Your Daily Fix, 6/27
Hey everyone. It's another warm day in L.A. (lower Alabama) and I'd really like to be in the pool right now.
I have added a pool shot, captured by yours truly in April, to provide some vicarious enjoyment. We like it hot here at the HABOTN, but we all have our limits. I'm there.
I was talking with one of my pro-Alabama friends, Citifinancial magnate Jeff K., and he thinks the answer to all this misbehavin' on campus is to resume use of athletic dorms. They were all but outlawed a decade ago because they often afforded comforts that regular students didn't have. They also were havens for questionable moral/legal events.
HOTTIES: What do you think? I believe Jimmy Johns was going to peddle cocaine regardless of his living arrangements.
I talked with former DC Will Muschamp ther other day about The Recruiting Situation. If you'll recall, he told me months ago that early commitments would become The Next Big Thing in college football.
Lo and behold, Auburn currently has 17 commitments. Texas, Muschamp's current employer, has 19. It's not even July yet.
Here are a few other things Muschamp had to say about this.
I'll share more of the conversation next week.
Literate Auburn fans know about Phillip Marshall, who has covered Auburn for the Huntsville Times since 1990. Not anymore. Today is his last day in print journalism.
Phillip has signed on with Auburn Undercover, which debuts next week. I can't wait to see what zany things P-Marsh will spew once freed from the shackles of orthodoxy. Maybe a jump to the Interwebs will give him the Hall of Fame support he so richly deserves.
A friend of mine forwarded me a YouTube link that was so funny that I just had to share it with the HOTTIES.
Check this out:
The only bad thing about the catch is that it didn't really happen. So it goes.

Here are a few other things Muschamp had to say about this.
- First is best: Many recruits take mental notes about which programs are the first to show interest and offer a scholarship. Mid-major schools have known this for years, yet their (relative) lack of prestige prevented many prospects from committing. Now, big schools like Auburn and Texas (and many others) are making their feelings known much earlier than before.
The Auburns and Texases of the world have much more allure.
``A whole lot of kids put stock into who recruited me first," Muschamp said. ``It's all about relationships. When you're building a relationship, kids feel closer to the people who believed in them all along." - What about overcrowding?: Schools generally have no more than 25 scholarships to give. What happens when some big-time prospects decide to play at Auburn or Texas in February ... when the team already has a full class?
Muschamp said proper planning can help teams avoid that potential snag.
``We know which kids we like and we've been talking with them and watching them for a long time," Muschamp said. ``This is like marriage: Once you're in and you accept that offer, that's it. We're committed to the kid and he's committed to us. That's a done deal in my mind."

I would believe it if I didn't believe it. Figure that out.
Just a Gatorade commercial. Argh!
It's pretty well done. But the give away, other than the event itself, is that she never turns around to look for the ball.
You're a perceptive one, homes.
I say sign her up to play late innings defense for AU.
Jay.....nice statements regarding PM. I post on the Al.com blogs as "GaTiger1" and truly enjoy his AU aptitude/attitude. He seems to get a littlemore access than others...I guess if you put in enough time, the trust comes with it.
That group over at Al.com can get a little viscious and he calms it down to a mild roar.
"Hoopie" got banned from Al.com because he was flaming Bammers and the Bama folks that run Al.com didn't like it. They would not respond to my email requesting what part of the post violated the rules. hmmmm.
P-Marsh's greatness has nothing to do with access, which I don't think is greater than the other full-time beat guys.
Who do you think--russia vs spain? i'm thinking spain, but i thought portugal would win it all. LOSER!
I'm definitely thinking Spain, though I so dislike both sides.
More playmakers for ESP.
Spain will win if they finally start Fabregas instead of bringing him off the bench. Since David Villa is out they should forgo having 2 strikers and just have as many playmakers behind Torres as possible. I may not like Spain that much, but watching them makes me realize the talent gap between their playmakers and anything the US throws out. I long for the day when the US can field a team full of skilled players as opposed to athletic workman types.
You'll be waiting a while, Paul.
We'll luck up into the WC quarters one of these days, but we'll never be Germany or France or Argentina or Brazil. Ain't happenin'.
I see we're back to the old room. Feels good.
Hey Mr. Crudup. Good to have you back. We'll be here from now on...
looks like the germans may be missing their captian and the spaniards will be missing villa. paul may have it right...
I just watched the movie "Blow" for the first time. I think it should be mandantory that all highschool students watch it once a year. What a miserable existence Goerge Jung has lived and is still living. You only get one shot at this whole thing. Jimmy Johns got his. Now it's gone ... and that is very sad.
Mr. Crudup ... Where in the %^*^ have you been?
What bothers me the most about the 10 arrests in the past year over UAT is that the coach is reluctant to modify or increase discipline to try and stop the madness.... and the fans are more concerned about making excuses than demanding control.
I feel that better preventative discipline would surely have prevented some of those arrests. Setting all "responsible for their actions" psycobabble aside, I feel that the coach and fans have let those kids down.
Back to a previous note: Jay....I just read/realized that PM's new site will be affiliated with the evil empire (ESPN) and will be a pay site. I don't know how many AU pay sites there are(Rivals/Scout) and am not sure that there's room for more to be succcessful. Sure hope that's not the future for all sites.
I don't really understand the ESPN connection with P-Marsh's new site. It's not direct. He doesn't work for ESPN per se.
I hope it works for him. He works very hard.
