Hey everyone. Auburn began the day with six open spots in its 2010-11 schedule, but one has been filled.The Tigers will play Rutgers in the SEC-Big East Invitational. That game will be played at University of Pittsburgh and will occur in early December.
An official date is to be determined.

ReplyDeleteI know Boston. I have been to Boston. I spent the night in a motel room on a street that looked like it was out of Rocky I. It was right down from where they were demolishing the old Boston Garden. I also experienced Boston's roads. It is likely different these days, but I'll take Columbia any day.

ReplyDeleteI've been to Boston. I've been to Philly (if you have a choice, DO NOT stay in a hotel a floor below the group "Stomp"), I've been to Pittsburgh and I'm currently about an hour south of there now. I done been lots of other places too.
Yes, I know about Rocky. The place I stayed at just looked like what was in that movie. I paid over $100 for one night in that motel since my flight out was canceled. They gave away free drinks on my incoming flight because we were stuct circling the airport. By when I came off the plane, I was feeling very, ummm, satisfied, but had no place to stay when the outgoing flight was canceled. It made for an interesting layover. The hotel at the airport wanted $250 for one night. Yes, I am stupid with money sometimes, but not that stupid.

I've been to Seattle too a couple of times. Unfortunately, most of the places I get to go, I'm too busy working (it's almost 7p here and I'm still working at the hospital) to get out and enjoy anything. Oregon and Washington are nice areas of the country to see.

ReplyDeleteCharleston - definitely on the top cities list - but then again, I live here. Pretty good Auburn club, too, although our scholarship dinner speakers are Rod Bramblett and Betsy Robertson. No coaches, just journalists. I guess that means neither Fort Dorchester, Summerville, nor Wando has a recruit worthy of the expense.

We considered moving to Chucktown several years ago, but decided the whole old boys club and everyone knows everyone situation there would make it difficult for two young professionals looking to establish themselves. I love it there.
ReplyDeleteIf one must live in an urban area, the DC metro area has to be near the top. Great public spaces, good public transportation, some of the best museums in the world FREE, free concerts, Mountains within 2 hrs west and beaches 2 hrs east.

ReplyDeleteRan marathons in Chicago, New York, DC so I saw at least 26 miles of each town. Was sort of tired to see too much else. we did make a few trips out. All 3 are good towns to visit.
another perfect game was pitched tonight...but he got screwed out of it by an official. That sucks! Do you know how hard that is to do!!!!! A sports travesty.

If Detroit would've gotten that last out, it would've been the 4th Perfect Game this year. We're not even at the All-Star Break! I think there were 15 ever before this season (Modern era). The odds on that have to surpass the odds of winning the lottery. Crazy.

As a former umpire... that's an ump's worst nightmare. I can't believe he blew that call so badly. The ump did everything wrong on that play. Simply amazing.

ReplyDeleteTo show how recruiting is subjective, a kid from Russellville (a good player and AU would take in a heart beat) is rated the #9 player in the country by Rivals. He did not make the ESPN 150 list today.

ReplyDeleteIt seems as though the recruiting rankings are even more off this year than in the past. I have read a lot of complaints/comments about it.
Can't believe the umpire missed that call. It wasn't even close. Its a very tough job calling plays during live action. I even saw a stat that suggested baseball umpires are accurate like 98-99% of the time (excluding calling balls/strikes), but the miss yesterday was one of the worst I have ever seen. There should be some kind of provision to allow for replay in that case.
In our ninny-nanny society, we seem to want to fix every mistake and every blown call.
ReplyDeleteIf I were sports czar, I'd unplug all replay and play the games. Once we've started down the replay path, all we do is determine its shortcomings.
I hate it for the pitcher, but the sport has survived -- and so did many others -- without instant replay.
I wouldn't want baseball without Earl Weaver-esqe tirades. Umpires and the mistakes they make are part of the game. Mistakes are few and they even out for both sides over time.

I got into a major argument with a teacher in high school who claimed that a pitcher couldn't make a baseball move, it was an optical illusion.
ReplyDeleteI'll use her logic and say that although it may have looked like he was safe, it was just an optical illusion.
I think umps need to be held more accountable for their actions. I have seen some unbelievably bad calls lately. When an ump has a game where he is clearly wrong on numerous calls, particularly behind the plate, he shoudl be penalized in some way.
ReplyDeleteI have alot of respect for Jim Joyce, he messed up, and admitted it and apologized. This isn't always the case unfortunately. Just last night a ump made the wrong call, as replay showed. After the game he became angry when questioned about it and was adamant he made the right call.
Hopefully that teacher was not a science teacher ehyou.

I disagree about NYC. I got to spend 3 weeks there working and I got by on little cash and had a great time. Pizza is by far the best in the US. Loved just walking around the city. So much to see and enjoy.

ReplyDeleteAs long as blown calls aren't one-sided, I'm all for giving the refs a break and not throwing around blame. I'm also all for the refs finally admitting their humanity/mistakes.
Let's admit mistakes and use technology to make it right.

ReplyDeleteNew Orleans is an acquired taste. It has its great places and its in the gutter places. After many years of being married to a NOLA native, I have learned to appreciate it. It does help to know where to go and what (or who) to avoid. I guess that is true of just about everywhere.

To select the best city to live in would be difficult but I did enjoy living in Winston Salem NC and Huntsville Al. Where I live now is also fine Rainbow City Al.

ReplyDeleteNWGa. is much better than the ATL in my book. I escaped ATL many years ago and now only drive through it to go other places. NW Ga is #2 to me because I live here and have grown to love it. In addition to the great and interesting characters around here, NW Ga is geographically convenient and geologically interesting. Cartersville is at the southern end of the Cartersville Fault, which separates the Blue Ridge from the Ridge and Valley. The Piedmont region starts immediately south of here. Yep ..I'm a geology geek.
