DAY ONE: Wrappin' it up

Hey everyone. The first day of puffery and inanity has ended. What was worthwhile?

I'm glad you asked.

  1. Nick Saban referring to predatory agents as "pimps."

  2. Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen responding to indirect criticism from Saban about the spread offense (favored by MSU) not helping players develop NFL skills. ``I've coached the spread offense and I've had a lot more first-round quarterbacks drafted than he has in his career as head coach."

  3. Commissioner Mike Slive discussing new Tennessee coach Derek Dooley and noting that his "predecessor left to return to his western roots." It was a humorous, though diluted, shot at Lane Kiffin.

  4. Florida coach Urban Meyer also taking an indirect shot at Kiffin by praising Dooley as a "high-character" guy ... and how that's a "nice change."

  5. Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen saying he'd be happy to expand Scott Field ... as soon as they generate enough fan support to fill the current capacity.

  6. Florida offensive lineman Mike Pouncey, whose brother allegedly took a payment after the SEC Championship game last year, saying the allegation "ruined someone's name" and seemed sullen about the whole thing.

212 comments:

  1. I bet Pouncey wasn't damn glad to be there.

Mullen seems to have jabbed Nicki a bit too about being able to develop an NFL QB.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Nicely done, Makkah.

    Nicely done, JGT. Thanks!!!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Day one in the books ... a good time was had by all.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Yea. I don't post here...ever. But I've lurked for over a year and a half. Love the work you do Jay (and wtc for the underground developments).

    Proud day for me.

Carry on! And bring on a great 2010 season!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Steve -- I forgot about that dig.

    I'll add it.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Mak ... don't thank WTC.

    Thank MOM.

    ReplyDelete
  7. K then. Props Mamma WTC.

    WDE

    ReplyDelete
  8. So, how did the first round of media days affect the season? I like that Mullen sounds confident, but you don't squirt your water pistol at the guy holding the fire hose.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Makkah, welcome and be sure to comment more often. THT can't carry the show by himself.

    ReplyDelete
  10. How many mullen qbs have had success in the nfl

    ReplyDelete
  11. We need new RoF members. Cincy, THT, and Norm get my votes. Spongeworthy should get in on coolness of nick.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I also nominate wtc and his mom.

    ReplyDelete
  13. What about the MSU DB saying he's ready for revenge against AU? He said our game left a sour taste in their mouths.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Good work Makkah, I'll try not to insult you as I did FOS.

    ReplyDelete
  15. and look who's carrying the show now.

I'd like to be guilty of that, but I think my claim is more along the lines of littering the thread with substance-free trash.

    ReplyDelete
  16. ...with the notable exception of that one overflowing-with-substance post I try to get when the count gets up in the high 80s.

    ReplyDelete
  17. we are now 44 days 23 hours 10 minutes from kickoff.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Did anyone watch "Deadliest Catch" last night?

    ReplyDelete
  19. sorry, CH=B, I watched White Collar and Covert Affairs. Tonight is Psyche.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I DVR'd it, CHB. No spoilers!

    Maybe Phil actually pulled through!

    ReplyDelete
  21. LGGB watched it though, CH=B. He told me about the killer whale crashing into the boat, and then one of the crew was accidentally eaten by a whale shark.

    ReplyDelete
  22. oops, sorry, JGT. I didn't see your post before I spoiled it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I watched some of the Deadliest Catch last night. It was kind of a bummer at first, but then they described Phil's life. He was a pretty interesting guy.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Bud Wilkinson

article about the great OU coach. I don't remember his days at OU, but I fondly recall how he, as the college football tv analyst in the '60s, moved the little Xs and Os around on his magnetic board, showing how plays were designed to go and explaining the strategy behind them.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Top Ten and Bottom Ten non-conference football schedules this season. (AU isn't on either list)

    ReplyDelete
  26. THT is runnin this show no. Better stay outta his way.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Auburn doesn't deserve to be in the bottom of top list of outside opponents. I wish we would pick one other good outside opponent a year, but it ain't likely to happen any time soon.

    ReplyDelete
  28. actually, Scottie B, I'm going next door to see how his DSL compares speed wise to our TWC internet. We aren't close to a switching station, so we can't get the really good DSL, but I'm getting really tired of TWC.

    ReplyDelete
  29. another 45+ minutes before JGT can turn on his Deadliest Catch DVR. 2nd half of Man U vs Philadelphia just started.

    ReplyDelete
  30. scottie b, i expect to see you on the jumbotron during the arky state game sporting the 60s batman costume and dark knight attitude.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I DVR'd it too. I heard if was pretty good.

SFC, I don't think we need another good out of conference game, but I do think we need to stop playing DII schools.

    ReplyDelete
  32. where are the vuvuzelas? it not futbol without the vuvuzelas.

i imagine if you blew one in philly, you may have to visit a proctologist to have it removed.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Talking about hot weather games. My wife and I went to the USC game in '03. I can't remember being outside in hotter weather in my life. It was one of the worst times I've ever had tailgating. We were all miserable and grumpy. Then we lost and it made things even worse.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm now safely in my room ... and it has legit internet access.

    YAY!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Dangit! Work made me miss media day. I love commenting on the coach's comments.

Free drinks in the hotel lobby for 5 more minutes. I've been here awhile. Come join me before it's over!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. How many mullets did you see today?

    ReplyDelete
  37. They don't let goats in hotels.

    ReplyDelete
  38. ch=b, i think you are allowed to declare 10 mins of al.com once a day and call people whatever you like and be a dadgum idiot. those were the rules if i'm not mistaken. use your powers wisely.

what was media days like without tim tebow? will the sec and college football survive? espn has already shut down production of all college football show, projects and games from what my sources tell me.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Zero. Except for my own in the mirror.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Actually I think when someone else is being an idiot you should get to declare al.com on them. They must then stand in the corner and post negatively about themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Man U on tv? I say yes.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Jay, were you aware all these guys are a bunch of idiots?

    ReplyDelete
  43. ch=b, i was @ uscw too. my favorite memory was i handed the person at the gate my ticket, took one step into the stadium, reached down and picked up a spent bullet. nice place... the heat didn't do much for caddy either.

    ReplyDelete
  44. are these the man u scrubs or the real deal players?

    ReplyDelete
  45. But serisouly, free drinks in the hotel lobby. Who knew Utah was this awesome?

    ReplyDelete
  46. I declare al.com on Michael and his one fainting goat.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I thought Utah was dry? Who knew?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Chip Chip..... Off to the bat cave!

    Wait.....futbol? That's another blog.

    ReplyDelete
  49. What is the over/under on the number of walmartians that probably risked their jobs just to see weeman? I say 76.

    ReplyDelete
  50. you forgot they don't have jobs. meth cookers are their own boss.

    ReplyDelete
  51. "I don't want no scrubs...."

    ReplyDelete
  52. The first home game of the 2008 season - I don't even remember who we played - but that is the hottest I ever remember being in my life. It was then Mr. Cincy began looking at condos across from campus, so I guess the heat payed off.

    ReplyDelete
  53. les miles opens mouth, something stupid comes out

now that things have slowed down a bit, i thought this needed a repost for those who didn't get a chance to hear it earlier today.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Chip, I thought 2003 was at Auburn or was that 2002.

    ReplyDelete
  55. CHB, look man, I got nothing against you, but you are a bunch of idiots.

    ReplyDelete
  56. who cares. i don't need to think about being at either one ever again.

    ReplyDelete
  57. You are right Chip.

Michael what does it say about you that you like to hang with a bunch of idiots.

    ReplyDelete
  58. U callin me a scrub cHB?

    Well maybe I am....

    ReplyDelete
  59. Nope, I was calling you out for remembering that song.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Anonymous8:17 PM

I rarely go to early season HSFB or CFB games because of the heat. It just doesn't feel like football.

Of course at the AU-UK game last season, Ms Hoopie would have welcomed some of that heat.

    ReplyDelete
  61. CHB, I can honestly say that you will never run into a bigger idiot than me. That is how I know you guys are a bunch of idiots. I fit in.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I can't argue with that logic Michael.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I have no defense CHB. It's shameful really.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Anonymous8:20 PM

It was a small-ish, but admirably salty group that kept the HABOTN interesting during day one of SEC media days.

    Kudos to all.

    ReplyDelete
  65. thanks unemployment!!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Anonymous8:25 PM

We got plenty of idiots around here that's fo sho. Speaking of idiots ...where's Seanzie?

That leaves Norm out by his-self as the only moron. I'm just gonna go ahead and join Norm by declaring moronic status. I'm sure I can conjure a moronic speculative post if need be.

    ReplyDelete
  67. TLC's "Waterfalls" still makes me cry. That song is what inspired me to live a mediocre sedentary life, and without it, who knows how much responsibility I might have right now?

Don't go chasing waterfalls, please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I haven't seen Seanzie in a while either.

    ReplyDelete
  69. i experienced the unpleasantness of finebaum for about 2 minutes this afternoon. wnsp was on when i got in the car and he was vigorously defending and downplaying the dareus thing. i could sense the frustration in his voice. it almost made me want to listen but not really.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Michale - Queen of Eurasia, Leaderof the idiots?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Anonymous8:30 PM

Chip ..I hate it for you that you are unemployed, but your salty posts have been enjoyable. Your Bama hate is worthy and using that energy on here can keep you sharp until you can rejoin the ranks of taxpayers.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Anyone heard from jhag? You make him a franchise player and he falls off the map.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I am going to be in Auburn tomorrow so I won't get to do much blawgin about media days, but at least Auburn isn't until Friday and I should be able to participate in the festivities.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Jason Heyward is going to be AWESOME.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Anonymous8:32 PM

Chip ...We don't have a lot of Bammers to hate in NW Ga. While that is a blessing, I find myself listening to PF just to fuel the hate. The best part is I can turn it off and not have any Bammers around.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Anonymous8:34 PM

I think JHAG is immersed in a whole bunch of those blonde co-eds that are so prevalent in Tallahassee.

We may not see him till next winter.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Going to finish watching "Deadliest Catch" and cry some more. Don't tell anyone. Talk to you guys tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Anonymous8:35 PM

Cincy ...maybe you can get a PC/Mac for an early X-mas gift.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Haven't gone to the Saban presser thread to see, but consensus on Atlanta sports is that Bama is just reloading, and will have just as capable a defense this coming year.

I tend to disagree whole heartedly

    ReplyDelete
  80. Leader of Idiots? Yeah, we can add that. Queen of HABOTN, King of Eurasia, Master of Thighs, Private Business Owner of Goats, MJT, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  81. No way you can lose 9 starters on defense and not feel it. Perhaps not for the entire year, but i have to believe there are going to be some growing pains.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I'm having a lot of trouble getting HABOTN web site tonight. Is that my crappy internet, or is it blogger.com?

BTW, according to speedtest.net, my internet connection is 2x my neighbor's DSL connection.

    ReplyDelete
  83. One last post. No way in heck their D will be as good. Lost too many starters. No team is that stacked. Later.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Thats a lot of titles youre carrying there Michael.
    I almost misspelled titles

    ReplyDelete
  85. Also - we didn't have any current players at that party in South Beach right?

    ReplyDelete
  86. Don't Meyer and Slive realize that by acknowledging that they're happy that Kiffin isn't at SEC Media Days, that they're actually just inflating his super sized ego even more.

I realize it's the media bringing it up in the first place, but he's gone. Forget about him.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Les Miles - environmentalist - yeah, no. Not at all.

Thanks for the sound bite Chip

    ReplyDelete
  88. mytommyd - he's just a singer in a rock and roll band.

    ...oh.

    You said Jason. Nevahmind

    ReplyDelete
  89. Thanks for the kind words guys. Mom also is very grateful.
    Andre Smith
    Julius & Ingram
    J Harris
    M Dareus
Looks like a trend and not done random thing some are trying to say.

    ReplyDelete
  90. You guys are a bunch of idiots, per Michael. Loveable idiots, but idiots nonetheless

    ReplyDelete
  91. Its all part of the process wtc

    ReplyDelete
  92. Trend fo sho. Just hope a lot more comes out.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Also hearing their cornerback from Gadsden could be suspended. Is it Dre Kirkpatric. Even heard that from an REC fellow. Don't have any hard info though.

    ReplyDelete
  94. If it IS Dre that would be REAL tough for them. hehehe

    ReplyDelete
  95. Tigerland has link to Orlando Sentinel. Article says UA is the dirtiest program in SEC. Nice reading.

    ReplyDelete
  96. And maybe, too, Alabama should get rid of its elephant mascot and replace it with a pig.

What better animal to symbolize the dirtiest, stinkiest program in recent NCAA history.

Quote from the Sentenel article. Nice

    ReplyDelete
  97. Where's Harrison? If that idiot was here, I would so do a puppet hour right about now.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Crap Wagner blew the save. Looks like the Braves. Going to have to bat in the 9th.

    ReplyDelete
  99. What up peeps? Intermittently, I believe I've read all of the various posts.

Homer - thanks for the work.
SFC - thanks for the vote.
Hoopie - thanks for the moron reminder.
    Chip - enjoyed your comments.
    Makkah - welcome, don't be a stranger.
Jet - I'm sure you haven't done anything today to forestall my plans of your ultimate demise.

Keep Hate Alive! I know I will.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Sure would have been nice to have gotten Gonzales in from 3rd in the 8th

    ReplyDelete
  101. MJT - I spent two weeks "trapped" in S. Utah (Cedar City & St. George) a few years ago. It was not the most enjoyable time of my life.

    ReplyDelete
  102. tommyd, I asked earlier in the day and no response so I am hoping NOT.

Sorry I missed the late FL fun....

    ReplyDelete
  103. WTC. Did you ever hear any additional info on "Da Bull". There was speculation he was about to be kicked off the team. We know the background. Wouldn't be surprised to see this come up in the middle of the season, courtesy of the cripmson mafia..

    ReplyDelete
  104. Cool WEG! i just hope our guys had the sense to head the other direction when they heard the word "agent" being used

    ReplyDelete
  105. Crap - free baseball in the ATL.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Norm, Utah smells weird. I have no idea what that's all about. Salt Lake City is a wannabe desert town. If you are going to be a real desert town, you can't have trees all over the place. They totally half-ass the desert thing.

And although I am annoyed by the 3.2% alcohol beers, they were quite free at my hotel, so I can't complain.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Tiger Woods endorsements down about 22 million from last year.

Now that's an expensive piece of ...

    ReplyDelete
  108. well tommyd I can't be too sure cause you know Jay won't say anything unless it's proven but no comments from WTC or mom

    ReplyDelete
  109. For those of you that want to see, here's the article (I think) that Sponge was talking about cheatin' bammers

    ReplyDelete
  110. Utah. Best skiing in the USA. Also a lot to do in the summer w/ great temps and no bugs. (Salt Lake area)

    ReplyDelete
  111. My mom is reporting that Darlene Mackenzie has been kicked off the team. So much for our hope of having the first woman quarterback in the SEC.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I love the fact that Saban is telling people to visit the coast as though his word is gospel.

    ReplyDelete
  113. The other thing you haven't heard is any speculation of our guys being there. It's going to be interesting to hear how many players were at this shindig once the media getsthechance to blow it all up.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Crap - Darlene was a 4 star too wasn't she?!?

    ReplyDelete
  115. The basketball coach tried to kick me off the team.. For wearing high heel sneakers and acting like a queeeeeen......

    ReplyDelete
  116. I don't think my link works

    ReplyDelete
  117. Da na nah da na nah Da da naaahhh

    ReplyDelete
  118. Add Georgia to the list of those investigated by NCAA. per fox sports.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I'm out. Work to do. I'll be lurkin later.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I'm gonna head to so the Braves can go and win this thing - Night All

    ReplyDelete
  121. Darlene had too much high school success for her own good. She could never adjust to not being the man in college

    ReplyDelete
  122. My mom just told me that the entire starting o line has gone on strike until the coaches give into their demands for twinkies in the equipment room. The o line is tight. This may go on for awhile.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I should probably note that none of my mom's info has ever been right.

    ReplyDelete
  124. MJT - you're a couple of hours behind me, keep a running conversation going. It's late for me and I wake up a good bit before the sun comes up. I'm not going to stay downstairs past the 10th in this Braves game. Later.

    ReplyDelete
  125. mjt - there are some good thai restaurants in SLC.

    ReplyDelete
  126. My dear sister War Eagle Girl, just remember the Good Book...

"And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world." -- 1 John 4:3 (KJV -- Because if it ain't King James, it ain't Bible.)

    ReplyDelete
  127. I have awesome Thai restaurants in my neighborhood back home. I choose to eat at the hotel restaurant. I didn't really have a choice. No driving on account of all the free drinks.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Preach on brother Jet.

    ReplyDelete

  138. Alllll byyyyyyy myyyyyyyseeeeeelllllllffffff

    ReplyDelete
  139. I don't think I can stay awake any longer to try and pull the Braves through. 4:45 is just too early in the morning. Night Michael and any other Hotties still awake out there.

    ReplyDelete
  140. THT, you just ruined the poignancy of my last post. You are a total unpoignancier.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Break out the "Honk if you are being investigated by the NCAA" bumper stickers. Georgia is the latest to be added to the list. Let's see, what would the effect of Bama, South Carolina, Florida, and Georgia all being placed on probation?

    ReplyDelete
  142. you can go sing with mormon tabernacle choir. i hear they throw some rawking parties. especially when drunks with goats show up unannounced.

    ReplyDelete
  143. i guess the rest of the sec was feeling left out since they could not attend big cat weekend, so they got their own party together.

    ReplyDelete
  144. a Utah man is jailed for sending letters to his estranged wife's CAT.

Michael, you sure that's a hotel you're staying in?

    ReplyDelete
  145. after reading all the agent stuff going on, i'm curious as to how established the agent(s) involved in this ongoing scandal are. in bush's case, it was essentially wanna-be agents trying to break into the game with him as their cornerstone client. those are the ones i could see causing the most problems. established and reputable agents already make a ton of $$$ and know players will seek them out. i'm sure there are also plenty that fall in the middle ground too, but they still have much to lose if they are somehow punished in the process of pushing the boundaries.

    ReplyDelete
  146. chip chip - please keep michael company. Time for me to snooze

    ReplyDelete
  147. NC Sec'y of State is checking to see if the agents have violated any state laws.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Welcome Makkah.

    Thanks JayG.

    Nite Nite hotties.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Violations of the Florida sports agent law ... are third degree felonies ... potentially 1 to 5 in the pokey.

    ReplyDelete
  150. here is the stroy they are going to use

would not austin be viewed as an agent of the agent throwing the party if he accepted money. there are tweets from austin's twitter account where he talks about extravagant shopping sprees yet then complains he is broke. 1+1=7589347698723067

    ReplyDelete
  151. i know i'm going vacation when my parents are on their deathbed. i mean, the waiting has got be pretty boring...

something is very smelly if austin is handing out receipts to friends for "presents" he buys them. i carry a receipt book around with me at all times. you never know when someone is going to need a receipt when you straight pimpin'...

    ReplyDelete
  152. what ever became of the agent that gave chris porter the cash? didn't he plead out for probation?

as an example, look what happened to porter. gone. no questions asked. no chance to repay. see ya. just like it should be. he was a pro when he picked up the money order at a&p.

    ReplyDelete
  153. i'm still listening, chip chip

    ReplyDelete
  154. Holla atcha chip chip!

    ReplyDelete
  155. $aban says, unfortunately, it is all about the money

jimmy "pimp daddy" sexton has probably left him a voicemail.

    ReplyDelete
  156. again, the question that needs to be answered is:

    where da gold at?

    ReplyDelete
  157. Anyone wanna buy me a new iphone?

I thought I'd do something good and start a load of laundry before bed... accidentally grabbed my shorts that I had been wearing earlier and tossed them in. A couple minutes later, I went looking for my phone and couldn't find it. I ran to the washing machine and yep, the phone was still in the pocket of my shorts. The tub of the washing machine was about half full. I dried it out with a hair dryer some and put it in a bag of rice... I hope it works in the morning. If not, I've got to buy a new phone.

    ReplyDelete
  158. There is just something terribly ironic about college football. Think about it. If you take $20 you will lose your eligibility and will no longer be able to play. Now, the coach you are playing for is making $5 million. We have no problem with that, but stay away from that $20.

    ReplyDelete
  159. If monkeys were worried about their looks they would wear pants.
    -- Earl

    I love the great philosophers.

    ReplyDelete
  160. do diapers count as pants?

    ReplyDelete
  161. miller, was it in any kind of case? my guess is you are skeeeruud but maybe there is hope. may the electronic gods smile upon you.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Miller, my son dropped my wife's motorola in a vase filled with water, where it remained for 10 hours. She did the rice thing, and the phone is good as new. Don't give up hope!

    ReplyDelete
  163. i wouldn't suggest dropping your phone in a glass of chocolate milk.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Rise and shine, Hotties! After I run TWO miles at boot camp (no snickers from those of you who run a gazllion miles a week) and do some vile things with an 8 pound medicine ball, I get to go to AUBURN!!! It's going to be a great day!

    ReplyDelete
  165. have a safe trip, Cincy.

    T-minus 44 days til kickoff!

    GO TIGERS!!!

    WARRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  166. A thought to get the day started.

I'm really interested to see who our number 2 QB will be. Is Mosley a viable candidate or is it between Caudle and Trotter?

    ReplyDelete
  167. Morning Hotties. This just gets more and more curious doesn't it?

    Keep Hate Alive.

  168. Question for you runners out there? How do you run a marathon? I had to run 2 miles for boot camp today and it is the most BORING thing I have ever done! Maybe it would be better with my ipod. Anyway, hats off to you masochists. My life would be perfectly wonderful if I never had to run again - which is doubtful if I stay in this boot camp!

  169. Norm,
Curiosity killed the cat. What is it that is getting curiouser?

  170. I don't find running boring so much as it is exhaustive, especially when I did it in the thin mountain air of Colorado.

    No mas.

  171. I guess "NCAA investigations"

  172. cincy - as to the running; I also find it boring typically. Especially if I'm on a treadmill. I despise treadmills now. Running with my iPod makes it much more bearable. We have some nice greenway trails near us which take me through wooded areas and I enjoy the scenery so it's not so bad. If I'm running it early in the morning I see plenty of deer. If I run it later in the day, snakes of one kind or another aren't terribly uncommon. So, I have to pay attention. I usually start my weekday runs around 5a leaving from my house. Yesterday, I ran a route I haven't run in a while and wound up starting about an hour later than usual. It's a good thing I did - a sinkhole swallowed up part of an access road I use and it's not lit at all, I'd have been severely hosed if I hadn't been able to see it.

The curious comment was in reference to the ever expanding NCAA investigation talk.

  173. I don't have a problem with running. It's the people that do it that I have the problem with.

  174. OK, Norm, the thought of running across a snake definitely heightens my dislike of running. I hate snakes! Glad you didn't fall in the sinkhole. You might have missed Auburn football, which THT says starts in 44 days!

  175. No one has heard anything about any Auburn players being involved in this agent party mess have they?

  176. I'm glad you can enjoy the scenery. I'm so busy just trying to breathe that I couldn't tell you one thing I saw on my run!

My daughters called me yesterday to tell me they had caught a snake with Papaw. How cool is that?

As a biker, I dislike runners with iPods. They usually aren't aware of what's happening around them and can't hear my warning that I'm coming up behind them and need to go around. The trails up here can get fairly crowded.

  182. cincy - most of my snake encounters while running have been with the non-poisonous variety. I'm not very fast over a distance run, but I'm 100% positive I can out outrun a snake. Usually, I notice them in advance and can just give them a wide enough berth and don't even have to stop or slow down. There've been a couple of times where the snake was a young poisonous hatchling amongst a group of sticks that I don't notice the snake until I'm right up on it so I just jump over the sucker.

About this time last year while running the trail with my running partner; we notice there's a gaggle of women about 50 yards ahead of us blocking the entire trail taking pictures. No big whoop, I figure they'll disperse and let us through. They don't right away. They finally break apart when we're right up on them making it too late for us to give the typical wide berth to the snake they had surrounded which had been the focus of their pictures. Stupid women. So, we wind up having to leap over a mature Copperhead. I don't say anything about it until a mile or so later when we hit a water station. I ask if she realizes what that was, she didn't. She'd thought she'd just bypassed a stick or something. I tell her it's a Copperhead and that still means nothing to her. When I tell her the significance of this, the Boston native in her comes out complete with extremely colorful expletives. Good times.

  183. NoVa - on the trail, I typically only run with a single earbud in for just such a reason. I also stay to the far right to allow bikers, skaters, or those faster than I to pass easily. I'm cool like that.

I still haven't watt he'd my DVRed Deadliest Catch. I'm going to have to be in the right mood for it. I did watch the After the Catch show from last week and thought it was great tribute to Phil.
