Auburn basketball fills one schedule slot

Hey everyone. Auburn began the day with six open spots in its 2010-11 schedule, but one has been filled.

The Tigers will play Rutgers in the SEC-Big East Invitational. That game will be played at University of Pittsburgh and will occur in early December.

An official date is to be determined.

  9. Sorry. Couldn't resist. That's all I can think of when Rutgers Basketball is mentioned...

  10. Sensi, if the Celtics win maybe Marquis can take his bonus check & get another bust made of himself.

i don't typically care about the NBA but i will be watching this series.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Didn't realize the NCAA recruiting test was open book. No wonder nobody actually knows the rules...Did Kiffin ever take/pass it?

    ReplyDelete
  12. No worries, PF. I chuckled.

I hate the NBA. Any way both teams can lose?

    ReplyDelete
  13. i'll be cheering for the Celtics since they've got an AU & a UK boy.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I hate the Pats and Sox and Good Will Hunting, but love the Bruins, Celtics, and Car Talk guys. Boston is a confusing city for me.

    ReplyDelete
  15. what, you hate Good Will Hunting?

"You like apples? I got her number. How you like them appples?"

    ReplyDelete
  16. I could care less about NBA than I do about soccer. But some of you losers like them and I don't, no big whoop. I'm not gonna kill you over it. Something else perhaps, but this? No. I won't watch a minute of the Celtics v Lakers.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I despise everything Boston.

Maybe not everything, Boston Baked Beans are pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  18. i'm relieved to know you won't end my life over it Norm. thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I like the Red Sox, though much less than I used to. I dig the Irish heritage. I generally like the city. Not a fan of the Celtics/Pats/Bruins.

I love the Baked Beans and Boston butt BBQ. Sam Adams beer is quality...

    ReplyDelete
  20. scottie b - don't rest too easy now. You're safe on this issue here, but I reserve the right to kill you for something else unrelated at another time. So, since I just reserved that right, should this ever actually happen, the only proper response any Hottie could give would be "well, I know he had it comin'..."

    ReplyDelete
  21. you got me on that one Norm. good stuff. how about i offer you a refreshing Sam Adams Boston Lager?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Don't know about playing no Scarlet Knights. Scarlet Knights seems like the title of a movie about a trip to a brothel.

  23. I know Boston. I have been to Boston. I spent the night in a motel room on a street that looked like it was out of Rocky I. It was right down from where they were demolishing the old Boston Garden. I also experienced Boston's roads. It is likely different these days, but I'll take Columbia any day.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ok I like Sam Adams too.

And the Departed wasn't so bad.

Things I do hate about Boston:
    Each and every sports team
    Fans of said sports teams
Obnoxious people from Boston (95% of them)
    Boston Accents
    Ally McBeal
    Harvard

    Things I like
    Cheers
    The Boondock saints

    I'm done

    ReplyDelete
  25. You know of course that Rocky was set in Philly rather than Boston...right?

I've been to Boston. I've been to Philly (if you have a choice, DO NOT stay in a hotel a floor below the group "Stomp"), I've been to Pittsburgh and I'm currently about an hour south of there now. I done been lots of other places too.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yes, I know about Rocky. The place I stayed at just looked like what was in that movie. I paid over $100 for one night in that motel since my flight out was canceled. They gave away free drinks on my incoming flight because we were stuct circling the airport. By when I came off the plane, I was feeling very, ummm, satisfied, but had no place to stay when the outgoing flight was canceled. It made for an interesting layover. The hotel at the airport wanted $250 for one night. Yes, I am stupid with money sometimes, but not that stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  27. SEC-Big East Invitational and we get Rutgers?

Don't really know what to think of that.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Good thing its not Pitt. Or 'cuse. Or WVU. Or Louisville.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Great American Cities:

    New York
    Chicago
    San Francisco
    San Diego

  32. Jet - Pittsburgh belongs on your Great list, Detroit on your 'pit list.

    ReplyDelete
  33. And Pittsburgh kills the thread.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I've only been in the Pittsburg airport, which wasn't too impressive. Can't really say anything about the city.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Charleston and Savannah are cool. I'm a sucker for Souther port cities. Always heard great things about Austin, TX. Go ahead and throw Denver on there as well. Would love to visit Seattle some day.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Out of all the teams in the Big East we could play, Rutgers is kind of a let down.

Who opens the new building with us?

    ReplyDelete
  37. ...oh and Go Braves!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ebro ... I liked Denver and Minneapolis (in June)... they are "good." Haven't made it to Seattle yet.

Haven't gone to Detroit yet. Pittsburgh wasn't bad. I'm due to debut in Austin next year.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Jet's Wild Theory ...

AU opens Barbee's Dream House against UnderArmour cousin Maryland.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I've been to Seattle too a couple of times. Unfortunately, most of the places I get to go, I'm too busy working (it's almost 7p here and I'm still working at the hospital) to get out and enjoy anything. Oregon and Washington are nice areas of the country to see.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Here's a great (and sad) array of oil-related photos from my friend John David Mercer.

He went looking for oil off Dauphin Island ... and found it.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Maryland is a father, grandfather, or uncle, not cousin. Like AU was before they screwed over Russell.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Charleston - definitely on the top cities list - but then again, I live here. Pretty good Auburn club, too, although our scholarship dinner speakers are Rod Bramblett and Betsy Robertson. No coaches, just journalists. I guess that means neither Fort Dorchester, Summerville, nor Wando has a recruit worthy of the expense.

As far as Boston goes - Bruins good. Sox bad. Pats bad. Celtics irrelevant (but Lakers < irrelevant).

    ReplyDelete
  44. We considered moving to Chucktown several years ago, but decided the whole old boys club and everyone knows everyone situation there would make it difficult for two young professionals looking to establish themselves. I love it there.

If one must live in an urban area, the DC metro area has to be near the top. Great public spaces, good public transportation, some of the best museums in the world FREE, free concerts, Mountains within 2 hrs west and beaches 2 hrs east.

Ignore the blowhards on the hill and learn to avoid the traffic (use the public transportation).

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'll second Houston, St.Louis, and Detroit as armpits. I don't like LA or Philly, either.

    ReplyDelete
  47. So...I'm attending Bonnaroo next week with VIP passes. Sweet, right?

But I'm torn b/c the World Cup starts next weekend as well. I'll definitely be watching US-England, but not sure how much else I'll catch live.

    ReplyDelete
  48. E-bro,

You could give them to me and watch the WC....or watch at that tent that's supposedly showing the games.

    ReplyDelete
  49. That's a fine suggestion Peter, but I think I'll pass. I'll probably check out the games that they show in the tent, but I'm still going to miss more than I would like it.

So it goes. Can't have your cake and all that jazz right?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Been to Houston several times. Not much there.
Ran marathons in Chicago, New York, DC so I saw at least 26 miles of each town. Was sort of tired to see too much else. we did make a few trips out. All 3 are good towns to visit.

    ReplyDelete
  51. another perfect game was pitched tonight...but he got screwed out of it by an official. That sucks! Do you know how hard that is to do!!!!! A sports travesty.

as a pitcher's mama I'd like to wring that official's neck.......

    ReplyDelete
  52. If Detroit would've gotten that last out, it would've been the 4th Perfect Game this year. We're not even at the All-Star Break! I think there were 15 ever before this season (Modern era). The odds on that have to surpass the odds of winning the lottery. Crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I think San Antonio is a great city. MrsTHT would put it on Jet's other list. I've never been to Buffalo or Cleveland. There isn't a city in California that I'm a big fan of.

(A year ago, this would be when Monica would pipe up about me ending the sentence with a preposition).

None of the fine cities mentioned on this thread can top Auburn or Chapel Hill, although the latter has more than its share of complete weirdos.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Wait, I think I drempt up a second perfect game against the Rays. Only two so far this year.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I also typed the funniest looking word I've ever seen.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Apparently both rivals and espn feel Jadeveon Clowney of South Carolina is the recruit in America. Hmmm, he deserves a scholarship offer just for that unique name alone.

    ReplyDelete
  57. AU screwed over Russell? I'm generally a free trade kinda guy, but when they basically abandoned the state, I can't say AU screwed over Russell. They responded to the marketplace.

    ReplyDelete
  58. PF- 3rd this season, and would've made 20 total ALL TIME EVAR.

That's freakin ridiculous. Bring back steroids.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Back from vacation (not of my own doing) and ready to get caught up on the HABOTN. I will start that tomorrow at "work". I will say though I'm not thrilled about Moon on the HABOTN. Where is Jay?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Jay is in Sandestin.

    Josh is at Auburn.

I can't be in both places and I'm very appreciative of Josh for helping out.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Have fun G. I just got back from the beach and I miss it already.

Maybe Josh can give us some good coverage without all the other "stuff". I won't go any further. I think it has been touch on before. He may be good at what he does, but I am not a fan.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Seanzie's fav cities:

Denver, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, Nashville, NYC.

    Least favs:

Memphis, Atlanta, LA, St. Louis, New Orleans

    ReplyDelete
  63. PF... were you trying to count Ubaldo Jiminez' no-hitter?

So far this season, we've seen a No-No, 2 perfect games, and 1 more that should be.

I just saw the ending of that game... Wow, is all I can say.
As a former umpire... that's an ump's worst nightmare. I can't believe he blew that call so badly. The ump did everything wrong on that play. Simply amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  64. CHB-I am hearing some good news coming from BCW. We may have quite a few ready to pull the trigger VERY soon.

    ReplyDelete
  65. To show how recruiting is subjective, a kid from Russellville (a good player and AU would take in a heart beat) is rated the #9 player in the country by Rivals. He did not make the ESPN 150 list today.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Don't be too hard on Josh. He has opinions and opinions are welcome here. I also appreciate the help he is giving Jay. This ends your daily suck up. Come back tomorrow the latest.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Morning Hotties. I love short weeks. It's only my second day of work this week and it's already Thursday.

    Huzzah!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Good morning all. WTC I have seen some things to back up your BCW statement.

It seems as though the recruiting rankings are even more off this year than in the past. I have read a lot of complaints/comments about it.

Can't believe the umpire missed that call. It wasn't even close. Its a very tough job calling plays during live action. I even saw a stat that suggested baseball umpires are accurate like 98-99% of the time (excluding calling balls/strikes), but the miss yesterday was one of the worst I have ever seen. There should be some kind of provision to allow for replay in that case.

    ReplyDelete
  69. In our ninny-nanny society, we seem to want to fix every mistake and every blown call.

If I were sports czar, I'd unplug all replay and play the games. Once we've started down the replay path, all we do is determine its shortcomings.

I hate it for the pitcher, but the sport has survived -- and so did many others -- without instant replay.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I wouldn't want baseball without Earl Weaver-esqe tirades. Umpires and the mistakes they make are part of the game. Mistakes are few and they even out for both sides over time.

There is no doubt whether the runner was out or safe. He was obviously safe because that was the umps call.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I got into a major argument with a teacher in high school who claimed that a pitcher couldn't make a baseball move, it was an optical illusion.

I'll use her logic and say that although it may have looked like he was safe, it was just an optical illusion.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I think umps need to be held more accountable for their actions. I have seen some unbelievably bad calls lately. When an ump has a game where he is clearly wrong on numerous calls, particularly behind the plate, he shoudl be penalized in some way.

I have alot of respect for Jim Joyce, he messed up, and admitted it and apologized. This isn't always the case unfortunately. Just last night a ump made the wrong call, as replay showed. After the game he became angry when questioned about it and was adamant he made the right call.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Hopefully that teacher was not a science teacher ehyou.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Jet - please add Memphis and New Orleans to the pit list. And although many may disagree, please delete New York from the great list. I'm not a fan of that place.

Any place is bearable if you have enough cash, it just takes a whole lota cash to make New York bearable.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I disagree about NYC. I got to spend 3 weeks there working and I got by on little cash and had a great time. Pizza is by far the best in the US. Loved just walking around the city. So much to see and enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Memphis is da bomb!

Another cheap way to eat at NYC is the hot dog stands. Gray's Papaya is awesome. But when I went, we ate there once, and spent a million bucks eating at the other places. And don't even mention the hotel. Sheesh!

    ReplyDelete

Referees/umpires are human and make mistakes. Replays help correct those mistakes.

As long as blown calls aren't one-sided, I'm all for giving the refs a break and not throwing around blame. I'm also all for the refs finally admitting their humanity/mistakes.

Let's admit mistakes and use technology to make it right.

  85. nice work, Scottie!

I must get back to work, but not before announcing that it is NINETY-THREE days, 10 hours, 5 minutes til kickoff!

  86. If you watch the replay of that umpiring fiasco, you will notice that even the runner thought he was out.

    Best American cities to visit:
    1. Sante Fe
    2. San Fran
    3. San Diego
    4. Boston
    5. Austin
    6. New Orleans

    Best places to live:
    1. Austin
    2. NW Ga.

New York is great if someone else is paying, but still has a very high hassle-to-entertainment factor. I didn't leave anything there the last time I visited.

    ReplyDelete
  88. HAPPY AUNDRAY BRUCE DAY THT!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  89. By NW GA you don't mean Atlanta?

    ReplyDelete
  90. New Orleans is vile. It has no redeeming qualities. I am a worse person for having ever been there.

    ReplyDelete
  91. New Orleans is an acquired taste. It has its great places and its in the gutter places. After many years of being married to a NOLA native, I have learned to appreciate it. It does help to know where to go and what (or who) to avoid. I guess that is true of just about everywhere.

I do not like the humidity there. It makes Montgomery seem moderate.

    ReplyDelete
  92. OK, I forgot that The Meters are out of New Orleans and they were fabulous.

    ReplyDelete
  93. New Orleans...went for the Sugar Bowl. Will only go back if Les Tigres are playing there.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Never been to Wilmington, NC, but I have often heard good things and it fits the bill for those Southern Coastal cities I tend to really like.

    ReplyDelete
  95. If I wrote a song and named all the cities I have visited it would be one of the longest songs ever written.
Most were good for a visit but I would not want to live in many of them.
To select the best city to live in would be difficult but I did enjoy living in Winston Salem NC and Huntsville Al. Where I live now is also fine Rainbow City Al.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Credit to both the umpire and the Tigers for all being pros about the game yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  97. i don't even like the Tigers but i was in shock last nite watching the end of that game live on the MLB Network. WOW. the kid handled it well. better than i would have.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I'm surprised he let the first baseman chew him out for that last out, I thought for sure he was going to get tossed. Good thing they ended up winning that game.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I have to say that I love Vegas, and think its a fantastic city to visit. However that being said I don't know if I could ever do more than 4 days there.

    ReplyDelete
  100. yeah Cabrera was p-o'd. i wonder how long it took the ump to realize he screwed up.

    ReplyDelete
  101. just watched the play. You know I've seen them call outs at 2nd that were twice as far away as what he called safe at 1st.

    ReplyDelete
  102. i know mtd, that's the crazy part. it wasn't even close.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I wonder where he's going to be positioned for the game today. If he's behind the plate, I imagine it's going to be a real long game for the guy. But he put himself in that spot.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Ephemeral,

Some of the best places in NO are in the gutter places.

    ReplyDelete

Bourbon St is vile. NOLA has much more than Bourbon St. There ain't enough good for me to want to live there, but a few days visit enjoying restaurants, history and architecture every 10 years is worthy.

NWGa. is much better than the ATL in my book. I escaped ATL many years ago and now only drive through it to go other places. NW Ga is #2 to me because I live here and have grown to love it. In addition to the great and interesting characters around here, NW Ga is geographically convenient and geologically interesting. Cartersville is at the southern end of the Cartersville Fault, which separates the Blue Ridge from the Ridge and Valley. The Piedmont region starts immediately south of here. Yep ..I'm a geology geek.
