Final thoughts from J-H
THINGS I FOUND INTERESTING ... OR THAT YOU MAY FIND INTERESTING:
- Seventeen players made their varsity debuts Saturday: Brent Poole, Vance Smith, Derrick Lykes, Mike Slade, John Douglas Chris Todd, Neiko Thorpe, Drew Cole, D'Antoine Hood, Adam Herring, Christian Thompson, Spencer Pybus, Philip Pierre-Louis, Quindarius Carr, Derek Winter, Darvin Adams, Clinton Durst, Zach Clayton
- Durst started at punter. Douglas started at "RB," though he really was a "Big H" in that first set.
- Auburn rushed 18 times for 126 yards in the first half.
- Auburn rushed 28 times for 195 yards in the second half.
- Auburn passed for 85 yards.
- ULM was 2-for-18 on third down.
- ULM had a six-possession stretch of consecutive three-and-outs.
- Auburn's leading tackler was Neiko Thorpe with seven stops.
- Eric Smith looked much better than I expected during his second-half display. He finished with 66 yards on nine carries. With Tristan Davis' health situation always on the rocks, I think Smith has a real chance to play this season.
- It's 11:50 p.m. and I'm headed home ... earlier than expected. Tuberville and coordinators are available tomorrow, so I'll be in Auburn providing HOT coverage of those events. That's allegedly going down around 3 p.m.
I'm sure we'll all interact before then. Just keeping you all informed. - Watch my video below.

Will you post of clip of the Thorpe hit?
Walking down the concourse as that happened.
Interesting that Neiko Thorpe and JOSH BYNES led the team in tackles and production.
JOSH BYNES
Josh Bynes was awesome. He looked big and fast. After he came in around the second quarter, I didn't see Blackmon anymore. Maybe I just missed him.
In fact, the last play I saw with Blackmon, he looked over to Chris Evans as if he was asking where to line up. Evans was waving him into position as the ball was snapped.
Maybe just my imagination, though.
I agree, Bynes did look good. Hopefully by the end of the season they will move him to the starting strongside linebacker role.
Thorpe also looked good, he didn't look as skinny as i would have imagined.
Ben Tate ran the ball really well. He is going to be really good this year.
Those quotes in today's Advertiser from the defensive players say a lot about what they think of this "offensive attack."
To sum it up for those who haven't read it:
The defense thinks the offense won't be able to produce much and that they will (once again) be called upon to win games. The RBs feel the same way it sounds like.
i was expecting a faster pace on offense. the defense was outstaning. florida looked scary good.
should have read "outstanding"
Bynes is not a strong-side linebacker. He won't be playing strong-side linebacker unless several people get hurt.
I'll try to track down video of the Thorpe hit.
And as far as the offensive pace, you're right on the mark. It didn't seem consistently fast to me. Maybe I was expecting too much?
The offensive pace was _really_ fast on one three-and-out I remember. We probabably took 20 seconds off the clock in that possession.
Eric Smith looked like the best back by far last evening in my opinion, how can you ossibly keep him off the field? Thunder and lighting..and rain?
99% sure Zach Clayton played last year.
