News of the day, 3/26
Hey everyone. We had an interesting moment earlier today. My wife loves pugs, I mean LOVES 'em, and we happened upon a great-looking pug at Petland today. My wife checks him out. She likes him. I'm getting ready to drop the requisite $500. You know how it goes.
Then I'm saved at the last minute.
The Petland employee announces that the dog costs $1,499.
Instant extrication. Woo-hoo. God bless you, Petland, for your ridiculous pricing scheme.

In other news, someone told me that Barry McKnight's sidekick was playing the 'ol Who is Jay G.? game on WMSP radio today. That's another bit of mine shamelessly stolen without attribution. I can't believe a single innovative thought has passed through that guy's lips in 10 years. I certainly haven't heard it.
I wonder if the obvious success of The Roundtable (WMSP's afternoon show) eventually will force some improvements to the morning show? As it stands, I feel like I'm listening to tapes from 1998 every morning. It's real-life Groundhog Day.
Coach Tommy Tuberville's influence continues to spread. Auburn's football coach has agreed to spend time in May touring military bases in the Middle East. He'll be joined by Mark Richt (Georgia), Randy Shannon (Miami), Charlie Weis (Notre Dame) and Jack Siedlecki (Yale). They'll kick it with troops, coach some flag-football games and participate in a symposium.
Hey, Tuberville loves warm locales. He'll get plenty of sun over there.
OK, so you all read what OC Tony Franklin said yesterday regarding the quarterback situation. Chris Todd and Kodi Burns allegedly are in a dead heat. I dont believe that. I believe that Todd is The Guy, provided he's healthy, and Burns will be the second guy until he learns to repeat solid mechanics.
Burns is not throwing well right now. A surprising percentage of his passes, I'd say 30% or so, are really wobbly. Many more are not placed well in relation to where the receiver needs them. Burns has a long time to improve. I know that. I'm not knocking the kid. I'm just telling you that he doesn't look like a dominating quarterback right now.

$1,500? geez. we saved a terrier mix at a rescue center here in knoxville 2 weeks ago for a mere $120. named her Beasley. glad you saved a few bucks. that's nuts.
It's insane. No other word explains this situation more clearly.
do you have any dogs now?
beasley is our second. we rescued a little fella named sully over a year ago and when we saw his identical twin we had to have her.
We have an 8-year-old pug (got him from a breeder) and a cat we rescued from the shelter.
Years ago we got a Westie in Atlanta ($300) and moved to Arizona. When my 8 year old daughter wanted puppies, we bred the dog. A group of Westie lovers from Alaska bought all 4 puppies based solely on the breeders recommendations. 4 different people paid $1000/ea. plus flew into Phoenix to pick up the dogs(only 1 allowed per passenger).
I'm hoping KBurns will learn/adjust well enough to become the starter. I don't think it will happen, but if did would give Au the most QB versatility.
We have two dogs, both "free". One was givin to us. She had pups. We kept one and the one we kept has done all sorts of non-free stuff.
1. Blew an ACL. WIfe and I switched sleeping downstairs on couch for 5 months. - $4000
2. Had a wart blow up on the end of his tail. Laser removal and continuous licking to make it worse-$350
3. Swallowed a needle. Had to search the yard for 2 days while he pooped it out. Emergency room visit and X-rays-$400.
4. Had two tumors removed. ONce again continuous licking to help things get worse.-$700
(The lamp Shade collars dont ever work...he justed licked around them)
5. Busted thru Two doors after being lcoked in bathroom TWICE. 100and lots of lost time.
6. Ate Three sets of trim due to Seperation anxiety
7. Remote collar for the training of this WONDERFUL dog now. $175
8. Training sessions- $75/hr
BUT HEY GOT TO LOVE YOUR DOGS!
Kodi will get it together!
That's quite an honor for Tuberville. On Burns, he's the running guy and that's about it. It only gets worse when Barrett Trotter checks in. That guy can pretty much make all the throws and he's got wheels.
atlantatiger ... you should contact VISA for a "pricless" commercial. You've got a great script.
By the way, had Sullivan and Beasley beagles back in the day. They were mean little bastards.
I've been hearing alot of people talk about barrett trotter. I watched the last two games he played (state championship and AL/MS all star game) and i'd be willing to bet a whole bunch of money that guy won't see the field for at least three years.
todd has 12 days off and his arm is good for an hour? Chances he makes through an entire season look pretty slim. And how weak do his throws get? Are we talking brandon cox first quarter against mississippi state weak?
Todd's arm doesn't get that weak. I think the main thing is that the late-practice throws look a lot different than the early-morning zips on the out routes.
Barrett Trotter will be a non-factor for a while.
Thursday practice starts at 7 a.m. I'll provide an update around 11. Stop by for an afternoon of prescient and informative chatter.
Jay,
Saved a dog from the pound two years ago. German Shepard mix mutt. A year ago she executed a takedown of someone advancing on my 12-year-old daughter without biting, but with plenty of growling and teet h baring.
One of the best examples of a restrained escalation of violence I've ever seen. She's the best guard dog I've ever owned.
Save a pound puppy, and you have a friend for life. Just IMHIO (in my humble Irish opinion).
I adopted a dachshund/beagle/lab mix (She is short and long, with the face of a lab or beagle, and the mannerisms of all 3, and a shiny, soft coat - weighs ~ 30 lbs) from a humane society. Cost $45. She is the smartest, most well behaved, sweetest, quietest, playful, chick-magnet dog of all time. She is a good mix of small and big.
I ask her if she would rather be a bammer fan or a dead dog, and she plays dead.
Trotter's absolute worst game came agaisnt St Paul's in the SC. And he still showed more poise, confidence, and overall QB talent than I've ever seen from Burns.
Did you know Trotter's heaviest offensive lineman was 195 lbs???
Trotter's a steal.
Trotter stunk it up in the All Star Game too, didn't he? Something like 3 picks.
Jay, are you playing Rock Band or just Guitar Hero 3? I'm surprised that we haven't heard about nearly all of Boston's first album getting released for RB this week.
Oh, man, I need to address this. I'll put that up in today's (Thursday) blog.
