Second quarter ... and halftime

OFFENSE
AUBURN: 38 plays, 170 yards
MSU: 26 plays, 65 yards

PASSING
Chris Todd: 10-for-19, 96 yards

THIRD-DOWN EFFICIENCY
Auburn: 0-for-8
MSU: 0-for-7

  • Auburn's offense: Not good. Again. Long arm action for Chris Todd; throwing motion looks different to me for reasons I can't really articulate.

  • MSU TB Anthony Dixon: 4 carries, 0 yards.

  • AUBURN 3, MSU 0: Wes Byrum hits a 35-yard field goal. A 35-yard pass from Chris Todd to Montez Billings creating the scoring opportunity.

  • Chris Todd isn't exactly running the offense with aplomb or anything, but MSU's Wesley Carroll hasn't accomplished much, either. He already has two delay-of-game calls against him.

Nice zip on that pass by Todd. I agree that he does look better so far, as far as arm strength goes.

He has the velocity, but his release seems slower.

This east/west running isn't going to work very well if we can't get WR's open down the field to pull the D back a little.

So far this offense continues to disappoint.

6:51 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Still, WRs don't seem to get separation so they can work in "space" like they want to.

6:51 PM
Blogger James in Auburn said...

Yeah the release looks like it's in slow motion. He's got to get it out of his hands faster.

Brad Lester still deadly in the red zone.

QB draw on 3rd-and-16?

7:04 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

How long has it been since we got down inside the 30 and taken at least one shot in the endzone?

Not that it matters on this last drive with the two horrible false starts and the 3rd and 16 QB draw.

7:07 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Twice on 3rd and long we run a draw (one to Tate one to Todd).

I don't get it either.

7:07 PM

Like Alvin Mack said in "The Program:"

Defense is going to have to pitch shutouts.

the qb draw worked well for matt stafford once today. not so much for CT

not trying to be a negative nancy, but how long of a leash does Todd get before Burns gets a couple of series?

7:22 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

When do they get into the Nascar set?

7:24 PM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

I was thinking the same thing.

If this is all Todd is going to accomplish, they might as well play Burns.

7:25 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

There we go! That was a zippy throw!

7:26 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why follow that up with that run?!?

No one on the defense thinks Todd is keeping it.

Geez...Al Borges could've had Aubun in this halftime position :-D

As bad as it looks, this MS defense has to eventually wear down, and at least open running lanes up, if not passing lanes.

I'd love to compliement Miss State's D, but for the most part it's more what we aren't doing than what they are doing.

I'm gonna guess on 1st down that it'll be a shotgun draw to the left. Just a guess.

7:32 PM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

I agree that MSU will wear down.

Auburn, at times, ran at a fast pace. Still not impressed with the passing attack at all. It's my opinion that Burns can make these throws and could add a running element as well.

Let's see what unfolds.

Franklin's offense, just like his hair, very sloppy.

Also, it doesn't get much worse than Bob Davie.

Tristan Davis-0 touches
Mario Fannin-1 touch

I don't understand what we are doing.

Its like we're not even trying to convert on 3rd down. Draws? 4 yd pass with 5 to go?

7:37 PM

On the bright side, 10 quarters of football played this year - 8 of them shutouts.

How is it that a school like BYU can recruit a QB that throws 7 tds in one game (today) against a BCS conf. school (one that beat an SEC school, by the way) and we can't recruit ONE QB who can throw it with authority further than 5 yds?!?

7:38 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

170 yards of offense in the 1st half isn't bad, but nothing consistent at all.

East/West running could be our downfall if we can't get a better rhythm on offense.

At least no turnovers.

7:38 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

BYU has a long long reputation of great QB's, we don't.

7:39 PM

weaglerk, good answer.

7:41 PM

Not sure why the shock at how bad we are on 3rd down today.

We were 33% for the year against lesser competition than Miss State.

Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

O-fer isn't "bad."

That's ... not even chartable.

this is some of the most miserable football i have ever watched. The quarterback play is miserable on both sides. How could kodi burns do worse?

7:43 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

If we had Jim McMahon, Ty Detmer & Steve Young as QB's in our past, it would help us in getting QB's in the future.

Their QB's have a tradition of putting up big numbers.

I agree that it's no excuse for our QB play over the past 3 years, but just letting you know why BYU can get good QB's. They are know to throw the ball all over the place and put up big numbers.

Ron, didn't you leave Va. Tech with some eligibility on the table?

I'm sure Lowder can talk to a judge or two and get you released from your current circumstances.

We need your legs, man!

What are the odds that we see some Kodi early in the second half?

7:46 PM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

What about Daniel Cobb? Meiko Collier? Jeff Klein?

That's tradition right there.

7:46 PM

I agree WarEagleRk. It puzzles me that we can't make that move forward to attract some top QB talent, but we don't have the rep for being much more than snap and hand it off school, this is true.
