Texas isn't leaving the league. Neither is Oklahoma. Neither is Texas A&M.
It's a decision that some Aggies fans have decried.
"With one decision, the big brass of Texas A&M inhibited the athletic program's potential and has done irreparable damage to the future success of Aggie athletics."
Others believe Texas A&M made the right decision. Among those supporters is SI.com's Stewart Mandel, whose writing I trust.
"Many SEC fans and Texas A&M fans, meanwhile, had gotten their hopes up about a potential marriage, one that appeared plausible as recently as Sunday night. It didn't happen, and while many of those fans may disagree, believe me, this is a good thing for both parties. The SEC has a near-perfect product. It's the toast of the sport right now. It's not hurting for money. There was no justifiable reason to mess it up for the sake of a few Texas television sets, just as the Aggies would have eventually regretted parting with their Lone Star brethren."

ReplyDeleteJayGT - I share your agreement with S.Mandel.
ReplyDeleteShocking developments.
ReplyDeletere: stand pat
ReplyDeletereminds me of butter pats, which our kindergarten teacher would give us sort of like as a dessert. I still enjoy a good slab of butter. Who needs bread?
a la casa tout de suite!!!
ReplyDeleteExpansion was a nice filler. I'm just sad it's over this soon.
ReplyDeletePats of butter....seriously? U mustve been a bad kid.

ReplyDeleteYes, Jabrian Niles, DE of Davidson High School in the Port City of Mobile.
Sweet. The cable guy just gave me the movie channels. Cool.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dubya! I knew it--I just wanted confirmation from the powers to be of HABOTN!
ReplyDeleteYippee for the cable guy! Take that Comcast!
ReplyDeleteNothing like some GNR blaring and a huge stack of weight to lift to soothe a crappy work day.
ReplyDeleteSo no chance the SEC adds La Monroe and Arkansas State?
ReplyDeleteMight as well, RK. They make frequent appearances throughout the conference each season.
ReplyDeleteI'm not willing to castigate Texas. The Big 10 started this issue. The PAC 10 invited Texas, et al to join the PAC 10. Texas only responded to the cards that were dealt them. Did they use their trump cards? ..Of course they did. They would be idiots not to.
ReplyDeleteBTW ..I have never read anything put out from the University of Texas stating they wouldn't come to the SEC because of academics. That may be partly the case given the liberal makeup of the university staff, but Texas didn't say it ...the ESPN-type talking heads said it. Let's keep the story straight and don't blame Texas for something they didn't say.
Scottie - only the good kids got an extra butter pat.
ReplyDeleteJet - don't forget SNL's pat. He/she was awesome.
But Hoopie...blaming Texas is just so much dadgum fun.
ReplyDeletePat's gonna leave it with Bo....
ReplyDeletePat Washington 10!
THT - when I was a kid, my mom used to make me a sandwich with butter and sprinkle some sugar on it. As I recall, I really enjoyed those.
ReplyDeleteHere's a quote from an AJC column about Chipper possibly retiring and his frustrations with injuries - "...He is not Mike Hampton, who could have retired several million dollars and slumbers on the disabled list long before he did. Hampton couldn’t get out of bed without having a major organ explode. Yet, it never seemed to affect his ATM finger." That tickled me.
ReplyDeleteexploding organs? Ugh. Pipes all over the place. What a mess.
