

  10. some of the parts I don't care about are said, to, in, now, been, that, aboutand, most especially, Tide.

  11. Bama's situation with playing teams coming off an off week doesn't seem fair, but life isn't fair.

I guess Moon gets what he wanted, cause I read the article.

Saban, Meyer, Petrino ...OK ..predictable enough, Mr. Moon. Nutt, Miles and Phillips ..sure, why not.

Predicting this to be Richt's last stand shows how little you understand. Richt does it the right way and the UGA prez won't dump him until it gets much worse.

Spurrier has mailed it in since getting to USCe and therefore deserves the lowest ranking.

Dooley ...the guy just got there and inherited a bunch of hoodlums. Give him the same break that you are giving Johnson and Phillips.

Chiz and Mullen ...both did more and with less talent than Saban in his first year. You've already admitted that you erroneously chided Saban early on before knowing what he could do..just couldn't help making that mistake again ..huh

Except for Johnson, you seem to be mostly looking at won-loss records. Way to really dig hard and research there ...Bags.

Try doing a little research ...or at the very least ..go read Tony Barnhart and get a little fundamental SEC education.

Typical Bags article ...a few cute, emo-loaded comments meant to get attention and no true understanding that would provide substance = waste-of-time.

Why was Sandra Bullock hotter as an older blonde than 10 years earlier as a brunette?

Now, I'll go read JG's latest.

  15. if he did not want me to read it, then he got what he wanted and I'm happy for him.

  16. With regard to LSU, what impressive win did they have last season? Beating a Georgia team that had a horrible defense? Beating an Ole Miss team that turned out to be much worse than anticipated. Oh wait, they lost to Ole Miss, didn't they?

LSU didn't win a game against a quality opponent. They came close, which is the Vandy battle cry.

Stats repeatedly show that teams coming off of a bye week typically play better than otherwise predicted.

Injuries heal, legs get rested, coaches have 2 weeks to prepare and implement game plans. No rocket science there. I suppose a few poorly coached teams may lose focus during a bye week.

  18. I don't know Steve, I thought we were a pretty quality opponent, or at least we were supposed to be.

  19. Auburn wasn't that good last season. We finished 7-5 in the regular season, won some we shouldn't have and lost some we shouldn't have. We were 3-5 in the SEC, which I don't consider quality.

  20. I do think the coaches did a good job with what they had to work with.
