News of the day, 11/28
Hey everyone. News has been pretty scarce. As you can see from the newspaper reports of late, insiders clearly have different perspectives of what has happened with Tommy Tuberville and what will happen. I'm still of the opinion that Tuberville will be Auburn's coach next season, but it's obvious that this isn't a cut-and-dried deal.
At all.
We're buyout-free. We're the HOTTEST Auburn blog on the 'net.
Reiterating what I said at the top, there wasn't much going on at Auburn today. Tuberville didn't make it into the office today for a second day of talks with athletic director Jay Jacobs. What does that mean? Debatable. It's clear that Arkansas at least some token interest. Does Arkansas want to pay that $6 million buyout just to get to a point where it can offer him $2.75 million +? That's a lot of money for a guy with one conference title to his credit.
Tuberville is planning to be out of town on Thursday. Talks will resume ... later.
If you're wondering about the picture, I'll never pass up a chance to get ace trainer Arnold Gamber (at left) in the HABOTN. Franchise player? I think so.
OK. Fun stuff. At the Maryland-NC State game last weekend, official Ron Cherry (who handled Auburn's Capital One Bowl game in 2005) called a personal foul on Kalani Heppe for "giving him the business."
A lot of young'uns think that was Cherry being inventive. It wasn't. That was a shout-out to former NFL official Ben Dreith, who (mistakenly) busted Mark Gastineau for giving Jim Kelly the business during a 1986 game.
Here's an email from one of those fans (you all didn't believe they existed) who believe Tuberville already said he's staying. Name partially redacted to save him the humilation:

He hasn’t made a concrete statement? I am glad you found journalism because anything that required half a brain was out.

Jay, you're the best, man.
Don't make me buy you out.
I'll make you famous
I'm going to pretend lots of other people can make me more famous and make you all bid it out.
How would you like that?
Why that's some sweet HABOTN action.
Just curious, how many of us our really that entrenched with Tuberville? Some of us find it so easy to say "he's not going anywhere". Why not? That's my question.
I know I'd rather live in Auburn vs. the hills of Arkansas. I like pretty girls with all their teeth. Tuberville, well, he likes Tuberville. He likes to be famous.
Can anybody tell me that they don't honestly think another guy could come in here and run a clean program while winning only 8 or 9 games a year?
C'mon! Auburn spent a great deal of its history playing away from home. And Auburn has won A LOT of games. Imagine is the Auburn/Alabama series had always been home and home?
Auburn has a great tradition. It's loaded with talent. It's a great location. It could stand to be coached by somebody who would actually have them ready to play when the season started.
And, yes, I could stand to have a spell check button available to me.
In the future, remember that you can copy the comment, delete the comment (choose the "delete forever" option), paste the old comment into a new comment window, make the appropriate spelling changes and click "publish your comment."
I do it all the time.
10-4
quote of the week:
"That's a lot of money for a guy with one conference title to his credit."
Don't get me wrong, I like Tubs, kinda. But don't try to sell me on his top 10 record when loses games he should NOT.
either way . . . if he goes he goes, if he stays, thats pretty good too!
Auburn is more than the coach, or at least I like to think it is.
I agree with the 9:41 post.
I hope Tubbs stays, but if he doesnt, oh well. We can find another coach to go 8-4 every year and use the first three games of the season as practice.
The Ron Cherry-Ben Dreith thing may have been the highlight of my week. You are a good man, Jay G.
God bless journalism, men.
If you don't like our coach cheer for someone else. Currently Tubs is a part of the AU family. Deal with it. I'll cheer him on as long as he's an Auburn man. I remember the thugs of the Bowden era. I've seen firsthand how he's transitioned our players from kids to respectable men. You guys act like we're supposed to win a NC every year. Sure we have one SEC championship in nine years but how many teams have none (Jay)? Maybe we have tough beginnings because Tubs has put AU on the map by setting up these ESPN made for TV games at the first of the season. It helps recruiting. Is this the Hottest Auburn Blog on the Net or the Hottest Alabama Blog on the Net. Let me check! I may be on the wrong one.
For all these wins we should have another SEC title or two. Screw the national championship. They're all mythical. Give me an SEC trophy. But in order to do so you have to show up at the beginning of the season, and you have to beat the teams you're supposed to beat. And, by all means, you can't lay down for anybody. You want a raise after a 4 and maybe 5 loss season? OK.
$3.5 million to Nutt $6 million buyout for Tubbs $3 million first year salary = $12.5 million Wow with that kind of cash you could get a sit down with Belichick!
But Belichik, like Saban, is a little "nutty". Boy, the bammers are sure in a tailspin right now. They can't figure out what position to hold with Saban. They seemed to have ditched the "process" in mass. Bama's recruiting classes just weren't that bad under Shula. In fact, some were pretty dog gone good.
Tuberville to Bama. That's his next move.
He's gone.

HOW ABOUT A DEAL WITH TUBERVILLE THAT HE REFUNDS AUBURN WHEN HE LOSES GAMES HE IS SUPPOSED TO WIN. WE WOULD BE 11-1
Hey you all. I've been doing stuff today, haven't been able to blog yet.
Those reports out of Arkansas are premature at best. It's my opinion that Arkansas is interested in Tuberville, but I'm 100% certain Arkansas hasn't requested permission from Auburn to talk with Tuberville.
Arkansas can work behind the scenes unscrupulously, but that would be a bad decision for several reasons. Chiefly, that would put Tuberville clearly afoul of his contract and, as such, possibly open him to (unpleasant) legal ramifications.
I'll get more into this when I get a chance.
Exactly, Jay. This is quite the premature celebration by the Bammers. Anybody see that flight itinerary between Baton Rouge and Tuscaloosa today?
Jay, sounds more and more that if he's not gone already then he's a lot closer than any of us thought.
What in your opinion are the "control" issues that he keeps talking about? Does he basically want to be the AD of the Football department?
